I recently bought a barrister bookcase and am pleased with the purchase. Magnet door closers were added, along with floor glides for the legs. The delivery crew did a really good job getting this bookcase thru a tight fit to its intended location. All in all, it was a good experience. read more

Stopped by here for the first time yesterday with my family and our experience was subpar. When we walked in the guy that buzzed us in was super cold. Didn't even acknowledge us (we were the only ones in the store mind you) or ask if we needed help. We did a lap around the store and when we walked by his counter, he turned away and looked into his office. Look, I actually like being left alone when shopping, but this was a different vibe. It was like he was annoyed that he had to buzz us in and he was annoyed that we were walking around the store. Anyways we won't be coming back. If you do decide to stop by, don't expect a warm welcome. read more

We've found some awesome finds at this little antique store in Whittier. They are constantly getting in new items, so it's like a new store every time we come back. They have a ton of books if you're looking for cool pieces for your shelves, oil paintings if you want more classic art in your house, old timey furniture, lamps, couches, and little trinkets from yesteryear that could make a great gift or addition to your coffee table. My favorite purchase was a typewriter from the 1920's. It was in immaculate condition and even works if I choose to replace the ink ribbon. The heavy piece of nostalgic machinery only set me back $40, and it's a piece in the living room that everyone seems to want to play with. I love you Apple, but you'll never recreate the coolness of steel keys punching and a bell telling you it's time move on to the next line. I'm sure there's an app for it somewhere, but it can't be the same. Compared to other antique stores, the prices are super reasonable and if you are looking for a specific item, the owners are knowledgeable and will help you find what you're looking for (even if they don't carry it themselves). Even if you're not in the market to purchase any old goods, it's still neat to peruse the stuff from the early years. read more

I really liked this place and my family has purchased many items from here but this last purchase did not go so well. We bought an antique chair we had it for a coupe months we were sitting enjoying the chair when one day I fell off the chair. I look to se the leg is broken and has a nail and glue that was holding it together. We were not aware of this or told about this we bought it for 200$ we tried to take it back and they are refusing to make a deal. We even asked to exchange for something else they said no. We will not be going back sorry. read more

Going back well over 15 years, I have been browsing and shopping at the old A to Z Mart in my hometown of Whittier, CA. I can look around our home in Vegas and see some home furnishing we purchased there in nearly every room in our house. This is not a thrift store or a run of the mill second hand shop. This is a home furnishings store that sells a strong variety of furnishings ranging from antiques to quality modern day items that they have acquired. Granted, all items are used, but they don't buy beat up mattresses or partial board crap. The owners take pride in their merchandise selection with a concentration on both the unique and the eccentric. You can furnish your whole house in this store, especially if you are looking for classic Americana or Colonial furnishings that are getting harder and harder to find at reasonable prices and good quality. This is not a swap meet or thrift store that haggles. They set their prices, and though I'm sure there is some wiggle room on larger items, the prices are generally set on the ticket. I would like to see them open for some negotiation on some items, but I have not been able to get this accomplished just yet. Their merchandise selection is constantly changing, but you will be sure to see the eclectic collection merchandised with a certain aura of familiarity, as I have been shopping there for over a decade, and every time I go there, it is as if I never left. It is a comforting piece of historical Whittier, and sometimes it is nice to know that you can still go home again. read more

I will say they have a great selection of vintage furniture in great condition. Alex the owner is very personable and nice until something goes wrong and he won't own up to it. We bought 4 midcentury chairs at $120 each where 1 of the vinyl seat bottom needed to be replaced. He said he would include it in the purchase to replace it. When they came to deliver our chairs a week later they delivered the 4 chairs including the 1 chair that needed vinyl replacement. We called him at that moment to inquire on the work he was suppose to do and he totally denied it. Said he sells "as is." We did not accept that chair into our house and had a back and forth discussion for 2 weeks. He got exasperated and said he would do the labor but we had to pay for the vinyl material. Not what we originally agreed upon but he was not going to budge or give us our money back. That was 4 years ago and I still remember this--will not go back because of his unprofessionalism. Take your money to another vintage store--in Whittier, Signal Hill, Pomona, the inland empire! Too bad when I look at those chairs I think "they look great but what a crappy experience." Great store, no pressure tactics, walked in looked around and found some nice quality furniture priced well for the quality, or even cheaper priced than stores like ikea particle board. They never follow you around and if I had a question they were very nice and answered it. great store that has new stuff constanly. I saw two Stickley book shelves that retail for over $5000.00, but they sold before I could get them for $1500 if my Mind serves me. I think I'm one of the proud few who has never bought the particle-board-and-pot-metal dreck to be found at that abomination known as IKEA. No, I buy all my furniture second-hand. How's THAT for reducing one's carbon footprint? And this is one of the shops that I check out periodically. It's like a thrift store for household goods. They deal in absolutely anything and everything. Furniture, from Baroque to Biedermeier to Bauhaus. Artwork, antique and modern, kitschy to classy. Clocks. Lamps. Even old books, statuary, and some architectural salvage. A to Z is a clearinghouse of sorts--they buy up old estates and that's how they get what you see in their store. So if they bought an estate full of crap last week, that's what you'll have to pick from this week. Hey, there's an ass for every seat, and people are into that, so...more power to them! But...I just went there last week and got a side table that I can reasonably date to the last quarter of the 17th century. For $180. They have a marquetry Sheraton--1810 or so--armoire that appears to be authentic for less than $1000. I don't like that style, but I did take notice. They've got plenty more along the lines of midcentury and modern as well, but since I really don't pay attention to those pieces and can't really understand why anyone else would either, I can't say exactly what they have. And they also have regular old furniture that's well-built, attractive, and won't go to the curb when you don't need it anymore--you could put it on Craigslist and at least get your money back! So if you're looking for that "special piece" and don't need to fill that empty space right away with something, check A to Z out from time to time. While they might not have what you're looking for at the moment, chances are it'll pass through at some point or another! read more

This is the perfect place to explore my hobby as an amateur antique art and furniture collector. Visiting this store is like visiting a museum, one that covers just about almost every period since the invention of furniture, from ancient buddhist temple doors made of iron to vintage 50's sputnik furniture styling. They even display working technology: Edison gramophones with records, 1920's tube radios and 1950's jukeboxes. It's amazing imagining hand-cranking a 100 year old phonograph to get the music started as a conversation piece at a party. Some of the pieces I've purchased from this store includes a Queen Anne writing desk by Sligh, a large 200 pound solid wood coffee table from the Classic Empire period, a 19th-century euro-oriental room divider, and French Provencal chairs. Some furniture pieces may carry a hefty price tag (sometimes well into tens of thousands), but keep in mind most of the items are investment-grade that are long lasting. If they are 50, 100, or 200 plus years old, that's good enough proof for me that they've stand the test of time. Every piece have some degree of intrinsic character. You can typically resell for more in the future since they either maintain or appreciate in value, or past them down as family heirlooms. Something you can't do with IKEA. read more

This place is the real deal. I have not written a review about them, because I almost don't want more people to know about it. It's a family business that actually cares about their product. I have purchased an asian chest, a drum, dining room table and chair, and have outfitted most of my apartments with pieces from this store. Key to this store is going ALL the time. Because they keep their costs down with purchases and are able to move the pieces, the value for the product is amazing. Now that we are outfitting a home, they will be seeing a lot of us. read more

Great staff. Great store. What more can you want? If you have any questions, concerns, they're willing to help until your fully satisfied. Apart from the staff, their selection is fantastic. I like a very vintage/simple look but was working with a college student budget, (I'm sure most people know what I mean, lol ). So I was only going by to check it out and I'm glad I did. I managed to not only find something to my exact need but it worked well to my budget of under $300, final price $195. So price point is very broad. Besides from their selection because most of the pieces are vintage, you can be sure that it will last you a long time. I always find something here! I got my fancy bedroom set of drawers and desk here, and they were in great condition given their age and make. Recently we visited to find a comfy chair for a room we're renovating... we found it. Surprise! Not really, I knew we would. The furniture (not that I'm a whiz) is very decently priced. It's so preferable to getting something new (and generally not as well-made), and this may sound cliche, but I always like knowing that I have furniture with a story and history beginning long before me. Alex and staff clean the furniture, load it onto your vehicle for you: it's great service. P.S. Don't overlook the upstairs part of the store. A to Z Mart is a great antique and furniture store. My wife and I have purchased many pieces here over the years. It's the first place we go when we are looking for something for our house. Alex knows his stuff and does a nice job of continually bringing in new items. He also provides excellent customer service. I purchased a brass lamp at this store quite a while ago (probably 10-12 years) and a few weeks ago it stopped working. I brought to A to Z and Alex rewired it, while I waited, and did it as a courtesy. You just don't get that kind of service too often these days. I highly recommend A to Z. read more

This is the best antique store I've ever seen. If you're in the Los Angeles area and want to fill your home with antique or vintage furniture, this is a place you must visit. The staff is helpful and friendly; the pieces are beautiful and functional; the prices are reasonable; and a substantial amount of new stock may arrive between visits on different days. I'd post photos; but I wouldn't want to make anyone envious of the items we bought (a large bookcase, a little revolving bookcase, an armoire, and a slag lamp). But don't worry; I'm sure items at least as excellent will take their place. read more

What a great collection of furniture! I live in the central California area and stopped in on a visit to my home town. I was so impressed by the gorgeous selection of wood furniture. I jave an affextoon for masks and frames and picked up thre well proced indonesian masks for my space. With furniture selections ranging from Ornate and well preserved to fun and unusual, these dealers know the art and craft of "antiquing." They have a well established style and offer high quality furnishings. Rosaura is a lovely women and knows her store well. She and her brother work with many of their regular customers and offer their knowledge and advice to all who have come to treasure hunt through their collection. They have antique furniture ranging from couches, bed frames, dresser drawers, book cases, lamps, statues, chests, chairs and more. Some of the items they have are really unique and you will not find elsewhere because of the rarity. All the furniture in the store is well preserved, in good condition or are refinished and look in pristine condition. Expect alittle on the high end, because the furtinue here isn't that you are going to find at a Salvation store. They don't do not really have a good selections of small or trinkets, mainly larger furniture pieces. read more

Store is very nice, clean and quiet. There were 3 other customers in the store and I walked in and I got all the way across the store to the back before I was greeted walk right past the desk where the woman was standing helping someone she looked up she looked at me and didn't even say hello nothing then I got to the back and a gentleman that was working back there didn't say hello very nice I walked around completely made another circle around the store in front of the woman at the desk and she never greeted me and never gave me the time a day basically ignored me and I'm one of the only people in the store I just found that really rude and bad customer service but the store it self is well put together well displayed a little expensive for me but it's very nice they were letting a gentleman and I'm not sure if this is a regular thing but he was sitting in the section where the old books are almost like a little sitting library and reading and I thought that was nice so that was a plus but I gave it to three-star because of the woman I just found it ridiculous that she didn't even say hello not her head nothing didn't even make eye contact with me read more

i love this family business. just moved into the neighborhood about 2 months ago and have already purchased 5 items from the shop. great people - wonderful inventory, just can't go wrong here. prices are completely reasonable. if this store was situated just 20 miles west they could charge twice as much, but luckily for us they do not. worth the drive if you are not whittier locals. - keep in mind most of the items are not anything you would be able to go to an antique road show and find out it's worth millions - but still very lovely pieces and very good quality. why buy new when you have these unique pieces here for less?? take a look.... read more
