I just finished a marathon session with Braddah Tim and I am so happy with my new work of art. I wanted something that was strong and powerful but also feminine and he nailed it! He was able to incorporate everything I wanted my tattoo to represent in the most beautiful detail I've ever seen. This is my 8th and biggest tattoo--Tim had such a light touch that I didn't bleed at all and the overall inflammation was minor. I'm usually a bleeder and my skin stays crispy for weeks. But not this time. The vibe in that whole shop is also what makes this place special. I got to meet a lot of the other artists and watched them work with all kinds of clients and different styles but the one thing that was consistent was their love and mastery of their art. I did this, had my consultation with Lio on July 7th and scheduled my tattoo appointment for July 14th. The time we coordinated was perfect, on a Saturday at 10am. Yes, the earlier the better for me. It was quiet, tranquil, not too many people, there was only this A-Town artist Hene (who does amazing work!) and Allek (also an A-Town tattooer) at first. The shop was clean, the stations were organized and the mood for the first couple of hours was pacifying (can't stress this enough). As the day progressed more people started to trickle in, other artists, clients, spectators, family...the space got quite packed. Thankfully, my 5-6 hour tattoo journey was near completion. My back tattoo is a Maori inspired design, revamped into a sketch by Lio that synthesizes both my Filipino & Samoan cultures. Lio specializes in lettering and script pieces, but when I dug a little deeper into his portfolio, I found that he could crank out Polynesian style tattoos also. He started my session around 11am, finished right before 5pm, with just 2 short breaks in between. I am grateful to say, Lio did an excellent job on my 10th tattoo. They also have a female apprentice who is talented and other local artists. Also, they have visiting artists too. I met Josh and he brings new school to the best of old school. They do traditional tapping as well. This place is a gem! It's a place I highly recommend especially if you like Polynesian, free hand, professionally done tattoos. Also, they can do classic designs, script, portraits as well. The freehand is what's most impressive to me. The tattoos are shaped for your body instead of a flat stamp unless that's what you want. Alipate Fetuli stole my money. He and his wife are thieves. I was referred to Alipate because of the kind of artwork I wanted and was shown his Instagram. I reached out on Instagram and the first interaction was pretty good. He's booked out for months but can do a FaceTime consultation- okay great. I reached back out months later for my consultation and to book a certain date I wanted. No response right away, he was out of the state so his wife LAUREN took over and she's horrible. Horrible at responding very unprefessional. Alipate would be beach for a consult soon - so pay deposit to book date. I paid $100 via Venmo for the date I wanted and NEVER EVER heard from Alipate. LAUREN responded days, sometimes weeks later and kept making excuses for Alipate. I eventually cancelled my appointment and requested my money back. She laughed at me and NEVER PAID ME BACK MY DEPOSIT. Extremely illegal, unprofessional and rude I cannot believe her. I'm out $100 and pissed but nothing can be done. They never gave me an address, they never asked for my phone number, it was just awfully unprofessional read more

I went here to get the Friday 13th tattoo and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I expected to get the simple flash tattoo as advertised. The wait was long but that was fine since I lived close by and could come when they called us. There was a lot of customers waiting which was expected BUT what was unexpected was when it was my turn I saw that the artist was drinking. Sure it's been a long day I get that but to be drinking and working on tattoos where you could mess up is UNPROFESSIONAL. They also did not ask people to sign waivers or check IDs like I experienced in other tattoo shops which I found odd. I put too much trust into them which I regret. After getting the tattoo and leaving the shop close to 1am, I looked closely and realized the tattoo had shading that I did not want at all (as it was suppose to be a simple fine line) and the artist (the owner) did not even ask me if I wanted shading. I was mad at this since this mistake will be on the body now. I went back the next day to complain, one of the employees apologized that this happened to me and said I can come back after it heals for them to lighten it up. I felt bad for bringing them into the situation but I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Overall my tattoo is botched and the fact that the artist did not ask permission if I wanted shading makes me even more angry. I'm trying to let it go but this is unacceptable! read more

I was looking to get my first tattoo. I had some locations in mind based on yelp reviews. I walked in and talked to the owner, Si'i, and after just a few moments of speaking with him I knew I'd get my tattoo here. As soon as I got home I decided not to check out the other locations and I called Si'i to set up an appointment. Si'i was the artist who tattooed my arm. My first tattoo was a 3/4 sleeve on my left arm (which later became a full sleeve). Si'i did a great job with my tattoo. Everyone compliments me on the work. Best of all, he did it freehand! Si'i is an awesome person to talk to as well. Si'i and his staff are very friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like family. ASK FOR ALLEK I was FINALLY able to clear my schedule just enough to get started on my long awaited tattoo. It's been many years since I've have the pleasure to feel that oh-so-heavenly pain of getting ink'd up. I made an appointment with an awesome artist named Allek and ventured down Brookhurst to get this bad boy started. Not fully settled on what I wanted on my arm, it took us some quality time and plenty of doodling until my artist illustrated my scattered ideas into that perfect tribal inspired piece that I finally agreed on. SUCCESS! The shop is your typical clean tattoo parlor with talented artists busy sketching and taking care of clients. They even have a nice little waiting area for all your waiting needs. LOL! On this particular day, the place was packed to the brim with people wanting a "consultation" and others waiting to get started. Every artist was seriously putting in work! That sweet buzz of painful harmony was ringing throughout the whole time I was there. Now, that's what I call a legit tattoo shop! I followed Allek from another tattoo shop in Stanton. I'm glad he found a kick ass place like this to call his new home. He's super laid back and easy to talk to. Allek has a lot of talent when it comes to creating any kind of art. So as promised, i got my 1st session done by danh for the koi outline with some shading on the water. Next session will probably be color. But, danh suggested that doing black all the way would look nice. Anyway, im happy that i listened to danh's suggestions. Im more than happy and satisfied eventhough it's only the outline. The work is clean. The lines are perfect (japanese style). Danh's work ethic is great. He made sure that i was comfortable physically and mentally. I'm very disappointed with A-Town and two of the tattoo artists. If I could give zero stars I would. Tattoos are forever and for me and my daughters who are part Hawaiian, a cultural tattoo has deep meaning. My oldest daughter designed a tattoo for the three of us using Hawaiian symbols. When it was time to find an artist to do the job she was told that we should go to A-Town. We went for not A-Town and the very friendly man at the counter, Tim talked to us about the tattoo and told us that we wanted Seymour. He also suggested a placement on the body based on the symbols. Since Seymour was not in he took our information and said Seymour would he back to us. We never heard back from Seymour and over the next two weeks my daughters called and stopped into leaving message for Seymour, but he never got back to us. This should have been our first clue and all we needed to know. Two weeks ago we went in asking for Seymour. The man at the counter walked of to get him. An artist came back and talked to us. He seemed bothered and disinterested in talking to us. He looked at the design and said there was too much in design. Only one symbol could work. So we wanted to discus the symbols with him and his response was, "they can mean whatever you want them to mean". This should have the second sign not to get a tattoo here but they came recommended. So we set a date and have him a down payment. When I saw the charge on my credit card I noticed that the artist was not Seymour but Lio. So I called to straighten this out. I wanted Seymour. Lio called me back pissed and yelled at me that I messed up his schedule. He said he already did the design and that he wasn't going to refund me my down payment. So I asked for the artwork, it is my daughters design. He refused to even let me see. I'll be looking for another shop. Seymour never got back to us and Lio didn't care enough about the meanings of the symbols. This was just money to him. To us this means something and we want a tattoo artist who cares. read more

I came in with some half-done work from another artist who recently relocated farther than I was willing to travels Carl was the only artist willing to take on the task of finishing this piece and I'm so grateful for him! THE PIECE: I asked him to make the flowers look more like a complete piece, and let him have artistic freedom over the best way to do it. He completely surprised me and I am IN LOVE with the result! He added in some more flowers (the one on the shoulder for example, FIRE). It was a long day but luckily Carl will be in the bay in two weeks for a tattoo convention to finish this up. THE SHOP: I loved the vibes here. Everyone was really welcoming--I spent the whole day here and came alone but it was nice to feel included! I got my first tattoo done here last December (2010) I was in LA with some friends for a few days and I had been planning on getting one done. The only problem was, I wanted a traditional tattoo done and I didn't want to get it done by just anyone. So after yelping this place, I thought I'd give it a try. I walked in and I felt like I was surrounded by family, everyone was very kind, they gave me an estimate as to how much my tattoo would cost and I was able to set up an appointment for the next day. When I got to the shop the next day for my appointment, no one was there and I ended up having to wait outside for an hour or two in the rain (hence, only 4 stars), but when Flo came she let my friends and I in and made us feel at home. I had my tattoo done by Hene and at first, I was a little nervous. The concept I wanted seemed to be a little difficult at first; I wanted the design on my tattoo to match a portion of my dad's tribal band but all I had for Hene was a somewhat blurry picture of my dad's tattoo on my phone. After a few sketches, I was finally satisfied with what he wanted to do. The whole process took about 4 hours which wasn't too bad, and the tattoo turned out even better than I had expected. Hene even added a few designs of his own into the tattoo while still making sure that it resembled my dads.
