Don't come here! Had my hair braided by Mercy and truly regret the whole experience. First when I came in for the scheduled appointment time, she had 2 people in front of me. Her and her mother gas lit me into staying by saying it's only 2 braids. Well that took an hour. Unfortunately, I was leaving out of town the next day so didn't have too many options and she promised she was going to do a great job - which (as seen in the photos) was a lie. Just to demonstrate how unprofessional Mercy and this Salon is - Service highlights: - I was never greeted had to introduce myself after 10 minutes - she got the wrong color of hair - hair I paid her for. - waited an hour after initial scheduled meeting time - spoke on the phone the whole time - her family showed up to the appointment - started rushing the braiding and was pulling at my scalp (apparently she was running late to something for her daughter) -although she is in the salon but only works at a booth Hair highlights - every strand is uneven - it's parted and cut in a way that makes the hair flop to my face - I have sores on my scalp due to the pulling - cannot put hair in a bun or get the air out of my face because every strand is different. The salon itself was very unhelpful and this was a terrible way to start a vacation. read more

This spot is amazing! Black owned. Woman owned. And they usually do amazing work at an affordable price. My issue is I booked late in the day for an appt the next day. They next morning (around opening) I called to make sure they got my appt and if I was good to come in considering the late scheduling. I was told the girl I scheduled an appt with wasn't in the shop so the owner was going to do it. Which is fine. I like Gail. She does great work. However, I didn't expect to be charged about $50 more than I expected simply because she was doing my hair. That said I still refer this shop. read more

Ive been going to Gail for about 10 years now. Since then she is the only person that I trust with my cuts, colors, presses and styles. She has cut my bobs, colored my hair safely and is now guiding me while i'm growing and transitioning to natural. She takes her time teaching me about my hair during different processes that I want to try and is always so knowledgeable about whats going to be best for my hair. Some stylists just do whatever and dont care about actual hair care and growth ..but she does!!! She tells me what I need to accomplish my hair goals and helps me do it! A true hair visionary! She is flexible and always willing to share her advice about hair care/growth. I always get so many compliments about my hair and many of my friends go to her now. She is a reliable and fast worker... No sitting in the hair salon for hours. Her booking is easy, simple. She provides many times and options. Also centrally located in Houston. I was first introduced to Gail by my aunt when she used to work at the salon inside of the Pearland Silverlake Walmart. Then she was nice, sweet and innocent. She spoke and listened to my hair needs, also her price was extremely reasonable only charging $65 for a Brazilian blowout. Then she left from Walmart to move into a salon with her friend. The same wonderful beautician I used to accustom myself to when I needed my hair on point. She was there every time I wanted to get my hair done. The main fact I liked about her is that she didn't talk trash about anybody while working on my hair, she wasn't disrespectful and she actually liked to hold a conversation with me. Also, she was respectful about not eating while working. At first, I loved the way she made my hair feel and how when I touched it, it was silky smooth in my hands... But, like they say, "All good things must come to an end" and they sure did as I stuck with my regular beautician. First, she moved into a nicer facility. A facility that even states what the rent is each month on the outside, but also feels it. A building that is packed full of other barbers and beauticians. Then, she raises her price to $75. I knew right there that I couldn't continue to become a regular customer with that hefty tag since I am a college student; I clearly understand that she has a job to fulfill as well as I do as a student, but it would be nice if she could offer some discounts for students. She gives discounts to her customers with permed hair, but not if you have natural virgin hair. On top of that, the last time I visited Gail's shop, she left a very sour taste in my mouth. Now, that she's doing better for herself and even has a bigger salon. She even has assistants who work the shampoo bowl, they do an alright job, but can't compete with the power of Gail's hands that I was used to. Also, Gail has turned into another person. Last time, I came in she had an attitude with me and I felt it, I'm sure it was because she wanted me to book an appointment via online, but she knows that I'm used to booking via text message (it has always been that way for years and she never had a problem with it) or the fact that I didn't tell her I was graduating.. She hardly spoke to me, instead she held a full conversation with her assistant and was gossiping about another person. Additionally, she was simultaneously eating doing my hair. Not very hygienic nor professional. Then, when she felt like she wanted to talk to me. She asked questions and I answered them and vice versa. However, she didn't listen and completely ignored what I said, just to hold a conversation with someone else. Rude! I'm guessing this is what people mean when they say, when people who start doing better for themselves, they change. I understand that people change, but what I can't comprehend is that if you start bettering yourself don't treat your longtime customers disrespectful and rude, then charge a professional price tag, when the service isn't professional within itself. Additionally, I did like how my hair looked, but I don't like that she doesn't use any moisturizer on my scalp when she is doing it. Straight from the wash bowl, to the heavenly heated blow dryer to the straightener comb. Its quite ridiculous. Another thing, whenever she uses the blow dryer--it temperature must be on the highest because I can literally feel my scalp frying--which has made my hair itch even more. Its so bad that she has my hair smelling like burned silky hair which isn't attractive nor beautiful. She knows that I have an itchy scalp and in the past she used to care about my needs and even then she would wash my hair with tea tree oil treated shampoo and conditioner, but now she doesn't. In fact, she doesn't even tell you what she is using on your hair. Also, she has a huge tenacity to always want to cut your ends and that's an additional $15. Its quite annoying. For all the time, I've been going to her, she never seems to actually recommend different styles, instead she seems to only know to do a Brazilian blowout and while all of that is good, but all the time continuously its not because it extensive heat damages the hair. I'm fed up with her service. I do thank my aunt again for the suggestion, but I guess I'm back at square one when finding a good beautician that's worth my time and money. read more

Gail is super profession and exceptionally talented at what she does. She does a great job of giving you what you want while maintaining the health of your hair. As well as sending you home with aftercare instructions to continue your healthy hair journey between visits. My last visit, I showed her one "inspo" photo and told her to do whatever she wanted, but couldn't be happier. At this point I don't trust anyone else with my hair. read more

1/27/18 was the 1st time I went to see Gail. I must admit, she did an awesome job!! I have a cousin thats been going to Gail for quite some time now and I always admired her hair. She's natural but if you look at her you would never know because its always so bouncy and flowy. I finally got the information from my cousin so I could try her out myself.
