Was asked to ask for Melissa. When I got there for my appointment told I had called for a wash and cut and told me she was ready for me. While she was washing my hair I explained i wear my hair in an Afro and wanted a blow dry hair-to cut ends. I asked about the brand name shampoo and conditioner she was using. She explained the conditioner she used was a good brand but was not the deep conditioner. Also explained that I just wanted ends trimmed. When she was done she had straightened mg hair line she was going to put curls in it and my Afro didn't stand. She charged me twice as much as they quoted which included a cut, shampoo, and full style which I wanted but also a texture add on and additional basic fee. So, after calling a couple of salons in a short amount of time, thankfully, I found this one! Who knew, Smart Styles located in Walmart would be any good? I surely didn't. I walked in and beautician Angeleak immediately assisted me. She washed, blow-dried, and styled my hair without being unprofessional. She wasn't eating while doing my hair or gossiping about others, she was just professional. She was very kind and patient with me. Also, she did my hair perfectly: she styled it so my curls would be full of volume, shining, not greasy looking, and whatever shampoo she used it got rid of my dandruff and my itchy scalp issues. I've been wearing my hairstyle for 2 months without it falling. It is really holding it up and I'm so excited I have found a great beautician. If in doubt, call Smart Styles and you won't be sorry. Disappointing Silk Press Experience - Blo Pearland…read more I visited Blo Pearland today, 8/22/2026, for a silk press. I've been getting silk presses for years, and even with longer/thicker hair, the service has never taken more than about two hours--and that's really pushing it. First, I want to say that the salon itself is beautiful. The decor and ambiance were nice, and everyone I interacted with was friendly. When I booked, I didn't see an option to select a specific stylist. When I arrived, I was greeted by a very friendly young lady, and before we started, I specifically asked if she was knowledgeable and comfortable working with natural Black hair. She assured me that she was. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that. I have naturally curly hair and am very familiar with what my hair requires for a silk press. The process took an extremely long time, even with another person eventually helping in the salon. In my experience, the lack of familiarity with my hair texture seemed to contribute significantly to how long the service took. Normally, my hair is blow-dried using a comb attachment, which gets the hair stretched and smooth before the flat iron. Instead, a round brush was used, and that portion of the process took a very long time. I will say that I have had my hair professionally dried with a round brush before and achieved beautiful bounce and movement without needing a flat iron, so I understand that a round brush can absolutely work--it just didn't seem to be effective or efficient for my hair during this service. After all of that time, the flat iron process finally began. Unfortunately, less than two hours after leaving the salon, my hair was already becoming frizzy. A silk press should last significantly longer than that, especially considering the price. I paid $100 for a silk press, with no trim, no steaming, and no deep conditioning under a dryer. At that price, I expected a smooth, long-lasting result. Instead, I spent a significant amount of time and money on a service that didn't even last the day. I want to emphasize that the stylist was very nice and everyone at the salon was friendly. My issue is not with anyone's attitude--it's the quality and efficiency of the service and, most importantly, the lack of lasting results on my natural hair. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not return for a silk press. I hope the salon considers ensuring that stylists performing silk presses are thoroughly trained and experienced with a variety of natural hair textures. Also my experience might have been better with another stylist.
