I have been going to AWT ever since I was 18 (currently 23). My older sister actually turned me on to it- and I really think that explains the vibe there. As many reviewers have said, it's a body-positive, sex-positive, queer-friendly, feminist sex shop. It is a safe place. I have always felt comfortable there, unlike many other sex shops. The owners are also something special. I once went in to find a book about pelvic pain. Dr. Myrtle not only found me a great book, she also answered a lot of my questions, recommended me a specialist gynecologist, and validated my frustrations about not feeling heard by many doctors. A few years later (only a year ago), I survived a traumatic experience, and felt I would never want to be sexual again. In August I went back in to AWT and found a book about regaining your sexuality after trauma. The staff members could tell I was uneasy buying this book and after I was done checking out, she told me that I was going to be ok and I would get through this. It warmed my heart so much. A few days ago, I went in looking for new toys to experiment with and explained my situation to them. They were so amazing, they reminded me that feeling good like that was a great thing and reassured me that I was going to be ok. AWT is a sex shop. But it's also way more than that. read more

It gives me no joy to say this, because I was looking forward to support a local queer-owned business. My partner and I came in: she had been shopping there for years, but it was my first time. After a few minutes, when we were alone in the store with just one employee (who we believe is an owner), I was treated more rudely than maybe I ever had been before by a business. My partner and I had been talking, and my mask began to slip below my nose, since the mask goes under my chin it has a tendency to move down when I talk, and I often have to pull it up back over my nose. The top edge was still touching the tip of my nose, but it had fallen not even a centimeter underneath my nose. The woman at the counter, in a very hostile and contemptuous manner, angrily barked at me that I needed to wear my mask properly. I hadn't even realized my mask had slipped and I was flabbergasted. She was about 15 feet away from us, one of three in a large room, mind you. I explained to her, as calmly as I could, that my mask had slipped ever so slightly because my partner and I were speaking to each other. She backed off slightly and then said to let her know if we had any questions about products, but the damage was done and I felt completely attacked. We were both appalled and immediately left. I understand being careful during this pandemic. I always wear my mask in public, I'm vaccinated, and boosted. From spring 2020 to 2021 I avoided shopping anywhere outside of the grocery store and did not eat/drink inside any bar/restaurant. But here I was treated like some sort of anti-masker for a tiny problem with my mask, something I hadn't even noticed until she derisively ordered me to pull it up a few millimeters. Even if my mask was TRULY below my nose, which it really wasn't (my nostril and entrance to my nasal cavity was not exposed), all she needed to do was politely ask me to pull my mask up a little bit since it slipped. Instead, she spoke to me with the most insolent, scornful tone as if I'd just grievously insulted her or her family. It felt like blind hatred being directed towards me. This is an everyday, trivial mishap. It's kind of like your shoelace becoming untied. It certainly did not warrant being spoken to as if I was tearing apart the books we were standing by. I was not actively moving my mask down nor did I decide that I'd wear my mask like that. I know how to wear a mask. Was this woman just watching me and waiting for my mask to slip so she could chastise me? Sure felt like it. Had she not seen me wearing the mask over the tip of my nose when I entered and just assumed I walked around wearing my mask improperly? Or was she just being petty? Was she on a power trip? Regardless, I couldn't believe how mean-spirited and rude this woman was to me. I'm not going back and my partner doesn't want to continue giving them business. I already was feeling self-conscious about being in a sex store for only the second or third time in my life, the last thing I need is a Karen disdainfully scolding me for a super minor infraction. I expect to be treated with respect whenever I enter a business, and I'd think that a store like this would want all its customers to feel comfortable and welcomed. Great selection and knowledgeable staff. Their staff is so professional, patient, and understanding. It's almost like they can read your mind. They always ask if my wife or I have any questions. The last time we were in, my wife went one direction and I another. My wife being is the more outgoing person in our marriage. Although we're in our mid 50s and I've been trying to learn something new everyday to make our relationship stronger, I'm sure I looked puzzled, confused, embarrassed, but also interested to the staff. One staff member asked if I had any questions and I quickly replied "no" but I actually had a lot of questions. She was very professional and not pushy in anyway. After staring at the same section for a few minutes the sales person came back over. She asked again but before I could say no, she explained the different items in front of me and also gave me a handout which covered just about every question I could think of. Each section in the store had free informative handouts on the different items. Both my wife and I have tomorrow off and she asked if we wanted to go shopping at one of our two favorite stores. We were talking with each other, both wearing masks the proper way. Because my jaw was moving while talking, my mask slipped slightly below my nose. When I say slightly, I mean it had fallen below the tip of my nose by a few millimeters. We were standing about 15 feet from the staff member at the counter, with no one else in the store, and she angrily scolded me for not wearing my mask properly. I've never been spoken to in that kind of tone when at someone's business, especially when doing nothing really wrong. This was an honest, minor problem: I hadn't even realized it had slipped. I said to her "what do you mean, it's on properly!" and she told me it had fallen. My partner and I were flabbergasted. After pulling it up, we immediately left. If my mask slips because I'm talking, I am happy to pull it up with a gentle reminder. This was a forceful, snappy, and very condescending remark directed towards me. My partner wondered after I left if she would have been spoken to as angrily (I am a cis man) had her mask fallen. I get having people follow proper mask-wearing, but it wasn't as if I entered the store with the mask way below my nose. It slipped as I was there because I was talking to my partner. What I do NOT get is making your customers feel like garbage and talking to them like you're a mean schoolteacher for a very minor thing. We both wondered if she just wanted to flex on a cis man who entered her store, even though I was doing something that most people wouldn't even notice. I will not be coming back. read more

I actually first set foot into A Woman's Touch on a field trip for Human Sexuality 160. I swear I heard harps and angels singing as soon as we all piled into the store. It was just so beautiful. The sky opened and light poured in and blinded me. Well, okay you get the picture. Not only is it tasteful, but the staff and website provides great information put out in a very no nonsense, you are not the only one, really you are not alone kind of way. A Women's Touch does not only stock quality products but it really strives to educate its customers as well. Their selection is very wide from vibrators to videos to games, books and countless other little pleasures I have yet to discover. Products are a bit pricey compared to other shops (just a heads up), but it's because their products are all of the absolute highest quality (plus, all battery-opperated toys come with a set of fresh batteries). I've bought lots of toys and accessories there over the years and never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and open, answering questions and educating about the materials, cleaning, and use of toys. Aside from the friendly atmosphere, the best part of AWT is the hands-on shopping. Most places have everything in packages, etc, but at AWT a demo of every toy is right out on the shelves so you can get a feel for it, with batteries where needed so you can turn them on.
