A technician came out and "inspected" our garage door for 2 hours. Told us we needed repairs of $5,000 or replace it for $10,000. We did not do either of these because it was working fine. When he left the garage door made more noise and was much slower opening and closing. About 2-3 weeks later the garage door would not open. We called another company and it just needs a repair of $500!! A1 Garage Door is a total rip off and have no integrity. read more

Briefly, the service guys have to be working on commission, as it was a total hard sell of additional service and total motor replacement etc, when all we wanted was a tune up of our 2 garage doors. When I did not purchase from his what was to be immediate work done proposal, I asked if he had done the service tuneup (oiling) that was requested. I am not sure where these other people came up with these bad ratings. I heard about them on Am radio in May of 2025. A 29 point inspection and standard wheels for a great price. At my Phoenix house Christopher Harvey was the tech I explained to him I would only be here 5 more years and he said no problem lets just stay with the special. I hired them again for my Prescott house 2 garage doors. Robert Waren and Branaghan Cunninham the techs showed up as one was in training. When they discussed the life time rollers and springs price I almost fell down. As a I am am a Do It Yourself guy, an Information Technology guy, an my good friend owns a handy man company. I am their worst nightmare as I know the cost to do what they do. Now the good news I got a very good deal on the rollers and 29 point inspection. They explained to me and showed me why I need the springs. Then showed me how bad of shape they were in, the cable was old but not fraying, the roller that holds the cable was replaced, the double door had a plastic bearing which they replaced with a solid metal one. Yes it was pricy. I saw my dad almost lose his hand replacing the spring on his own. I have successfully replaced a spring on my own too. One of the springs on my garage door broke and the door was stuck halfway open. It was after business hours and the only company I found with emergency service was A1 Garage door services. They charged $200 to come out which I agreed to. When the tech arrived, he said it would be an additional $300 just to get the garage door closed. I wasn't sure what was involved but really had no choice as I couldn't leave the door half open for the night and next day as we had early appointments. It took him only 45 mins to get the door closed. The tech then showed me 3 repair plans. I chose the cheapest which was $1,302.16. that seemed high to me but I had no idea what other companies were charging, we were tied up all of the next day and I wasn't sure how long it would take to get someone else. Since this company does a lot of advertising and you see their trucks all the time, I figured it shouldn't be more than 20 to 25% higher and I needed to get it done, so I agreed to the price. It turned out to be substantially higher, as other items were found which the tech said needed replacement. They replaced the springs, cables, lift drums, weather stripping and end bearing plates. The total was $1,875.58. The tech did a nice job and the door works fine. Out of curiosity, a couple of days later I called two local reputable companies for quotes for the same items. Guaranteed Door Services was $928 and Neuman High country Doors was $943. That's half the cost of A1. Add at least $200 overcharge for lowering the door comes to over $1,100. I feel this is gouging and will never use them again. read more

Jesse was pleasant and found the problem which was misaligned sensors and corrected it and explained several things about how the system operates. My dissatisfaction came from being seriously upsold. We called A-1 because our garage door was not fully opening or closing. Of course, once the technician arrived, it didn't do that! Adam Parent, our technician, began to carefully inspect and diagnose our problem. He performed a tune-up and recommended that we replace our aging cables and bearings, which we did. We discussed a new opener but decided to defer it for a while. After Adam left, the door decided to be wiggy AGAIN. We called Adam and fortunately he was able to come back. The problem was indeed the opener. He worked for a couple hours more installing a new opener and fixing a few more problems. He did an outstanding job and now we have a nice, quiet, properly working opener and door. He even programmed my husband's truck to open the door. We were able to get service quickly, within a couple days of our call. Adam was a very hard worker, spending quite a few hours at our home. One small criticism, that isn't the tech's fault: they charge a $39 "mandatory trip charge" that "covers diagnostic and dispatch fee". That should be waived if work is actually performed. Our final bill was more than $2K. Another questionable fee is "shop supply fee" for screws, nuts and bolts - ??? Isn't that just a cost of business? Our shop fee ended up a whopping $121.14. That seems pricey for nuts, bolts, and lubricant. UPDATE, 5/5/23 - I changed this to 5 stars because Adam came by without charge today to program my car's garage door opener after my husband gave up trying to get it to work. A1 Garage Door Service - I waited for 2 days to post this so I have calmed down a little. My husband had a coupon from A1 Garage for a $59 tuneup. He made an appointment with them. To drive the 5 miles from their office they charged $40. After he had everything torn apart he told my husband it would be about $1200 to fix everything. My husband quickly called Neumann Doors (who we usually have work on it) to see how much they would charge. They weren't able to get back to us in time. So we paid $1290.94 to have cables, springs and a tune up. When Neumann called back, they quoted us $495. We also called Hung Rite Doors to see what they would charge. Their quote was $450. The whole time A1 was here, he constantly told us there were so many other things we wrong. He wanted us to buy a new door or have $3000 in repairs to ours. We are on a fixed income and are in our late 70s. We really can't afford to be ripped off. read more

I really just wanted a tune up, but wound up with a laundry list of parts that needed to be replaced with a huge price tag. I don't doubt that many of the parts need replacing because the garage is over 20 years old, however, the quotes were not even close to competitive. The quality of the install was terrible, the installer was rude, and worst of all, it will take 2 weeks for them to come back and fix it! I have a 3 car garage with 2 doors and an outside control panel which I did not know the code for. The remote(s) for the two doors were not working very well and the selling agent for the house was not help, in fact nasty. Anyway, I called A1 Garage Door Service and Jesse came out and we thought we fixed the code issue. A few days later, the code would not work and when I tried to change batteries, it seems to have wiped out prior programming. I called A1 again and Jesse came out again and spent a lot of time repairing and replacing the two garage doors plus, reinstalling the code and new remotes. Garage motor burnt out on a Wednesday called A1, they were supposed to be here Friday but technician got caught up in Flagstaff which I understand these things can happen, so we rescheduled for Saturday from 3 to 6. My husband and I had plans and we canceled them, waited all day for them to come around and nobody showed up when I called the front office the guy tried to blame it on me that I never called them back to reschedule, , which is b******* and I have the phone records to prove it! Ok so this place is awesome. I live in Phoenix and my mother (elderly, just turned 79) lives in the Chino Valley area and we are looking to try and sell her home. During this process the garage door starts to legit fall apart causing the framing to crack etc. A neighbor recommends A1 so I look them up right away. Now mind you, this is on a Friday afternoon. They answer me right away and we have a consult set up for the very next morning. They go out to the house, draw up a quote for the full project and we agreed. Monday they confirm they have all the project pieces in stock and can do it Wednesday. They show up right on time and have the project completed on schedule. This was by far the easiest experience I have ever had with a project this size. They were super kind on the phone and to my mother throughout this entire process. Probably the worst experience I have had with a contractor. I purchased a replacement 16'x10' garage door for my shop . They told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks before it comes in. They call and told me the door was in and we scheduled the install for the second of January 2024. I removed my existing door the Sunday before the install date to save some money. The day of the install A1 calls and tells me they can not find my new door in the warehouse. Not sure how a door that size gets lost. They will have to reorder the door. I told them i had already removed the door in anticipation of the new one being installed. Zach from the installation team said that was unfortunate. So I had to purchase a tarp to cover the hole and pretty much freeze while working in there for seven days. The install team showed up seven days later to install the new door but they run short of the seal material that runs vertically on each side of the door. The technician told me they will call to schedule installing the seals when they come in. Two weeks pass and I called still January, to see what the statues was on the seals. The lady I spoke with said that a warranty work order was open ( not a complete the install work order ) and the parts were on order, I will be contacted when they show up. I called them 4/15/24 the person I spoke to was just perplexed as to why it has been close to 3 months. On 4/17/24 Gonzalo showed up to install the seals. Today I had an appointment with a door technician from A1 Garage Door. His name was Jesse and he was quite knowledgeable on doors and openers. He performed a minor Tune-Up on the door and remedied the clunk that it had. He advised me of a possible future upgrade on a 2 year old door which I attribute to maybe not being installed by a professional in the first place. If I could provide negative stars, I certainly would. After spending nearly $2600 on a garage door, a second service call for lack of sealing, my door still has gaps and the garage is cold and with lots of insects that were not there prior to the replacement. You can feel the air and see the light entering in around all edges of the door. This has to be one of the most frustrating experiences.. You can clearly see the seals do not touch the door in certain areas and the only thing they did was place more nails in the trim on the seconnd service visit. To my total disbelief, I was completely blown off. Do not use this company. While they appear to care and potentially provide quality service, it is sub par on many levels. Looks like it will cost me about $250 from another locAl company to fix the errors this company has made. I should sent the bill to them to pay for their errors. Three other local companies reported the trim needs moved inward and/or the garage door adjusted. So much for paying for a quality. Update: After posting on Yelp, Joel reaches out to me and had a technician out to make adjustments to the door. They were more than willing to work around my schedule. The adjustments did not seal the door, so Jack ordered parts and came back out on another day that worked in my schedule. The garage door is 99% sealed and I am pleased with A1. I wish I could give 5 stars, however due to having to resort to social media prior to having a proper repair, makes me only able to provide 4 stars. I would recommend this company and will use them again for any future encounters. Of course I will have to insist on select field technicians, like Jack, who went above and beyond to attempt to satisfy us on the first visit. They deserve NO stars. Early Monday morning I called to schedule a repair. I had a class every afternoon and needed to leave home by noon. The earliest appointment was 8 am to noon on Thursday, so I took it. Wednesday night I received a message telling me they couldn't make the appointment and they knew Thursday afternoon wasn't good for me, but that's when they could come. I called back and listened to a 10 minute tape bragging they were "rated 5 stars on Yelp." When I finally got to a human, she offered to reschedule the appointment. I asked, "Why? I've built several new homes in the Prescott area and had many Garage doors installed. I'm retired now but needed another garage door installed. I know what's involved and how it should work. I saw a a1Garage door ad and decided to try them. ( Big Mistake ) When a1 installed the door it sagged in the center and would not go up and down properly. They wanted $20. for gas to check it, Then they said it needed a strut that would cost $134. I refused to pay. After arguing several minuted they did not charge me. Then it quiet working again, Again they wanted a service charge. Again I refused to pay a extra charge. They said I have to pay or they won't come again. Their ad says Life time warranties. I called and scheduled an appointment to have my garage spring replaced and took a day off work to do so. First the tech shows up without his truck (it was broken down?) and quotes me for 2 springs (only one broke). He tells me he will return by 10am... By 11:30 no tech, no call. I get a call later saying the truck is coming soon, so can he come by later? Sure, I am flexible. Schedule 4pm time, then someone from the office calls me to cancel. Sorry the truck is broken still... Ah. Now it is a Saturday call (4 days from now)... Yeah no thanks, I went with another local company that was half their quoted price AND did it in 15 minutes!!! I had Jess from A-1 garage service out for a yearly garage door service. They had a coupon for $40.00. When Jess arrived he said they also charged a trip fee of 25.00 for the tune-up special. This was not in the ad, nor was I notified of this extra expense when I scheduled. One of the main services of a tune-up should be a spring adjustment. It just takes minutes for a trained tech to conduct this adjustment. Jess said he could not do the spring adjustment because they were not the original installers and instead offered to install new springs with prices ranging from several hundred dollars upwards to 700 - a typical upsell strategy. I will not be using A1 again. Others I have since called do include the spring adjustment. read more

Our garage door was hanging-by-a-thread, as it came out of the track at the top on its way down. The worst part was, we were moving ina week so all out possessions were packed up and boxed---in the garage under the falling-out door. (I wish I could post a picture---it was wild). I'm torn. 1. On the one hand, the first time we called they said "we don't service your area" and then hung up on us, even though we live in the city of Flagstaff, a listed area they serve. We called back and luckily got a different dispatcher. On the other hand, they answered on a Sunday around 3 pm. No other companies did. 2. On the one hand, the second phone call dispatch was very helpful and said I've got you in for first thing Monday morning. They comprehended that the garage door was just barely hanging on and we couldn't wait days. On the other hand, the service tech informed us that he never got a page-out on Sunday and he would've come up Sunday evening to fix our garage---they don't like to leave their customer's hanging! This was awesome humor that we needed with our garage door "hanging" on. But we really wish he had come up Sunday night. 3. We got charged the "emergency call out" fee of $200 in addition to the $200 repair (after coupon from the internet), even though they didn't come on Sunday evening which is what I would consider an emergency charge. The dispatcher never informed us that being booked in first thing Monday morning would constitute an emergency fee. On the plus, the repair guy was great and nice and quick and arrived on time if not early. Still I cannot recommend fully a company that 1) hangs up on you the first time you call and 2&3) doesn't dispatch someone until the next day but still charges you the emergency call out fee. If they hadn't charged that fee (they could've charged like a "within 24 hrs fee" of $100) but I'm sorry next day when I call at 3 or 5 pm isn't a $200 emergency call out. read more

He called me 10mins later and said he would be here in 20mins. He was on time, super nice individual. Made necessary adjustments, checked everything to make sure everything was working properly. After the second time they cancelled on us we were promised they would b here today between 8am and 9 am. No show and no call. We called and they then said between 2pm and 3 pm. It is now 4 pm and not here. I would advise you to look elsewhere for a garage door company. 0 stars As a follow up to my review above, I received an upgrade on the garage door and a call from the company with an apology. I have a 11' h x 14' wide door that jammed and burned out the motor. A1 sent a residential tech to look at it. He realized that this was a commercial door and promised to turn it over to the commercial dept. Nothing happened for a week. When I called in to find out the status, I was told that Alex must have forgotten to relay the message. An appointment was scheduled for the following Monday. On Monday I got a call that the service truck had broken down and the appointment would be the next Monday. So here I am, with a service that really doesn't care about me. They only go to Prescott on Mondays, so their idea was that I should put up with their unwillingness to change their schedule. I am now looking for another firm. read more

They had all the info they needed for the Job. the estimator wanted me to call them back and give them the job name. I told him he should be doing this not me. He became disgruntled. I told him to forget about it and don't call me back I don't work for your company. You have all my info if your company has a problem between departments don't get me involved. I am quite less than pleased at this point. They come to my home and I order a garage door. About a week of two later, I get a call to schedule install and have a date set. Then the following week I get a call saying my door was delayed and they need to reschedule. Ok, I understand things happen, but this is a contract failure on their part and to rearrange my schedule for the company is bothersome. Ok, so install day comes and they replace my garage door. I do a brief inspection as I am in the middle of a work meeting and away they go. After a closer inspection later on, I see the garage door is not sealing completely. I text them, as they inform me the response will be faster and I get told to call the office. What is the point of texting? I set another appointment for someone to come and make adjustments. I am informed it is just the sun shining in around the edges. If that were the case, wouldn't I see light from top to bottom, not just in spots. The gentleman attempted repair, and much to my disappointment, the door is still not sealed. I am beyond frustrated. I spend over $2500 on a garage door and was informed it would be sealed tight, however they fail to come through on the promise. I plan on contacting a local contractor to fix the situation. My intent is to send them the bill for this, and potentially a complaint with BBB. We live in Arizona and having a home sealed up as much as possible is a requirement to avoid any insects gaining entrance into our homes. At this point, I feel the only recourse the company could possibly attempt to make is to have a manager come out and repair it properly, but I do not even want to call the company.
