They held my truck hostage for 10 weeks and 4 days, charged me over $4,100 for a rear differential rebuild, and lied to me every step of the way. The Bait: Jim (Ogden Owner) quoted a 7-hour rebuild once parts arrived. I paid a $2,000 deposit immediately. The Ghosting: The moment they had my money, all communication ceased. When I called, Jim blamed his own problems on me--complaining about firing employees, forgetting to order enough parts, and delaying my truck. The Blame Game: At week 7, Jim shipped my truck to the Sandy location under Blaine (Manager). When I called for updates, Jim told me to call Blaine because he "would not call" his own store. Blaine then told me to call Jim because the work started in Ogden. They refused to speak to each other and used the double-location setup to dodge accountability. The Excuses: When I finally got Blaine to talk, he blamed further delays on his mechanic needing time off for immigration court. The Audacity: After nearly 3 months of deception, they demanded the final $4,100+ balance or they would keep my truck. Working with Tanner Transmission has been one of the worst experiences in my life…read more Tl;Dr DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS This story begins in 2023, when I had a transmission problem and heard from a trusted source that Tanner Transmission would be the best place to go to be taken care of. I paid the cost, and got a 100,000 mile warranty. Fast forward about a year: the transmission starts slipping, and it turns out that despite me coming in for annual checkups, they have no record of me getting the servicing done for the vehicle. I didn't believe it at first, but at some point it seemed cheaper to just get the repair done again and make sure that I absolutely did everything to keep up with the warranty. Two years later, the transmission fails catastrophically, with the car only being able to function in first gear. I bring the car in, because I know I have the warranty and for some reason have some trust that they will get the job done. That was a colossal mistake. My car sat there for 86 days, with me calling nearly every business day to check in on when I could get my car. Every time I called, Blaine would tell me that I should expect it next week. Then the week came, and I had to wait until next week once again. And then the next, and the next, and the next. My car was there for EIGHTY-SIX DAYS. THREE MONTHS OF MY LIFE of begging for rides, hiking to trax stations, and overall working around their schedule. Then the day comes, and to say something positive: Tanner did honor the warranty and did not charge me (Even though at this point I've already paid twice). However, the car initially had the check engine light and all wheel drive locked on. I thought this was weird, so I took the car to get the alignment done (As instructed by Tanner transmission after getting the Transmission reinstalled) only for them to tell me that the car was giving a transmission error code. The mechanics advised me it could be something that perhaps Tanner forgot to clear before giving the car back, so it might be fine. TWO HOURS LATER the code was back, and the transmission was already slipping again. I am beyond furious. What was the point of wasting that THREE MONTHS if all they were going to do was sit around telling me that they would fix the car, only to have the car not work after less than 24 hours of having it back in my possession? Tanner Transmission has frankly ruined my summer road trip plans, has put strain on my relationships, and has lost me more sleep than finals week in college. Whatever you do, do not give them the time of day.

I get an invoice on Monday for $185 and a recommended service that would've added another $323. For what I wonder? Oh that's just the single hour rate plus shop supplies and tax. An hour to tell me they didn't hear the noise anymore? That would've taken 5 minutes on a test drive. That's all I wanted. I never asked for them to inspect the whole car for problems (which they did anyway). I certainly wasn't expecting to pay close to $200 for a problem that apparently went away. When I went in to pick up my car, I asked about that. I pointed out that their hourly rate was nowhere to be found and I didn't like that I was blindsided by it after the fact. The owner told me to look on his website. I already had. Just to make sure after I got home, I looked again. Still no mention of the hourly rate anywhere on the website and certainly nowhere to be found in the lobby. This would be a completely different story had they actually found the noise that I'd been hearing and completely different yet again if they'd actually posted their hourly rate. I was fully expecting to pay them for identifying the sound, that's not the problem here. They just straight up didn't do that and instead did extra work and charged me for it. Should I have been clear that if for some reason the noise didn't happen anymore that I just wanted a call back to come pick up my car? Probably. I just didn't at all see that as a possibility because I'd looked and hadn't seen anything super obvious and yet the noise persisted across multiple times turning the car on and off and driving at various speeds. Both of our faults? Maybe. But clear communication earlier in the process would have been awesome.
