up selling all the time at this location, even when there's no repair to be made. they failed my car at inspection time. Reason? A bad steering rack that will be 1400 . Had it looked at at my mechanic, no steering problems leaks or trouble at all . What was Triple As answer? Will do the steering job for 950. Wrong answer guys. Forget it. Got my inspection done elsewhere, passed it, and I've been driving problem free since. You'll never see another dollar of mine. read more

Do not even consider using this place. I am a loyal 40 year AAA member. This past Saturday I made an appointment for 3 pm today(Monday) to have a very simple NC state inspection. I arrived at 3 pm and they told me I would have a 90 minute wait for a simple NC state inspection. When I asked what is the benefit of making a reservation I was told this is like a doctors office -- sometimes they are on schedule and sometimes not! No apologies; nothing. I went across the street to Jiffy Lube. They had my inspection done in 5 minutes. I won't ever go back to the AAA car center on Glenwood, and I will let AAA know about the ludicrousness of their appointment system. I would give this establishment 0 stars, but the system forces me to give them one star. read more

My Vehicle was towed to AAA Repair Center in Glenwood Ave, Raleigh for brake problem. The AAA Technician checked the car and told me that the braided brake line needs to be replaced. That piece has to be ordered from the dealer and it can't be purchased from regular stores like AutoZone. Luckily, I was able to take the old one and check it with two different local mechanics. They both checked the original one and told me that they are fine and they should not be replaced. On the day of pickup, I got a call from AAA stating that the master cylinder is not good also and needs to be replaced as well. When I went there to pick up my car, they told me someone hit your caliper and is also being replaced. I was told that the caliper is what made the master cylinder and braided brake line to go bad. Of course that was blamed on SEARS because the car was towed from there. I have asked a local mechanic and searched online and found that the caliper should not make the other two parts to go bad. They are two separate issues. As soon as I took the car, the VSA light was on. I returned it to AAA to check what is going on. The diagnostic came up stating that there is something wrong with the engine and transmission plus the ABS system failed. AAA representative said that the car needs a lot of work and there is a problem with the transmission. The cost to fix all of that will probably go over 10 grands. I just took the car from there because I felt like I am not in the right place. I was told by the dealer that any work in the ABS system should follow a reprogramming to the VSA. So I reprogrammed outside of AAA. From what I truly understood about this whole situation is as follow. There was three pieces have been replaced by AAA and one of them was the only one that needed to be replaced and the other two were fine. If the caliper was the problem at the first place, then that is something should be addressed first because it is something visual and easy to diagnose. While AAA waited to the last minute to tell me that, it means the caliper was destroyed at the AAA shop. For the prices, AAA has over charged me way too much according to many of the local mechanics, Auto parts and internet work estimations. To replace the 3 pieces, AAA charged me over $1300 before discount. Other local auto shops estimating the cost to be between $300 to $450 including everything parts and labor. I was not just paying for the unnecessary parts and labor, but also over charged. I am really disappointed on how all this process went and asking a partial refund of all of the extra and unnecessary charges. read more

Brought my car back here because the 3 year old AAA battery was no longer any good. Lots of bad reviews about these batteries so stay away from them! You'd think that a service garage would use a memory saver before they disconnect the battery.. not here... Had to reprogram everything. You're better off going to places like Advanced Auto.. at least they can quickly check the battery and do an on the spot replacement for you.. all in about 10 minutes of time and for free. Plus you get a better quality battery and they plug in the memory saver without even thinking about it. Not impressed with AAA Care Care Center at all read more

Actually the rating is an average of 5 stars for service and 3 stars for the quality of their batteries. First, the backstory. Bought a 2008 Escape in 2011 which, unknown at the time, had a dying battery. When it didn't start one morning, exactly one week after purchase, I made 2 calls; one to AAA to replace the battery and the other to the dealership to raise hell (they eventually reimbursed me). AAA mobile battery service came out to me, tested the battery and charging system and said yep it's bad. He replaced it and provided me a three year warranty..which I never thought I would have to use, until that battery also died. I was able to get it to this AAA Center to have it replaced under warranty. Long story short, they were courteous, they honored the warranty, but they didn't have my battery in stock so they had to send out to NAPA for a replacement. Due to the extra wait they charged me nothing when I was expecting to pay some nominal fee for labor. AAA actually ate the cost of the NAPA brand battery and labor cost without my having said a word. Very impressive. Considering I am not a current AAA member. A word about their batteries. They suck. I have no idea who manufactures car batteries with the AAA logo but they are the worst. Not only did it last less than three years but the difference between the NAPA battery and the old AAA battery is night and day. I do know something about alternators and batteries. Even with a brand new battery, if it's unable to maintain a charge the alternator has to work harder to keep it charged, that translates into loss of engine performance and mileage. All this time, between the original bad battery and the subsequent crappy AAA battery my gas mileage and engine power have suffered. Since the AAA battery is now gone, and my Escape is running on a real battery, the difference in MPG and performance is nothing less than astonishing. Bottom line, and the point being, do not get a AAA battery. They're garbage. read more

Wayne took great care of me. Work was done quickly and effectively. This location is very clean and very comfortable. My observance of all the reps showed me that everyone is professional. I was quite impressed. A little tip for for people who own vehicles... Regular maintenance helps prevent those "up sells" and prolongs the life of your car. I understand that is not always possible when you are on a tight budget, or working min. wage, believe me, I've been on both sides of that coin. AAA was my third try after getting told from other places that they were under staffed and blew me off. Terry was very helpful. If you're a AAA member, the $17-20 oil change coupons are worth it. However, I question why they slap on a windshield sticker that indicates you need the next oil change at 3,000 miles! Almost all new cars recommend not less than 5K and some up to 8K between oil changes. To suggest 3,000 miles is ridiculous! I also find fuel injector service is generally a rip-off and AAA tries to push this every 30,000 miles or 24 months; I still maintain the same high MPG rating in my car now that I did some 5-6 years ago and never paid for the fuel injector (cleaning) service. If you make an appointment, they proceed pretty quickly; out the door for just an oil change in an hour and this facility is still maintained almost "brand new" with a nice waiting area and free Wi-Fi. Just don't fall for all of the suggested "extras" and you'll be okay. I don't blame just AAA Carolinas, as most car repair places do the same thing (push maintenance and repairs that you likely don't need). read more

Avoid at all cost!!! Took my 4Runner in on Sep 1 for a brake, power steering and transmission flush. On Sep 2nd I wanted to grease a few areas on the drive line and while crawling around under the vehicle noted that the dry rotted rubber boots that cover the brake bleed valves were still in place. They fell apart when I touched them. So red flag right there. I then popped the hood to look a the brake fluid reservoir and noted the fluid was darker than it should have been along with the Power steering fluid reservoir. Brake fluid test with my tester indicated 3% water in the system, so brake fluid was not changed. Assumed the same for the power steering based on color of the fluid and that the brake fluid tested positive for water. I sent transmission fluid out to an independent lab for testing and they confirmed my suspicions that fluid was not changed either. Wonder how many folks out there have gone in for a fluid flush and didn't get what they paid for? I'm now looking at testing the other fluids they claimed to have changed back in Feb. read more

I went to the AAA car care center at 3921 Western in Raleigh. They charged me $649i to replace spark plugs and ignition wires.and coil. I thought it was dishonest but I was caught. My engine light was on. They diagnosed for a new catalyst converter. Cost for this would be $698.72. I went to White Walls and they diagnosed it as a clog in the cat conv. No charge. They suggested I put in hi-test gas and a can of engine cleaner. I did. The light went off after 3 miles.The total charge $18. White Walls is an honest car care center AAA?? After leaving my car there for an oil change and tire rotation, I receive a phone call 4 hours later from them telling me that my gas was completely out of gas and they couldn't even drive it into the bay. Admittedly, the gas light DID come on during my 5 minute drive to AAA, but I told them I was pretty sure there was a gas in the car. They again told me there DEFINITELY wasn't and said I would just have to come put gas in it. Also, why did it take them 4 hours to even get to my car ? My boyfriend and I go to get the car, turn it on, and proceed to drive around the parking lot 3 times to make the point , then drive it to a gas station. if they had even attempted to run/drive it, they would have realized there was gas. Also, if they had listened to me, the owner of the car who drives in EVERY DAY for the past 2 years, they would have investigated further. In a way I am glad this happened. If they can't even tell whether or not a car is out of gas, I am pretty sure I don't want them working on my car. read more

I used this service for something minor. I felt that they were indecisive, unorganized and billed incorrectly. They billed for one specific part then installed something different to resolve the issue. When I finished up, I was told that the price was the same.... My later internet research showed that the two parts do NOT cost the same amount. The first costs twice the price of the second. Quess which one I paid for.... Their shuttle service is unreliable. The front desk doesn't communicate properly with the shuttle driver. read more

For the first time I noticed my car with 128,000 miles overheating. The temperature was returned to normal when I topped off the radiator with fluid. Within a week and approximately 100 miles later I needed to refill the radiator to bring the temperature gauge to normal (25%). The next morning I drove the car (with no overheating whatsoever) to the AAA shop when they opened. The technician showed me where the radiator was leaking and said I would need a new one plus hoses and thermostat. I agreed, but when everything was installed and I was about 0.5 miles from home, the car was overheating again and smoking badly from the tailpipe. I immediately called Wayne, the store manager. The new radiator had less than 4 total miles on it and I could see any fluid. He came to my home and added fluid with the engine running and It splashed out all over the engine. He said air in the system caused the splashing and overheating, but the car should be ok to drive. OK, I believed him, but was reluctant to drive it any further. I did make a short trip for groceries the next day Again, the car was smoking badly. This time I had AAA tow it immediately back to their shop. Wayne informed me that the engine was shot and it would cost $2500 to replace. He also mentioned the engine had "passed the block test". So, this confirmed to me the engine was fine before any work was started. At no time did anyone at AAA explain or inform me that replacing the radiator would put the engine at risk. Bottom line is I spent over $600 to ruin my engine and the best Wayne could do was offer me a $200 credit. Seriously?? So, if you are searching for that incompetent, careless, and irresponsible car shop, head over to 6014 Glenwood Ave. I'm done. read more

I had been here for an oil change, which was straightforward enough, no mention of any other issues. The next day I went to a local Honda dealer for the airbag recall work. The Honda dealer implied that I'd better get my transmission and brake fluid changed sooner rather than later! I checked my receipts and I'd had the brake and transmission fluid changed less than a year ago at another Honda dealer. i started worrying if the service had actually been done. I went back to AAA on Glenwood and Nate was kind enough to check these fluids, which were, for course, OK. He was really nice to show me how the fluid looked. read more

I recently had my car repaired at this location work was done well. However they charge one hour of labor to diagnose the problem $110.00 per hour they called and required an additional hour for diagnosis another $110.00. The called and advised the problem was a bad computer. The part cost $377.00 I found most part shops sell the part for around $250.00. They charged almost another hour to install the part.. Total bill over $700.00. I won't go back shop around ... Way to expensive. read more

Very poor service. Did not even complete tire rotation because tires were "too tight". They were the last ones to rotate my tires also.

Another avoid, these guys charge double retail for parts and will tell you things need to be replaced which do not. They are all about padding the bill through up selling and replacing parts. They told told me brake calipers and hoses need replacing, and they were fine. Hold onto your wallet, don't go to this place. read more

I had a 10:00 appt., got there on time and told it would be an hour. I have never been there when they didn't try to sell you something that was not necessary. What they do try to sell you is much more than it should be. For example a serpentine belt cost about 35 dollars and take about 15 minutes to install. AAA want to charge approx. $120.00. I have experienced local repair shops/chains, and dealer repair shops and still had the same issue which required additional costs to have the issue resolved. AAA was able to resolve issues others failed to. In some instances repairs were done while I waited and worked on provided computer, and at other times they provided shuttle servicei when requested. It is refreshing to find a component auto repair center that is dedicated to true customer care, where it is one flat rate to diagnose the most intricate problem....no matter how long it takes, and then pay a reasonable price for the repair itself...they also stand behind their work...AAA Auto Center on Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, their staff AND manager are top notch.., great customer care, great auto service, courteous people. I had the best experience at AAA repair on Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. I popped in to see if the location could replace a headlight bulb in my Mercedes. They did not try to upsell me and it was MUCH cheaper than taking it to a dealer. They also completed the work right there on the spot. I was in and out in 10 mins. read more

I have never written a review before and see why I should always write good and bad reviews in the future. I definitely know that I need to read all reviews from now on as well. I had my SUV towed in to the AAA Car Care Center on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh and the quoted price shocked me, so I was in a bind and need it fixed ASAP and told them to work on it, even though I was pretty sure that I had paid just a hair more than half that price for a fuel pump on another work truck in the past couple of years (fuel pump should have been around $600 total (parts and labor) and they charged almost $1,200). I had to ask a friend who is a ex-mechanic for verification and, after checking the parts pricing and book labor, he told me what would be a good profitable price for the parts and service and it looks like these guys are blatantly gouging, and doing it without a care in the world that the customer at the counter will ever come back. They took off the diagnostic fee, which shouldn't be charged if someone gets the work done with them in the first place, but it appears gouging is par for the course there. My company is small and we are growing and now I know not to come there for many reasons. I have never wasted time writing a review like this or blasting a company on social media, but you better believe that is what I am going to do for my free time the next few days. I have to let people know that if they have AAA towing then they should never get overcharged at any AAA auto care shop (unless this Glenwood shop is the only one treating customers this way). Everyone should get rid of AAA membership and pay the extra money for a tow out of pocket and save a lot with the service and parts from a trustworthy mechanic. Thanks for nothing but upsetting an old client. They should pay extra bonuses to their employees for overcharging people to their face, or is that already company policy? So, for now, and over the next few days, I am going to write my first reviews and let everyone I know, (in Raleigh especially) aware of what kind of company you guys are running. The many times I have been there I have seen a lot of elderly people and want to let as many retirement homes that I can reach know about them (and I only say that because I know there are a lot in the area of this "service center" , a.k.a. screw us center). I just wish I had never spent so much money there over the past few years. One would think I would be considered a good customer instead of the kind of customer to be making extra money on one job. I hope they make enough on that service and my future business isn't necessary. The manager (Anthony) didn't care to make it right, nor did Glenn seem to care. So, speaking to management doesn't matter if there are issues. After reading the other reviews, I now question whether they ever took care of me in the past or if they have lied every time I've been there. They do quick work (Hmmm, "quick work" brings up many more questions), which is why i used them, but now I read and know that this is because other customers, with appointments, have to wait for the customers that are being overcharged. The Better Business Bureau is only a few hundred feet away from the shop and should take note of all of the bad reviews. I should add that after reading some of the bad reviews (there are too many to read them all) that I am not sure if they have ever diagnosed my vehicle right and just charged for unnecessary services when they couldn't figure out the problem or the problem just didn't make them a lot of money. read more

The few turned into 45 and I went to service desk to ask how much longer, he told me should be about 20 minutes before they could get me in. Stay away, they will rip you off. My car had no problems other than a bad belt pulley. They created problems and made it sound as if the car is ready to fall apart. I took it to a different shop and was told that my car has no problems and it only needs a new belt pulley at a cost of 50% less!!!! read more

DO NOT use them. I have been a AAA member for over 15 years and thought how great to have a "reputable" auto care center in Raleigh. I took our 2003 Civic for the 100,000 mile service and front brake/rotor replacement. I picked up the car, went less than 5 miles when the temperature gauge shot past "HOT" and the car started sputtering. I managed to pull of off the road and the engine cut out. I was told by the AAA Auto Care they would have someone pick me up immediately and the tow truck would be an hour. Well no one came to pick me up so I got a ride back with the tow truck driver an hour later. The tow truck driver told me there was no coolant, so they basically drained everything but didn't replace. They tried to pass it off as an air bubble but I watched them put close to a gallon of fluid in. I guess because I was a female they thought I was stupid. When I left the second time I noticed a clicking by the gear shift assembly when I tapped the brakes. I took it back the next morning. They tried to tell me it was probably there all the time I just couldn't hear it and that all Hondas have this. Again, I am not stupid, we currently have 2 other Honda vehicles and have had many over the past 15 year and guess what - none of them do this. I call the Honda dealer and described what was going on and they told me this was NOT normal. After much arguing back and forth AAA Auto Care agreed to pay for Honda to look at the car and correct the problem as well as look over their work to make sure no other damage was caused by the overheating. The lack of true customer service, the condescending attitude and refusal to admit a mistake was made it probably the part the makes me the angriest. I did not renew my AAA membership (member for 6 years) because of the poor service I had here. I went in for a simple oil change and tire rotation and they managed to screw it up. The technician started the car with the oil cap off and sprayed engine oil all over the inside of the hood and the windshield. He only half cleaned it up and when I drove off, and used my windshield wipers to clean what I thought were brown mud spots on my glass, I actually smeared oil all over the windshield. I was only offered a free oil change to "win back my business" - like I would have trusted them to touch my car again. A few days later, I noticed that the technician also cracked two of my wheel covers while taking them off to rotate my tires. This place is a disaster. What a disappointment - I expected way more from a AAA business. read more
