Was a no pressure deal and gave me a great deal without all the back and forth hassle you get at other dealerships! My entire family has used Van Bortel and Subaru for years. 3 generations of happy Subaru owners! I chose the 2026 Ascent Onyx Touring for its towing capabilities as I was coming from an F-150. It tows my Bayliner with ease and I hardly notice a difference! I would also like to add that the service department is also incredible. I had faulty trailer brakes on my trailer and one of the technicians Tom went above and beyond to help me diagnose the issue and gave me recommendations on how to fix it even though they don't normally work on trailers he still pointed me in the right direction. But scheduling service is very difficult. I can't say enough about how great the car-buying experience, in every way. They work with you to get the car that fits your needs (I got one of the last manual transmission Crosstreks!) They're available to help with the process of changing registration and all the other items to get the new car established. They offer follow up with any questions, including about warranty. They carefully explain warranty options. This is my first subaru : compared to Toyota - Subaru's people and work on doing maintenance and repairs is just as good and the waiting area is almost as good as Toyota. Scheduling service, though, is another story -- much worse than Bob Johnson Toyota. At Toyota I could easily schedule a time to come in. My first February after I purchased my car I tried to set an appointment up at Subaru *a month in advance* at a time when I'd have work to do while I waited and all they had was early morning and evening appointments. When I called about this difficulty I was told I should just do drive-up service and I'm going to try that.I used that rather than an appointment only had to wait less than two hours for an oil change, so that was fine -- I could come in when I had work to do or the day was not very nice. The people were very helpful getting me a maintenance book for the used vehicle I bought But the second time I tried to use the drop-in service (for an inspection and oil change in August), I arrived shortly after 1PM and was told they were willing to fit me in, but that the wait would be perhaps til 8PM close; they said they were telling others they should come back the next day. I checked Subaru's online appointment system and the first appointments available from the time I write this review are 29 days from now -- and those appointments are very limited (early morning evening.) About 34 days from now there are appointments available. In my many years with Toyota, calling a week in advance was enough to get an appointment. This shows that the problem I experienced in February -- not being able to get an appointment within about a month -- is the same in August. In retrospect, I think, Subaru doesn't accommodate those who want to wait on a repair very well. My wife has had a Subaru and I found it hard to schedule repairs. Subaru a shuttle and $10 car rental on offer. They're much better set up for people who want to drop their car off rather than wait. Subaru's difficulty scheduling is probably because of how successful Subaru sales is. Kitty Van Bortel has built a great company with committed people who work at Van Bortel. I don't know how Subaru could solve this problem. On this August day I tried to get a drop-in oil change and inspection, I was told about the 150 vehicles they were trying to get through. And they were personable - gave me a card and said I could try to call in advance and personally helped back me out of the crowded entry to service. I have had one maintenance done with Subaru and was welcomed warmly, the staff was great, and the service was quick. But scheduling service is tough. (I'm also no fan of online-only setting up appointments to have work done).

When I arrived, the receptionist quickly reviewed the info with me, took a look at the car, then gave me a useful overview of what to expect from the process including tips like: Don't forget to snag your EZPass, garage door opener and phone charger! She helped me through the rental car process and made it easy to return the rental by simply leaving the keys at the desk when I came to pickup my repaired vehicle. I received regular notifications throughout the process, starting with a projected completion date, then regular updates as the parts came in and services were completed. (The work was done with impressive finesse, and the completion date was so early that I saved hundreds when returning my rental car early.) There were some really nice finishing touches along the way too, like answering all my questions and concerns when picking up the vehicle (zomg, went a long way in easing the anxiety experienced around losing my vehicle for a time after the crash), printing a second copy of the bill so I could stick one in my records and send the other along with the certification required by insurance, and exceptional after-care in answering questions that I had a few days after completion. I was surprised because I have brought them previously a car and sent them a lot of work over the years. So let me tell you about the LONG HAUL on your vehicle if you bring it here to Vogels. I would know about long term on a vehicle from them because they did a Job for me in 2015 on my 97 Camaro. This place is decent place to bring your vehicle if you need something fix short term but long term not worth it to ME. To others they are worth it but they don't restore cars really just fix them. I brought these guys my 97 Camaro back in 2015. Let me tell you what it WASN'T worth the price they charged me 6500-7k and or it felt like I was getting harassed by the owner about paying them. Normally you pay for a job when it's finished but he was eager to collect some before starting it and during before he finished the Camaro. I had to pay before they finished which felt like I was being scammed but I was in a tight pinch and had to get it done. After finally paying them in full they finished it up and said we will detail it up nice for you but the rushed they detail guy and I had wax all over the Camaro. Even the detail guy complained about being rushed. I even mentioned the green paint I could still see but they didn't fix it or nothing. I was super bummed about this but I was still happy to get my 97 Camaro back on the road and drive it. Mind you this 97 Camaro sat after it got "restored"from Vogels. Nothing wrong with it but all the imperfections they left, all the chipped and cracked paint I found and the green paint from the donor parts they used to fix it that you could still see in areas. The Camaro wasn't very professional done at all and the service I got from them especially from the owner himself was good and all till the demanded payment. Then it felt like a scam and it felt like I was being harassed. Now 10 years later I have to repay someone to fix all those paint chips, all the cracked panels and a lot more. So in my opinion it's not worth it because 10 years later and 6500 bucks wasted to repay another person. About the same or more to make it look brand new even better then show room quality they said just like Vogel's promised me but Vogels couldn't handle it. Edit : So after I posted this because I got a phone call at 11:17 from there Shop manager or whatever he is there. His name was Eric. He called me asked me why I would leave a negative review because they refused to take a quote from me earlier today? Then proceeded to say I called them because I had an insurance quote done and I wanted them to add more on? WTF? How is that possible when my accident just happen at 9:33 am. So how did I have time to get a quote and call you to ask you to change that quote? So now I'm more annoyed because they tried to call me out on something I didn't even say. All I said was "can I get an estimate done today for an insurance quote". He then proceeded to tell me IDK why you're posting your Camaro now. It's been 10 years and we didn't harass you. He said "we have to get some up front or all especially when it's not an insurance quote because we gotta pay outta packet for materials"? Really? You have to pay for materials? Wow that's crazy. What about regular mechanics or other shops? They don't ask up front for any money. However I was fine putting a down payment down back then. It was the owner calling me demanding money from me time and time again multiple times and said he couldn't fix it till I did. That sounds like harassment to me. Their excuse was "well sometimes people have us fix it but then not come back at all after we finish". I said "not my fault don't judge a book by its cover. You guys are judging people and will only work on cars with insurance claims unless they are GUARANTEED the money before they finish the vehicle". 1
