AAA Dallas Insurance and Member Services Today I had to do something very important and it was at AAA Dallas. I needed to get an "International Driver's Permit". First I didn't even know a place like this existed to provide this type of service. I found their information online and I was able to watch a YouTube video of someone talking about their service. My big thanks goes to my on site staff person "Mary". She basically walked me through the process. It was very simple, very easy and the cost was very reasonable. You can take the pictures needed on site. I would definitely call ahead just to make sure everything is operational and good to go. This type of place turns out to be a blessing to a lot of people. I awaited three experiences before I wrote this one. First experience, I had just renewed my membership the day before. My car had died on a weekend -no shops open for tow. I paid my membership online. Here's what the website covered. A $125 non-refundable service fee is applied each time you use Roadside Assistance for the first three days of your new membership. There is also a 48-hour wait period after payment is received for new and upgraded memberships. However, there is a $75 fee to waive the waiting period and get immediate assistance. Safety situations may also have the waiting period waived. Here's what wasn't covered. Even if you get the AAA Premium Membership (of which includes up to 200 miles of free towing / once per year - the other 3 tows are limited to 100 miles) it won't take into affect until after the first week. So, I paid for membership the day before. The next day, when I ordered a tow, I had to pay towing fees as well. Be sure and request a flat bed towing truck. Same cost. Less damage to your car. While arranging for the tow, Aaa's associate informed that I would be able to rent a car for $25.99/ day if ordered thru AAA within the next 48 hours. Upon arrival, tow driver was flexible and easy to work with. No water was offered. However, driver was able to provide me a lift to the repair shop as well. Unless you have a toll tag, be sure and communicate to the tow driver to avoid toll highways. Once my car was dropped off at the shop, I called AAA back to make rental car arrangements. The associate said the cost would be $30-60 /daily. That's a big jump. Also, it had been maybe an hour since the last quote. What? What?! Anywho, I wound up not needing a rental car. Cut to second experience. Battery died. Tech was requested. Tech lectured me on how batteries from AutoZone are "just rushed to get off the lot." No water offered. Tech provided jump. I had a new battery installed (by different vendor). Third experience: my car battery died again. I used both the phone service, app and texting hotline to request service /help the tech pinpoint my exact location. Tech (Omar) called twice to help pinpoint my location. He offered water. We identify that the last one to install the positive battery terminal left it loose. It had opened effecting the circuitry. You assume the risks like this when having service provided outside of your car dealership (but still!) Tech gave my car a jump, tested the battery, accelerator, etc. Battery was good. Tech tightened the terminal. I elected to have my battery swapped out for a new one as any air/water exposure to your battery presents a risk. Back to Aaa, in short, multiple forms of communication will be needed- ie save your local state number to your phone and download the AAA app. Keep your phone charged and a spare charger charged and ready to go, if need be. Know your membership top to bottom. Ordering a new battery thru AAA may cost less comparatively but with less of a warranty - ie only 1 year. Always save your battery receipts -to have at the ready. Typically, a battery's expiration sticker is located on the side: be careful when dealing with items under the hood due to hot temperatures. I was advised to get AAA membership after 5+ years with my car. I advise the same. By the quickest I know when it comes to changing a tire. Hopefully, you will never have to use your membership. AAA hit me with $1,250 in deductibles across two separate accidents. One of them was not even my fault. Instead of handling each claim fairly, they said the second accident had "overlapping damage" and added another $500 on top of the $500 they already took from the first. Then they added another $250 because the other driver did not have insurance. To make it worse, they claimed I "benefited" from the first claim and tried to use that as a reason to take money back and apply it to the second. This is nothing but double dipping to protect their bottom line and squeeze more money out of me. I have filed a formal complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance. The complaint ID is 425529. Be careful. AAA is great at collecting your premiums but ruthless when it is time to pay a claim. read more

Went here to get passport pictures. They offer a lot of services to members that I either forgot or did not know, for instance notary. But my goodness, they are so slow. There was one person at the front helping people who made frozen molasses look fast. There were 5-6 other people at their desks staring at their computer screen, not helping anyone and not really doing anything. If you have some time you can get some useful things done here, but if you are in a hurry, forget about it. read more

Went there to get some paper work notarized, the paper was both written in Arabic and English and I did have the certificate of authentication for the translated Arabic copy. First they refused to notarize the Arabic one without providing any legitimate reason, and only wanted to notarize the English version. Then they said no we can't notarize this one either, because the second page had lot of space and they believe it could be used to edit the form once notarized, I explained to them that the reason for that space, is because these forms needs to get notarized 4 different times. And I even offered to show them the proof for the statements that I'm making and yet they still refused to notarize it and asked me to go to a professional notary public!!!!! I could understand if they have an actual reason to why they don't want to notarize my documents but they didn't have any valid reasons at all. The person that helped was actually the branch manager and her name is Erica I pay my membership fees so when i need those services I can actually have it and not be treated like trash, and have everyone in the office laughing at me as if I'm cracking jokes or asking for the impossible I'm definitely not going back to this location again and I'll make sure their corporate office hears about it as well. read more

I'm very disappointed with AAA's business practices for their insurance coverage. I just received a statement in the mail with a surprise amount of $454 due in a cpl days. The backstory is, when it came close to time to renew my policy they didn't charge the current month that was due and instead charged me the newly lowered amount that was going to become my monthly amount in the coming month or two, making me think that was all that was due and that my bill was current as reflected by the AAA app where I pay my bill. I called and ask why this big amount due instead of the $166 that was due the previous month. They give this mumbo jumbo explanation of how my September bill wasn't paid, making it sound like it was something not done on my part. The whole time what the rep is actually explaining, which I had to decipher is that, they previously charged me the renewal amount and temporarily foregoed my previous current month due back around September, simply to entice me to renew. Then came back two months later to charge me the missed payment of September, all the while combining that with my upcoming current amount due, and ALSO BTW 15% of the total policy due which is $2237.75. Never informed me of any of this. If that isn't some crooked capitalism bs I don't know what is. This is a clear cut example of bait and switch. And then the reps you speak to on the phones know it's wrong and despite it, actually try to defend this crap. And use a ridiculous script of I understand your concern. This is the kind of crap I expect from smaller disreputable companies. Not a company with the "goodly, customer friendly" image of AAA. DAM read more

Every time you call here they just hang up on you! Do not come to this location. The old, extra-large woman named Karen that works here harassed me in the parking lot and was very rude and rolled her eyes, and verbally assaulted me, then was yelling at me and saying rude things to me. I guess this is how AAA likes to treat their customers and other people, they apparently allow this as well since her manager just stood there and let her do this. We called AAA for car & home insurance. They would not cover our house but would cover our cars. I was in a hit & run accident, and they would not cover the damages because I did not have full coverage on my car, which makes no sense because I was hit from behind (not my fault). I hired an attorney and was told "your policy has a specific regulation that they don't pay out the UIM/UM even in these cases (which some other policies do)." What the HECK, what am I paying these people for??? Now I have a totaled car and have to pay for it. This is why people pay for UM/UIM (Uninsured/under-insured motorist). I have visited this branch a couple times. Service was slow and customer service was lacking. I've called a couple times for services...I felt like they were rushing me off the phone. Each time neither Agent did what they said they would do and I ended up having to contact multiple times to get things right. Pro Tip: Call the 1-800 number for AAA instead of visiting this location. Denise and Cynthia helped me with a few trip tix. They were so quick and helpful. It's not really a "hi, welcome" kind of place but they provide excellent customer service. They greeted me as soon as I walked up to the counter though. So, don't get to bummed if they don't greet you when you walk through the door. Went to this location to get an International Drivers license. While they did have a sign outside saying they were out I went inside to find another location. I stood there for several minutes and no one even acknowledge my existence. Several people were walking around and 1 person was working with someone at the front table. When she finished she still did not ask me if I needed any help. I had to ask if there was a sign up sheet to get help. She then said she could help me. When I asked for the address of another locations she started reading off an address instead of writing it down for me. There is a AAA agent who works here by the name of Grayson and he was so incredibly rude and impatient with me. I HAVE BEEN BEEN A AAA MEMBER (AUTO AND RENTERS) and yet several of the "agents" at this location were unbelievably rude. I couldn't believe it. I always write nice comments when I notice exceptional customer service. On the other hand, when I am mistreated, I speak up as well. Absolute worst customer service. They answered the phone just enough to get the first payment but if you need anything after, don't bother. They have caller ID and won't pick up. They also don't return emails. I have both times had to end up just calling the 800 line to get any service. I spent years with USAA, who is top notch on customer service. The only reason I left is the high premium I was paying for my teen. AAA has them beat on the rate but that's about it. I have several times considered just paying the higher price to feel confident I will be taken care of should something happen. I can't even imagine dealing with these people if we had an accident! I have called AAA for insurance for both my car and home when I have lived in Los Angeles and now that I am in Dallas. They advertise cheap rates and claim that you can save considerable money over other companies. That may be somewhat true on car insurance but definitely not for homeowners insurance. They tend to cherry pick only the best risks and redline areas or homes that they arbitrarily decide are too risky. Case in point. In Los Angeles, they gave me a average rate for car insurance but declined to insure my home because being in the Hollywood Hills, I was in a brush area. Besides, I had a diving board on my pool and that is a no no! When I moved to Dallas, they gave me a great rate on my car but because my house was built in 1942, they wanted a complete inspection by a certified contractor before they would insure it. I asked them to give me a quote as though I had gotten the inspection, and they quoted me a rate a good $1000 more than my current company. My advice is if you have a new house, without a pool, in a flat area, and never have any tickets, consider them. Otherwise it is a waste of time. read more

Went to this location to get some important documents notarized and repurchase my AAA membership. While they do this service the notary refused to allow me to forward the two documents from my attorney via email from my iPhone to her to print out and notarize. Even though I have sent many emails for travel itinerary information which they have had no problems printing and referring to regarding on other business transactions with them, she refused. I told her I took the train all the way from downtown just to do this with her and she rudely looked at me like, "So what?". She said I could go to Fedex (which also does notary services) several miles away and not on public transportation, print my papers there, come back and then she would do it. I was stunned not only at her and her "I can't be bothered with you" attitude and complete lack of customer service or customer care, but at the fact she wouldn't print the documents for me. She cost me a great deal of time and money for nothing. I will never do business with this branch for anything because of this one awful, uncaring employee who is clueless about customer service and customer care. read more
