Of all the Post Exchanges I have been to, the one in Fort Lewis is the best by far. Fort Sill, Fort Sam Houston, Fort Knox, and Fort Lee all have their own takes on the Big PX, but Fort Lewis just curb stomps them all and utterly destroys the competition. I would give second place to Fort Sam Houston, but even that place has a far inferior PX to Fort Lewis. This Post Exchange is spacious, clean, and has everything within reason that you would need while living at JBLM. Whatever they have, you can rest assured that they also probably have large quantities of it and won't run out any time soon. I took a moment to browse their electronics section and it's on par with what civilian electronics stores have to offer. Everything like clothing, cosmetics, snacks, appliances, etc. are available here for you to purchase without the addition of sales tax. If you tend to spend a lot of money, this may be a welcome feature for you. I just love how there's a military version of Target on base. Not that you can't go to the Target in Lakewood, but the PX is in a central location in JBLM and is one of the coolest things about the whole place.

*For the hair salon* Went in on a Sunday morning. Can't remember the stylists name? Molly maybe? She cut my hair great. I kept telling her shorter but she insisted on longer. I still wanted it a bit shorter but what ever. What I don't get is how badly she styled it with mousse and hairspray and more mousse and more hair spray. What she did is to the picture on the right. I went home to style and couldn't even run my fingers through my hair. I told her how I don't use much product in my hair ever too. And on the right is what I did what I got home. I don't understand how horribly a cosmetologist could style a clients hair like that. It didn't accentuate the cut at all.

This AAFES location has a main store, food court, optical center, florist, and various kiosks. The main store is set up like a department store, so there's a little bit of everything. The electronics department usually stocks the latest cds and dvds, although the selection is somewhat limited compared to Best Buy or Walmart. When shopping recently for laptops, I was a little disappointed with the selection. There weren't a lot of models to choose from, so I wasn't able to find what I was looking for without going elsewhere. I like that the main store carries a lot of brand name clothing such as Under Armour, Billabong, Quiksilver, North Face, and Columbia plus the fragrance department carries Chanel, Clinique, and Estee Lauder among many others. The perk to shopping at the Exchange is there is no sales tax! The food court has various eateries to choose from: Robin Hood, Anthony's Pizza, Taco John's, Cinnabon, Charley's Grilled Subs, and Manchu Wok. There is also a sushi place and a grill outside the main entrance. The food court is a great place to grab a quick bite while shopping or on your lunch break, but it gets really busy during the weekday lunch rush. Plan accordingly! Like all AAFES locations, a valid military ID is required to shop at the main store but not at the food court or other concessions.

HELP SAVE GOOD JOBS AT JBLM! The barbers who serve many of the men and women of the Armed Services at JBLM once made a decent wage and benefits, which they fought for and received over the years. Now Sammi Ko, the new vendors owner for the barbers shops, wants to cut the barbers' income by lowering the commission percentage they receive for every haircut! All while Sammi Ko cries of poverty, he is spending money to equip and buy products for many other barbershops here and across the nation. Yes, this store may be quite sizable, but it is still just the Shoppette of the northern portion of Fort Lewis. Don't get the two mixed up, as the two are on completely different sides of the base. With that said, this is by far the biggest Shoppette I have ever seen, and it even has a food court to go along with it to make it feel almost like a PX of its own. It's basically a large convenience store somewhat resembling a 7-Eleven and carrying all your basic essential items plus some more stuff. The playing cards that they still carry here really caught my attention. You know, for games like the Pokemon TCG and Magic: The Gathering. They sell those cards here, and there's probably a community of people who play these games at The Warrior Zone which is not too far from this building. I came here to shop for some more practical supplies like water, juice, soap, a shaving razor, and four rolls of toilet paper. I was here for a three-day battle assembly and these were the items that I was lacking for that weekend. Prices are reasonable and thankfully do not include tax. Plus, they're open 24 hours a day!

Change is hard for me let alone my son as we are both Autistic but we try the best we can. The other thing is that they have Caroline carts here which is excellent for people with all kinds of disabilities. I honestly do appreciate the sharriff being here not so much for the they prevention but because they actually have been good to both me as well as my son. One of the deputies we see who wears a cowboy hat has always been very kind and understanding so I have taken it upon myself to say hi and have my son see him too. What I don't like is the poor conditions of the restrooms. They are outdated, poorly maintained. The fact that things that are locked up that shouldn't be and the things that should be aren't. There is also a cashier that we have dealt with a couple times has been very rude to us and apparently other stores and it has made us decide to go to a closer store that the wife does not like going to just because of this one cashier (I guess she was wearing a pink bandana but my wife doesn't know her name).

The store is massive, so a "quick stop" turns into a full cardio session just to find a single item on the opposite end of the building. The parking lot is always a complete disaster, no matter the time of day, and once you finally make it inside you'll notice they're perpetually understaffed. Checkout lines are painfully long, self-checkout is chaos, and somehow there's never enough open registers. I also wouldn't touch their meat or produce with a ten-foot pole. It's the textbook example of a massive corporation that prioritizes the bottom line over quality, efficiency, or customer experience. Convenient by name only. If you value your time or sanity, shop elsewhere unless absolutely necessary.

Well, I'll be honest... Nordstrom and their clothing for men doesn't exactly hit the mark for me. I…read moremean it almost does but not quite as far as men's clothes go. I am most certainly a clothes horse and have a variety of styles from punk, goth, retro kitsch, rock star look, brewery shirts to even a skater types of clothes. I even have stuff that doesn't fit into any of that and I just had a weakness for it at the time. One would think I'd succumb to many shopping sprees for clothes frequently with not much of a stringent process on what to buy but having a large wardrobe has actually made me very picky about what I buy... depending on the store of course. Being a mall walker especially during the winter months sends me through Nordstrom's at the Tacoma Mall quite often and my eye often wonders as I pass through the men's section but so far I'm still a tough sale. I have purchased items from here in the past but it is infrequent and what I purchased was from their underwear section for men. I have bought a few briefs here that are very well made and have fun patterns to them that I have been pleased with. A lot more interesting than the Hanes tightie whities. This is a part of my particular and stringent process with clothing as to have good underwear. But the selection here changes as one would expect and while finding a couple magnificent briefs here my last walk through in this section had mainly boxers and boxer briefs which isn't exactly my preference. And that was about all they had was this type so I didn't pursue browsing any further. Another Yelper wrote a review that item selection at this Nordstrom's isn't as good as some of their other locations and while I cannot confirm this it wouldn't be surprising as many of the retail stores in the general area I live in are considered smaller model stores which also means less of a selection. One thing I love with this location and maybe each location has a different look but around Christmas time they put up beautiful decoration displays and I always got to take some pictures to enjoy and post to Instagram. This past holiday season they had a great big and impressive menorah as well. There is a coffee shop near the mall entrance that is I believe a part of Nordstrom's. They have their own Yelp entry but unfortunately I am not too impressed with their pastries or coffee but that is a whole other layer of pickiness aside from the clothing shopper in me.
