I like this mall and have been coming here for years. When I was little, I often stopped at Build a Bear Workshop! So glad they have a Lush Cosmetics store here - this makes a trip to the mall worth it for me. I also like See's Candies, Old Navy, Box Lunch, and sometimes dining at Kizuki Ramen which is conveniently in the mall itself. I think the selection of shops are pretty good. The parking lots at times can get hectic, but it usually doesn't take overly long to get one. It can also get pretty hot inside the mall, as if the air isn't circulating well. Combining that with all the crowds doesn't help. read more

This is an old time favorite place to shop. I have seen go through so many changes and now it changing once again. The expanding of shops and restaurants to give customers options! It is nice that there are shops and restaurants kind of situated outside the mall. The Tacoma Mall in this era is super loud and definitely need sound proof headsets to keep adults and children from a sensory overload . My husband loves to shop for Jordans at this Mall. I ordered 3 Medium Rare Ribeye steaks through Uber Eats. I've come to the conclusion through experience that Cooks in Washington just don't grasp the concept of Medium Rare Steak, because what I got, like always when I order a medium rare steak on this side of the country, was, of course, 3 rare steaks. BJ's hardly seasoned the steaks, yet barely with some black Pepper, and virtually no salt. I really couldn't taste any salt. These were most definitely the blandest steaks I've ever had. You guys need to up your game. No garnish with the steak and mashed potatoes... The mashed potatoes were a semi-solid lump with zero butter or sour cream, and zero gravy. I generally don't like malls. Add Tacoma mall to the list. The mall is showing its age which adds to the depressing feeling that one feels when there. This was during the Christmas shopping season, and there hardly anyone there. There was no festive atmosphere or feeling. Many of the stores were empty and many of the usual stores were gone. Tacoma Mall is conveniently located 20 minutes from my house, so I usually stop there to have my cell phone screen protector replaced at the booth in the center of the mall. I also check out Nordstrom's, look for deals on shoes and clothes, and visit the Vans store. Over the years, there have been many changes, especially in the food court. Some vendors remain, but there's been a lot of switching and movement, like Starbucks and others. There have been many new vendors coming and going over the years. However, the mall seems to be a bit safer than before. In recent years, security at spots like Dick's Sporting Goods has been visible, which I assume attracts the most theft in the mall. The mall is centrally located, with a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, a new Dave's Hot Chicken restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings, and a Nordstrom Rack nearby. Overall, I enjoy shopping here, but I especially value the social aspect. read more

Usually it's a hassle to go to the mall on the weekend because of the parking situation, but we had just finished dim sum and so we got to the mall early enough for parking not to be a problem at all. Usually we just head into Jollibee and grab our chicken, but Sis has been into aromas lately, so she wanted to go to Lush. Then we hit up Victoria Secret and Bath and Bodyworks to try more scents and although that's not my thing, it was fun to see the Halloween stuff out already (usually it would upset me that they won't give us a moment to finish the season becasue it's still the beginning of August, but I'm a sucker for the fall). I enjoyed myself by buying a lottery ticket in the big gigantic stand at that side of the mall, buying some candy at See's, and browsing the newest Macbook products at Apple. Usually I abhor shopping, but this trip was enjoyable, since everything we wanted to check outwas tucked away on that side ofthe mall. It was a nice surprise. read more

I will be 70 years old next month. For over 30 years at Christmas time I grow a good white beard, wear a long sleeve shirt that looks like a Santa Clause coat, black sweat pants, boots, and a Santa Clause hat. Just for the Tacoma Mall. Dressed as stated I walk and carry a basket of wrapped mini Peppermint Candy Canes inside the mall and offer them to children, their parents, store employees and other people in the mall, including mall cops. Today I was informed by a mall cop inside the mall that I cannot do this because management say so. I went the the management office but they are closed on the weekends. I do this twice a week between Thanksgiving and Christmas one day during the week and one day on the weekend. I always have positive responses from everybody and it puts a smile on children's and adult's faces. This is the season for giving. What is the problem here and why can I not do this. I also pick out one boy and one girl from the Salvation Army's giving tree every year inside the mall and get them several gifts from their lists. Let me tell you also a few things about myself. I am a Vietnam War era veteran and have been clean and sober for over 40 years and no criminal record. I am also a mall walker during the rainy and cold months. I am just trying to pass along some holiday cheer for the holiday mall shoppers. This is a very clean indoor shopping mall with major anchors such as Nordstroms, Macy's, and JC Penney's. Security has a presence inside and outside the facility. I was impressed with the cleanilness of the hallways and public bathrooms. The food court is decent and there are major restaurants connected to the mall and on the outskirts if you want a formal experience that just fast food. read more

I had some time to burn in the area and decided to go see what the mall currently looks like. This mall is one of the larger malls that's been here for decades and was basically a staple back when people still shopped in person. From a current standpoint, I'd say that this is one of the better malls I've been to recently in terms of selection. Most of the storefronts are up and running and there's a very nice selection of shops. Food court is super small, but they have several sit-down restaurants on the property. No complaints during my daytime trip. You'd never catch me here at night though. This area as a whole is very unsavory and has been for years. read more

It's a mall, pretty average, better than capital by far but not as good as south hill IMO it's crazy they don't have a theater in the mall itself and the AMC nearby is falling apart. I am excited to try the ramen shop though. I want to caution people about the expensive creme and body care shop on the left of Macy's, just before the apple store. The lady has a wonderful accent and really sells you on the creme bringing out the toxins in your skin. The mood lighting really sells it. But at 200 dollars a bottle, that is insane, when my wife got out into natural light she couldn't notice a different between the hand they lotioned and the one they didn't. Later on she got itchy and red on her hand too so just be careful. read more

If you need to shop for a lot of things at once, Tacoma Mall fits your bill, however, we never feel safe there as way too many homeless, security stopping folks (while that may feel reassuring it tells us there's an issue) and often times we encounter truly rude folks...for us anymore, we'll shop from home or from local businesses! Sorry Tacoma, we used to love to shop there!!! Trust me, it's not all doom and gloom as we appreciate the scores of parking, great restaurants like the Cheesecake Factory and Panera and who can't resist Krispy Kreme donuts????? So this is a tale of two malls. This one is the first and third visit. I came here and it was interesting. It was not so big, which I found out on my second visit. There is a main store with stores around it. The other one had the seats spaced at regular intervals throughout the store. The second visit was to Westgate Mall and it really put this mall to shame. This reminds me of a dying mall - empty storefronts, a lot of kiosks in the center of the hall, and very few people in attendance, even though it was Spring Break. It's not a bad mall at all, but it reminded me of the mall by me, which finally closed with a bunch of unattended kiosks and random shops. It was sad, but that is what I thought of the moment that I saw them. The security kiosk was unattended, there were stores where things were out for display, so to speak, but no one was watching or minding the store. It's a better mall than my local one was, but going to Westgate, I saw a proper mall in action. It's fine if you want to go to a store that's open and they may have a decent food area (the court was horrible), but the restaurants were fine. I'd come here if in the area, but I doubt that would happen. But if I had to come here again, it wouldn't bother me. read more

Tacoma mall is under construction so some parking isn't available but the stores/restaurants are still open. I used to live in apartments across from the mall for several years and im so happy to see new restaurants opening up! I'm just sad that I don't live there anymore to eat at happy hour and walk home. The mall has security patrolling the lots so that helps me feel safer about walking to my car alone especially since it gets dark around 4pm now :( I heard that there will be a movie theater and im excited about the new shops and food that ill be able to buy soon..hopefully. I wish they had more seating throughout the mall and maybe more feature walls to take pics and draw people in like Bellevue Mall. All in all a decent mall :) read more

They do not have electric wheelchairs. Only manual one so my hands hurt from pushing roommate around mail. We went to food court and asked for some Chinese food (daily special) $10.00. Someone 2 off those came to 31.00? I won't be back as no electric wheelchairs. read more

Visited the Tacoma Mall for the first time today and I was really impressed. First off, they had lots of extra security cameras set up in the parking lots for the holiday rush. I felt really safe leaving my car out there! Second, they had plenty of security staff inside, so even though there were a lot of sketchy-looking people, I didn't feel nervous. Third, their bathrooms were spotless and well stocked with paper products. The variety of stores was perfect. They had all my favorites: H&M, Hot Topic, Fuego, Box Lunch, Old Navy, Bath and Body Works, and more. OH and they had an alternative to Game Stop, which I really enjoyed, having been scammed by that chain multiple times. The alternative gaming shop had A TON of retro games, retro accessories, and GIANT wall posters for a great price. I was super impressed! read more

A good local mall to visit some of the stores for gift giving. I enjoyed drinking my Starbucks coffee while my grandson played in the playground area. Clean environment, people in general seemed happy being there while walking. Most people smiled at you as a "Hello"! read more

This mall has k-9s walking around. Which is fine, but a little off-putting/uncomfortable. We watched one of the k-9s sniff and follow a father holding his baby and walking with his wife. The police officer followed and stopped the man & ended up having no apparent reason. That would make me not want to come back. I would find another method of security... also, the staff in the food court were pretty adamant about shutting down a section of tables-turning families away aggressively.. pretty hostile. I would grab whatever you need out of here & go. Not really a family friendly or friendly environment at all... great selection of stores and items though, but Renton is a lot more welcoming... read more

The family and I like this mall. What we do not like is seeing a packed parking lot Friday during a pandemic along with a state mandate to limit occupancy to 25% capacity. There was not one person waiting outside. I am pretty sure this mall turned a blind eye to make a buck on the Black Friday weekend. We will not be going there!!! This mall has one level and lacks a few of the basic brands I hope to find when going out to the mall to shop. They do have a lot of stores that have random knickknack and toy items but if you're looking to actually shop for clothes and buy a new outfit - this mall doesn't seem like the place. There are a lot of options in the mall to eat and when I went I had their Thai fast food at the mall food court and once went over to the MOD pizza. This mall is definitely not as upscale as a mall such as the Bellevue or south center mall. read more

I was shopping and felt good about my purchases it's been a long time since I've enjoyed the mall. However we are walking past the food court when i seen a security guard and another guard w a k9 and past me .then about a minute later I felt someone chasing me down I turned around and the little security guy had the nerve to tell me that the dog was in the mall looking for explosives and firearms and he wanted to know what i did for a living . He said the dog positively hit on us walking by .I thought i was being punked .i told him are you serious then again he asked my occupation . I stated i was a student and then he said ok have a nice day .where does he get off asking me anything personal . I was so offended I will never go back there . Beware there's fake police with k9s tricking people and questioning without reason innocent shoppers . That little guy is brave and he should be careful who he asks stupid questions too. read more

I am handicapped. I can't walk and have to use a powerchair. I got such great service at the entire mall. I am from the South and the discrimination was so bad I just stopped going out because people treated me awful because of my weight, disability and that's not counting that I'm Gay/Non-Binary which I had to hide. Every single person in the mall today both customers and employees treated me like everyone else. Actually a little bit better. Every store had plenty of room to get around in my Powerchair. The few times things got a little narrow, someone was immediately there to help. I haven't been out of the house for fun for about 4 years. Today was a great day at a really great mall. I especially have to give a shout out to Spencer's and Wishes. Spencer's had LGBT items right by the door and it made me feel very comfortable and safe, since I was wearing nail polish. They were so helpful. Across the way at Wishes, I asked about fidget toys and instead of my following them to the places they had them around the store. They showed me the main spot and then brought other items from around the store so I didn't have to move from that spot. I felt like a V.I.P. They were so kind and sweet. I bought a brainteaser I had been looking for for awhile. I had such a nice time. I will be going back often. Thanks Tacoma Mall. read more

My mother and I had to go to this location. You'll discover why this review was posted in a bit. We had to visit this mall because our mall, which has been troubled with high vacancies, has no Apple Store. Unfortunately, my iPad lost WiFi capability after an update failed. I was under warranty, but our mall only *sells* Apple products. My mother wanted to look for a birthday present for to go with my Apple devices, so she planned to visit with me. Tacoma was the closest Apple store. The Tacoma Mall is an hour's drive from our city through heavy traffic. Mom looked at the reviews posted here and was terrified. She thought the mall would be "violent." We hadn't visited in many years, after all. Our mall had a shooting some years ago. A man brought his gun to the World Market and accidentally discharged it. The words "gheto" (sic) set Mom off. We were pleasantly surprised that the negative reviews were inaccurate. The mall was clean and the staff helpful. Unlike our mall, Tacoma was filled with shops people might actually want to visit. The floor was in good condition. It had a food court. Our mall has a draconian "manners" and dress code (the woman in charge is a Conservative Christian). I always worry I'll be targeted for wearing alternative clothing, and we aren't allowed to swear. People of color are told to steer clear of the place. At the Tacoma mall, there was more diversity. You can even wear hoodies so long as the hood isn't over your face. Mom was upset because she had to use the bathroom in Nordstrom's. She had read it was "filthy." She said it was fine, though. It was clean. The vacancy rate isn't as high as I expected. Our mall didn't even try, choosing instead to "fill" empty stores with "sitting areas" (for Mommies and the elderly, they said), weird local renters (Indoor archery and folk music, anyone?), and "faith-based stores" (the only "new" additions are a Hobby Lobby, a Chick-fil-a, and some Jesus-based hardware shop). If I lived closer to the Tacoma mall, I'd do all my shopping here rather than on Amazon. I've removed a star for the very aggressive kiosk sellers and demo persons. I understand many malls struggle with this issue, but it was intense during our visit. This is a much older mall that our local one. They had to deal with a dated Googie interior when renovating it. It is as well-renovated as it can be. It's nice to see that they are still around. Thankfully, the Internet isn't reality. If you need to go here, don't worry. read more

Tacoma may have it's flaws and problems that other cities and towns that are connected or close by to it that don't but one thing that it does not have a problem with is a dying mall. Of course the height of the era of the mall has passed in a very general sense there are still some out there that hold up with few vacancies inside and ones that are filled with brand names. There are malls that keep their spaces filled with mom and pop shops which in of itself isn't a bad thing but those just don't bring in the foot traffic enough to keep the building in a functioning and appealing state. That isn't a problem with the Tacoma Mall either. Despite the vacancy of Sears the mall seems to be very busy whenever I go and seems to be at no risk of facing demolition. I feel like I'm a bit too old to frequent the malls like I used to. Most of the shops and shoppers are definitely younger and the shops definitely reflect that. Some shops that I liked fairly well in the past like Hot Topic for example have gone through an overhaul and are very different than when I first came across them and in a way have lost a bit of their appeal. Zumiez hasn't changed too much and I love getting t shirts here but not usually enough to make a special trip to the mall for it. There are some restaurants that I do like that are part of the mall. Blazing Onion is a good burger joint that Steve and I like to go to on occasion and we always feel like we get good meals there. Another restaurant that isn't attached to the mall but is right by it is Buffalo Wild Wings. Again, not a place we would go out of our way for but a friend of us gives gift cards for Buffalo Wild Wings so we always go there to redeem it and haven't had bad meals there either. There are a few issues with the mall. For one getting there seems a bit difficult. Coming in from 38th is often congested and sometimes you wait a while to get there taking that route. There are more back road ways to get to the mall which are a bit easier but it seems like you can't avoid congestion completely. Also since Tacoma has a bit of a rougher element to it it isn't unheard of for the police to be here often due to break ins into cars and probably theft from the stores. On our last trip here we noticed more security than what we have seen at other malls. There seemed to be a temporary security watch tower erected to watch the parking lot and in the bigger stores they seemed to have their own security team. Granted the holiday shopping season is in full swing and these additional security measures may have been implemented because of that but it's always a good idea to not leave valuables in your car and of course lock your car... which may seem obvious but there are some out there that actually don't. read more

Tacoma mall is pretty big, lots of stores. I meet friends there on the regular. Many places to stop off at and shop or eat. Cheesecake factory is a must stop! Get yourself thicker for these cold weather nights. Gets some cheesecake. Its not the cheapest slice of cheesecake but it is THE BEST!. Every store has sales going on so go into every single one.
