5+ Star Review for AAMCO Reno I don't normally leave reviews--positive or negative--but Chris at AAMCO deserves 5+ stars, a beer, and a high five. Short story: I have a 2015 Jeep EcoDiesel with 100K miles. I knew it was time for some major services. The manual wasn't clear, so I called the dealer. That was fun. I walked away with a laundry list of items that I later found out aren't even applicable to my vehicle. All I wanted was to know what was needed vs. would be nice. I called six shops in the Reno area for quotes and advice before I got to Chris. I was pretty irritated at this point. His quote was significantly lower than the others and I almost just hung up..... but his explanations were detailed and easy to understand. Still, I was skeptical... so much so that I called him and the other shops back several times--almost stage 5 clinger--before finally picking a shop. Now, I'm all for saving a buck, but not at the expense of being stranded on the side of the road. Before dropping $2K at the dealer, I wanted to understand why I'd replace parts that don't even apply to my vehicle--just sayin'. But this is where the 6th star comes in: I dropped it off at 4 PM on Wednesday and got a call at 10 AM Thursday saying it was ready.... AND because he knew I was skeptical, he went as far as emailing before-and-after photos of the work he performed! He also took photos of what wasn't needed and explained why. I mean... really??? Bottom line: I feel confident that everything needed to keep my ride rollin' is good to go--and I somehow managed to save money in the process. ROCK ON! I have a 2015 Tacoma with an automatic transmission that has over 87k miles on it. I wasn't the best owner as this will be the first time I had it serviced for the transmission. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with the transmission. I phoned AAMCO and spoke to Gabriel and he was able to get me in and had my Tacoma serviced quickly and at a price which was much lower than the dealer. Would I recommend AAMCO? Yes. Yes I would. Go ahead and call Gabriel at AAMCO. He will schedule you so you won't be the cause of a miles long backup in the construction zones on the Freeways of Reno, Nevada. read more

Amazing services and the employees are knowledgeable and upfront from the owners to reception to mechanics! Had my car stolen and it was obviously damaged; I was told there was definite evidence of drag racing. I got the quote and was able to drop off my far that same day. Only took 3 day to get it back (had to order new tires.. delivery was delayed). Will be returning when regular maintenance and repairs are needed. read more

Be careful with this company! We were traveling and broke down. Left our truck for inspection and repair of TCM. After being lied to several times by receptionist that it was being worked on we finally got feedback after almost a week. Long story short, they wanted over $10k for repairs and new transmission stating it wasn't TCM. We had it flat bedded back to northern cal and a local shop replaced the TCM and all is well. The people working here are actually sick in the head and money hungry. I had a rebuilt transmission with them and I had a warranty with them that stated if there was a problem with their transmission within a year of having it they are obligated to fix it free of charge. I noticed a transmission leak, went to them and they stated it was a coolant leak so unfortunately they did have to charge me. Now I'm having problems again with my transmission, went to a new mechanic and they said my transmission has been leaking for quite some time and whoever told me it was a coolant leak was lying. The people here are not honest about the work that needs to be done, they are liars, and money hungry! Please do not go to them! If you decide to go to them, just know you might need to lawyer up and sue. read more

I can't honestly recommend this AAMCO at all. It took well over a month to replace the turbos on my F-150 (under warranty). I had to keep bringing it back to Check the engine lights. I ended up going to another shop to get everything working correctly. One of our commercial vehicles had the transmission replaced and what do you know, about 5 days later the 'new' transmission completely failed. Magically, when we took it back it took a few days and the transmission was 'fixed'. From what I can tell between my personal and work vehicles is that sometimes they try and get away with 'patching' a problem with a vehicle, charge for replacing the part, and then pray customers don't come back. There are so many other shops in town deserving of your business, this isn't one of them. read more

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE YOUR CAR TO RENO AAMCO! I should have read the reviews 1st. If I could give them a 0 I would. This place is completely deceitful. They gave my 80 yr old father a quote of $1400 to take out our the transmission and replace the seals because he had a leak. They made an appointment and he took it in at the appointment time. No call by the end of the day or by noon the next. This is his only vehicle. When he called they told him it wasn't ready and would not be before day's end which was a Friday. All weekend he was without a car--luckily no emergencies arose. No call Monday. No call Tuesday. Dad called and they told him, not done, and he should put in a radiator and new torque converter to the tune of $3k. My dad said no. He told them to get the seals done by the end of the day (Wednesday). They said they couldn't have it done that fast. FAST?! They told him 9hrs and $1400; they had it for 32 work hours and it wasn't done. Now they told him it would be at least $1600. My dad told him they had better have it done Thursday. He called first thing and they said they couldn't have it done Thursday before 2pm. It has now been a week in the shop, 7 days (5 work days), my dad said I am coming to pick it up so it better be done when I get there. It was done when he arrived, but the bill was $2 Grand! That is a long way from the original quote of $1400. Unfortunately, my 80 yr old father believes people and doesn't think about getting it in writing when he is told something. My father doesn't have that kind of money. I had to pay for it or he couldn't get his car. They took total advantage of an elderly man and should be prosecuted. read more

Transmission fluid cooling radiator failed shortly after they replaced my transmission (took over 30 days). Unrelated? I don't know. Josh diagnosed the problem which I thought was a leak from the transmission. Not a major concern, just need to check fluid level often. My reason for posting this review is Aamco's lack of response to a customers needs. I went in to get an estimate and schedule an appointment. At the time, Gabriel was too busy to work with me. I get it. I filled out a form with my info. Three weeks later and two phone calls and I still don't have a line of communication available with them. Gabriel always has an excuse. He says that he has employee issues not showing up, understaffed, shipping issues. Always an excuse. And I'm sure when he reads this...... he'll have an excuse. read more

Ammco has serviced me 1998 ford windstar for over 20 years. I also had my other vehicles served there as well. the ammco services at all the facilities have been great. the Reno Ammco has done the majority of my services and have been great. one time I had my mini van serviced and the mechanic asked me to see this,, the front wheels bearing s were so bad and mentioned to me this car cannot be driven. they fixed it right away. both transmissions and auto repairs department s have been great. i highly recommend Ammco for services. read more

I'm posting this on behalf of my friend Paul Petterson who doesn't have a Yelp account. Paul was on his way to Reno when the transmission on his truck gave out. He brought his truck to Dennis and Aaron at this shop and was very impressed with their ability to clearly explain everything that needed to be done. It turned out that he also needed work on his rear differential which they also clearly explained and laid out the options for him. Overall Dennis and Aaron provided great customer service and Paul highly recommends getting work done at this shop! read more

Had an engine replaced at this location (CarMax sent the vehicle there due to an engine failure). What a horrible experience. A week after receiving the car back from AAMCO and CarMax there was a burning oil smell coming from the engine. New motor...that is weird. When the hood was popped to take a look we found the problem right away. No oil cap. On a new motor. How do you even let a car leave your facility without an oil cap on a new motor. But hey they also left a wrench sitting on the motor too so we got that bonus. We took it back to AAMCO after CarMax refused to do anything. At this point the motor had oil all over it. They did not even offer to clean it. All they did was make sure the motor was still okay. No apology. No "let's make this right" just...everything looks okay and we wiped some of the oil off the motor. If you do use these guys...make sure you have someone with knowledge that can inspect your car after they touch it. Or avoid them. Would not recommend based on our experience. read more

Really unsure where to start. I have tried to rectify the situation but I truly could not be more displeased with this company and its employees. I brought my car continuously to AAMCO for the entirety of 2023 to never even have the initial problem resolved, TO THIS DAY. I was persuaded into buying a very expensive warranty to help cover the "transmission" issues I was told I was having and reassured 2 weeks later when my car was "fixed" that they drove my car up and down and were confident that I would not run into the same problem. Within 5 minutes of getting into my car and hopping on the freeway, I not only ran into the SAME issues but worse. I ended up bringing my car elsewhere for a second opinion to be told that 1. my transmission was never touched and 2. it was not a transmission issue that I was having. I may be a girl but I am not stupid. Gabriel is a pro at saying all the right things and persuading you in what you "need" to do but I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of this man's mouth. Work was falsely done to my car just so he could try and convince me into buying a brand-new transmission from them. I would not recommend AAMCO to my worst enemy. I tried asking for the paperwork indicating that the work was indeed done - they couldn't deliver. I asked to speak to the owner about the issue and was given a fake name and number. I have reported this to the Better Business Bureau and my next step is DMV. This place needs to be investigated and unfortunately for them, I was the wrong person to take advantage of. Unless you have money trees in your backyard and no brain cells, take your time and money elsewhere because this place when it comes to cars doesn't know the difference between their elbow and their ass. Please please do not let these idiots touch your car! I brought my car MERCEDES in to this place two months ago! They don't communicate it was supposed to be done in a week! Now they are claiming they can't fix it after supposedly working on it for multiple days! Then I go to pick up my car! They had no records of what was put into the car and now my car won't even drive home and is smoking! The messed it up even more now and they take zero responsibility for anything! They claim it was smoking when I brought it in which it definitely was not! They are liars and don't know dick about anything! Dropped my truck off early and called when they opened. Decided on not getting any service this time because of the price and was going to pick up my truck on lunch. When I came to get my truck they had blocked me into the parking lot and refused to move the vehicles all around me. Very unprofessional. I am so happy I was referred to AAMCO. Sunday night, my car was not working right. Shifting was extremely difficult. I could barely shift into first and second gear then I could not reverse at all. I brought it in Monday late afternoon, and Dennis helped me out. He was super nice. They found that my Jeep Wrangler needed a new clutch kit. They got my jeep fixed and got it back to me Tuesday at closing time. It's running amazing, even better than before. Thank you, Dennis and the AAMCO Team! Great prices! Great service! By far the best shop in town. The guys are knowledgeable and helpful. I absolutely recommend them. And I always say trust a shop that is always busy. The owner of the franchise is always present and helpful and is willing to answer questions. Other shops worked on my car and said they were not able to figure out the problem. Aamco not only found the issues but I have been able to go back and ask questions several times and they even corrected a problem that another shop caused by putting missing screws back on my engine cover of my WRX. read more

Not recommended at all. They did work on a friend's vehicle that cost a significant amount in repairs and parts. They kept the vehicle for 3 weeks and now upon inspection by another mechanic, the repairs were not done and some parts were not replaced as stated in bill. Way to take advantage of women! read more

If you need transmission work, don't waste your time looking around, just come to AAMCO. I have had two of my vehicles serviced here and both price and quality of service is as good as it gets. Trustworthy and honest. On the second repair I was going to get, Aaron told me to keep driving until the issue got worse, as he didn't think it looked bad enough to address at the time. Glad I listened to him as I got another year of driving out of it. Not many shops would be that honest, and they would done the work immediately. They stand behind their work and the warranty is good and can be handled at any AAMCO. I don't usually give a lot of feedback, but felt this was one that needed and deserved to be shared. read more

I bought a 2006 Subaru Impreza from Steven Maffioli at Subaru of Las Vegas 5385 Sahara Avenue (actual first name is Estaben). He is the service manager there, but in everyday life, he's scum. He sold us this used Subaru under many false pretenses, one of which was a guaranteed "almost brand new clutch". We had the vehicle for almost, yes, not even a full, 6 months, when we started hearing tell-tale signs of a throw out bearing faulting. He also gave us his card if we had any issues.. So, we called him. He was unhelpful, continuous in his lies, and incredibly mean. So, after many punches to my pillow wishing badly he could feel my blows, my husband and I began our search for "help". We are from the Reno area, but are currently located in Ely, NV, which means we would have to travel to Reno for our car to be diagnosed and potentially fixed. I looked up Subaru of Reno to start. They quoted us 1400 for parts and labor as long as the clutch was the only thing broken.. That seemed very steep and out of our budget by a lot.. The very next inquire was at Aamco, located of Mill street. They had some good reviews and after making a few phone calls, found out a few friends/family had used them and gave them a good reference. My husband made the phone call and was greeted appropriately and was quoted 800. Woo! Almost half of our original quote. I believe he spoke to Aaron, the gm, but in all honesty, anyone of those guys could have held the same helpful demeanor and attentiveness. This was a Friday afternoon, we had just pulled into town from ely. My husband had work on Tuesday morning at 4:00 am, so we had a small window to get our vehicle fixed with no appointment lined up already. We made Aaron aware of this and he stated to get the car to him ASAP and if it was just the clutch, guaranteed it to be done by 1pm on Monday, which also happened to be a holiday. When we dropped off the car, my husband was attended to promptly, professionally and with amazing customer service skills. They said we'd get a call within the hour with their diagnosis and verify price again. I believe it was about 45 min when they called and confirmed it was the clutch and again, quoted the original price! Woo again! No gimmicks, no add ons that are "necessary" no extra problems.. He also made us aware that this Steven guy had most definitely NOT replaced our clutch anytime recently.. Scum he is.. BEWARE! We received a call from Aaron on Monday around 11am, 2 hours ahead of schedule, that our car was ready and waiting. We hastily drove to retrieve it and noticed a 10% off coupon online, but stated it must be shown upon diagnostic, which we obviously had not done. Before paying, I mentioned this coupon and they still went ahead and honored it! Boom, another 50 bucks off! Wooooo (that the last woo I promise!) overall, very very happy with our entire experience with Aamco and their employees. I HIGHLY recommend them to any and everybody! Thanks again Aamco! read more

Brought my car to this shop on two occasions where one thing was fixed but something else was broken after wards. Seems they break more then they fix. The first time I let it slide but the second time I complained but to no avail. The manager actually had an attitude when I told him about the issue. I've had my vehicle serviced since 2009 I have six vehicles several work vehicles I own a service plumbing company so when it's time to get things fixed I can't have my service vehicles in the shop for too long it's a loss of income and the guys at Amco really know that they take care of everything I have never had a problem there I've had two transmissions replaced a motor replaced in my daughters car. Aaron and Dennis are the Best. I tried to get my Chevy suburban 2003 smog for almost a year took it to almost 20 shops including the DMV everyone had some idea the only person that figured out why it wouldn't pass smog was the mechanic Isaac at Amco my suburban still running great passes smog every year and there was really never a problem with it with 20 other mechanics had many ideas with prices from $500-$5000 for a new motor after it all was said and done two hours with Isaac took it out of the DMV took it to a smog shop everything's been great thank you guys at Aamco! read more

I called AAMCO on Tuesday around noon after a Reno Ford dealership finally provided info our fleet vehicle needed 8.2 labor hours to determine if the transmission could be rebuilt after it had been there for 12 days. Really? Within 4 1/2 hours of my call, Aaron and Dennis brought our vehicle to their shop, I had a total cost (including tax) and informed it would be done in 48 hours and it was. Terrific customer service!!! Run, don't walk to this AAMCO and they will do all they can to help and are a pleasure to work with. I look forward to giving them more business and not just for transmissions. read more

Extremely disappointed after getting our transmission fixed and a new radiator put in already had issues five minutes after leaving, our vehicle was overheating and when we stopped at a gas station smelled something funny and saw that the plug had been left off of our back differential and it was leaking the whole time we drove to the gas station. Stopped at a jiffy lube across the street to see if we could pick up a new plug to avoid anymore leaking and talked to them about the overheating. When they popped the hood and undid the first notch on the radiator cap heard it hissing and waited for it to stop then they went to turn it the next notch and the cap flew off and the coolant came flying out of the radiator spraying all over the place! They put new coolant in for us and we waited to see if it would overheat again before we drove home. Got home and it was still running hot went to check coolant and again had it erupt out of our radiator then found out our thermostat had been put in upside down!! Very disappointed with the lack of attention given to our vehicle! read more
