Solid pick for vegetarian Indian. We've been a few times, most recently last night, and always get 3 veg dishes to share. Last night was chana, dal, and bhangan bharta. All tasted very fresh and yummy. We ordered the chana and bharta medium spicy, and the waiter said, "Medium hot or medium medium?" LOL. We got medium medium and it was extremely minimally spicy, so maybe next time we'll be even braver! read more

I enjoyed every dish I had here. The fish curry and goat dish were excellent. Good place to go for a flavorful and heartwarming meal. It can get a little chilly in there though every time someone opens the door, as it's one open room. read more

I went in for lunch and I tried their lunch special. Basically it is free garlic/onion/butter naan with any curry (not tikka masala). I had the lamb palak with garlic naan and it was pretty good except the lamb palak was a little too runny for my liking. read more

Another 3.5 stars I felt. I really wanted to really love this place but I can't say that for sure. The naan was delicious. The tikka masala was pretty good but slightly too sweet. The palak paneer was ok, not my favorite. And the okra dish was good. Service was neither here nor there which I don't mind, they did their job and that's fine. I'd really like to give this place another try and maybe try some more items off the menu. read more

me and the gf came here with high expectations based on the glowing reviews. the proverbial mixed bag of dishes left us a little disappoint. the samosa chaat appetizer was the best thing we ordered. a couple crispy samosa came covered in a garbanzo-cilantro-curry yogurt sauce. totally delish. the dal with its garlic undertones and the creamy saag paneer were on point too. but it was the hella salty spicy okra and bheda ra bhenta (lamb eggplant curry) that ultimately put a damper on the meal. to add insult to injury, the lamb was boiled tough and tossed in an eggplant stew base after the fact. and i really love lamb, so had to take off a 2nd star for that one. there's plenty of good stuff on the menu, but you're at the mercy of inconsistency. not really interested in my dinner being like a box of chocolates. i'd prolly go back, but there be so many other indian options on lower (and upper) solano.... read more

We went to Hamro Aangan for our anniversary lunch because it started with an H and it was, technically, Himalayan food. We celebrate alphabetically! Our lunch was fantastic and the service was friendly and prompt. We ordered the mixed veggie pakora platter, chicken tikka masala and chicken korma. One rice to share. I could probably leave the korma out next time because the tikka masala was DIVINE! Comparable to the best Indian food I've had (in the UK). Would definitely hit this place up again if I were to travel to the east bay! read more

They must have changed chefs at least if not the entire kitchen staff cause the quality of their curries went down drastically. We would only get Indian food from this restaurant for over 2 years and this past couple months the flavor has not nearly been as rich in herbs and creamy as before. The staff did not treat me nicely when I pointed out how different the curry was and said it's the same as everyone else's..... what?! It was always better than everyone else's! It was amazing for over 2 years. Now it's just one like the rest and does not stand out. Bad service will definitely send me to trying new places. read more

I'll definitely be coming back here! Read the reviews, sounded good, and it's Indian food, which I always love, so I had to come and check it out! My boy and I got here early...we were the only ones in the dining room to start! People came in fairly regularly after we came in, though, a couple to go orders, and the room was about half full when we left, and this on a typically unlively Tuesday night. The space is warm, chairs are comfy, and you get HUGE glasses of water. The owner greeted us and a very nice lady took our orders. I got the thali, and my boyfriend got the chicken tikka masala. He got his mild (he has spice issues) and I got medium for mine. The thali was awesome. They have four types you can get, and I just went with chicken. It came with chicken jalfrezi (I think), saag paneer, dal, raita, a piece of papadum and a piece of naan. Oh, and rice of course! The flavors of everything were awesome, but the heat level was low. I would have thought it mild, not medium, but hey, every place is different, which is why I order medium at any new restaurant to gauge their spice level. Now I know! I loved that the raita had a little flavor, rather than just being watery yogurt. I absolutely love saag paneer and it was delicious. I wasn't able to finish all my food. The boy liked the flavor of his tikka masala, but (and I have NEVER heard him say this before) he thought it wasn't spicy enough. Wow. Big shock to me, but again, this is in the restaurant's favor, at least for me. We've actually been to a couple places that mild was too warm for his palate. So...excellent! Very tasty, especially the appetizers -- the samosa chana was really delicious, and the mixed vegetable pakoras were wonderfully crispy and flavorful. The garlic naan was good, though much lighter in style than I've had elsewhere. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was good as well. read more

Chicken Momo is the bomb because I love dumplings. I love that they have keep the bone in their chicken. It adds so much more flavor. So much yogurt. If you like yogurt, you might dig it. read more

I've had my share of Indian food around the Berkeley area, and I have to say that this has to be my favorite yet. Everything that we ordered was delectable: Mango Lassi - thick, not too sweet, with a strong mango taste Chicken Tikka Masala - yum. definitely our favorite, but it was on the sweeter side of the spectrum. Lamb Curry - tasted more stewy than a curry, but it was good. Paneer Dosa - i like paneer, so we tried it dosa style, which is like an Indian crepe. It was good, but a bit on the blander side, I'd like to try the Masala Dosa next time. Plain Naan - i liked the texture of this naan better than the garlic, but the garlic/onion one did have a good flavor. Also, props to Bishnu, he really made us feel welcome. I also liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, it's perfect for taking your time to enjoy your meal with friends or loved ones, as it's not too crowded and rowdy. Only thing for me is that I'm used to being spoiled with the free chai tea at many Indian restaurants, which you have to pay for here...but you win some you lose some. read more

Really decent place. Came in here close to 9pm with my family. Seated right away, as there weren't too many other diners at the time. The owners(?) were warm and friendly, but not pushy. Food was pretty good, definitely better than Naan N Curry, probably comparable to Vik's in Berkeley. We ordered the Tandoori Chicken, Kadhai Lamb, Lamb Korma, Chicken Biryani, garlic naan, and regular naan. ALL AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS, as I'm sure the rest of their dishes are. My and my sisters go to Indian spot! We've tried almost every meat dish on the menu and we are always happy. Get the garlic naan and lamb tikka masala and you will forever be hooked! Portions for take away were a little on the small side, but the prices were good. The Chicken Tikka Masala was pretty bland and runny because I personally like my curries hearty with "kick you in the mouth" kind of flavor. The naan was decent and quite large, not too doughy like some other places can be. The goat curry was actually very greasy and the meat was fatty, had quite a lot of gristle and a bit tough. Personally not my favorite dish, but some people probably dig it. The staff seemed very nice. I would recommend to go for spicy as the medium and mild versions of the curry were very mild. I am not a fire eater and thai green curry can sometimes make my nose run, so given that ask for spice accordingly. It's always good to support local businesses so I hope people post their comments so the owners get constructive feedback. read more

Well, I liked it - it was as tasty and fulfilling as I wanted it to be. The joint spices heartily - in the best way. Some might argue for more delicacy, but for me, I like to eat something that makes me take notice, remember, and crave later. Every dish was not an equal success, but I will surely return to see if my first thoughts were superficial or sound. As you will see, I didn't go outside the box with my first order, but I like to do that with a new 'ethnic' restaurant. Lamb Vindaloo - vindaloo is, perhaps, not as cliche a choice as chicken tikka masala, but it is close. Still, Goan is one of my favorite Indian flavor profiles. It could be argued this version might have been a little too heavy with the tomato, but I really don't care about 'authenticity' over flavor. This was rich and yummy and it brought a clean background of sensible heat. Keema Roti (spiced-minced lamb with onions and cilantro inside a flour roti) - fine, just fine, but nothing I'd ever describe as a can't miss dish. Naan - it's naan. Have you ever had *bad* naan at a restaurant? That's like getting bad rice at a Chinese restaurant - to be sure it's possible, but if you don't like it, it's most likely because you're just used to it prepared in a slightly different way. Samosa - it was not deeply colored enough to my eye but it was hot, completely cooked, and very good. I might salt and spice my stuffing a touch more, but that's nitpicking. Samosas are hard to ruin if you have a reasonably competent chef in the kitchen. Tandoori Chicken - a real surprise - neither dry (it was actually juicy) nor bland (heartily spiced, remember?) and one of my favorite things at this meal. I could probably eat a whole chicken myself. I might try. True 4? Hard to say because I didn't really 'test' the kitchen - but my intuition says it is worth at least 3.5 rounded up. I will amend this as necessary should my future visits fail to impress. read more

Came here with a couple of friends for dinner and we were not disapointed! Everything we ordered was delicious! We had the chicken tandoori, vegetable platter, samosas, and momos. I especially liked the momos. They had so much flavor and a real kick to them. The service was very attentive. The servers kept on coming over to fill up our water glasses. The atmosphere was exciitng and alive with a lot of people there, and the color red was everywhere on the walls, tables, place mats. I really like this place a lot. This is one of our favorite places between Berkeley and Albany. The garlic naan is super yummy! My one big critique is that they seem to put lots of sugar/sweetener into their dishes. The tikka masala, for example, is well spiced, but also seems overly sweet. Anyone else notice this? The spinach and cheese dish is good, but the egg plant dish is boring. Service has always been great here, even when they're busy which they usually are. Highly recommended for some solid good food! read more

What a delightful find! We shared a fish curry and the chicken Thali platter. All were fresh and delicious with a compelling mix of spices. We ordered mild-medium heat which was a perfect intensity. The service was friendly and the owner even brought out a sample of beaten rice for us to sample. Ordered the rice pudding for dessert and was pleasantly surprised to see it served hot. Some of the best Indian/Nepalese food :) I have to say my favorite dish is the chicken Momo's (you have to try them, if you love dumpling!), though all the food I have had has been prefectly spiced and seasoned. Just had tikka masala, saag paner and some naans for take away. The tikka was the deeper darker red ehich what I like. Very tasty sauce and no dry chicken here. Saag paneer was also very nice. Really fresh taste of the spinach an nice cheese. Since we drove some 20 minutes the naans became a little soggy/doughy but that's kinda expected. I asked for spicy, and that's what you will get for sure. I like it on the spicier side (always picks the hot salsa) and this was pretty spicy ! No problems finishing, but I might go for medium (or something in between) next time. Nice staff, prompt service and 7.99 for a tikka masala. For the quality a very good price. For me, this for sure is one of the better I've tried in the east bay. Will absolutely try it again if I drive by, and also worh a 20 minute drive. read more

Such great food & service! We ordered the Lamb Korma (me), Khashi Ko Masu (Mike), garlic naan, spicy okra, & raita (rice). Everything was well flavored, especially the garlic naan. The lamb was tender & the sauce it was served in was so creamy, I sopped up the leftovers with the naan. Mike enjoyed his meal also & loved the spicy okra (I need to learn the recipe). Aangan is a restaurant we will visit often. Only downside is it closes at 9:00pm, but they do have takeout (hint hint). read more

Just absolutely fabulous. Warm and inviting from the moment we walked in. Our waiter, one of the owners made appetizer suggestions; one warm one cold and it was spot on delicious. He asked us carefully about how hot/spicy we liked so they could make it just to out party's request and nailed it perfectly; medium to hot, fully spicy. We knew what we wanted: lamb, chicken tikka but he suggested two other sides to give us a fuller range of tastes and textures and again his suggestions were perfect. Then came the bill, very reasonable, which was a big surprise after the superb quality of the food. We will definitely be back with more of our friends. While by no means an expert, I've eaten plenty of Indian/Himalayan/Nepalese food in my time, plus, I just know what tastes good! :) This is a comforting, hole in the wall type place, but in this case, it's part of the charm. We ordered the vegetable curry (spicy, but not so spicy as to interfere with the flavors), basmati rice, dosa (non-paneer type), & garlic naan. The curry & naan were the best. I could taste the spices & herbs, the ingredients were fresh, & everything seemed freshly prepared. We also had chai tea, which was yummy: not too spicy, milky, or sweet. I have tried a handful of dishes here and the flavors are delicious. My go to the past couple times has been the Chicken Chow Mein. Flavorful yet slightly a little oily but that adds to the spices in the dish. I would recommend this if you are in the area or looking for some really good indo/Nepalese food. read more

This place is fantastic! We were hitting a show at the Ivy Room next door and decided to get dinner before hand. What a great gem! The food was so tasty. We decided to grab a few of the Nepalese options and added some of our go-to indian dishes to give a good variety. The chicken momo (think Chinese dim sum) was so good and you receive a decently sized platter as a starter. There was an amazing bbq chicken dish with beaten rice that was SPICY and so flavorful!
