Ordered their Lamb Biryani & Kheer Rice Pudding to make " IFTHAR " - Dusk Fast Breaking Meal this RAMADAN 24th. Day. The Main Course " Left Something 2 be " Desired ". Biryani is an Indian & Pakistani Fried Rice Delicacy. I ordered an hour prior to the appointed Fast Breaking Hour...thus when the Meal arrived infusing my Apartment with a Pleasant Spice AROMA - I had to set the Bag Aside. This is a wonderful place to come to eat on any day for any occasion. Every single person that works here is incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially Binita whom served us. The flavors of the food are some of the best I've tasted for this cuisine, and I wish more there were more locations operating at this level of service and quality throughout the Bay Area and beyond. The art and the ambiance were definitely very well put together and created a wonderful atmosphere that made not want to leave. My bf and I placed a phone order on a Wednesday night for pickup at 8:30 pm. We looked for metered street parking, but found an open residential spot nearby. Our order of ~$57 after tax fed 3-4 people. We got 1 drink, 2 appetizers, and 1 curry with an order of naan and roti each. I was greeted warmly at the counter upon entering the restaurant. DRINKS & SIDES ORDERED - Mango Lassi ($4.95). I was surprised by the smaller portion size (about 8 oz), but that's NorCal for you. The mango lassi was good, a little tart and a little sweet. It was on the thicker side and tasted more like yogurt than mango. - Garlic Herb Naan ($1.95 if added with curry). I enjoyed the bread's chewy yet fluffy texture. It was seasoned with basil, rosemary, oregano, mint, and fenugreek. I personally would have preferred a simpler medley of herbs. - Roti ($3.50). The whole wheat roti was chewy and soft with some layers. If compared to the naan, it was denser and less soft. It had a nice yeasty flavor, which may be attributed to the wheat, since roti usually does not contain yeast. APPETIZERS ORDERED - Chicken Sekuwa ($12.95 - 10 pcs). These tandoor-baked chicken skewers were yummy! The menu said it was marinated with Nepali herbs and spices. Each piece was tender and juicy. I forget if the boneless chicken was white or dark meat. The chicken was served on a bed of onions, carrots, and cabbage. - Mixed Momo ($11.95 - 8 pcs, 4 chicken and 4 vegetarian). The chicken momo contained minced chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, and cilantro. It was just alright. The flavor was actually quite neutral, and the filling was neither juicy nor dry. The veg momo was filled with minced cabbage, spinach, onion, and cilantro. I liked this one better than the chicken. It tasted like curry flavors with texture provided by the veg. According to the website, you can order the veg momo either vegan or vegetarian; I assume the default is vegetarian. Both momos had a thick and chewy dumpling skin that was not dry. I enjoyed the dipping sauce of tomato chutney, which tasted savory and earthy. CURRY ORDERED - Malai Kofta ($16.95 - medium spicy). I actually visited Taste of the Himalayas over 10 years ago and had the best malai kofta of my life. I think the gravy is still the best: sweet, savory, and spiced. However, the balls of potato, paneer, and nuts fell apart too easily. I think they tasted more cheesy and potatoey back in the day. At least they did not skimp on the nuts. read more

Delicious food! We ordered the samosas, chili momos, chicken tikka masala, and the aloo vanta (potatoes and eggplant). It was all so delicious! The tikka masala sauce was very creamy, you could taste the different spices. The eggplant was earthy and savory. Service was very attentive, everyone smiled, and we felt very welcome. We were informed that the driver had driver arrived at the restaurant in a timely manner but was unable to pick up our order because the restaurant hadn't printed the receipt correctly. The driver let us know staff told him "this happened yesterday as well to other drivers" - apparently the restaurant hadn't bothered to correct this problem when they discovered it. Uber-eats told us the driver waited 20 minutes to pick up our food and the restaurant offered no help or apology whatsoever - driver apologized to us but was unable to confirm pick up so our food went cold and stayed on the counter. Service was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. Awful is the right word. When we walked in, there was a weird smell -- not very inviting. The momo was okay, but everything else was a disaster. I ordered the lamb thali, which was supposed to come with dal, saag, lamb, and achar. Instead, I got salad, lamb curry, yogurt, and papad. When we asked for dal, what arrived was so thin it was basically flavored water. We also ordered sekuwa for my son. Sekuwa is Nepali grilled meat. It's marinated with Nepali spices and cooked over a wood fire or charcoal, giving it a smoky flavor. It's not tandoori chicken -- that's Indian style, cooked in a clay oven with a yogurt marinade. But what came out was just tandoori chicken on skewers -- not sekuwa at all. If the owners don't make a serious change in the kitchen -- starting with firing the chef -- this restaurant is going to go downhill fast. I will give 2 1/2 just because of the service read more

We dined here last evening April 11,2026. We specifically told the waiter we had a severe sesame allergy and he reassured us that nothing we ordered had sesame. When the appetizer arrived, again we asked if he was sure there was no sesame seed or oil , again he assured us no. A few minutes later , we rushed to the ER as one in our party of 3 was having a severe allergy reaction. We promptly left and instead of our planned night at the ballet we spent the night at the ER. This is simple negligence !! I called the restaurant from the ER to ask what was in the appetizer that was eaten( none of the entrees were eaten), and the person who answered the phone listed them and sesame was one of them! So not ok! So unprofessional ! Not only are allergies very dangerous, as this one was, had we not rushed to the ER, you destroyed our evening and our plans the next day! They have lunch sets, but my friend and I decided to order a la carte. The chicken tikka masala was rich and creamy. Everything you'd want in one. The momos were good, but I believe the vegetable one was spicy. The samosas had a nice crunchy exterior and were pretty filling. Balti, momo's, tika... oh my! A Taste if the Himalayas is a lovely variety of Indian, Nepalese cuisine that is pretty tasty. We ordered what seemed like everything on the menu, and enjoyed all of it. Shopping in Berekley can make anyone hungry! The balti with naan was one of my personal favorites. It had great layers of flavor with some spice. Big chunks of meat and veggies. The serving size is best suited for one. The chicken tikka masala was super flavorful, the chicken was tender and not dried tasting pieces, it was a bit spicier than I had expected. Thank goodness for naan! We had ordered some Momos for an appetizer, but I found them to be rather gluey tasting, on somewhat disappointing. Are used to live in Berkeley six years ago and always loved this place. My husband and I visited a couple weeks ago after going to a Cal Berkeley football game. I am happy to report that this place held up in quality, service, and price. The food is incredible - so well seasoned. My favorite dish is the tikka masala. Also, the naan is huge and so tasty! I go here pretty often for sit in before the pandemic and then during and after the pandemic we ordered pickup. The food was never bad, but it was as hit or miss. However, today I was out with my daughter who is 8 and she really needed the bathroom. I walked into this restaurant and a woman smiled and greeted us and then I asked if we could use their restroom, and the woman's expression completely changed and said the bathroom didn't work. Other customer was obviously using the restroom. I honestly felt disappointed because I've supported this restaurant since 2009 and then the one time I asked to use their restroom without ordering something, they denied me. Friendly staff, but really mediocre food (which is overpriced). It all tasted like there was not much of a variety of spices used to flavor the dishes, so distinct flavor was provided at all. Also, they were playing some truly terrible vaguely Indian pop music (no, not Bollywood)--it was extremely irritating and very loud; the same musical motif kept being sung in a loop by someone who should not have been singing. I nicely asked a staffperson to turn it down; she came back awhile later to ask if it was better now, but she hadn't actually turned it down more than half a decibel. I asked her to try again, which she did, but by then we'd been there half an hour and my nerves were fried. I'm a musician, so this stuff gets to me. Also, I like incense just fine, but they kept burning some extra heavy, very sweet incense, and it was overwhelming. If you have a problem with strong incense, this is not the place for you. You could sit at one of the tables outside on the sidewalk to escape from it, but then what you've got is AC Transit busses regularly pulling up *right there*, stopping there for several seconds and then taking off again, and they make a hell of a racket. We had hoped for a better experience overall, but honestly, this place was a big disappointment. read more

This place is good, we liked some items better than others. Got there at 6:15p on a Saturday and it wasn't full but by 7:15p it was fairly full. They still have an outside parklet, and no masks required inside but staff wear them and doors are open. We were able to order & get our food quickly. I was a bit bummed their online menu did not match the in-restaurant menu so something I was hoping to order was not on the menu but also I didn't ask. Overall the entrees are small but a good reason to get apps & sides, esp veggies because most entrees don't have vegetables in them. I have lived in Berkeley for many years and I go to the Taste of the Himalayas restaurant frequently, sometimes with a group of friends on the weekend, and sometimes by myself on evenings during the week. The food is tasty and authentic and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Particularly, two ladies who come from Nepal, Binita, and Prapti, who work in the front of the restaurant are very lovely and helpful, it's always a delight to see them. The nice Nepali music playing in the background and pretty art of the Himalayas, plus the good Himalayan food and top notch customer service from Binita and Prapti and other staff always make going to Taste of the Himalayas restaurant a great dining experience. read more
