Scratched the itch for butter chicken! We ordered the lamb curry and butter chicken. We were able to substitute both of our rice for 1 order of naan, which is unfortunately because 2 naan instead of 1 would've been nice. This forced us to order another naan. Anyway, the food looked deceivingly small, but they actually packed a good amount of protein. Flavors was good too (surprised some reviews said the food was bland). Had a craving for some butter chicken and naan. My husband decided to try the Lamb Curry ($16.99). On the menu the curries, including Butter Chicken ($17.99) comes with rice, but I asked whether I could substitute that with a plain naan instead. It was only a 51 cent difference which I would've been willing to pay, but the server said that wasn't possible, and we would only be allowed to substitute the rice for BOTH curries in exchange for 1 portion of naan. I'd understand if they just had a no substitution policy, but this came off really stingy to me. 1 portion of naan wasn't enough for the both of us, so we ended up ordering another one for $3.50. Anyways, the food itself was very delicious nonetheless! The curry dishes looked small, but there was still a good amount of meat that filled us right up. We've been coming to this restaurant for years--easily 10+ visits--and have always tipped well and supported the business. Unfortunately, after tonight, we won't be returning. We ordered the rack of lamb ($25.99) and were shocked by what arrived. The plate came with only three extremely thin chops, all severely overcooked. One chop honestly looked like a bite had been taken out of it before it reached our table. For the price, the portion and quality were unacceptable. These chops were no bigger than a 50- cent piece! What made the experience worse was how the issue was handled. We brought it to the staff's attention, but no offer was made to remake the dish or provide a refund--not even a partial one. For a place we've been loyal to for so long, that was incredibly disappointing. Everyone has an off night, but how a restaurant handles a mistake matters. Unfortunately, this experience showed a lack of care for long-time customers. There are too many great options out there to justify coming back after this. read more

I absolutely love the Himalayan Tandoori & Curry house. The vegetable biriyani and the chicken tikka masala make for an excellent combo (and I try to be vegetarian, but it's just so good!), and their veggie samosas are some of the best I've ever had. I tend to order delivery from them a lot more than I go in to eat, which makes me feel sad because it keeps their restaurant looking emptier and I want them to succeed and thrive, but honestly I love their food so much I just often order it just for myself and have delicious leftovers for the next day (or two). Located further up on the quieter part of Solano up near Berkeley Hills, this small, unassuming establishment houses some of the best Indian/Nepalese food we've had in awhile! My wife wanted to celebrate her birthday dinner at a more casual restaurant this year, and was craving some Indian food. She stumbled upon this place on Yelp, and wanted to try it out given the high reviews. We stopped in around 7pm without a reservation, and there was plenty of available seating inside. For our first visit, we opted for the chicken coconut, fish tandoori, a side of garlic naan, and a plate of chicken momos. Everything was delicious, but we ESPECIALLY enjoyed the momos (big, steamed dumplings) and the chicken coconut. The entrées each come with your choice of white of brown rice on the side. This is a great place. I've eaten here 3 times. I don't remember what I had the first time, but it was good enough that I thought "I'll try it again." The 2nd time I ordered Chicken Curry, and my girlfriend ordered Chicken Biryani. Both were fantastic! I had regular naan with the curry, and it was made perfectly. The 3rd time....which was tonight....I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala with onion naan, and my girlfriend AGAIN ordered the Chicken Biryani. Again, superb. The Chicken Tikka Masala was slightly different than the other CTM I've had, and I asked the owner....she said that since it is a Nepalese restaurant the spices are a little different than in an Indian dish. Well let me tell you it was a killer dish. I am going to order the CTM again next time I'm there, which will probably be in 2 weeks when my college buddy visits from out of town. I told the owner "this is great onion naan" and she said "my husband made it." ! So it's a wife/husband duo that runs and cooks. Truly excellent. My girlfriend recently moved to a new place, and asked if she might order a platter or something for a housewarming party, and was told 'yes'....some sort of semi-catered dish/arrangement appears to be in the works. I have never had Himalayan style food but Tandoori being in the name led me to believe that it might be similar to Indian food which I love. We were the only people in the restaurant for most of the time, so it was very quiet with the exception of takeout customers coming in and out. It was mid-day and mid-week which probably explains that. We ordered 2 dishes one of which was like a sampler of 3 different items called Daal Bhat Tarkari and the Himalayan Biryani both of which were amazing and plentiful. One item would have been enough for both of us, but was excellent as takeout over the next couple of days. We also ordered one order of Garlic Naan Bread, which might have been the best I have ever had. I could have just eaten 5 pounds of that (JK). Looking for tasty Indian cuisine? Then you found the right place! Himalayan Tandoori and Curry is fabulous. I thought it was high time I finally did a review of this place after coming here all year long. We discovered this restaurant through DoorDash roulette. We just picked up a group and looked under the recommended places. We've actually tried about four or five other places but we keep coming back to this one because it is consistently good, the flavors are rich, and the price is reasonable. FOOD: other than my craving for dosa, this place takes care of it all. Their naan is fresh and delicious (we highly recommend the aloo naan - potato naan). The butter chicken has a rich, creamy sauce we can dip into for days (not literally because we eat that up). And their samosas are hearty yet surprisingly light at the same time. They use good quality ingredients and it shows. We love their gulab jamun to finish off a meal. The dal tadka is a bit inconsistent but with so much else going for it who cares? Oh and the pakora (both vegetable and chicken) are wonderful bites of flavor. SERVICE: Since we only started coming in Covid times, we have an actually been to the restaurant but they always package our food nicely and it always arrives hot and fresh. It's hard to ask for much more than that. COST: If there is any flaws, it would be in the cost range. But for good Indian food this place is charging about what other places charge. So even though prices are always a bit high, the food itself is definitely worth it! We wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't. (Customer experience during Covid-19 Pandemic) My momo craving hit recently, so I went to where I was familiar. While standing in front of their window studying their menu, I saw their sign to please phone in your order. So I called and while making my selection and going back and forth about a couple of things. She said it would be about 20 minutes and I could pay when I came back, so we waved to each other and I went for a quick market trip to Andronico's up the street. I ordered all Nepalese dishes - Chicken momo, Khasi ko masu, Veggie chow mein, Pumpkin chicken curry. Also ordered garlic naan and rice. I would normally ask for it to be spicy hot instead of medium, but when I'm sharing with my husband he can no longer tolerate the heat. Everything was still delish. Momo are best when they are just out of the steamer. We had a 20 minute drive back home so they suffered a little, but were still tasty, especially with their sauce. The Kashi ko masu was pretty bony, but the sauce is full of flavour and excellent over rice. We also enjoyed the pumpkin chicken curry. Large cubes of pumpkin and plenty of boneless chicken was also quite flavourful. The spicing on the chow mein was different from anything I'd had before. It seemed a bit dry but I don't have anything to compare it to. I thought the naan was overcooked. The flavours were good but it was also a bit dry and tough. When I picked up my order, everything was packed tightly into the bag. I was a little concerned because I have had takeaway orders packed in similar fashion and they have tipped over on the drive home. Hubby secured the bag between his legs so if they did leak, it would just be on the floor mat and not all over the seat and his lap. It was extremely gratifying to see that all the food was well packed and not a precious drop of sauce escaped their containers. That is a big hurrah! I noted that Covid protocols were observed throughout my transaction. There was another worker in the dining room and they were both masked up. I also noted there was hand sanitizer in the dining room, not necessarily available to customers, though. I would still feel comfortable ordering food from here. read more

Today is Vietnam War Veterans Day.. My beautiful wife is so sweet always remembering to take me out to a new restaurant and we just enjoy our company together and good food and are our friendship that we share so closely. She's a beautiful soul and takes care of this whole veteran very well. Practice makes perfect. This is a family run operation and everyone in the family works here and makes everything from scratch daily. That's why the food is so incredibly good on so many different levels you have to eat here to understand that no 2 sauces will be alike on your table. Rita our server was so wonderfully helpful to us interpreting their large and beautiful menu. They have so many items I have never seen before that the explanations were necessary. I'm glad the rush hadn't started so she could explain the nuances of all the beautiful details of the dishes we ordered. There was just the 2 of us but we ordered enough for 4 people because we wanted to have food for lunch tomorrow to take with us. We ordered Dal Bhat Tarkari Which is a classic napoli's style dish served with lentils steamed bus muddy rice and AA curry it comes out on a tray with bread rice and a soup as well it's absolutely delicious. The next thing we ordered was onion naan bread which is interesting because they offer at least 10 to 15 different types of this kind of bread. Then we ordered the Chana pumpkin. This is an Nepali garbanzo bean cooked with pumpkin and house blend of spices stew. Then we ordered the Royal Himalayan Pioneer. It has Indian cheese cooked with the mix of creamy tika masala sauce and curry sauce blended together in wonderfulness fullness. And our last dish was festival momo. It's steamed mixed vegetable and paneer dumping Served with homemade dipping sauce. Of course I had to wash it down with some of the Flying Horse Lager from India. My wife and I thought the entire experience was worth 5 stars. The service was sweet and honest and informative. We were made to feel comfortable and welcome. I ordered delivery via yelp and was really happy with everything. I ordered the chicken momo (spicy), lamb momo (spicy), garlic naan, and lamb korma (very spicy). The spicy level was not very hot for the momos, but I loved the kick that the "very spicy" level had. Each order of momo came with 9 pieces. As far as the naan, it was cut into 4 large pieces. Pros: -food was delivered relatively quickly and came nice and hot -food was delicious! My favorite was the lamb momo, but everything was flavorful. Cons: -delivery didn't come with utensils. What a lovely restaurant! I've only recently started eating more Nepalese food since moving to the Bay Area, so while I'm no expert, the dishes here were fresh, delicious, and incredibly filling. We came for lunch on a slow day and there was only one other person during the hour who dined in. Our server was kind and attentive, routinely filling our waters while also giving us a lot of privacy. We ordered the Chicken Momo to start, and I totally underestimated how filling it'd be! I probably would've only ordered a small dish afterwards if I knew, but instead I got the Himalayan Biryani (a mix of chicken, lamb, fish, and shrimp) which came in an incredibly generous portion for $19.99. I enjoyed the fish and shrimp the most. The Iced Chai was also delicious and creamy. I probably would've stuck to water or tea if I'd known how filling everything else would be, but it's definitely a nice treat if you're craving something cold and sweet. read more

We had the goat curry which goes by its native name, lamb momos and a plate chicken biryani, all shared family style. The food was delicious! I started with the Vegetable Samosas and the seasoning was great! I love the tamarind and green sauces that go with it. The Garlic Cheese Naan was the best I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked with lots of cheese inside and just the right amount of garlic. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also excellent. The chicken was not over cooked and the sauce was prefect. I got it spicy, which was not very spicy for me, but it had just the right heat. Again, the consistency and flavor were perfect. I ate way too much but I couldn't stop myself it was so good and it can be hard to find great Indian food. Next time I'm up here, I'll have to try the Nepalese food. read more

Ordered samosa chat and veg pakora. Samosa chat looked like it had all the necessary ingredients and smelled great but tasted sour. Major imbalance of flavors. The chickpeas weren't cooked at all and yes it was dumped straight out the can! That's not how you do samosa chat! You're suppose to cook the chickpeas in blends of spices and curry. Thus, samosa chat was a fail! Veg pakora was soggy, lacked salt and crispness. However, the imlee and mint sauce that came with it made up for the lack of salt. Returning quickly to the samosa, the outside was flaky and light, and the inside was packed with soft and rich potato. The whole dish was unbelievably light, that even after eating two samosas, it wasn't weighing heavily on my stomach. It was a memorable samosa. Onto the main experience, we went at the dinner hour for a relative's birthday dinner, since they love curry dishes. For the dinner, we decided to try new dishes, so we ordered the Daal Tadka, the vegetable Pakora, the chicken momos, and the vegetable chow mein. The pakora arrived first, then the chow mein, and then the Daal Tadka and momos came afterward. Later, we also ordered a plain naan because the Daal Tadka needed the naan to scoop up the different curries and soups. Every dish was so good, it brought up a smile upon our faces. There was a pleasant wow factor in each dish that left a lasting impression even as I write this review a day later. I was surprised with the chow mein for one because it was a taste that is usually accompanied by any chow mein in most Chinese stores. It taste was strong and vibrant like soy sauce, but there was something different about it. It also reminded me of tomato. Whatever it is, we cleaned up the plate easily. I also enjoyed the pakora; a great dish to start the dinner. It had a crispy texture and the vegetables were sweet. The momos were juicy and the skin was thick but chewy. I would warn others to eat these momos early on. We left them, so we can eat them periodically, but once they turned cold the skin was harder to cut with a fork. These dumplings also pack a lot of punch in stomach volume, so one will get full pretty fast. The final icing on the cake was that the prices are extremely reasonable. My family was very content and full in their stomachs, and the prices were less than ordering a ramen bowl each in the city. We were very happy of the dinner experience. read more

I was wondering why I liked this place so much, and then I discovered the owner also operates the genuinely appetizing Mount Everest on Telegraph Avenue south of the UC campus (review: http://bit.ly/2SzdByW). I still dream of their chicken momos. Clearly the same quality of ingredients and recipes are going into both operations, and I could certainly tell from what I ordered here. They offer a lunch special menu seven days a week from 11 to 3. That's like every day. Consistency is so underrated. I tried the $9.99 Pumpkin Chicken lunch special. I wouldn't go again. Apparently they have a farm but the salad was so old and limp with dry carrot bits it definitely looked like prepackaged salad. And the tables were sticky with food leftover from previous diners. How are they getting such good reviews?
