We had to be towed because the jeep would not start, and we didn't know the area so we relied on the tow truck driver for advice. He told us Hale's was a reliable family owned facility. The jeep was dropped off about 8:00 at night, and the tow driver took us to a nearby hotel. Hale's called early the next morning and we discussed the issue we were having. They took a few hours to check things over, and called with an estimate of cost and time. They said they would get on it right away because we were traveling through. The jeep was ready to go the following morning. However- less than 2 months later the starter went out again! My local repair shop fixed it (for about the same price and timing as we paid at Hale's.) I contacted Hale's about their warranty, and shipped the bad starter to them on a Friday morning. The following Tuesday I received a call from Hale's confirming that they would reimburse me for the total amount of the second repair, plus the parts and shipping cost to return the old starter. While I would have preferred not to have had two starter replacements in 2 months, Hale's lived up to their claim of "The Best Warranty in Marion!"

This place took two weeks to initially fix my car, messed up my radio, charged $129 for a single…read morerear light bulb replacement, and couldn't even install a windshield wiper properly the first time. In total, they overcharged me by about $435 in phony labor costs, including: 0.8 hours, or 48 minutes, just for a rear light bulb replacement, 1 hour for an oil change that shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, 1 hour for spark plugs that shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes to replace, 1 hour for a transmission drain and fill on a v4 that shouldn't take more than 45 minutes, etc. I had to take the car back to reprogram a Tire Pressure Monitor System unit that they didn't program properly the first time and to attempt to reflash a radio that they screwed up when replacing the Body Control Module. The fixed the TPMS unit but not the radio. Then I had to take back the car again to fix a slapping windshield wiper. Then I had to take back the car a third time to replace a rear light bulb that they never caught on a full inspection, and I was charged $129 for. I thought that perhaps a socket was corroded or there was wiring work needed, but no, it was .8 hours of labor work (48 minutes) for labor that probably took 5 minutes. (Even worse, I specifically stated to Taylor that if a bulb was burned out on the left side of the vehicle that Hale's should replace the right side too to save on labor costs. Then when I called to pick up the car, they didn't tell me the price over the phone and Taylor stated that she "believed" that bulbs on both sides were replaced. When I brought up the discrepancy in person, she said that I would need another labor charge just go fix their error that they already charged me $129 for.) If all that wasn't enough, I actually had to call them twice for a pickup the first time they fixed the car because the driver didn't show up after 45 minutes. This review wouldn't post on Google reviews (which is constantly censored now), so I'm posting it here.

I took my 2005 Ford Escape in for rebuild July 2 2015 and was given a 3 yr warranty. I took my car…read morein on May 24, 2018 with reports that I had lost reverse and the other gears begin slipping. I received my car back on June 13 and was told the seal had been replaced. I return the car back to the shop on June 18 with reports that the slipping continued. I picked up the car, for the second time on June 27, being told that the bands had been adjusted. On June 28 , while driving on interstate 57, the transmission had a complete blowout, less than 24 hours after I pick it up from the shop. I called Clay's transmission and he told me to have it towed in there and He would see what was going on. The tow bill was $126. Six weeks later, on August 13, I receive my car back for the third time, having been told that the transmission had been completely re-built. I drove the car to St. Louis and back to Southern Illinois. When I parked the car everything had run fine. However, when I started the car up, there was a a clanking noise under the hood. I immediately shut the car off. My 32yr old son got out and looked under the car and had me restart it, the clanging noise stopped and one of the transmission bolts had fallen out. It was stripped and bent. I returned the car to clays Where he told me he could see oil leaking out and they would look at it again. August 22 I returned my car to the shop for the fourth time. It was not available to pick up until after Labor Day. When I picked up the car, the owner and I discussed the tow bill. After going back and forth he finally agreed he would pay the tow bill. It is now November 2. I called my towing company, who said clays transmission had called him and said he would be sending a check in the mail, but they had never received it. I contacted clays transmission and spoke with the owner who told me once again, " I will take care of it, but it just slipped my mind" I'm giving this company a 2 rating because they can do good transmission repair, but 1. The tow bill hasn't been taken care of and it had been 2 months since I picked up my car 2. The stripped transmission bolt was shoddy workmanship( it had been taken in and out too many times. 3. The drivers window will only go halfway down now, ( this happens because the door gets slammed to hard and breaks the plastic pieces on the inside. 4. I have not received one piece of paper ( receipt) showing the work done on my car. Now it's August 2019 and guess what!!!! My transmission slipping going into 3rd gear. I've babied this car so much trying to get it to last as long as possible. The other update is once I contacted the Better business bureau 3 months after I had gotten my car back, Scott( the manager of clays transmission ) did go over and take car of the tow bill.

I don't recommend this place. They say they will have your car done in X amount of days. I call for…read morean update "Oh it'll be done next week" 1 month later, they still have my car. Very aggravating.
