I store my boat at the Narrows Marina for the winter and get these guys to winterize and do the maintenance so it is ready to go in the Spring.

I've been to Point Defiance Marina quite a few times and especially when we were new to the area…read more Steve and I walked all the way from Owen Beach to the marina a number of times and always enjoyed the walk and view. You can see Vashon Island and it's ferry, Mount Rainier on some days and even some aquatic life in Puget Sound like jellyfish and seals. Some time passed where we finally went into the boathouse and even though we don't own a boat (and don't intend to) or are into fishing we still found lots of merchandise that we found and Steve even bought a t-shirt so there is a wide variety of merchandise to check out. There is a restaurant tucked down here we should check out sometime, an Anthony's restaurant that we will perhaps go to sometime also.

They have a variety of fishing equipment, snacks, sandwiches, and really cute clothing/décor. The marina itself has several activities to do. They offer boat and kayak rentals - the boats come from the Boathouse store and the kayaks come from wayyy down on Owen beach. For those that like to fish there is an area off the pier that allows you to do so and there's a fish cleaning station nearby. If you have a boat there are drive up and hand launch areas to get you in the water and moorage is available with gas and pumpout on site. From a walking stand point: great place to see sea life, close to the ferry, and an all around lovely place to get some fresh air!

But g*d damn 6 months later after having to rent a truck and a bike for a vacation I finally cotrner him at his shop, get my keys, and see most of my crate motor was gone, the new Black Rhino wheels, recaro seats , Memphis audio, and carbon hood were gone , As well as my pain prescriptions that were in the console, Bike And trailer .. gone and they were in the shop the entire time . I went by every couple days and never saw it outside .good to see this p.o.s. thief is no longer in Navy Yard City. An absolutely worthless m.f.er. He took so much of my money and parts from my baby, and my bike I had gotten from my best friends sister after he passed and a borrowed trailer. And put broken and stolen garbage in my my truck, and took so many of my things out of it , while it was in his yard. And then

Matt was able to pinpoint a major grounding issue with the Magnum power inverter as well as correcting a list of electrical hazards noted on our recent survey. Matt also installed/wired-in a new iMux from Brookstone, Horizon Matrix AIS 2150 VHF & our existing Garmin GPS to be used for delivering wifi connectivity to our iPad. The entire nav station was a rat's nest of "home made" variety that Matt had to sort out & correct. His work is impeccable! I would recommend Petrel Marine to anyone needing a marine electrician. He was timely, competent, reasonably priced & great to be around as I worked on other areas of the boat. Got a kick out of his UK accent!

He thoroughly tested the batteries and determined that only 1/4 was still functioning within acceptable parameters. He then not only offered me a number of different options for replacement/upgrade of the existing batteries, but also educated me pretty thoroughly on the relative benefits and drawbacks of each option. In addition to replacing the old lead acid batteries to AGMs, he also installed a new 40 amp charger (the old one was 20 amps) to help take advantage of how much faster AGMs can be charged than conventional lead acid marine batteries. He also installed 2 Xantrex LinkPro battery monitors, so that I can keep track of my draw on both banks and avoid discharging my batteries to the point where I won't be able to start my engines (and also won't be severely lessening the useful life of my new batteries by overdraining them). Next I plan to have him install an alarm that will sound in the cabin when the batteries are drained below 50% capacity. I am also having him swap some of the boat's accessories from one battery bank to another so that both banks draw more equally under normal use. We also plan to install an automatic starter for the generator, controlled by the battery monitors, that will activate the gen-set at 60% capacity, charging them back to 85%, so that I can stay out on the water indefinitely without ever having to worry about being stranded by drained batteries, all the while treating my brand-new AGMs in the best possible way to make them last for many years to come. I was thoroughly impressed with Matt's responsiveness (virtually instantaneous, whereas I've waited days and even weeks for other marine professionals to respond to my inquiries). Although this is the busiest time of the year for folks who work on boats, he was able to fit my project in a few days after we first spoke. He was very upfront and accurate about the estimated cost and he came in right on budget, despite running into a few complications along the way. All-in-all I couldn't be more pleased with Matt and Petrel Marine. I recommend him without reservation to anyone looking for help with marine electrical/electronics!
