Then, they requested that we change insurance for my kids in order to keep services, but without behavior technicians. They also failed to maintain services until we fully transitioned to a new company. I am very frustrated with this company. Don't waste your time because they lack professionalism and fail to fulfill the basics.

Our ASD Story: We have a now 3 1/2 year old who was diagnosed Autism a little after his 2nd birthday. And of course being first time parents we were totally overwhelmed and scared about our new path that we were being placed on. As many of you who are going through the evaluation process it is hard on the parents. This was the same for us. Not knowing how to decide what services to use, or methods to implore left us feeling extremely underqualified as parents. We didn't know what to do or who to turn to. Luckily San Diego County does have very good recourses for those effected by developmental differences. After diagnosis through the San Diego County Regional Center system we were assigned to the ABAcus team as our service providers. Boy can I tell you this was the best thing that could have happened to our family. When we first meet the wonderful folks at ABAcus my sweet boy seemed to lost in his own world. He would not respond to his name, make eye contact, and had lost any language that he had learned in the first few months of his life, just to name a few of his quirks. But when we look at my boy now I am truly amazed by his accomplishments and growth. He now will make and maintain eye contact (even if it's only a few seconds - progress is progress), will respond to his name, and is growing his language every day. And I mean every day - We do ABA Mon-Fri. NONE of this would have been possible without ABAcus. We have two service providers and a supervisor that regularly work with my kiddo, and let me you how amazing they are. They are patient yet firm. They are ALWAYS evaluating his goals to make sure that he is getting as much out of our time together as possible, and it shows. I can tell that they really care about my son and my family. Not only to they care about my son's growth and progress, they also take the time to help us learn the skills we need to help our son succeed. If you are looking for an ABA provider you should definitely give ABAcus a try. They have given us back the ray of light and for that I cannot ever really express how grateful I am for ABAcus, and the folks make it as amazing at it is....

From the director down they know and live what they are share. That being said it wasn't all rainbows and lollipops in the beginning issues came up personality conflict, skaters, a narcissist, sprinkle a little bigotry and toss in some good of fashion drama and that describes every addict I have ever meet. "Hurt people, hurt people" The Way Back isn't that run of the mill treatment facility it is a home and the staff treat you like family. They are caring and fair. Not stupid or nieve you can't get on over on them. You get out what you put it. If you want help and are willing to put in the work they are all in on giving the space and support you will need to get it right. I'll say this if you are looking to just get the legal system off your back and you are not ready to change don't take a bed in this house you can take up space somewhere else there is a waitlist and t People who need and want it it's ok not to be ready when your are circle back they will have open arms ready for you

But after realizing over a period of time that they are nowhere near what I thought, I'm updating the experience. (Although I still don't believe the previous review about sage and still think he was covering his actions) They allow people to drink and when asked say "we know who's doing what" nonchalantly. That's pretty wild. They allow people to stay in the program even when they are found with drugs AND high. They will only allow someone to stay if they can sweep it under the rug. If it's a big show and cops or any other public incident they will make you leave and discharge you and threaten to get you in trouble. I genuinely had SUCH high hopes. But they don't treat patients/clients equally. They allow counselors to break HIPAA, twist peoples words, and talk about personal things that shouldn't be discussed in a work or professional environment. Adult topics specifically to clients families. Inappropriate! They don't even give warnings or tell you that you might be kicked out for something that is beyond your control. They expect you to just know. They allow families to come by and drop off clothes, supplies, etc but then they'll suddenly switch up and say you could be bringing drugs and use that as a final reason to discharge you. They allow weapons on the property (or just don't pay attention when someone brings a weapon, either way NEGLIGENCE) to the extent that people get injured. When told about a relapse, they literally can and do just sweep it right under the rug. And then since they don't document things like that if they choose not to, the director basically calls you a liar. Fortunately I documented every single incident and issue. Crazy. 3 of the counselors are great. But higher ups and the other half of the staff need to figure out what consistency, fairness, and professionalism in a healthcare setting means. If you come here, you could probably get away with just about anything as long as they can pretend it didn't happen I am not only filing a grievance, but reporting them to CDPH, DMHC, DOI, DHCS. Especially the last one (department of healthcare services).

One of the most concerning issues is the lack of communication and transparency. Employees often receive no notice when clients cancel sessions, resulting in wasted trips and unpaid time. In such cases, you're either told to clean the facility (an unreasonable expectation outside the role of a Behavior Technician) or you're abruptly reassigned to cover another BT's session without context or consent. The pay is among the lowest in the ABA field, especially when weighed against the emotional and physical demands of the job. The work environment is poorly maintained, with cleanliness being a recurring problem. The facility does NOT look like those posted online. The children's bathrooms and common areas are often unsanitary, raising valid concerns about hygiene, safety, and the general quality of care. A particularly troubling practice is the use of personal items like wipes brought in for one child that get used on other children, without the caregiver's knowledge. Additionally, BTs are often left in the dark about health-related issues like lice until after the situation is already "handled," which puts both staff and other clients at risk. Unsurprisingly, the company suffers from a very high turnover rate, which reflects the broader issues within the organization and further destabilizes the workplace. Overall, they show little regard for employee well-being, professional development, or proper client care. Even by looking at the reviews the only 5 star reviews are for speech therapists, not from the work being done!

They then recommended a neuro evaluation, which I agreed to, even though it's not really a concern of ours. They said they would write up a care plan and schedule a neuro evaluation as well as a speech evaluation (also video visits). These were scheduled two months out - and the confirmation emails didn't mention speech anywhere - just neuro evals. Since we only need speech therapy, I wanted to get clarification that at least one of these next two evals was for speech. I reached out via phone (twice) and message to verify, and they never responded. I got the first bill of $390 for the initial video consult. I'm sure the next two would have been another $390 each, and who knows when the actual, in-person speech therapy would have even started? I cancelled both and reached out to a free provider in San Diego recommended by our school. He is now scheduled for an in-person therapy session less than a month out. In my opinion, it seems like Cortica is more focused on generating revenue from parents via multiple (pointless) video visits rather than getting kids the help they need. The reviews make sense now!
