Then, they requested that we change insurance for my kids in order to keep services, but without behavior technicians. They also failed to maintain services until we fully transitioned to a new company. I am very frustrated with this company. Don't waste your time because they lack professionalism and fail to fulfill the basics.

Well, what can I say about ABAcus? Probably too many amazing things to fit in this review. But…read moremaybe I can express how much they have helped my family and I know they can help yours too. Our ASD Story: We have a now 3 1/2 year old who was diagnosed Autism a little after his 2nd birthday. And of course being first time parents we were totally overwhelmed and scared about our new path that we were being placed on. As many of you who are going through the evaluation process it is hard on the parents. This was the same for us. Not knowing how to decide what services to use, or methods to implore left us feeling extremely underqualified as parents. We didn't know what to do or who to turn to. Luckily San Diego County does have very good recourses for those effected by developmental differences. After diagnosis through the San Diego County Regional Center system we were assigned to the ABAcus team as our service providers. Boy can I tell you this was the best thing that could have happened to our family. When we first meet the wonderful folks at ABAcus my sweet boy seemed to lost in his own world. He would not respond to his name, make eye contact, and had lost any language that he had learned in the first few months of his life, just to name a few of his quirks. But when we look at my boy now I am truly amazed by his accomplishments and growth. He now will make and maintain eye contact (even if it's only a few seconds - progress is progress), will respond to his name, and is growing his language every day. And I mean every day - We do ABA Mon-Fri. NONE of this would have been possible without ABAcus. We have two service providers and a supervisor that regularly work with my kiddo, and let me you how amazing they are. They are patient yet firm. They are ALWAYS evaluating his goals to make sure that he is getting as much out of our time together as possible, and it shows. I can tell that they really care about my son and my family. Not only to they care about my son's growth and progress, they also take the time to help us learn the skills we need to help our son succeed. If you are looking for an ABA provider you should definitely give ABAcus a try. They have given us back the ray of light and for that I cannot ever really express how grateful I am for ABAcus, and the folks make it as amazing at it is....

Despite the important work being done in the ABA field, the company consistently fails to support…read moreits employees in meaningful or sustainable ways. One of the most concerning issues is the lack of communication and transparency. Employees often receive no notice when clients cancel sessions, resulting in wasted trips and unpaid time. In such cases, you're either told to clean the facility (an unreasonable expectation outside the role of a Behavior Technician) or you're abruptly reassigned to cover another BT's session without context or consent. The pay is among the lowest in the ABA field, especially when weighed against the emotional and physical demands of the job. The work environment is poorly maintained, with cleanliness being a recurring problem. The facility does NOT look like those posted online. The children's bathrooms and common areas are often unsanitary, raising valid concerns about hygiene, safety, and the general quality of care. A particularly troubling practice is the use of personal items like wipes brought in for one child that get used on other children, without the caregiver's knowledge. Additionally, BTs are often left in the dark about health-related issues like lice until after the situation is already "handled," which puts both staff and other clients at risk. Unsurprisingly, the company suffers from a very high turnover rate, which reflects the broader issues within the organization and further destabilizes the workplace. Overall, they show little regard for employee well-being, professional development, or proper client care. Even by looking at the reviews the only 5 star reviews are for speech therapists, not from the work being done!

My kiddo started autism-related therapies (behavioral, speech, and occupational) whenhe was 2, so prior to Cortica we had a couple of years experience with other providers. From our experience, one of the biggest strengths of Cortica is that it offers a comprehensive set of services under one house - prior to Cortica, we had different providers providing different services, so there was an obvious communication gap across teams. Additionally, there were several services that we weren't doing prior to becoming clients. To expand, we currently use Cortica for the following: Family Counseling (for parents), Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Group (for kiddo), ABA Therapy, and Music Therapy. In the recent past, we were doing Neurofeedback Therapy - it did not seem to have any notable impact, so consulting with the staff, we decided to stop. We also had a meeting with Dr. Shapiro regarding TVNS and under his consult, we decided it probably wasn't necessary. We had a couple of bio-medical consults, but we haven't been successful in being consistent with supplements (this is really our fault here). In the near future, we are planning to attend the once-a-month Parent's Group at Cortica. In respect to quality of care provided, from our experience, it's been very good all around. Cortica's ABA is different from what we were used to - it's not reward based, rather it's based in the methods described in Spectacular Bond book (sorry, it's a bit hard for me to succinctly describe). In respect to speech and fine & gross motor skills, we have seen our kiddo progress at a good and steady rate - he's still got a long ways to go, but we're seeing him grow. Also, our family counselor has been great and an integral component in everything. She not only listens to personal issues, but also helps us plan and process anything related to our kiddo's development. To re-iterate, she's been integral for us. We've met with Dr. Goh a handful of times and we've always found Dr. Goh to be personable and approachable. We haven't had a need to meet with her often, since the personnel that we've worked with has been solid and helpful. We haven't really experienced a turnover staff problem like we had in the past with previous providers. For instance, we've had a couple of the same ABA therapist for our entire duration with Cortica. I would say scheduling and re-scheduling (e.g., school year, summer) is more an issue. This probably has to do with a supply and demand with resources, I would guess. Last note, I really get a good "team" sense from Cortica, that encompasses my family and Cortica. And I think that's partly due to my wife and I's level of engagement and also Cortica's philosophy on how things should run, which of course is displayed in the staff we work with.

My 4-yo son needs speech therapy. Cortica is in network. Scheduled the first evaluation meeting…read morewhich was a video visit. They asked if he has trouble concentrating - I said yes. They then recommended a neuro evaluation, which I agreed to, even though it's not really a concern of ours. They said they would write up a care plan and schedule a neuro evaluation as well as a speech evaluation (also video visits). These were scheduled two months out - and the confirmation emails didn't mention speech anywhere - just neuro evals. Since we only need speech therapy, I wanted to get clarification that at least one of these next two evals was for speech. I reached out via phone (twice) and message to verify, and they never responded. I got the first bill of $390 for the initial video consult. I'm sure the next two would have been another $390 each, and who knows when the actual, in-person speech therapy would have even started? I cancelled both and reached out to a free provider in San Diego recommended by our school. He is now scheduled for an in-person therapy session less than a month out. In my opinion, it seems like Cortica is more focused on generating revenue from parents via multiple (pointless) video visits rather than getting kids the help they need. The reviews make sense now!

They were polite, but the sessions felt very scripted and a bit robotic, which made it hard to connect. After that, I was reassigned to a therapist named Rita. I really wanted to give it a fair shot, but I often left sessions feeling like I wasn't fully heard or understood. At times, the tone felt a bit judgmental, even if that may not have been the intention, and it made it hard to feel comfortable opening up. Eventually, I was told that my symptoms had improved and that I might not need to continue therapy. When I shared that I still felt like I needed support, the response came across as somewhat dismissive rather than collaborative. After a while of feeling misunderstood, I ended up canceling a few sessions and eventually stopped going. About nine months later, I decided to try again and requested a new therapist since Rita was no longer there. I came in feeling hopeful, but the experience quickly took a turn. I was matched with Gabriella, and early in the session she focused heavily on my past cancellations, even though I explained they were due to not feeling heard before. She also mentioned concerns about me potentially being "dependent" on therapy because I've been in therapy for several years, which didn't feel fair or accurate to me. I tried to express that I wasn't feeling a good connection and that the approach felt more like an interrogation than a supportive conversation. Instead of things improving, I felt more uncomfortable, to the point where I became emotional and asked to end the session early. I've been to different therapists and mental health facilities before, so I understand that not every match will be perfect. But this experience stood out in a negative way. It didn't feel like a safe or welcoming space to be vulnerable, and that's really the most important part of therapy.

This review comes after a 2 month attempt to get ALP to communicate with Easter Seals to resume service for my child. After being convinced to put my child back on Kaiser insurance (he needed aba at school, state funded insurance doesn't cover) I went through a 60 day process of my child being re evaluated, and services being interrupted all so ALP can bill the higher payer, even though my child has dual coverage. After WEEKS of this, finally get the ball rolling with Easter Seals , and surprise! ALP has went ghost! Their own business partner Easter Seals had to report to me that they had received ZERO feedback when they reached out to resume services for my child. As of today we are going on 4 months without aba services , being forced to find a new provider and failed attempts to get my childs records from them. Today, another attempt to obtain my childs record were made. I will provide an update with the outcome .
