They have only 1 worker on a Sunday afternoon. These is a long line of cars around the corner. Swamped with customers inside too. Bathroom "out of order" which translate to we don't want to clean the bathroom so it's closed to public. The custard is great, but this location wreaks of bad management. read more

Absolutely would avoid. My daughter (12) ordered a chocolate Oreo flurrie and the server (Ann or something) made a vanilla Oreo flurrie. Honest mistake, but when we brought it to the servers attention she became defensive, demanded we pay another $7 for a replacement, said it was a big waste, claimed my daughter asked for an "Oreo McFlurry" and generally made us feel like garbage just for asking for what we ordered. Honestly the scene was surreal. What made the situation even better was the mustached overweight thirty something man-child wearing shorts and a backward baseball cap behind us getting aggressive about it just being "ice-cream" and then doing the high-school bully stare down. This is not necessarily a review for the location but for Abbot's itself. I had no problem with this location. They had a drive in window which I found shocking. The ice cream was a bit soft today so I had to lick fast haha. I should have grabbed extra napkins. As a child going to the Charlotte Beach Abbot's is one of my most cherished memories. I can see the lake off in the distance. The sound of the carousel. The sign from the Penny Arcade and wondering how cool it must be to play asteroids for only a penny :) The bottom line is that Abbot's is a Rochester institution. The creamy chocolate custard with the salty almonds might be one of the world's greatest treats. The prices keep going up but people keep paying because it is that good. I have gotten sundaes and shakes. They have branched out and added new flavors but in the end the plain vanilla or chocolate speak for themselves. Add the almonds and you are on cloud nine. I moved away from home long ago but an Abbot's cone brings me back to that feeling of Rochester in the summer and childhood innocence. Isn't it amazing how food can do that? read more

Nice place, right across from the beach on Canandaigua Lake. The homemade waffle cones and generous single scoops were a hit with the family. The stand out flavor was the chocolate almond. First, Abbot's custard is always a treat. We stopped last night (9/18/21) even though the store was "ringed" by cars waiting for the drive through. When we went in, we and others waiting in the store, were shocked to see a teenaged girl employee, alone, and struggling to fill orders. No one else was there to help her as she alternated between taking and preparing both inside orders and the cars pulling up to the drive through. Where was her help? Where were the owners? Sheer exhaustion aside, what about the safety aspect of leaving a young girl alone to deal with customers? To her credit, she gamely ran back and forth doing the work of at least two workers as politely and quickly as she could. Those of us in the store could see the situation and either ordered simple items (tipped well), or left, while muttering that the owners should be both ashamed and ON SITE to offer help and insure her safety. NYS employment agencies should take note. Our wait was about 15 minutes BTW. Custard- excellent, but situation- FAIL. read more

I had mint oreo... and it was creamy and delicious with lots (!!!) of oreo chunks (yay... not just crumbs) in a tasty minty base. This location is in a strip plaza with limited indoor and outdoor seating... and no ambience... but the custard still tastes great. read more

This was a last minute impulse stop after a friend from Rochester had mentioned that Abbott's makes great custard the day before. WOW. I made a horrible life choice in not getting the banana custard because I was afraid it would taste like banana flavored chemicals; I couldn't have been more wrong. My friend let me taste her's and it tasted like fresh mashed bananas in custard form. Then again, choosing the chocolate almond wasn't necessarily a poor life choice (it was delicious), just not as different as banana custard would have been. The custard is good, the sherbert is good, the staff works out well too. But to be honest, there was nothing too special about it. I could not tell the difference from the frozen custard and a good ice cream. When it comes to dessert however, maybe that is all you need, something familiar and good. I love Abbott's! Stopped for a cone two weeks ago and decided on the chocolate almond because they were out of the salty caramel. And of course, in a sprinkle waffle cone. Amazing choice! So many huge chunks of salty almonds that paired so well with the sweet, creamy chocolate. Now this is my second time to this location. Memorial Day weekend we stopped at the new shop next to the lake. I ordered a small sprinkle cone and it was definitely 2x the size of the small cone I received at this location. Maybe it's because the location by the lake just opened? Or the girl messed up? Anyway I'll be back all summer to both locations. read more

I have loved going to Abbotts in Canandaigua over the years, but so far this year I am completely disappointed! The first two times we went they were out of several toppings. The third time we went I barely got any topping on my custard. I'm hoping that it gets better...otherwise they've lost a customer. read more
