Which is fine. The lovely lady at the brew station brought water to the dogs immediately once I ordered and was so eager to say hello to them. Beer is good. They let you taste it first. I made the mistake of not doing so and the Hefeweizen was a little hoppier than my wife likes but I downed it. I didn't mind. I'm too hot to take pictures. We loved their pumpkin beer. Stopped in for my first time while visiting for the weekend. Cute little place. The lake is beautiful. Ordered a tropical sunset, and he some beer on tap. I needed a little snack so ordered the artichoke dip and chips. Ehh the dip was bland but my drink was amazing. Wished the dip had a little more flavor to it but for $12 we ate it and didn't want to waste it. Probably just coming back for drinks if we are in town again. Staff was nice. Overpriced and underwhelming. Got here on a Monday afternoon. Place was empty.It was also very smoky. For some reason the only cold air was a window a/c pumping in smoke from outside. Hot as hell inside. Ordered a chicken pesto with bacon, cheese and mushrooms sandwhich. Chicken was dry and very small and thin. No taste of pesto at all, bacon was overcooked and small pieces. Canned mushrooms, yuck. For a $16 for a sandwich it was not good. Hubs ordered the beef on a weck. Bun was small, meat portion small but tasty beef. My friend ordered a BLT. Her bacon was small pieces also overcooked Mac salad was made with sweet relish. Yuck. All meals served on disposable cardboard bowls. Plastic silverware. For the price we paid, should be real.plates, silver and glasses. Overpriced beer. But a large selection of beers. Watered down iced tea served in a plastic. Cup, yuck again. Had to.order at the bar and pick it up ourself. Then the nerve to ask.for a tip for no table service at all. Dining room chairs are HARD metal chairs that were terribly uncomfortable. This was our "night out" visiting the area for the first time. While the menu was small but adequate. Both of us had roast beef sandwiches. Totally recommend the roast beef! Initially I thought the beers were not that good but apparently they just should not be sampled immediately after eating horseradish. lol After my palate had cleansed a bit, they were more true to taste. We enjoy twisted tail, especially in the summer when you can sit lakeside and have good beer. Never disappointed in what's on tap, and love that they have substantive food options. The flatbreads are a great choice and more filling than you'd expect. The upstairs space is a good option to be away from folks during these socially distanced times, though maybe not dusted as often as needed. Recently, I planned a happy hour night here for about 35 people. The owners of this place were incredibly accomodating and hospitable. The upstairs part of the Lakeshore Drive location is a full on party room with foosball, darts and views of Canandaigua Lake. The downstairs is railroad-chic, if you will, with an easy breezy patio space with picnic tables and lake air floating all around you. Pretty magical. The drink prices are crazy cheap. You can get a flight of local beers for $7. The black cherry and pineapple ciders are crowd favorites for about $6. Food options include flatbread pizzas ($9-$10), wraps, paninis, and fingerfoods. Everyone loved the railroad tie pretzel breadsticks. You get four of them for $7 with cheddar cheese dip on the side. So addictive. The new location can't be beat, and it is a place to be proud to have in the area. Definitely a must-stop while you are in Canandaigua. read more

Very clean here. Very nice workers and plenty to choose from to drink, even if you do not drink beer. I'm only giving this place 3 stars, because it was off season, which I get, and they make you order food before you can order your first drink, which I also get, and is fine. We went here on a Saturday at 7:30, so I tried to order food, and they said their kitchen was closed. Again, off season, so I get it. But it was a Saturday night, and found that off-putting. They offered us salsa and chips instead. I will go back though during spring/summer when everything is fully up and running to give it another try though. Very small inside, but very clean everywhere. Patio looks great and can't wait to try, and also plenty of parking. read more

I was warned ahead of time by a friend that the beer and the food weren't good. However there was live music and beautiful views so my husband and I decided to see for ourselves how it was. Awful. I did a flight of beers and one of them tasted like pure hair chemicals to me. That smell that comes from a perm is all I could taste with one of the beers. My husbands beer he gave a 2/10. They were all very bland and had no distinct flavors to them. We love beer and we aren't really picky but these were just bad. We ordered food while there; the pretzels and the spinach artichoke dip. Both were a 3/10. We decided we had made a bad decision and left shortly after. The views of course are beautiful because you're right on canandaigua lake but that's all this place offers. Uh heard music from the street and came in to have a drink and see band. Good vibes for about 20 minutes until a band of 15 or so 12 yr olds who took over the dance floor, scared off a bachelorette party and other guests as they pulled up their shirt and danced like maniacs. They even got up on chairs and when i complained to the bartenders the one said, they're staying here there is nothing we can do. Really?? Meeting up with an old friend, we decided to try a couple of flights and get some food. The beer - they had some good beer, just about the only good thing I can say about them. The service - the bartenders were slow, indifferent, and downright rude to my friend and I. When we sat at the bar there were 2 bartenders working and neither of them acknowledged us. Even after trying to get their attention, they completely ignored me. It was a Sunday, and despite having a group come in right before us, they weren't THAT busy-- I work at a restaurant, our bartenders would NEVER behave the way they did. After putting in an order of spinach dip, the bartender said it would be about half an hour because they had 14 kids orders ahead of us. I asked her if she could bump our order, she just looked at me and scowls. I'm not kidding. The food - the spinach dip was $13 and so disappointing. First off, it was tiny. I mean really small, and the chips were straight from a bag and not even fresh. How something like this could take 30 minutes is beyond me. It was very upsetting. Honestly, this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had, some good beer can't make up for hospitality. My suggestion: buy beer to go, don't eat there, and don't count on the staff for anything. read more

We stopped in for a quick beer on our lake shore bike ride, really impressed with the staff and service. Super friendly and helpful! Then a little later we came back via kayak...after a tip over in the water and digging for a cell phone, they still served me fully clothed but dripping wet because at that point I desperately needed a beer. (My husband even more so as he was mucking around in the shallows digging for my phone) Delicious beer, fun staff and a great spot to stop whether you're coming by land or water. Obviously, the location of Twisted Rail couldn't be better, especially if you consider its downtown Canandaigua premises in addition to its lakefront location. They boast a wide variety of craft ales and IPAs that hit the spot. There was plentiful staff on hand to discuss beer choice if you know a thing or two, or to recommend interesting, quality beers for beginners. They were friendly and interesting to talk to, and seemed well-equipped to deal with all kinds of beer drinkers, from casual to well-traveled. I recommend, above all, the TR Spike Driver IPA and the Ale Abroad APA. Excellent beers for sipping by the lake. We also tried the 50 Shades of Dark- Red, which I highly encourage. Most beers here are extremely affordable- ours were all $6, far less than you'd pay for craft brews at a lot of other places. Best of all is the scenery- there's an outdoor patio overlooking Kershaw Park and the lake where you can see the Canandaigua Lady arrive and depart in the evenings. The indoor seating is great too, though not overly spacious. Definitely would recommend. They don't seem to make a ton of brews themselves (my understanding is they make a few at their downtown location), but there's a definite, rotating selection of taste options to enjoy. It's a quiet place where you can talk about beer if you'd like, but it's also perfect for catching up with a friend and enjoying a nice drink. read more
