I have gotten Abby Jane 31 times in the past 12 months. This place is incredible -- the bread is great, the cookies and baked treats are awesome, and the croissants and pastries are the best in the area IMO. They also happen to have perfect soft serve ice cream for a hot afternoon. The real gem for me is the danish though. They change the flavor every week, and I've had maybe 5 different danishes from here that are tied together for the best baked good I've ever bought. It's great every time and often unique, and I don't know how they manage to find so many delicious combinations. My 3 year old daughter loves to come, they have nice outdoor and indoor seating, and the bathrooms are always clean and kid friendly. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am and there was a short line out the door. The line moves a bit slow, so even though it didn't look like there were a lot of people in front of us, it still took about 20-30 minutes to get through the line. We got an assorment of goodies, but I only got to try the Brown Butter Peach Donut and their Kouign Amann. I can't remember exactly the flavor of the koign amann, but it was really good! It was unique and carried a good citrus flavor - the donut was good too. It was dense and every inch was covered in yummy glaze. There are some small tables inside and outside to enjoy your goodies! Anytime I'm in dripping springs before noon I make haste getting to Abby Jane's Bakeshop. Most of the pastries and bread are made from flour made at the Barton springs mill next door. They are a whole other thing and use mostly local ancient grains etc.. in their flour production. Everything is amazing here and the space is beautiful. They do get a line sometimes and you have to wait but it's well worth it. The star of the show here are the croissant's. I've never had a croissant even come close to the quality of the ones here. I really enjoyed the pastries, treats and drinks, but not the sandwiches. The bread was too dense and thick for me. I wish it was more airy and chewy. I came here first thing this morning when they opened at 9am. Just looking for a little something to have for lunch at work. I decided on a jalapeño and cheese kolache. Also I got the strawberry orange Swiss roll cake. At lunch time, I heated up the kolache for a few minutes in the oven at work. Cut into it, and notice something black in it. I was like, what's black in a jalapeño cheese kolache? I looked back at my pictures, and sure enough, guess what was next to the jalapeño and cheese kolache? Maple & BLUEBERRY! That's what was black. I accidentally got the wrong one. But if you look at my picture you can see they are both side by side. No divider between the two. I'm sure the maple & blueberry fell over on the other side. Or maybe the lady simply grabbed the wrong one. I was bummed not gonna lie, I was looking forward to the jalapeño and cheese. But, it is what it is. So let's talking about what I got. I didn't really taste a sweet maple flavor. And I didn't get any blueberry flavor at all. The actual bread part was good, it was sprinkled with salt and I liked how it all blended together. The meat inside or sausage, I have no idea what the meat is, but it did have a little heat to it. So it was a total loss. I still got my spicy fix. The strawberry orange Swiss roll was really good. the frosting wasn't too sweet. The cake part was just plain flavored. I didn't taste a flavor in the cake. But that strawberry filling. Dang! It almost was like a strawberry rhubarb pie. It was fruit sweet, not sugar sweet. Huge bursting flavor, but also a little tart like rhubarb. I thought it was fabulous. Didn't taste the orange in it. But still, it was very satisfying. Also I got a small chi latte with coconut milk, and that was delicious. Spicy flavor, with a nice coconut flavor from the milk. Also I bought an all purpose flour to make some bread items at home. Certainly don't trust the grocery store flour. If you know, you know. This is a real bakery. Everything is made with high-quality flours from the mill next door, and although the pastry selection leans rustic, the flavors are outstanding. On a Sunday afternoon I picked up an olive sourdough loaf -- $10 for a heavy, freshly baked bread with a wonderfully moist crumb generously studded with green and black olives. For dessert I tried a Texas Pecan Bar ($4.50): a sweet, buttery square packed with fresh nuts. To drink, an unsweetened Chai with coconut milk ($4.50) -- rich, foamy, and genuinely good. We were out in Dripping checking out a wedding venue when I put this place on my "must stop" afterwards; so glad we did! It's adorable, such a cozy little spot! And the staff is so friendly! There was a class going on while we were there which was so intriguing that I found myself looking up their events schedule and am considering signing up for one of their upcoming classes. Loved this spot. A friend told me about it before I came in town and I took one look at the menu and knew I was going to stop in. I preordered online which was quick and easy and got a large variety of items including the Friday only Challah Bread. Out of everything, the favorites were the Cheddar Rosemary Scone, the almond monkey bread, chocolate croissant and the Pecan Bar. The challah bread with a slab of butter was also legendary. So happy that this Louisiana girl has found success in Texas in this cool bakery/coffee shop next to a grain mill! Man I hate to give such a terrible rating for someplace that everyone seems to love, but I hated - absolutely hated my order from this weekend. It was St Pattys day and they had a special Irish Soda Bread so I ordered it and couldn't wait to eat it with our corned beef dinner. My loaf was like a brick - so heavy and dense. It was nothing like any soda bread I've ever had - and I've had it every year for St Pattys day. There was maybe 10 raisins - if that many total in the entire loaf. There should have been so much more. The flavor was off, the heaviness was too much and the lack of raisins or currants was absolutely disappointing. It was also lacking that "soda" bite that you're supposedly to have in the Irish "soda" bread. For a $10 loaf, we are maybe 4 bites before tossing it read more

Somewhat a hidden gem, beyond the road towards Treaty Oak Distillery. After not the greatest experience at Alice's Restaurant, this little stroll accompanied by a baked good was a great way to wrap up this experience. A wide selection of unique choices, as well as traditional bakery go-to's. Amongst the creative (sweeter) goodies were Almond Monkey Bread, a croissant "Tootsie" with Dulce de Leche filling, and the Texan Pecan Cookie Samdwich (see below). Holy deliciousness! Pulling up to a line out the door made complete sense once we were done eating. This organic bakery is in a multi-use space behind Treaty Oak Distillery. They were slammed but didn't let that stop them from greeting customers with a smile. We preordered some brunch treats for 8 people; what we got was like it was for 12 hungry people! A. Coffee was good! And the cream was fresh. B. Quiche was button mushrooms with a crispy cheese crust. I don't even like mushrooms, but the bite of the crust and the creaminess of the eggs made it (and this is very high praise) edible. I'd go back for just the crust. C. Omg, the pastries. The huge, buttery pastries.... Chocolate croissants tasted like a mid-morning dash to the trains outside Geneva: indulgently Swiss with an undeniably romantic French sensibility. The monkey bread with toasted slivered almonds was just different enough from my mother's caramel pecan version that I wanted it all by itself without being overly nostalgic. The pear and white chocolate scones were not too crumbly and naturally sweet. The cinnamon roll did beg to be paired with some juicy raisins or apricots, but the simple frosted version we got was moist, sweet and savory. The vegan bread loaf was simple and paired well with my coffee- making the perfect dunked bite. I'm going back. There are many more things to try! Preordering is the way to go so you can grab and go. Abby Jane Bakeshop was on my Austin Bucket Summer List. After having lunch at brewery nearby my wife and I decided to search for this place. I navigated down a narrow gravel road passing one by my favorite places, Treaty Oak Distilling. I drove by large stacks of oak barrels until I spotted a small building housing the bakery. Aesthetically it does not look much from the outside but inside felt something very special. There was a wall of glass where could see rows of tables where cooking classes are performed, merchandise and different types of flour to purchase, and a selection of baked goods and breads. The staff were busy doing their tasks where I concentrated to what I would select to take home with me. I ordered a Cinnamon Roll, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a Blueberry Muffin. All items were packaged in a compostable containers. Outside we met two ladies who actually traveled here just to come to Abby Jane Bakeshop. I was amazed where we just live down the road and thinking how good could this place be. Once we got home I tasted each item and they were the best pastries I ever had. The Cinnamon Roll was huge and unlike a traditional twirly one where this one looked like a bun. The cookie was also large with bug chunks of chocolate. The muffin had a crispy sugary topping. They all were so delicious with a unique taste probably from the Barton Springs Mill flour. It was all exceptional and wanted more where I can't imagine how the breads must taste like and their cakes. It is definitely worth a drive out here to experience this Hill Country bakery. read more

Most recently I tried a sweet potato scone, pumpkin bread, corndoodle cookie, and cinnamon roll. Allllll of these were so good, reasonably priced, and unique! The bakery itself is modern and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Service is friendly, though a bit slow. Also if you go on a weekend expect a line... I waited about 20 min this past Saturday. Giving this 3 stars. I love the fact they mill their own flour and sell it. The sourdough bread is fine Unfortunately the baked goods were a let down. Not a lot of flavor in them. I see this place as a bread only kind of shop. Croissants, quiche and other French patisserie items are not well done. I also tried the breakfast sandwich. The bread is softer than it looks and the eggs inside are almost custard like. It was interesting, if you like those textures I'd recommend it. It had the most flavor of the day. read more

It's like everything i love about the texas hill country. well, aside from the fact that it's super expensive. it's such a good vibe; the rumbling over the dirt road to get there. The parking spots filled half with Teslas and half with Texas edition pick up trucks. Good coffee and patries, breads, etc - I won't pay $10 or $11 for an egg sandwich (they're out of their minds) pretty friendly people working there. I like that they use the Barton Springs mill flour - I've enjoyed taking classes at Barton Springs Mill. Treaty Oak right next door is a great place to get drinks & food as well. Our first visit was on Mother's Day so it was extremely busy. We were prepared for the long wait but very disappointed they were sold out of everything on the "walk-in" menu. The service wasn't friendly but that was totally understandable because the staff was overwhelmed. Luckily we were able to get a Big Country Bread loaf to take home and it was delicious. I will definitely try to do an online order next time but wish there were some helpful tips (ordering open at x, pick up by x) Overall, I will give them a second chance when I go to Treaty Oak but I wouldn't recommend a "stand alone" trip. read more

Abby Jane has perfected their whole grain bread recipes. The structure of each pastry was perfect, and you know it took many tries to optimize each recipe. The cakes weren't too sweet, the laminated dough was crispy throughout, and the filling of the spanikopita bun was top-quality. Get there early--on a sunny weekend, they were out of croissants by 12:30 pm. Indoor and outdoor seating and a good amount of parking around the mill and bakeshop. 10/10 read more

Love love love! Cute little shop with outdoor seating (indoor seating still on hold due to pandemic) Everything they make is excellent. They have a lot of staples they always offer but also good number of new and seasonal offerings every single time I go. Everything pastry is incredible. They have some of the best lamination that I've seen, which means lots and lots of buttery flaky layers, crisp on the outside, soft inside (just look at the cross sections in my photos). The ham and cheese is wonderful - I think it has a thin layer of mustard inside which elevates it from the norm. The ham and cheese are both good quality too - very different to the version sold in donut shops (I enjoy those too but this one is markedly more "sophisticated" and non-greasy). The queen P is delightful - extra crisp on the outside with a sweet, soft, crumbly nutty surprise inside adding textural contrast. The choc croissant always gets the thumbs up too. The breads are also sooooo great. Just about all their bread offerings are sourdough, so you gotta like that (which I do). Again, they have Staples (baguette, country) but also novel options each time. For example, today I bought a pear pecan and rosemary sourdough. How cool does that sound? Finally, they keep coming out with other things too...like strata, quiche, loaded focaccia, breakfast biscuits. Oh and coffee, tea...and beer! And a fridge with prepared egg salad, hummus, feta dips, local ciders, etc. Driving and parking: it's past Treaty Oak Distillery. Continue down the gravel road and you'll see it near the end on your right. There's a good 15 or so parking spaces near the bakery and I've never had a problem, but i do see it fill up. It's quite a lovely drive from S. Austin to Abby Jane Bakeshop near Drippin', and the place is delightful. I went specifically for the stone ground corn meal (yes, it is a bakery, but they also sell a nice selection of the fresh milled, stone ground flours they use in their baking). Then I heard an olive sourdough loaf calling to me. I took that, a Salted Chocolate Cacao Nib Cookie, and a Queen "P" (phyllo dough in a muffin shape with pecan filling). All were quite tasty, but I'd make the trip for the bread alone. On our way out, we asked some diners if they were enjoying the pizza (because the pizzas they had looked FABULOUS). They were very enthusiastic about them and even shared they were from NYC and could recognize a good pie when they meet/eat one. With pizzas, salads, and sandwiches on the menu, another trip is in order to sample more of these tasty goods. read more

We picked up delicious pies from here for Thanksgiving. I have to say - they were absolutely without doubt the best pies I've ever had! The Apple Cranberry Dutch pie was incredible and we can't stop eating it. The chocolate pecan mesquite pie was rich and decadent. The spud rolls were a huge hit too served with delicious whipped butter. Can't wait to return once they're officially opened - hopefully soon now. We got a BTS tour to this bright and modern space with elegant and warm decor. I hope to spend Sunday's here reading a good book accompanied with yummy coffee and delicious baked goods, maybe breaking for a class in the education center next door, and returning in time for wine service featuring all local TX wines on tap. We came here after enjoying brunch at Treaty Oak Sunday. I have worked in the bakery world, so this place peaked my interest. My 9-year-old loves merengues so that's all she asked for and couldn't be convinced otherwise. Not only was it visually distasteful, but the actual flavor was just as off putting, and was eventually toss out. The pecan pie bar was rock hard as was the carrot loaf, which told me they were days old products and dried out from air exposure. Parking is ample and the place is very clean. read more

There are good things about this bakery but a couple of things really annoy me. Pros: Great bread (except for the pumpernickel) Good coffee Pizza is phenomenal as are bagels Cons: A ridiculous microwave for customers to use (I hate microwaved baked goods). I am yet to try something here that doesn't totally blow me away. This place is amazing! Even though I have to drive quite a ways to get here, I've become a regular. There's always something new and I'm always excited to try their new creations. I see some complaints in other reviews about the service, but I've always had a really great experience. I've been there when they're a little slower and I've been there when they're crazy busy. When there's been a line out the door, it's moved pretty fast and hasn't been a problem. The staff has always been really cool. Especially Art (I think I'm spelling that right). He seems really passionate about the food and took a second to answer my questions even when they were slammed. read more
