Emma turned out to have genetically weak nerves through breeding, a very disturbed dog that was not suitable for Ms. Lindholm resulting in her sustaining a major financial loss on said GSD purchase and having Emma trained by me, only to be rehomed. I made an order on Dec 3rd 2024. I was supposed to receive my order on December 15, 2024. I paid 155 dollars not a super huge amount but still we all work for our money. I was promised a weighted dog vest for my 87lb American Bulldog. It is currently 12/23/24. I reached out on Friday 12/20/24. And was told they would get back to me. And now! If I could give more than five stars I would! Mary and her staff are extremely professional and accommmodating. The kennel area is roomy and very clean. I have a 2 year old German Shepherd that is being trained there and couldn't ask for better attention to his training needs then Mary is giving him. Recently he was boarded there while I was on vacation and I was very pleased with that experience also. I highly recommend Abby Kennels if your dog needs boarding, grooming or training. read more

I would give no stars if I could. Put my dog here for 3 weeks for boot camp. My dog was not trained at all. They were supposed to send videos of the training and I didn't receive one until my dog was there for 2 and half weeks, which just shows that nothing was being done. Plus my dog came back with some signs of neglect or abuse from what we can tell. It didn't look like they even fed him enough. Please do your research. Plus don't put your dog through this...you will only cause mental distress for the pup. read more

I read some early posts that suggested this was not an ideal boarding location. However, they were old and I decided to take a chance. During my first and last kenneling, I had issues. My dog came back to me dehydrated. My dog was panicked and whined the whole day back. The dog was frightened and jumped at any touch. My dog vomited for a day and a half afterwards. My dogs eyes were pink and had built up gunk. The dog also scratched at eyes constantly. My dog was lethargic for several days. My dog has boarded before and this has never happened. I will not board again at this location. Update: I took the dog to the ER. Eye infection. Dehydration. read more

THE WORST PLACE EVER! This is a letter that I wrote to the owner of Abby Kennel: I've been taking my Old English Sheepdog, Susie, to be groomed at Abby Kennels every three to four weeks for almost a year now, ever since I moved to Massachusetts. While things haven't always been perfect, the young lady who groomed Susie for me always went the extra mile and provided a pleasant experience for myself and my dog. As an very active participant in the dog community including rescue groups and the off leash park I know a lot of people with dogs who look for boarding and grooming services. I have referred your business to these people in the past. However, the last two times I brought Susie in for grooming it has been an entirely different encounter. Instead of the young lady who normally does Susie's grooming it was a different person, a man. The first time this happened no one told me about the change up and I was somewhat uncomfortable with a different person grooming Susie. However, I spoke with him and while he wasn't very friendly at all, he did an OKAY job. It was obvious that he had rushed through the work, but I guess the outcome was acceptable. I was told that the next time I made an appointment it would be the regular girl. The last time that I brought Susie in was about two weeks ago. It was this man again. I was a little late for my appointment and he was extremely rude to me about that. He agreed to take Susie in anyhow but then called me in an hour and a half to tell me she was done. Now, I'm not a dog groomer but I have been around dog groomers for the five years that I've had an Old English Sheepdog and NO ONE has ever been able to groom Susie in that amount of time. The work was totally shoddy. Totally sub-par and completely unacceptable; mats were left in, she was barely combed out and I don't even think he bathed her, to be honest. I wish he would have just told me he didn't have time to take her that day. But this is not the worst of it; I was called to come in and pick Susie up. When I got there, there was a man working at the front desk and the man doing the grooming. The man doing the grooming had Susie on the grooming table with the arm in place and a loop of cord around her neck and attached to the arm, as is usual. However, the man at the front desk was having a problem with the credit card machine and asked the groomer to come and help him. The groomer did but he left Susie up on the table, with the cord looped around her neck, like a noose. I told them to take her down off of the table if they weren't going to be attending to her. I was very serious and adamant about this as this is a very serious safety issue. The man at the front desk literally laughed at me and told me if she fell off and choked she would "learn not to do that again." I will never come back to Abby Kennels for grooming or any other service. This sort of behavior makes it obvious that the people working there do not care for the safety of the animals or the comfort of their owners. This is complete and total negligence on the part of the groomer and rude, offensive behavior on the part of the man at the front desk. I will be sure to spread the word about this to all of the people that I know that might be considering taking their business to you as well. read more

Eric G beat me to the punch! I was also on vacation in Hampton/Seabrook, staying across the street from where this was happening. The dog in the back of the van started barking at 3:30 in the morning. I assumed it was outside and wanted to get in. I went across the street to find a small German Shepherd in a crate in the back of the van. Doors and windows were open, but this dog was in distress. I tried knocking on their door to no avail. Then the police came, and again they refused to answer their door. Before Animal Control came, a man came out and hosed the dog down while in the crate! I assume the dog had relieved itself in the crate in the van. I am assuming this dog was someone's dog that was paid to be boarded by Abby Kennels. They had another German Shepherd in the yard, that I think was their dog. This poor dog was kept outside all day, every day in 90 degree weather. This dog just neurotically paces from one door to another for hours. Another poor animal! You are a fool if you leave your animals in this company's care! read more

Disappointed! We have boarded our GS at Abby Kennels several times before without incident. Last time was this past winter, when our boy came home with ulcers on his paws. Not sure how he got them, but with lots of snow and ice on the ground our best guess is that the ulcers were from frost bite and that he may have been left outside too long. This summer our dog returned home with wounds on his neck. It was hard to tell what they were as all the neck hair was matted over. He was supposed to be groomed before going home but came back filthy. We shaved off the neck hair and cleaned him to find several puncture wounds in his neck. We think that this was probably dog fighting uncontrolled. I will never leave my pet here again. read more

Oh boy. This was the first time I ever boarded a dog. It was my 9month old puppy who is full of energy and LOVES everyone he meets. I left him at Abby Kennel for 46 hours and he came back like he just returned from Vietnam. Timid, scared to make a move, lethargic. They said he barked all night and that he needed to be better trained. He always sits for me on command. Every time. When he returned from the kennel, he would start to sit on command, but then pull up like he had an injury to his anus. He couldn't stay seated for more than 3 seconds. It was heartbreaking. It took about three weeks until he was back to kind of normal. Please don't send your pet here. read more

My fiancé and I were on the search for a great breeder. We searched high and low for a place to purchase a Gsd. After looking online and in other near by states we ended up finding Abby kennels. We contacted Kevin and made an appointment to go meet our future companion. We visited the kennel. The facility was very clean and well organized. Kevin showed us around and how well his dogs were trained and we were impressed. We ended up getting a female Shepard from Abby kennels. It didn't end there. He would contact us to make sure she was doing well and was very attentive to questions we had about her. When it's time for a new puppy we will defiantly be going the Abby kennels again. But it doesn't stop there, Kevin works with the owners as well to provide them tools to train their dogs and keep them obedient and happy. We have boarded our dog at Abby Kennels and take her to doggie daycare. She is a Pitbull mix that was not well socialized as a puppy, and as a result we've not always felt welcome at other establishments. The owner of Abby Kennels (Kevin) can come off a bit gruff, but his firm attitude towards the dogs is ultimately for their benefit and the dogs all respect him. They are used to dealing with German Shepard puppies and they don't expect every dog to be perfect. The staff is caring, professional, and take a keen interest in each dog and took the time to develop a socialization plan for our dog. Yes, it's more expensive than run-of-the-mill Petco or Petsmart, but the peace of mind afforded by Abby Kennels is worth every penny and then some. Highly recommended. read more

I bought a dog from Abby Kennel... After they had settled on a price, later they said that the litter came in smaller than expected and the other dogs were going for more so they upped the price... take it or leave it. Well, we had already made all the arrangements to pick her up Christmas eve for my son so they had us over a barrel. To beat that, it was over a year later and several phone calls that they finally sent me the papers so I could apply for our dogs AKC papers... just totally unacceptable. I have gotten 2 German Shepherd dogs from Kevin, the first lived to almost 12. My current GSD Xena is a all black one. I just dropped her off with Kevin to spend the next 2 months training and testing for her BH title. I drove to Mass from South Florida, because Kevin is without a doubt the best trainer I have ever seen. I have owned trained dogs the past 30 years.. Her truly loves dogs, and it shows. People who live in the Mass area are very fortunate, I wish I lived close to Abby Kennels. I spend $1,000.00 in TRAVEL EXPENSES just to bring her up!! I have boarded my dog Morgan there many times during this past year. He is a Puggle and the beagle in him likes to howl from time to time. This past time his howling at night caused the neighbors to call and complain. Instead of calling me while I was on vacation the owner brought him up in to his home and took care of him until the scheduled pick up date. The owner could have muzzled him, put a bark collar on or something else but he treated him like his own. It is a good value, good care, and you can do all grooming as well that you is discounted while boarding. Have had nothing but good experiences there. read more

Should have never left my dog here. All other places were booked and I thought one night would be ok for my sweet havanese. Not the case. While booking I was told pick up was at 12pm. When I dropped my dog off, I was told pick up was at 10am. The young women at the desk agreed to meet me the next day at 230p, when she was due to go to check on the dogs. The place was old, dirty, and smelled horrible. While away, the older owner called me and grouchily scolded me and asked me to pick my dog up at 10 am. I explained that I was told two different times with two different workers. I was so anxious about picking up my dog, I was waiting in the lot when the worker arrived. I watched her go into another large dogs pen to retrieve my dogs blanket. She then retrieved my dog from a small crate in another area. The owner came into the office and told me that my dog was given a bath due to the poor customer service from the desk help. He showed me a picture of my dog all soaped up and a person holding his Anus open to show me what he thought was a hemorrhoid. My dog was just recently beautifully groomed and thinking of him having to be bathed and his bum examined in this disgusting place made me so sad and angry. I dropped off at 1230p and picked up at 230p, on the next day. The cost was 125$. An awful experience for my dog and for me. I would NEVER use Abby Kennels in Lowell, again. read more

I have not done business with Abby Kennels. I am however a dog owner and would like to share my recent experience. Based on this I personally wouldn't do business with them and would discourage my friends and family from also. This morning we were visiting family in NH. During our visit we could hear non stop dog barking coming from down the street for hours. During a walk we discovered from neighboring owners the dog has been barking all night. After a neighbor contacted the police it was discovered that a GSD puppy was locked in a cage in the owners van. After multiple attempts and calls by animal control and the local police the owner finally came out of the home. In full disclosure he did leave the windows of the van wide open but definitely not the experience I would expect for my dog if I was paying someone to care for her. read more

I had brought my dog to day camp here Mon-Fri while I went to work each week for a few months. I noticed small things like my dog always having small cuts and scrapes each week, and the owner kept blaming the dog stating he plays rough. I took him at his word. Then another day I came to pick him up and they brought him out without a collar. When I asked where his collar is, Kevin stated they couldn't find it and "they would keep an eye out for it"?? I asked how he expected me to get him home, and he went off in a huff to look for it. Sorry I bothered you Kevin, but don't blame me for you and your staff being so disorganized. Then there were days I had to sit in the driveway for 15-20 minutes waiting for them to open late. At this point I would have taken my pup elsewhere but I had prepaid for 20 days, and it was expensive so I had to use the days up first. Then I brought my dog in on a Saturday, and I was not aware they close early on Saturdays and I arrived half an hour after they closed. It was Memorial day weekend so they were closed for the next two days. With the kennel closed / dark and locked up, my dog howling all alone. YES THEY LEFT HIM LOCKED UP ALONE. Yes it was definitely my fault for not recognizing the early hours, but do you leave a poor dog alone, CALL ME! Luckily they rent the apt upstairs to a nice woman who came down, and let me in. We went out back and saw the lil guy OUTSIDE... THEY LEFT HIM ALONE FOR THE LONG WEEKEND OUTSIDE~??? I never went back, a month later Kevin called wondering what happened. I said I went somewhere else, and he said he would give me a discount. I didn't want to argue with someone who just doesn't get it, and I said no thanks and hung up. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE, THEY CARE FOR $$ ONLY AND COULDN'T CARE LESS FOR YOUR PET. read more

My dog Ned Mann has been getting groomed at Abby Kennels for the past 3 years and it has always been a pleasant visit. However I brought him in today at about 8:15 am for grooming and Kacey look up the records and said he need a Rabies shot because it was expired. I knew this was not the case so I immediately took him to his vet at Linwood Animal Hospital to get a copy of his records showing that his Rabies shot will expire on 3/30/2010. I then returned to Abby Kennels with the documentation and that was when she told me that Ned needed another shot. I went back to the vet at Linwood and Ned was given the following: 1 Wellness Exam 1 DHPP y2 1 kennel Cough Vaccine-Nasal 1 Heartwork Text/Tick Disease Scre 1 Heartworm Preventive 25#-6mo* Total $179.64 At 8:55 am, I returned to Abby with Ned to have him groomed and presented the documentation when Kacey told me that she cannot groom Ned because the medication takes a day to go through his system and her health will be at risk. I called the vet and was told that this was not so. I fact I was told that there will be no danger to the groomer since Ned has been previously vaccinated with DHPP y2 and it is already in his system. I told Kacey what the vet said then asked her why she was being so difficult. She told me it does not matter what the vet said, and that this was the policy. I asked her to show me the written policy and she said that it is not a written policy of Abbey Kennel but her personal policy and even though other groomer at Abbey Kennels do not adhere to it, she was not going to groom Ned today and she asked me to leave or she will call the police. Well this was when I felt insulted. I told her to go ahead and call the police and that I was not leaving until the rain stopped. I will not have Ned groomed at Abby Kennels as long as Kacey is employed there. This woman need to learn to respect your customers. I am totally upset about the way I was treated at your place of business. I think I deserve a written apology for the way I was treated along with my dog. read more

I recently adopted a puppy from here, and she is an amazing dog! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and they made sure I knew everything I needed to know to care for my pup. I have another dog at home who has been groomed there and I was more than impressed! It was quick, which was nice cause at Petco It takes at least four hours! And she loves their groomer. She's always so kind and inviting to my pups, and they come back clean, and she is good at getting their nails short. Not to mention how much they love playing in camp with their furriends! I would recommend anyone to Abby kennel. read more

We have been taking our rescue dog to Abby Kennel for 2 years now (starting when she was about 6 - 8 months old) and for the most part could not be happier with the service. She goes for doggie day care 5 days a week (she has severe separation anxiety and can not be left home alone unfortunately) and still gets excited to see the other dogs and the folks who work there whenever we bring her in. They were wonderful working with her to get acclimated to the day care initially, and the play time has helped keep her in great health as well as let her get lots of exercise. Everyone there seems very attentive to the dogs while they are there, not to mention their assistance in training her (as well as my family) on basic obedience - our little pup is 80+ pounds so she can be quite a handful. We have also kenneled her a few times with no issues, and have taken advantage of the grooming services with decent (not amazing though) results. (The "OK" grooming is probably the only thing keeping this review from hitting 5 stars.) read more
