We rented an RV through Cruise America, and the rental was outsourced to ABC Rent A Car. This was our first time renting an RV here. Rented my Penske 12 ft truck here last week. Juan provided excellent customer service and was super efficient. It was my first time driving a moving truck, so I asked him about the vehicle's functions and he patiently answered all of my questions with a big fat smile. If I were to rate him alone, ABC Rent A Car would get five stars. Unfortunately, I gotta take one star off because I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the business's labor practice. My reservation was for 12 p.m. I arrived around 12:10 p.m. to find that Juan was on his lunch break and that he was the only one working. As such, no one else could help me and I had to wait until his lunch was over. Juan is entitled to a lunch break! Of course I will wait and wouldn't expect him to service me while he is off the clock. However, because the business remained opened with no staff on duty, customers like me must unexpectedly wait. In addition, because the office did not close and customers were walking in, Juan was constantly being interrupted while he is trying to enjoy his lawful lunch break. This is not ok. The owner needs to find someone to take over for lunch, or notify customers of lunch hours and allow the doors to be closed. In addition, customers should not be able to set a pick-up time during lunch hours if there is only one clerk on-duty for the entire day. read more

My first experience renting and RV and it was pretty bad. The owner who showed me the RV rushed through everything and didn't care to make sure I know what I doing and feel comfortable. I had to figure out most on my own and that caused major inconveniences for me and my family on our trip to Big Bear. I couldn't figure out how to use the heater in the rv so first 2 nights were rough on the mountain, the fridge didn't work most of the time. The windshield was dirty and wipers didn't work. The steering wheel pulled to the right. I received the RV with the tank half full. We went out of the way to only us the the bathroom for #1 and did the dumping at Big Bear cleaned everything real nice and somehow when I turned it in they found stuff that came out and charged me extra 50 dollars. I would not be renting again from Cruise America and most definitely not from this ABC rental place in Costa Mesa. They are a joke. Also when I called to ask questions I was rushed and felt the rude tone of the person there, which I think is the owner. read more

These guys are great, rented two RVs through Cruise America through these guys. Juan is really helpful and very nice, met David the first time this trip. He was terrific to! Two great RV trips in memory thanks to these guys! Also, the RVs aren't that expensive if you get them for more than three or four days. The price drops. I have been renting Penske trucks from this company for 3-4 years a few times each year and I used to really like them. In the last 18 months or so they got a new manager named Juan and since then my experience with them has gotten worse and worse. Juan has a way of making the experience consistently more difficult than it should be. Today I rented a truck from them and when I returned it Juan told me that I didn't fill up the gas tank and that it was full when I got it. I explained to him that the gauge reads the same as it did when I picked it up (slightly below full) and that I filled it up as much as I could. The pump shut off on me three or four times as I kept taking the nozzle out a little more trying to top it off. The tank was filled to within an inch or two of the fuel cap. He said he would have to charge me for a few gallons of fuel (4.3 gallons @ $5.50 per gallon). I know what the gauge looked like when I picked it up and it was the same as how I returned it. Essentially he was calling me a liar. Over many years of renting trucks like this, Juan is the only person that has accused me of not returning the vehicle with as much fuel as when I picked it up. I'm sure this is a common issue with people bringing back the vehicles with less fuel than what they received but this just was not the case today. This is not the first time Juan has nitpicked about the fuel and today was the last straw for me. I will be going elsewhere the next time I need to rent a truck. I felt like he was just trying to boost his revenue. The rental ended up costing over $200 for 1/2 a day. The fuel I bought cost $2.89 per gallon.Losing a longtime loyal customer over a few dollars worth of fuel is not good business. Losing that same customer when the truck was returned with the tank just as full as when it was picked up is even worse. Maybe he thinks he's right, or maybe he is just ripping people off. If this was the first time I would probably give him the benefit of the doubt. Goodbye ABC Rent A Car! read more

So Yelp deleted my review and guessing this company had made a compliant. Well I am now being more detailed. This review is for the Cruise America part of the rental process that is done by this company ABC Rent A Car. This place is horrendous...rude and not helpful what so ever. For a company that is working for another company I would expect better service but clearly since Cruise America was so bad I can see why they don't check their service providers at all. I don't know how the rental car process is....this is only for their partnership with the Cruise America company and renting RVs. For the price you are paying to rent you would expect better overall service from both the parent company and the local dealer. I have to say I will never rent from Cruise America EVER AGAIN. The front end part of picking and choosing an RV is awesome. The back end part if you have issues HORRENDOUS and mine was so little. But when I returned the RV it was compliants upon compliants from others. Mine was very simple...we had a campsite with no hook ups. The front end customer service told me no worries our campers come fully loaded that can last up to 2 days without hook ups. So when I pick up the camper the tour was very short....and forgot to ask about if everything was hooked up. Well the gas was only a quarter full so had to go fill up the tank which cost me close to $100 right there. When we got to the campsite....we found out soon the fresh water tank wasn't filled. Their was no hose to fill it either. I called the customer service line. The first person was nice and said a specialist will call me back. The specialist was horrendous, rude and I was about to reach over the phone and kick his butt. He basically said well it is up to the local dealer if they want to fill the tank up! Like WHAT. Then he said you can fill the tank yourself...I SAID HOW...I DON"T HAVE A HOSE....he said..what am I supposed to do? I gave up after going back and forth. For the money we spent we had to conserve the limited water....Screw this company and their so called specialist that call you back. RUDE SOBs. read more

Just returned from a 5 day rental for Cruise America. Unit had higher miles than I would have liked but everything worked fine. Very good customer service. Went over the RV with me prior to my rental (always recommended as there are always scratches and dents you don't want to be responsible for). The water and propane were full and waste tanks empty. Funny to read a review about someone who wrote that they had no water or propane. The email they send you prior to your rental pick up shows you exactly and precisely how to easily check these levels. And there is ONE button inside the RV that shows you levels! We dry camped for 4 nights and never had a probleme with water, propane or generator use. It rained for 2 days and we were dry and warm. Easy out and on the road. Return was super fast and they even stayed open a few minutes late for me so thatIi could return it after 6PM. Would use this company and pick up location again. read more

We rented a RV from here and our friend did too. The company is a franchise of Cruise America and not the company, which was disappointing because the company would not take any responsibility. Our friend bought a "kitchen kit" and the company said that Cruise America did not send it. They didn't own the situation and said, sorry, but we can't do anything. If you are a franchise, you make sure that what a customer orders is there. If it is not there, you make a point to get it. There is no sense of ownership and lots of blame. Our RV smelt like smoke and we complained but they said that was the only RV left. Why didn't they do a deep clean to get the smell out? Awful service, look elsewhere. read more

Had a positive experience with the guys at ABC. Just recently did a local move with them, using a 26 foot Penske truck (renting blankets and a dolly). Everything went smooth and as expected. When returning the truck, I was so exhausted I left my personal keys in the ignition. They ran after us in our car to ensure we got them back. DO NOT bother with this place. Owner/manager needs major attitude adjustment. Van I rented had tire blow out on freeway. Not only was he unconcerned about my safety, inconvenience or suggestion that I be given a discount, he tried to blame me for it and charge me for a new tire. When i refused he held my $250 deposit over the weekend until he had HIS ' expert tire guy ' check it out. Once it was confirmed that there was no apparent damage done and that the tire was old and worn, he had neither the decency nor cojones to call me, much less apologize. Clearly his business motive is trapped between his ego and wallet, not in looking after patrons.....stick with UHAUL. read more

I deal directly with the ABC staff, call ahead, and I have never had an issue with picking up a truck early. The trucks are always clean in the cab and in the truck bed, and I have never had any mechanical issues with any truck we have rented. The staff has been kind & courteous to me, even letting me choose which of their 26' trucks has the best lift to efficiently move our equipment. In reading the other reviews, I would say the only problems seem to happen when people try to use third party sites to book. Just deal directly with ABC. =) read more

I loved the attitude of Juan and David. The two employees who work there. I came in about a week ago and rented two RV's for my Grand-daughters sixteenth birthday. The did not smell, were very clean, and had almost everything i needed. I don't think they charged me anything over price. Overall enviroment is good, friendly. Only con about this business is the lot is a little small so I had to park at Jack in the Box. Will definetely reccomend this business to others. read more

BE AWARE: The check out procedure is quick and painless. The gentleman who helped us out was friendly and went over everything. Upon return is where things turned into outright fraud. When I checked out the RV the fuel level was slightly below half a tank. The gentlemen at checkout marked it at half tank. It needed to be at the same level. I didn't even blink, the needle was darn close to half a tank. I returned it to virtually exactly the same level and the same gentlemen said it's now 3/8 of a tank at $5.85 a gallon X 6 gallons. I said why is it that you said it was half when we checked out and 3/8 now. I said do you know the amount of gallons upon check out and check in. He said "it's a judgement call". No where in the contract does it say anything about a judgement call. If you rent from this company make sure you document everything to the T. They will charge you as much as they can on "judgement calls". read more

Rented a truck from Penske in Santa Ana and transferred the reservation to ABC as their location was closer for me. When I arrived I found out that the reservation had been botched. I lost it on poor Juan who was working this day. I'm surprised that he didn't ask me to get off his property based on the way I was acting. Within a few minutes Juan had presented a solution that had us on our way and satisfied. The truck was great and the service was exceptional! Juan was cool as a cucumber while I was screaming like a madman at him and his operation. Worst rental experience ever. Reserved the truck through Penske a week in advanced and when we arrived to pick up there were no trucks available. The truck was not going to be returned until noon.
