I took my son to see Dr. Monfared because he was sick. After examining him, she recommended a strep test, and my husband and I agreed. She later returned and told us that my son tested positive for strep. I then asked if my husband and I could also be tested, and she later told us that all three of us tested positive. However, we were not shown the test results. She prescribed antibiotics for my son. I asked if she could also prescribe antibiotics for my husband and me, but she said she could not, which I understood. After leaving, I decided to seek a second opinion the same day. Another doctor tested all three of us for strep, and all of the results came back negative. That doctor also showed us the actual test results. To be thorough, we also went to Hoag Urgent Care later that same day for another test, and those results also came back negative for strep. Both places told us that what my son has is most likely viral and does not require antibiotics. I want to give Dr. Monfared the benefit of the doubt, but this experience was very concerning. I'm not sure if there was an issue with the testing process, the test kit, or some other explanation. It was frightening because I was very close to giving my baby--who is under 18 months old--antibiotics that may not have been necessary. This situation was especially disappointing because I had hoped she could become my son's pediatrician. It is very easy to make appointments, often even on the same day, the office is close to us, and she appears to be easy to talk to. read more

I am so thankful for the referral to this practice from our local neighborhood Facebook group. I scheduled my daughter for her annual check-up and vaccines last month with Dr. Monfared, and am so happy that I did. I had such an easy time making the appointment, her staff was so welcoming and personable both online and in person. I also liked that the Dr. took her time with us explaining everything and she actually seemed very down to earth, comforting and realistic with child raising, unlike the previous pediatrician we went to that came across strong and would be lecturing us left and right. I loved the staff, very kind. However, the doctor complained that my daughter cried through the appointment, she was irritated and kept telling me what did I do to make her this way. Not all kids like going to the doctor, I'm not sure why this is such a shock. Also, the doctor does not like to be called on her after hours call even if you are a concerned parent who thinks it is urgent. The doctor made it apparent that the after hour phone call bothered her. Love the look of the office, location. It was not a good match for us. They have the nicest front office. They have expanded beyond Dr Marjan. Her NP Alex is amazing. He spent 50 minutes with my 2 yr old. They care like it is their own child. How can I ever find a sixth star? Dr. Monfared, Lien and Yamileen have been just one FANTASTIC team. My sister found Dr. Monfared when her son was only a few months old, then along came my niece and Dr. Monfared continued to take care of them in such caring way for 6 years. She is the best Pediatrician my daughter could ever have, she came highly recommended when I adopted 2 years ago and we have been with her until last month, that we had to move out of state. This doctor and her staff are the best! I am NOT talking about baby/toddler care, but about my 12 year olds care. Everyone is welcoming and they were able to get past my daughters fear of doctors. This started a long time ago with a Kaiser doctor and over the years it had become almost impossible to get her to seek help. The doctor made my daughter feel at ease, frequently using her name, talking to her about the things she likes and dislikes. She spent time talking about the difficult path ahead with hormones, boys, the change of school. My daughter never talks about anything personal concerning her body or body image. By the end of the visit, I learned about how bad the pressure is to be "standard" even at the sixth grade level. The receptionist/medical assistant always is friendly, outgoing and kind. We have never had to wait more than 10 minutes. The doctor even told my daughter to call her if she had any questions about her body or her feeling. (Unheard of in this day and age). Dr. Monafred and her assistant, Lien, are a throwback to the way a pediatrician (and staff) should care for their patients. They are extremely caring, attentive, and focused on the quality of patient care. Lien (Dr. Monafred's right hand) is excellent. There are very few who are as accomodating, friendly and sincere as she is; and she is gifted at making the vaccination process as smooth as she possibly can. As a matter of fact, there was a time that we were in the office so often that we just started to call her Auntie Lien. Dr. Monafred has gone above and beyond the call of duty every single time we have an encounter. She has come into the office early for us, offered to see us on the weekends, called to follow-up on our child's condition after hours, and does so with a smile. My previous doctor's office was awful. Doctor's visits would take so long even with an appointment. Without an appointment, you are a criminal. So I searched and found ABC Children's Clinic. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! My girls, 7 and 5, were super nervous about going to the doctor's office. They wanted to get the visit done and over with. Our appt was not until later afternoon. I call the office to see if we could get an earlier spot and they accommodated us. What? I am not used to having a doctor's office 'accomododate' us. We go in and I was filling out paperwork. Nurse, Lynn, came and introduces herself to my girls. That was so nice. She asked me if she can start with the girls and she did her magic to make my girls relax. She is awesome. Doctor comes in with such beautiful smile and I bet my kids were so relieved. She was very thorough with both kids and made my kids laugh throughout the appointment. Wonderful pediatrician. Her and her staff has been more then accommodating, friendly and caring.The receptionist got our daughter in quickly when she was sick. Also the pediatrician gives you her cell phone for after hours. We ended up calling her regarding a rash our daughter was having. She responded promptly and was able diagnose her as just having heat rash without us bringing her in(and saving us from worrying the whole weekend). Dr. Monfared was actually the only doctor in our neighbor who would accept a new patient with the insurance I had for my children after we moved, so I didn't have high expectation. This makes us feel even luckier to have such a great doctor. I'm pretty sure that we would never find a doctor who has such a personal attachment to his/her patients. I worked at a pediatric office before and have hired quite a few employees so I know how difficult it can be to find good employees but the staff at Dr. Monfared's office is truly amazing. I have a 9 year old daughter and my son is 13 so I wasn't sure if he would feel comfortable seeing a female pediatrician at this age but let me tell you, she made him feel very comfortable and my daughter loves her too. I'm personally not understanding all these positive reviews. I just received a 3rd bill in the last 6 months for a well child check up. These are supposed to be free! Every time I call their office I am told it will be handled, but then I get another bill. I'm not sure if they are miscoding or if it's just their billing company but it's starting to get old. We have been so blessed to have such amazing staff helping with the milestones of our two boys. We have been with this office staff prior to it becoming ABC Children's. Lien is the most amazing angel. I can call anytime and get my concerns answered. When my oldest had seizures, she was caring, fast responsive and amazing at following up. Dr. Monfared is the most wonderful doctor ever. She listens to you and wants to come up with a solution as well as keeps you informed on what to expect. I love that she isn't quick to prescribe meds. She was so patient when I needed a speech and occupational therapist and when I called her in tears over the referral my insurance gave, she acted fast went above and beyond and found me Beach Kids therapy. She even wrote a letter to have my insurance accept them. If you are looking for a doctor and staff that treats you like family please look no further. We were in town for vacation when our 3 year old daughter got sick. I googled nearby pediatricians in our insurance network and Dr. Monfared came up. When I called, the receptionist said that they were closing but would stay open if we could hurry in. We did and were so glad that Dr. Monfared was able to see us. She was great with our daughter and spent enough time with her to get an accurate diagnosis. This was obviously her first time with her but it felt like she'd been our regular pediatrician. Her nurse was great too. The doctor gave us her cell phone number and urged us to call if we had any other concerns before we returned home.
