This review is long overdue, but I can't say enough about how much we love this practice! ​Dr. Mike, Dr. Bayless, and Ashley are truly top-notch providers and even better individuals. As a team, they have been an incredible support system for my children. They are a vital part of my "village," helping me make informed decisions about my kids' well-being without ever making me feel judged or unheard. ​Because they are parents themselves, they truly understand the anxiety that comes when a child is ill. I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to Dr. Mike. He literally game my wife and I our 6 year old daughter back. Since my daughter was a toddler, she was always a strong, independent, and decisive little girl that always new exactly what she wanted and told you what was on her mind, but was also the sweetest and loving little girl who would shower us with love and constantly tell us how much she loved us. About a year and a half ago, my daughter had a Radical and Immediate shift in her personality (over night). All of a sudden, she couldnt make any decisions (couldn't express what she wanted to eat, what she wanted to play, etc...). She would literally be frozen when trying to make a decision. It was so bad, that for 1 1/2 yrs, she couldnt even tell us that she loved us, because she couldnt make a decision as to what "love" meant, and if she was feeling it. Our original Pediatrician first told us it was just a "phase", which I disagreed, but decided to trust the Dr's opinion over my gut. They didnt run any test, just told us she'll get over it. After 9 months, we brought her back, and again, and he then told us that he thinks it could be PANDA'S (a autoimmune neurological disorder), which absolutely terrified my wife and I. Mind you, he didnt run any test. Instead, he just wanted to prescribe our 6 yr old SSRI's. I honestly couldnt believe that his professional opinion was to give my freaking 6 year old SSRI's!!!. I event told him, this sounds like you are just wanting to treat the symptom's, as oppose to treating the underlining problem. Needless to say, that was the last time we went to that Dr. After seeing multiple Doctor's, Psychiatrist, and Therapist, they ALL wanted to give my daughter SSRI's. THAAANK GOD we finally found Dr. Mike. When we first saw him, he genuinely cared for our daughter. Before even considering prescribing our daughter any medication, he decided to do his due diligence, and ran Blood Test, Parasyte Test, and Heavy Metals Test. It turned out, that our poor little girl had Mold Exposure, Heavy Metal Exposure, and a Parasyte infection scaled on a 9 out of 10 of severity. Her immune system and gut biome was 'redlined" and overwhelmed. He immediately provided a prescription for the Parasyte, and gave us a bunch of vitamin supplements, and put us on a restrictive diet to get her healthy again. NO JOKE, within a couple of months, she had an immediate shift back to her original, loving, decisive self. Not to mention, it brought tears to my eyes hearing my daughter tell me she "loves me" again. As a parent, its your responsibility to protect your children. That includes protecting them from other people's negligence. If it wasn't for Dr. Mike, my daughter would still be going through a nightmare, and I cant begin to imagine how much worse it could have gotten. Our only regret, is that we didn't find Dr. Mike sooner, and save our daughter from a year and half of H*ll. Dr. Mike mentioned that he would be seeing adults soon. As soon as he does, I'm going to make him my primary. I am forever in his debt. I just hope he knows how grateful I am to him. read more

The doctors are great here and very invested when examining your child. The only hang up is you sort of have to wait a little bit when you actually get to your appointment. Guess that's every doctor since there is a shortage of health care workers. Meaning if your appt is 2pm, you prob won't be seen til 2:45 and then will be seen for maybe 5 min or less .such a time suck going to the doctor to just be seen for short time. read more

My kids have been patients of Dr. Bayless for a few years now and we are really happy with her attention and level of care. This recent review is for the nurse practitioner, Ashley Bartell. My five-year-old had a stomach virus so I brought her into the office and she was seen by Ashley. Ashley was so sweet and so thorough in her diagnosis. She spent Time with us and ruled out a few different things based off of my daughter's symptoms. She was super kind and gentle with my sick little girl. Initially we had a good experience with Dr. Mike as he is personable and friendly. This review is partially for him but mainly for the inadequate staff they have. I've held off on writing a review at all but today I'm at my wits end with the frustration I have for his staff. We've been going to their office for 3 years, and our wait time has always been at least 45minutes, this is not including the wait time in the waiting area pre-pandemic. His staff whenever called upon never has the same answer or initially gives the incorrect answer, I've had to call several times or go through 2-3 people to get clarification on multiple items. It baffles me that the communication is so poor. The only upside to this pandemic is that they finally get you into a room right away and stop prioritizing walk in appointments instead of actual appointments already made. We've switched to another doctor because of their staff and once again they've failed to send records that we've repeatedly asked for...and so here we are waiting a minimum an hour. Lastly, my son had an asthma attack after seeing this doctor and other practitioners in his office when I told him all the signs and symptoms and went in at least 3 times because this was on going for 4 months, and what happens? My son gets hospitalized with an asthma attack after we've complied with all the suggestions. When we had our follow up the doctor didn't even know (when records were sent to him), and I had to ask him to check his lungs when he was already done with his evaluation. Not sure what's going, maybe that they're in a rush and don't care to do a full examination. Oh this also doesn't include the incorrect refill prescription we received after specifically telling the staff what it was supposed to be went to the pharmacy, and it was the wrong asthma medication, so I had to call AGAIN and go back to the pharmacy again. Who wants to go through this during a pandemic when their son has an underlying condition? I'm sure no parent. read more

I just started looking for a pediatrician. I expect a doctor that will answer after-hours calls and maybe easy stroller access. Appointment requests and prescription refills can be done online with this medical group. Closed for an hour after 1:00 for lunch though. I like the extended office hours, morning walk-ins, and same day sick appointments. I love that this practice offers prenatal visits and supports breastfeeding. I want a focus on adolescent or sports medicine for the future + free parking. Medical records are electronic and reception rooms are separated between sick/well. There is a doctor on call 24/7. They are affiliated with CHOC, Mission Hospital, and Saddleback Memorial. They have specialists in allergy and asthma management. They accept Healthy Families, Monarch, Tricare insurances. They serve the areas of Irvine, Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo, and Rancho Santa Margarita so I live too far. This practice has a "meet the doctor" session. Walk-in hours are only on weekday mornings though. read more

This is such a long overdue review. Truly the best pediatrician in OC! Dr Mike has been my daughters (3 years old) and my sons (6 months) since birth. He has always cared for them like their own and listened to my concerns. Often doctors feel like they're just trying to get you out of the room but Dr Mike has never done that. I had been worried about a sound my son makes when breathing and so many doctors that have seen him just send him away and tell me he's fine since he's gaining weight, eating, etc. Dr Mike took me seriously and wants him to get looked at before any diagnoses are made. Also, my daughter is VERY nervous around new people especially men, but has always felt comfortable with him. Shows how calm he makes everyone around him feel! And if any reviews comment on wait times, it's because Dr Mike is taking time with each patient and trying not to rush you out of the room! Pros: My kids liked the new toys in the waiting room. Cons: The waiting room is TINY. It couldn't fit the waiting 3 adults, 3 kids and a stroller. It was run-down, also. MAJOR CON: I couldn't bear the lack of reception of the front office staff and stood up and left before I ever had my 2 young children seen (6 yrs and 8 yrs). The front office woman/girl was rude and cold and dismissive and annoyed and snarky and asking me to do her job to request past Doctor records to be transferred/faxed to her. I insisted she contact my children's last primary doctor and request, as is customary. I next spent about 10 minutes filling out the intake forms interacting with her with insurance and other "setup" work. Then it dawned on me "What the heck am I doing?" I stood up and asked for the documents back and informed her I would not be admitting my children as patients at all. She was dismissive and didn't care. At all. But I DO care. A LOT about my children and their health and their experience. Our children and even us as parents, we tend to spend more time with the administration staff of the Doctor than the actual Doctor. I couldn't tell you if the Doctors are good or not. They could have been the best Doctors in the known Universe. No clue. And not worth it. I couldn't bear getting past the front desk mean girl. Life is too short and there are too many AMAZING doctor experiences to suffer through a crappy one. I gathered my kids and we left; and I found a better staff and doctor elsewhere. read more

I was researching pediatricians and was referred to Dr. Cox, so I visited when pregnant and cannot say enough good things about it. They have a sick entrance and well entrance, clean rooms, do not keep you waiting long. They know that time is unpredictable with children so they have a grace period for your appt which is rare I believe and such a stress reliever. Assisted with insurance back and forth. Overall very happy, Dr. Cox is amazing and it shows that she truly loves her job and cares for her patients. read more

We really like coming to this children's clinic. The staff is very nice and helpful. They respect your time schedule and will always take your calls after hours and during the weekends if there is an emergency with your baby. They have a sick and a well entrance which is important for parents and babies. The nurses are always very nice and take the time to explain the possible side effects when giving the vaccines to our baby. read more

I've been coming here since my first baby was born and she is now 6! Everyone has been great through all of my initial concerns as a new mom and now as a veteran mom of 2 girls. Veronica always is so welcoming and sweet to my girls. All the staff is just great but Veronica has been there through it all. Here we go again, had to come back for my youngest vaccination. Checked in at 230 for our 240p appointment. It's 315p now and still waiting. 2 patients who came in after me were already seen. Their excuse is that they're 2 physicians only, so essentially my physician is slow? Or maybe they are reading these reviews and are petty and purposely making us wait. It's a sad day when the industry that should take care of you don't care. I hope you see this dr mike, this is your team, your staff. I have to give a 3. I went to the Irvine location my first time with Dr. Mike, and had a fantastic experience. A friend referred us to him, and didn't let us down. My second visit was at this location, and was disappointing. It was a sick visit, and therefore I had no choice but to come at 3pm on a Friday. We waited for an hour before being seen, which I understand happens, that wasn't too bothersome to me. Our actual visit was uncomfortable. The nurse was making small talk asking about any weekend plans, and as I was responding, cut me off and started talking about something else. Whatever, not a big deal. I asked her the same, to which she responded that it was Friday, and they all couldn't wait to get out of the office. It was just one of those interactions where there's no eye contact, and you don't feel like the person is listening to you whatsoever. I would care more if the topic were actually about my child, being that it was small talk it doesn't matter. But her saying that they couldn't wait to leave was unprofessional. By the time Dr. Mike came in, it looked like it was a long, busy week for him. I didn't experience that same care and compassion, and I kind of felt silly for bringing my son in. The bedside manner overall just felt a bit neglectful between the staff as a whole. This office is bigger and busier. I still believe Dr. Mike is a great pediatrician, I just would stick with the smaller, more personal Irvine office, and avoid Fridays altogether. read more

My daughter loves the doctors. This review is for Karen at the front office. We waited for over 30 minutes for her to verify our insurance, when I asked what number she called she had a bad attitude and informed me she was on the line with them. After waiting she was unable to verify. I watched her and she never spoke to anyone. What is ironic, we just came from another doctors office and they verified the insurance without issue. May find a different doctors office that values it's patients. read more

Dr. Mike does spend a good amount of time with you per visit so you don't feel like your appointment is turn and burn. Also, good vax policy: helps you worry less when you go in. He is very patient (my kid cries from entry of the door until she gets out of the building) and informs about the kid's condition very well. Dr. Mike is the best pediatrician, hands down! I started taking my son to Dr. Mike right after he was born in February and I was blown away by the amount of time and attention that Dr. Mike gave to my laundry list of questions since I was a new Mom. Not only did he answer my questions but he always had the greatest advice to give on upcoming milestones. The office staff is really friendly and they are there to answer your questions when you are at home freaking out. If they can't answer your question, they speak with the doctor and call you back right away. When my son was 4 months old, I left my job to be a stay-at-home Mom. The only downside to leaving my job is that I lost my insurance and Dr. Mike's office doesn't take our new plan. If my insurance situation ever changes, I won't hesitate to switch back to this office. For now, I am still trying to find a pediatrician that can measure up to Dr. Mike! read more

We have followed Dr. Mike from his previous clinic to the one that he presently has opened for himself with his hand picked pediatricians. My eldest just turned 6 -- and so we have been going to him since the day my son was born. We just changed insurance recently and our #1 consideration was whether or not our new insurance would cover visits to Dr. Mike. My children adore Dr. Mike -- as do we. He listens to us, he understands and considers what we are going through, he treats us like we were part of his family. And after seeing us through thick and thin with our little children -- indeed he is as much a part of our family as someone who has watched our kids grow up can be. As a new mom, I called up in the middle of the night more than once -- and he or one of his associates responded in a timely manner. The next day they would follow up with us. Never once did I feel like we were ever misled or not cared for. As a parent himself, Dr. Mike is realistic in his approaches -- not like some doctors who say, "well, according to this and that... you should be doing..." Dr Mike is a parent too and he knows the challenges of what raising a child is like -- or how dealing with a sick child is -- so he is very sympathetic and strives to help find what is best for your kids. And my kids love talking to him, from the fist bumps he gives them, to letting him touch his equipment while he patiently explains to them what he is doing and answering his questions -- they are never ever scared to see him -- even though they know sometimes its for shot. Dr. Mike explains it to them and it's all okay. Amazing doctor, great bedside manner... and I love having that walk in hour when you have a sick one overnight! We love Dr. Amy Cox and followed her to this office. She is very thorough and so knowledgeable. This office has a well and sick side with a lot of toys and books. There are toys and puzzles in the exam rooms to keep the kids occupied while waiting to be seen. I can't remember if there was much of a wait since our little one was so occupied with the toys. The nurses were great as well. Very friendly. Overall a great office! read more

You want to know about Doctor Mike? He is as good as it gets. Is he a good doctor? My boys LOVE him and give him "knuckles" every time. We made the mistake of being frugal one year and switched to kaiser. Big mistake...my kids were traumatized by the cold hospital style rooms and were deathly afraid to go see the pediatrician. Now that we are back, my boys look forward to seeing Dr. Mike. What is Dr. Mike like? He's a real family man who isn't pretentious but genuinely cares for children. I trust him absolutely. What's the office like? In the past few years I've seen a little turn around with the nurses and front desk but in general it seems to have gotten better: friendlier, less waiting around. Is he reachable? Whenever I left a message he always has called back, even late nights (for which I always feel bad) but yes...he is available. I've only seen another doctor other than Dr Mike once because he was delivering. Repeat Side note: every room is warm and child centered with great paintings and toys. Believe me...it makes a difference when compared to hospital style rooms. We feel so blessed to have such a wonderful doctor to turn to. read more

I just spent 30 minutes trying to make an appointment with no answer after I press 1 to speak with the receptionist. I called at 10:30 am so the excuse could not be that they are at lunch. We would've been new patients and unfortunately could not review the doctors which could be great but the first contact should be reflective and as important as the physicians. read more

After having a bad experience at another pediatrician in the area, I was blown away by this office. They understand that children can't wait too long in a waiting area so they seemed to get everyone right in. We only waited about three minutes. They have a lot of toys for the kids to make it a positive experience, and the staff was wonderful. We went to this office because my son was sick and we read wonderful things about Dr. Mike. He was booked that morning so they got us immediately in with Dr. Christine Comulada. She was amazing! Really nice and she took the time to answer all of our questions. My son was nervous being there for the first time, but both Dr. Comulada and the nurse were so patient. They gave him toys and stickers to distract him, worked around what he wasn't comfortable with, and in the end had him smiling. They were just amazing! Really great experience here. Dr. Mike Villadegado has been a part of our family for 10 years now, and as his practice has grown, it is much harder to see him specifically unless you make an appointment way in advance. I have missed this aspect of being able to book an appointment with him, if my little ones need immediate attention. However, I have been happy with our trips and visits with Dr. Bayless. We don't go in very much for illnesses and such, as we've been fortunate up until this past fall with my youngest. I will say that Dr. Mike is an absolute treasure. He is unique in that he LISTENS to you and I've never once felt rushed with him. I know that if he might be running just slightly behind it is because he is giving the patient at that time adequate care and time, and I will receive the same treatment. He is fantastic!! Dr. Bayless has a great sense of energy about her. She also, is very present during the appointment and interacts with the children with ease and a smile. She was very helpful when we needed to come in right away and Dr. Mike was unavailable. My only experience with Dr. Comulada was with a return phone call. I had a concern about and odd condition my daughter was displaying one morning. I am aware that Dr. Comulada is on a limited schedule to make return phone calls and probably had plenty of them to make, however I was a bit put off after this conversation with her. I had described the situation as quickly and in detail as possible, along with my daughter's recent history of fever/cold, etc. and trying to add in my two cents as to why I was concerned in the first place because of the serious illnesses occurring at this time. It was the later half of this (my 2 cents) that she just bulldozed through the call. She basically wrapped up the conversation on her own accord and hung up. Perhaps I was the rambling, nervous mom trying to make sure I had given all details necessary to see if my kid needed to be seen or not. Nonetheless, I don't think it is in the Doctor's best interest to rattle off with "she probably over did it, it might be a lingering virus" then basically wrap up the phone call with a standardized Dr. goodbye and hang up the phone. Now mind you she did all this while I was in the middle of completing a sentence. According to my phone log the call was 4 minutes total. Obviously, I went a minute too long? Do I feel completely at ease after this conversation? Not really. I'm sure my daughter will be fine, but I'm still going to keep a keen eye on her just in case. Our future appointments will absolutely be with Dr. Mike and Dr. Bayless. I will only see Dr. Comulada if there is no other option in an immediate situation. Who knows, perhaps she was just having "one of those days"...I'm willing to give her that benefit. I'm sure she is a great doctor or else she would not be at OC Children's Medical Group. I just don't care too much for her bedside manner. Perhaps she is California's version of Doc Martin? Ha! I love that show, so I'll just lighten up from here! Oh! I don't want to ignore the nurses and staff here. I've always had a positive experience with them all. Thumbs up! read more

If you are looking for a medical practice that is caring, this is not it. I took my three young children to this practice for over a year after moving to California. We had lots of visits, saw all the treating doctors and the nurse practitioner. My experience is that the staff and physicians do not seek to make a connection with the kids, and generally don't seem to like kids. I understand that we all have bad days, but in this practice the lack of empathy is ever-present. The wait times are LONG, the Dr's are rushed, it can take a long time to get a hold of a nurse if you have a medical question, the treatment tables are dusty/sticky and look like they never wipe them down. The office is small and not welcoming to children. There isn't a single decoration or toy for the kids. They won't allow you to come with or schedule 3 kids (2 kids max). They generally don't allow a second adult (my nanny came once and they made a big deal out of it). You wait outside in your car, then make you wait again when you get into a room. Most importantly, it seems to me like their main concern is MONEY. They break up the visits as much as they can so you have to come back - and they can bill you again. I had a disturbing incident which involved my insurance, and they literally refused to provide vaccinations to my son who required them for daycare unless I paid in advance. I explained the whole situation to them regarding a paperwork issue with my insurance and they did not care. In fact, even when I arrived with my valid insurance card, they made me wait 25 minutes (with a 1 year old) in their bare waiting room while they "validated" my insurance, because they didn't believe me! It was bizarre. I told the front desk staff how unhappy I was, and she said nastily, "I am just doing my job." I then spoke with Dr. Mike so I could discuss his office's handling of the situation. He was as discourteous as his staff. I also thought it was telling that, after this dispute and the decision to break from this practice, I asked Dr. Mike for a recommendation of a physician closer to me. He told me that many of the offices near me (in San Clemente) take Medi-cal. He inferred that because of that, they were inferior physicians because they cater to poor people and that the care would thus be less good. Maybe that's true, but I sure hope there are some physicians out there who care less about the money and more about the patient, rich or poor. I won't be sad to leave this practice! read more

Dr Mike is AMAZING. We are so blessed to have him as our Ped!!! He's been helping us since birth of our oldest, 4 years now. He has the BEST bedside manner... never makes me feel rushed... always answers every question with detail... AND is so knowledgeable and experienced. He saved my son's life. He detected a very rare medical condition, that has a 50% mortality rate when untreated, but otherwise has very successful outcomes. He referred us to a specialist and we can't thank him enough for his expertise!!! I have a chance to get insurance through Kaiser but I won't because I don't want to lose Dr Mike as our pediatrician. I could go on and on about how incredible he is!!!! I've already referred two of my closest friends families. We just love him!!! read more

Dr Mike and Dr Bayless are amazing. Absolutely love them and even though we have moved quite a ways from the office I will drive to see them. Unfortunately when my child was sick I had to see another Dr. Dr Khateebi *not sure exact spelling. The appt felt very different from our usual visits. She was not very warm with my child and after every instruction would tell me " does that make sense?" Or " do you understand what I'm saying?" To the point I started feeling like she was talking down to me. I let her know my daughter had multiple things happening ( rash, conjunctivitis a cough ) and that it was just a lot to deal with at one time. My daughter has eczema so she was having bad flair ups- the Dr let me know since I was bathing her at night I was over drying her skin , so of course I felt awful. The way she explained it was like I should have known better. Despite my concerns regarding my child we were sent off with it's just viral- and needs to pass. The very next day now I have the symptoms and had to pay again an another DR to get the correct diagnosis to get medicine for my daughter and now myself. So over $100 later and wasted time, I'm happy to say we have what we need. This is just an experience I had and am sharing. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or what.
