Last minute shopping for gifts... I can always count on an ABC store when doing last minute shopping gifts to bring home. We didn't have much time to do shopping in this trip. Our days were filled with sightseeing activities. We tried to cram all our adventures in our short time in the Big Island... 3-1/2 days was not enough to see everything and do what we planned. After a long day out-and-about we went shopping at this ABC Store in Kailua-Kona. There are actually three ABC Stores on Ali'i Drive (so there's this one, another at the Sunset Plaza and the other at the Kona Inn Shopping Village). There is also an ABC Store at the Marriott Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. There is no shortage of souvenir shopping in this area. If you've been to an ABC Store you know it's a themed clothing store and they sell e-v-e-r-y-t-h-I-n-g!! Like every souvenir you can think of. Coffee beans, macadamia nut chocolates, calendars, mugs, jewelry, home goods, food, gift items. So here in Hawaii, of course, everything is Island-themed while in Las Vegas their ABC Stores are all Vegas-themed stuff. This location is about a 5-min drive (1.8 miles) from our resort at the Royal Sea Cliff Kona. Hold on to your receipts! A traveler's dream. Everything you could possibly need or want while traveling, all in one store. If ABC doesn't have it, you don't need it. The Ali'i Drive store is located in the Coconut Grove shopping center, and there is a parking lot behind the buildings. Parking is very scarce in downtown Kona ! Our numerous small purchases were cheerfully rung up, and we left with a bag full of necessities. It's downtown, so don't expect Walmart prices. Convenience matters. That said, prices were in the acceptable range, including 99 cent coffee ! read more

It's pretty awesome that this store is conveniently placed in our hotel lobby shopping center. Not only do they sell Hawaiian merchandise, they also sell malasadas and spam musubis. We've stopped in several times for snacks and souvenirs. Stop in if you're in the area. read more

ABC certainly has come up in my book ...and the service at this one was great!! It is so funny...there are literally ABC Stores on every corner in Kona...at least 3 that I counted!! A convenience store and a giftshop HAWAIIAN style! Locals would probably hate it. Us tourits....LOVE it! They have everything from small grocery items, to HOT half naked swimsuit calendars, to Hawaiian shirts & sarongs. We visited here several times....got a petron bottle, water and red bull! Ok so there is one on every other corner of any and every city in Hawaii! It's like Starbucks for us in the Bay Area or... 7-Eleven. But oh so much more! During our trip to Kona, we were in one of these on a daily basis. Last minute beach towels, bottled water and our 20 boxes of chocolate to take home! If you save all your receipts and they amount to $100 or more you get free stuff! I wish I was more organized, I coulda got me a free beach towel or a Hotties of Hawaii Calendar! read more

Came here to get some beer. Parking is available along Alii drive. This location is different from others as it is shaped like a bungalow. It's also somewhat out of the way from the main tourist area. The great thing here is there's also a small beach across the street from this location. Beer here is nice and cold. As I'm planning this summer's trip to Hawaii, I have a visit to the ABC Store on the to-do list. It doesn't really need to be on a list because every trip consists of at least half a dozen unexpected visits to an ABC Store. At least half of those visits are for something we forgot or ran out of (usually sunblock) or for a snack (chips or macadamia nuts). The rest of the trips are for browsing and shopping for souvenirs and gifts to take back home. At the very least, I'll leave with six boxes of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts and several cans of flavored macadamia nuts. Another reason to love ABC Stores is that they are everywhere in the tourist areas. In Waikiki, there must be one on every other block. What I also love about the ABC Stores is that they are all different and not just in terms of size and decor, but also with in-stock items. For example, on our last trip, I had to find children's cold medicine. The one next to our hotel didn't have any, so the clerk called another ABC store which did have it in stock. The clerk told me to go out the front door, turn right, go about 50 feet to the next ABC Store. LOL. It wasn't really 50 feet, more like 1 block, but it does feel like they are that close together when you're walking around! read more

I have to admit, even though I've been to Hawaii 3 times I've never stepped food in an ABC store! With Hilo Hattie's having gone down-hill I had to check this place out! I was in search of a "keiki" dress for our daughter, something ruffly and very Hawaiian looking. When I didn't see what I wanted in her size the clerk had someone check the back and she came out with 5 or so different styles to choose from. Score! I'd found the perfect dress for a reasonable price! Yes, it is like a 7-11 tourist shop and they do have sweatpants with Hawaii written across the ass, but it's your personal choice to buy that kind of junk! read more

ABC Stores have come a long way. They used to always be in competition with the The Whalers store. Now You hardly ever see Whalers, but you see an ABC on every corner and in between. Rightly so as well. ABC has really upped the game. They carry absolutely everything in some of the stores now. Not only every type of groovy little souvenir for yourself and everyone you know. But, clothing, kitchen items, shoes, things for the beach and the pool! I think the best improvement they have made is all the food items they carry. Not just Coffee and Macadamia nuts and Chocolate. But, food you can live on. Not over priced either. Which for Hawaii is the amazing part. Because we all know you can spend a lot of money while living Aloha. They carry Salads, fresh fruit, sandwiches ,frozen meals , Ice Cream,and sushi. If you have an ABC near by, you are in luck. I love how they will still hook you up with a free gift for every $100.00 you spend here as well. Such as a Calendar, cup, or some other trinket. Your choice as well. read more

My favorite ABC Store in town is the one by the pier, next to the funky tree and hotel. I bought ALL my souvenirs from this store. It has everything, and I mean everything! I had no reason to go anywhere for gifts. There is a huge selection, especially in this store. Some other ABC stores are smaller, but this one is larger and has a great selection! Also, if you spend over $100, you get a free gift! Save your receipts too because you can add a couple receipts together to get to the $100 balance. I got a free mug! (There are others to choose from as well). You really could spend a 1-2 hours in this store. I had to stop back 2-3 times. Parking is accessible by the hotel lot. You do pay to park by the hour. Awesome hats, clothes, candles, key chains, etc. I couldn't possible list everything. They have disposable cameras, underwater cameras, etc. read more

The customer service here was AMAZING! At least by the two young gentleman that helped me (one told me he used to be in the Marines). You'll see why in a moment. Of course most of these stores are about the same in terms of products. Sort of like a slightly more expensive and more comprehensive 7-11 like back in the states. They have decent coffee here too... My wife had fallen ill due to food poisoning and she requested some chicken soup. I couldn't find any restaurants within walking distance that offered chicken soup takeout so I tried to think of the next "best" thing. I went to this ABC store and being that my wife had no appetite I decided to get 3 different soups (Cambell's, Cup-O-Noodles, and a Japanese brand). I told the worker that I did not have a microwave back at my hotel, so the store associate poured hot water in all three and w/ the help of another worker brought it to the front cashier for me. I asked for a cardboard box so I could carry it back with me and he was back in a flash with exactly what I asked for. When I tried to tip him he adamantly refused and said he could get in trouble if he took the tips also and pointed to the cameras. read more

This is one of the only stores open so late. It's great for locals and tourists. I get snacks, slippers, beach stuff, and much more. Our luggage was damaged from our flight and we bought a set of luggage (3 sizes) for under $200! It's better than out $600 Samsung which broke after one flight! read more

What's not to like?!? This review is one for all of the ABC Stores I visited on the Big Island and on Kauai. Let's face it... they're all the same. Here you'll get your beach towels, sunscreen, Aloe gel, t-shirts, starfish necklaces, hibiscus earrings, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, Kona coffee, keychains, pens, random trinkets, postcards, and just about everything else you can possibly imagine. This is the best little store our family has ever gone to. I would say a cross between a 7-11 and a surf shop. They have drinks, dresses, fins and even golf ball sets. We easily spend a couple hundred bucks in 3 days. Ours was right outside the front of the King Kam hotel and a few down the street. They seem to have a few different things in each one. My wife bought 5 shirts for 20 bucks and they were nice shirts not real cheezy. A definite must when in Kona. read more

Good prices. Very little stuff sold here is actually made on the island. Free mug when you buy $100 worth of merchandise. Just show your receipts. You can save the used $100 worth of receipts and add it up to $300 for another free gift. I think it's a blanket or something. I didn't buy $100 worth of stuff so I gave it to my sister and her bf and they got a mug with the combined receipts. Here's what i bought: 1) flotation bed for pool $3 no inflated and $3.5 inflated. Not hard to inflate at all. 2)Straw beach mat at $2.89 but later found it was $1.50 at another place. 3)12 can coca cola at $6, bit expensive but rather get it here than travel further. 4)Trader Joes pina colada 4 pack for about $6 5)$8.59 4 pack hawaiian made chap sticks 6)$2 hot pot holder for mom made out of sea shells but made on Thailand. 7)$1 M&Ms read more
