Jordan worked our job in at the end of the day (same day as requested!) to fix our failing GE fridge. Although I could respond to each of the claims that Larry made in his reply, I do not wish to get into a long back-and-forth on Yelp. However, Larry stated "at the age of 73 & over 50+ years in this industry, I have never witnessed a dryer fire nor encountered anyone at conventions who has." It took me about 10 seconds to find that according to FEMA, as of 2010: An estimated 2,900 clothes dryer fires in residential buildings are reported to U.S. fire departments EACH YEAR and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. So, a man who lied to his customer, and bypassed safety systems wants you to trust him that what he did was perfectly fine, and there was absolutely nothing for me (or you) to worry about. Our dryer quit working suddenly, and our plumber recommended this company. They were so busy we had to wait a few days for a visit, and it was worth it! They had the replacement part on-hand and fixed my dryer on-the-spot. They were in and out in less than an hour. Their prices are the best I've seen. We had this same issue happen to our dryer three years ago when we lived in Dallas, and it cost us more than double to fix it. I was told they could have someone out the same day. The issue was quickly resolved with little effort by the technician. I was told that rather than paying full price for the visit, they would accept about half and just asked that if I had any more issues, to call them. I then asked the technician to look at an issue with my washing machine. I was told that the rubber lining was the issue and the cost of the visit would be about $190 to order the part and replace it. I asked him to order it and he scheduled a visit for the next day. He returned with the part and replaced it for me. I watched him work so I could get a better idea of what work would need to be done so I had a better appreciation of the required effort. He was friendly and explained the process. As he was leaving, I asked about an issue with my refrigerator. There was an filter replacement light that was not going off even after it was replaced. He quickly programmed the light to reset. I am incredibly happy I called this company. I am a little leery about hiring service providers to work on something I don't fully understand. His willingness not to charge for a full visit to address something that took about 5 minutes put me at ease. Then the work he did to repair a leak in my washing machine eased my concerns further. I initially went through all of the "Request a Quote" steps here on Yelp - a brief questionnaire on what I was contacting Abel Appliance Repair about. I explained that my washer was leaking water from somewhere, included the brand of the washer and a picture. Larry replies promptly after about 30 minutes, but unfortunately it was only to tell me that he doesn't do price quotes or estimates via the emails that Yelp sends him, and asked that I give him a call. No problem though, I call him a few minutes later, and he begins to ask me pretty much every question I already answered in the questionnaire. After explaining there was a small pool of water gathering in front of the dryer, he interrupts to ask is it also on the left side. "Yes! There is also water on the floor, on left side of the washer!" He responds that it's probably just splashing out water from the top left side. I explain that it's one of those low-water (high efficiency) washers, and that I didn't think the washer even fills up high enough with water for it to splash out like that. His next response was simply "well, you can just pull the machine out, get up under there with a flashlight, and see where the leak is coming from... I'm not working today". Confused, I responded with "I'm sorry... what?", and he repeated his suggestion. "Ok.... thanks? I guess I'll look into that...." was my reply, and he offered up again that he wasn't working that day, and added that he could give me the number to someone who was working. Having little faith in his abilities or anyone he'd associate with at this point, I declined his offer and said I'd look for someone else myself. Maybe for more DIY types of folks, "pull out the washer, and get under it with a flashlight" is solid advice, I really don't know... I just felt this was weirdly unprofessional. read more

Okay...so I would literally up and move to Frisco to have Abel's work on my appliances. Kindness & Product Knowledge is everything and Abel's is the absolute best! I had an issue with my oven and GE was going to send a company they chose out to fix it. (I won't mention the company's name here) I looked them up to check out their reviews and out of over 100 reviews they had 1 star! I called GE back and told them I didn't want any one like that in my home with that kind of reputation. GE kindly told me that if I had a repair company in mind that they will honor my choice. So being that I was new to the area I didn't have an appliance repair person yet. I went on Google and Yelp and found Abel Appliance Repair who had excellent reviews. Larry, the owner, called me back within an hour and was just the nicest most helpful person. Sadly, he didn't service my area but was kind enough to offer up a couple of referrals for me. Mr. Abel spoke to me like he had known me for years. He had me laughing and it was so great to interact with someone like that. If that is the kind of service you get on the phone then you can bet you are going to be treated the same when they come to your home. Our washer sprang a leak and I needed it fixed quickly. I called Larry, hoping he'd be able to come out and fix it right away, but with how busy he was, it was going to be a week before he'd be able to show. He recommended another repairman who was able to help me. That really shows integrity, in my book. He could have left me out to dry for a week without a washer, but instead took it upon himself to get me out of the jam I was in - even if that meant he couldn't do the repair himself - and I could not have appreciated that more. I was lucky enough to have Jordan come out for a repair covered by our home warranty. It was such a positive experience, I have since called them for repairs not covered and the service is always top notch. I'm surprised by the negative comments when the clients are given advice on how to fix things themselves. I was recently given advice on what to check on a dryer that wasn't running when I called for service. Basically, he diagnosed the problem and gave me advice on how I could fix it, as it was an easy task. After getting a part for $7 and 30 minutes later, I have it running again. Some folks might want someone to come out and do things for them at over $125 service call plus parts and additional labor. But it's my opinion that a repairman that is willing to save a client money by giving them advice rather than profiting off of a simple fix is the kind of ethical person you want in your contact list. read more

I appreciated the fact that when I called, a knowledgeable person answered (Jordan). I told him what was wrong with my built-in Refrigerator-Freezer. He was able to give me a good idea what was wrong and how to fix it. He told me he would try to work me in the same day or be out the next morning. Do not recommend: Called for help with an Electrolux refrigerator. Larry came out and worked on it and told us it was fixed, but the problem remained (Defrost system). It took him 2 weeks and multiple reminders, but he did come back out and told us we needed a part and he would locate and install it. After 2 follow-up calls and 3 weeks, it was obvious he was abandoning the effort. I ended up taking the system apart and fixed it myself without any parts. If you like having to call multiple times to follow-up on status, getting your appliance worked on without resolution, and flushing money down the drain, this is your guy. read more

This guy (Larry) doesn't need your business and he told me so. I asked how much he would charge to install a compressor (I already have the compressor) and he told me $500. I thought this was a bit on the pricey end so I asked how long it would take him. He skirted around my question twice then finally told me it would only take him an hour. I asked why he was charging $500 an hour for labor and he got angry and started yelling at me that even if I wanted him to do it he wouldn't do it for me now. I don't even pay this much for car labor. He yelled in there somewhere that he has to pay for his van, gas, tires, and that it's expensive to be in business for yourself. Does a surgeon even get paid $509/hr?? I'm not sure what just happened on the phone but all the good reviews must be from his friends, neighbors, or he paid for them. I am absolutely appalled at the rudeness that just happened on the phone right now. Again, he doesn't need your business. So Larry responded and lied through his teeth. We were on the phone for 5 minutes and it was this evening after 5pm. He never called LG. He never called me back. I never said one curse word because my momma raised me better than that. Y'all, look out if you hire him. He obviously has no issue lying here so he will definitely lie to cover his booty if he messes up your pipes or anything else. If you've read this, keep looking for an honest (and non-psycho) repairman because this is definitely fair warning. read more

Service performed on Monday, July 18, 2022 on our Maytag Refrigerator. What an excellent service call from a wonderful appliance repair company! Our refrigerator started "not cooling" on Sunday, July 17th, 2022. I did some research tying to find an appliance repair company. I'm am very glad I settled on Abel Appliance Repair. I called Sunday morning and spoke with Larry. He apologized as he was on vacation and would not be back until Monday (the next day). Larry offered me a telephone number to another appliance repair service. One of his competitors. Larry also suggested getting some dry ice to keep items from thawing out. I briefly talked with my wife and we decided to wait until Larry could service our refrigerator. Larry then offered to work us on Monday at noon. Larry let me know he was on the way and would be there a little early! Larry arrived, was extremely professional and immediately started diagnosing the issue. He quickly found the issue, made the repair with parts on his truck. It turned out to be a "compressor starter kit". I cannot begin to tell you how good the visit and repair made us feel. I have placed Abel Appliance Repair's contact information in my phone and will definitely be my FIRST call for ANY appliance related issue we have in the future. (Unfortunately, they don't repair dishwashers, but Jordan (Larry's son) gave me 3 recommendations for dishwasher repair.
