Oh Greg knows a lot about garage door. Prior to his visit, i told him i got a "wayne dalton type of spring" so he has a pretty good idea of how much he will charge me (parts and labor) -250ish Anyway, on the day of our appointment, i got off from work earlier than i should so i can personally meet him at home. He said he will be at my home before 5pm and i told him i will be there on or before 5pm as well so i wished him to take his time (driving to my place). I was told i was his last customer for the day (he said i am 60 yrs old, i gotta get some rest). I got home before 5 and i tried to call him at around 5:25 pm but he did not answer. He called me 530ish to let me know he should be at my place in the next 10 to 20 minutes. He got around 6:30pm. He checked my garage door and told me he can fix the garage spring and he is charging 550 not 250. He said 550 because the repair requires a conversion. At this point, well i cant afford the 550 and asked me how much i am willing to pay - i told him i can go as high as 300. He f*n laugh at me at this number and he said basically nobody will repair my garage door with that low amount (to think he initially estimated 250). Also, he basically said he does not need this repair job and he has so many projects lined up. It isnt his lost financially. I give him two stars for taking time to check out my garage door. I called on Friday to get 18 month maintenance done. Greg was able to get an appointment for me the following Monday. Appointment time was between 9:00-11:00 a.m. He stated he would call me a half hour before to say he was on his way-which he did. He explained what he would be doing which seemed to cover all the areas you can see looking at the whole system, including making sure all the bolts were tightened. He gave me safety tips regarding my garage door opener, not leaving until garage door all the way closed and again when you get back home before you go into the house. I already know not to leave my garage door opener anywhere in my car but good to remind customers for those that don't know. I felt he did a good job educating me and price very reasonable. I have used Abel Garage Doors a about 4 times in 13 years. the last time I used Greg was very demeaning and was nickle and diming me. we just recently had an issue called received a call back and all I can is what a Jerk. he asked me me a question I stated I needed to go outside to check. He then stated I just want to know the answer; as I said before I am inside and have to walk outside to get the answer. Greg then stated I dont care where you are I am not physic and can not see through a phone and then he said good by and hung up on me. All I can say is WOW... from bad customer service year the last time and it cost over 450.00. to have bad customer service this time. Wendy, I wish i could say the same. I used them a little less than a month ago when my garage door wanted to commit garage door suicide and jumped the tracks which loosened the wires. They did their duty ($105 for putting things back on track, etc) and charged us an additional $10 for using a credit card. Weird. Fast forward to today. I couldn't close my garage. Same thing minus the wires. Called and someone on the other end (answering service? sounded half dead/half stoned) asked my info and what the problem was and said that someone would call me back. Two hours later someone called me back to ask me redundant questions over and over again (like it was going to solve itself with all his questions): what was the problem? (roller not on the track) were you doing anything weird with it? (are you serious) can you close the garage door? (no, it's off the track) Does it close at an angle (NO, it's off the track) Is someone home now? (yes, because I CAN'T CLOSE THE GARAGE) [insert huge sigh]. The man told me that someone would be there sometime today. I forgot to tell him that I have a job! Two hours after that some dude showed up told me that the roller was worn and that he "might have over looked it the last time he was over". Really you douche? You were working on the SAME ONE the last time. I was thinking of fighting him if he was going to charge me, but I was so done with him I gave him $5 for the roller and he was out in less than 5 minutes. This time it was finally time to stop repairing and just replace our old, broken, torn, bent door. We bought our house 2 yrs ago, first time having issues with the garage door. Abel Garage Door stickers were all over the garage door unit and right on top of the garage door button affixed on the wall. Called Greg let him know what was going on, let him know the light stopped working and I replaced them with 3 other bulbs, says he was busy on top of a ladder and supposedly took my name and number down to call me back. Never heard back from him. Called and left a message for him the same day, still haven't heard back... Follow up is terrible. Ripped the worthless Abel Stickers from my wall and garage door unit and went with another company. Don't waste your time on this guy, hire someone else. read more

My elderly sister's garage door was intermittently stopping when going up or down. She had a friend look at it and he thought it was the obstruction sensors (the ones which detect a foreign object in the door's closing path and which we know only are in effect when the door is going down - not up). She then called the door vendor who sent out Neighborhood Garage Door Services (GDS). Their diagnosis ($89.95) required new springs, sensors, rollers and center bushing for $1,000+. .Previous customers have not been pleased with GDS and they have a well earned Yelp rating of 1 star because that is the minimum. My sister finally called me for advice. My neighbor had told me about Abel after he used him based on his BIL's recommendation. Greg answered the phone and we made an appointment for the next day. When he was delayed, he called to tell me he would later than we planned. As soon as he arrived and I described the failure he immediately went to the opener motor and uncovered the problem. The adjustments for up/down resistance sensors (they are intended to stop the motor when the door encounters an obstacle) were set to the minimum settings. Now that the cold weather has arrived, the extra little bit of resistance opening the door due to cold grease was enough to trigger the up/down sensors. Greg adjusted the resistance sensor settings, lubed the door and rails, made a minor adjustment of the springs and lubricated the drive chain all for a *VERY* reasonable charge. I am thoroughly impressed with Abel Garage Door and Greg's attitude, service, and exemplary performance. I definitely will use them again and recommend them to anyone needing garage door service or repair. read more

Great customer service and quality knowledgeable work is hard to find these days. I had a torsion spring snap yesterday afternoon so I gave Greg a holler. Thankfully he gave me a tip on how to get my car out need be, since this is California and it's fire season. My next door neighbor had used him last year and he just so happen to hear how terrible my garage sounded and went out of his way to make some pointers as to what the issues were and was sure to leave his number on the door. This will be the 3rd time we have used Abel Garage Door - I don't know why every house we move into has a garage door spring break, lucky I guess, but knowing we can call Greg makes the process of replacing it stress free and he is affordable. This one broke on Sunday and when we called, Greg had taken the weekend off (well deserved I'll say) but we left a message because he said he would call on Tuesday (after 4th of July) and of course he did. He fit us in toward the end of his long day and kept in contact with me throughout the day to tell me his approximate arrival time. Even more awesome was that he promised to call me 30 minutes before he would arrive and he did. Greg arrived looking as fresh as if we were his first customer of the day and worked away in our ROASTING garage - still looking as if he were just starting his day when he was done! While replacing the 2 spring system he inspected our cables and showed us they were fraying and should be replaced (FYI he never told us this about our other doors and we know he is as honest as the day is long). He told us our insulated steel door was extremely expensive to replace and what can happen if a cable breaks...needless to say we were happy to pay the nominal fee and are grateful for his expertise. I have to say that I received the best service from Able Garage Door. My door spring broke at 1 o'clock. After reading some of the reviews here I contacted Greg Files at 2 o'clock and an hour later Greg Files had a guy at my house fixing my garage door. In my book that is customer service. I can't remember the last time I was able to call a repair man and they were able to come out the same day, let alone in an hour. The price was reasonable and the door is working as good as new. Abel installed a wall-mount Lift Master Jackshaft garage door opener in my JMC home. I never would have believed that a garage door opener could be so smooth or so quiet. The door lifts up in almost total silence. I have a beam across my garage ceiling that prevented a normal opener from being installed. Greg did a beautiful job on the install and the wiring, and spent quite a bit of time in balancing the garage door so that the opener would give optimum performance. Very reasonable pricing and very fast service. My old opener had failed and Greg was at my home the next morning to install the new Lift Master opener. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Greg and his crew for any garage door or opener issues you might have. Very professional, very clean installation, competitively priced. Excellent warranty and follow-up on the opener and installation.
