10/5 stars! I'm a Mexican food snob being from San Diego originally and this place blows it out of the water. Good prices, generous portions, open till 2am and a full salsa bar with 6 or so different salsas and spicy carrots. The lady who helped me was so sweet and friendly (even though it was midnight). At midnight if the food is good and fair I leave 5 stars but this place is a step above. Nebraska burrito is awesome. Will be spending my rent money here for the foreseeable future! read more

Although I haven't eaten inside, the atmosphere while in the drive thru lane isn't off; the location appears clean and picked up. Got about $60 worth of food. Large portions, but everything seemed like it was over cooked, undercooked, or soggy. My kid's quesadilla the cheese was melted on the edges m, but cold in the center and not melted. Chimichanga was soggy and sitting in a pool of juice causing it to fall apart. Enchiladas had unmelted cheese in most of them. Fajita mix was decent and the Horchata was good. But everything else wasn't worth the price. read more

This is our go-to for weekend breakfast. A couple of breakfast burritos (I have beef, she has bacon) and some salsa and queso, and we're happy campers. But the rest of the menu is equally wonderful. Avoid the taquitos! The taquitos are flavorless and awful. This place is amazing, other than the taquitos, they are great. They are fast, the ingrediants are fresh af, tacos, burritos, quesadilla, all of that is amazing and tastes great. Overcooked, bland, and not what you're looking for. I asked for 5 cheese taquitos. I recieved 5 overcooked, bland steak taquitos. The tortillas were dry, the steak was dry, there was no cheese except for the unmelted, walmart quality shredded cheese on the side. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because I did enjoy the rice. The beans tasted like watery cardboard and the meat was super fatty making it nearly impossible to enjoy a taco. I normally really enjoy abelardos, granted it's usually late-night, but I still always dig it. However, this week I had a less-than stellar experience. I tried the rolled tacos combo, but I was not a fan. I maybe just ordered the wrong thing, but rolled tacos should be a staple for them. They were too crunchy and hard, and the meat (pork?) inside of them was terrible. My cat enjoyed the meat though so ??? Lol The beans and rice were good, as usual though so I ate that and was able to fill up. I'll continue to go back and order the chimichanga, but I do not recommend the rolled tacos! read more

I ordered chicken fried tacos and I received chicken fried taco soup. I'm not sure if they boil the chicken or what but fried tacos are not to be wet. They could have at least drained the damn chicken. I won't be ordering from here again unless they decide to cook their chicken a different way as I do not want to eat wet food. It really depends on the location you go to. I guess you could say that about any fast food place but Abelardos it's either amazing or very very bad. I've had most of them in the area and I've left with amazing food from every single one but I've also had quite a few bad experiences with them. half the time they do not understand me and they end up giving me the wrong thing which I understand and they usually fix any issues for free and they really are very nice people the service is what one would expect. I am never able to order the steak with anything tho because it's very tough and dry. The place is also kinda dirty as well. I walked in one time and they had corn chips in the back barely in view but I saw them TOUCHING THE DIRTY WALL. My opinion of this place is they need to keep the place more clean and better follow food safety. The food I can tell sits out for long periods of time and it makes the food inedible sometimes. read more

I wanted something to eat before watching the football games on Sunday, so I decided to stop by Abelardos. I'm usually at this place around 2am after the bars close, but today I'm a good boy :) Abelardos gives you a lot of food for your money and they also cook your food when it's ordered, so it comes out hot and fresh. I got my usual #7, the 2 beef burrito combo. It comes with 2 ginormous burritos (just check out my picture!) that are filled with ground beef and beans. You also get a side of rice and beans with it and the total is around $8. I love their hot sauce as well...it provides just the right amount of kick without overwhelming the flavor of the burrito. There are a lot of other items to choose from, such as quesadillas, tortas, tacos, fish tacos, breakfast items, and a whole lot more. So if you're in the mood for some tasty Mexican food that is cooked to order and at a reasonable price, you should check out this place...drunk or sober :) read more

Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Chile rellenos are huge and delicious. Burritos stuffed with protein. Self serve water and awesome salsa bar. Recently the timing and service has been awesome. Good more consistent. So much better than 10 months ago. Bring cash for tip since you can't write it in for cc transactions. If you're comparing to the new competition maria's right next door, Abelardo's wins with the Chile rellenos (price and size), maybe burritos but not lengua or cabeza tacos. I was wrong, and I am so sorry, Abelardos. I went through their drive through on a Thursday night, and had never been there before. I selected the steak nachos, some taquitos, and raspberry-filled churros for just over $12. Steak Nachos - SO MUCH FOOD. And it was really good! It was the perfect late night dinner, and made me very happy. The flavor was good, the portion was great, and the chips on the bottom were still crispy. Love. Taquitos - Basic, simple, and tasty! We moved to Houston Texas 5 years ago. It is rare that we go back to the Des Moines area. My son was recently their and we had him bring us back 4 Green Chile Burritos. Wow they were so awesome. It's not bad food for a fast food type delivery. The carnitas were moist and flavorful. Kreg seemed to like his burrito as well. I thought the refried beans were definitely under salted, but that may be a matter of taste. 4 stars for the food, minus one star cuz I didn't care for the surrounding. You are never wrong bringing home an Arizona. Herself is partial to the chicken enchiladas, rice only no beans. You know a place has become a second home when you roll up cursing the drive way apron and shout out "Make it a number 3 no beans chicken and a 7 beef no rice" and no one needs an explanation until you answer Verde or no sauce. Unfortunately this late night drive thru mecca has gone down hill. They used to deep fry the taco shells to order, now they use some weird pre made shell. Across the board, the quality of the food has really declined. They still have some great burritos, but Abelardos will no longer be my go to for late night taco deliciousness. read more

Wife and I went to Abelardos on Douglas earlier this evening. WORST FREAKING FOOD EVER! Rice and beans, COLD! Rolled tacos were hard and COLD. Like these were leftovers from the day before? Prices shown on website were changed to a higher price when we saw the menu at this place. So seems abelardos should make damn sure if prices increase it should also be updated on their website! Wife and I threw half our food in the trash and left! Never to come back to this one or any other abelardos ever!
