    California burrito
    Jake C.

This used to be the best place in Omaha to grab a burrito. It was always fresh and hot, they really took pride in their food. This is the final time I order from Abelardos. I ordered the California burrito. The burrito again was completely cold, the meat was inedible, the cheese wasn't even melted, and they might as well just rolled raw red onions into a tortilla. The chips and queso were awful, the chips were completely drenched in grease and burned. So disappointing again and again the same thing has happened cold food. Nasty. Don't eat here

Here is a picture from the web.

Taco Tuesdays is not what it used to be. "Corporate has told the franchise owner to put a small amount of taco meat in the taco Tuesdays tacos," says the waitress. Pictures on the side of the building show the regular tacos. Called Corporate, and they said 1oz for "Taco Tuesdays Tacos" 2oz for regular Tacos. That is the definition of false advertising.

First off, I'd like to mention that I've been going to Abelardo's for years. Abelardo's is a restaurant that's been in Omaha for some time and has grown immensely. In my opinion, this is due to the great value, taste, and service that they provide. This is quickly become my family's favorite go-to restaurant on fast food night. Once a week, we order food in and out of the six people in my family, four of them recommend Abelardo's first. Needless to say, we end up eating there quite a bit. This time, I got the chorizo breakfast burrito. This is pretty much what I always get. The burrito is massive, very reasonably priced, and comes with chorizo, egg, potatoes, and cheese. It is greasy, massive, and delicious. I will admit, it is somewhat unappetizing to see the amount of grease in it. But I don't order a chorizo burrito at a Mexican restaurant expecting health food. Cost of $7.99, which does not include any sides, But is an insanely good value. My wife and eldest son ordered the combination plate number 18 which comes with two carne asada burritos, rice, and beans. The portion is massive as well. My teenage son finished his whole meal, but my wife routinely saves one of the burritos for leftovers the next day. The meat is well seasoned and overall, it's pretty tasty. Cost for the meal is $12.99. My two younger sons both got the sausage breakfast burrito, and added bacon to it. Again, this is similar sized to the chorizo burrito (HUGE) and it's stuffed full of ingredients. These also cost $7.99, which is pretty affordable given the size. My daughter ordered the fried taco, with a side of refried beans. The taco was crispy and delicious, but not too oily and sits on a bed of lettuce. She, along with my two boys who tried it, all said that the refried beans were delicious. Refried beans are their favorite item at Mexican restaurants, so I will trust their opinion on this one. The reried beans were $2.99 for a portion that looked to be about about a pint. Total bill was just over $60 for six people, which includes two adults and one teenager. So even though it seems pricey, it's rather affordable for a meal for our family, and the burritos provided leftovers for four of the people. Another thing to point out, is that the menu at Abelardo's is giant. There is a ton of different offerings and types of products to order, and surely there is something for everybody. Abelardo's is routinely meeting or exceeding our expectations for taste. When I go in or go to the drive-thru, the service is fast and the employees are friendly. When you're there, it's also worth trying the Mexican drinks, especially the horchata. If you like Mexican food, you must try Abelardo's and likely won't be disappointed!

The Nebraska burrito! Marinated pork, potatoes, cheese and grilled pico.
    A S.

Abelardos is usually a safe bet for Mexican cuisine. I tried something new and ordered the Nebraska Burrito. It was different, but good ! I'd probably try it again. It had a tasty marinated pork, some grilled pico, potatoes and cheese. The ingredients went well together ! Used a little bit of hot sauce and it hit the spot ! The restaurant was clean and the service was nice and friendly.

    Birria plate
    Linda N.

This is a yummy and quick fast Mexican restaurant. The Birria tacos are very good. Taco shells come on the side. I do wish there were more toppings, but the salsa and cilantro were still good. Beans and rice were classic and well made. The vibe is what you would expect from any fast food place. If I ever want fast food, Abelardo's is the place that I'm going.

They also have some breakfast cocktails and a full bar. My artichoke omelet was really good. The eggs were creamy and the hollandaise really elevated the dish. I substituted my English muffin for fresh fruit. The fruit selection was amazing, but I am sad they don't have any gluten free options of bread. The service was quick. We came at lunch time, and there was a couple minute wait since we didn't want to sit at the bar. Our server was friendly and the food came out fast. I can't wait to come back!

DP ordered Lemon Berry Pancakes, a plate-filing short stack of goodness. I'd like to say it tasted as good as it looked, but I couldn't tell as DP chowed down like a hound from hell. In a good way, of course. She did allow me to share her Maple Braised Bacon (meaning that I was able to snatch a piece while she wasn't looking). Really, really fine, something I'd definitely order again. For me. Not to share. I had the Schnitzel Bennie with tart cherry jam and lemon hollandaise. Sound unusual? Tasted great! My only gripe was that the pork cutlet was a bit small and could have used a bit more seasoning in the breading. Would I order it again? You betcha! Service was fast and efficient. The decor was quirky and inviting but the space was loud enough that it was really hard to carry a conversation. Overall rating: yahoo!

My husband is a much harsher critic than I am, and he gave it a "rare 5.5 out of 5." The pancakes were some of the fluffiest I've ever had. They also have a great selection of coffee flavors to choose from, which was a fun bonus. The coffee paired perfectly with breakfast, though I probably wouldn't come here just for the coffee alone. The flavor was good but it did have a slight burnt taste. A quick note: you order at the counter before sitting down. It's a mix of self-serve and sit-down service. You order at the counter, grab your own silverware, and seat yourself, but they bring your food and drinks out to you (other than water). I do wish they were a bit more attentive about clearing finished plates during the meal. The restaurant was so busy that the line was out the door when we arrived, but it moved surprisingly fast. I was worried we wouldn't find a table, yet there were plenty of open seats available. The atmosphere is also really nice and cozy, making it a great spot to start your day.

We were surprised we ordered before sitting but I found that really nice actually. The woman working the front register seemed to be having a day, but as soon as my social butterfly of a child started being silly, the woman became a lot more friendly. After we ordered, we got a handheld order indicator and placed it on our chosen table. I got the churro French toast, my husband the breakfast sandwich with crispy potato's on the side, and then we ordered a side of bacon. French toast was fun. Crispy and crunchy, good with and without syrup. It had 3 triangles and it was easily shareable, but I understand if you don't want to haha. The breakfast sandwich was dense. We were surprised at how heavy it actually was. My husband said he liked the sage taste throughout the sausage, and he liked the aioli they had on it as well. The crispy potatos were different. Not bad, but lots of fried skin instead of actual potato. Bacon was good minus one obviously burnt piece that we asked the bar attendant if there was a way to fix it. She went to drop off someone's drink and came back with one properly cooked piece. She was wonderful. Overall, we'd come back, and we'd bring our friends

Ok the other hand, the service is rather iffy & unpredictable. The chicken & waffles is my go-to for each visit, and they have many types of delicious sides to choose from, with my favorites being the biscuits & berries, goat cheese grits, and also the fried green tomatoes. I have zero problems with the food that they serve here, they always do an excellent job at preparing whatever they need to prepare & the portions are always satisfactory. As for the service, there are days where you will receive perfect service while on others the service is not so great. Some days you will be attended to in a timely manner, while there is other days where there isn't anyone available or willing to seat you somewhere. I've also experienced instances where they didn't attend to our table to take orders until I made a complaint. Most of these instances were during days where the place was virtually empty so it's not because of the place being busy. I've also ordered take out from here before, again some instances are perfect and there's other instances where they don't tell you if a certain food is out of stock via text or call so if you ordered something that isn't in stock, you're forced to wait for them to prepare something else once you arrive to pick up your order. They also don't always include syrup or butter in the takeout bags for chicken & waffles. One minor thing I'm also disappointed about is how the portion of grits has lessened over time, going from being served in a bowl to instead being served in a small cup/mug. Overall, I certainly don't return for the service because you never really know if it's going to be a good day or a bad day for that. It's always the food that brings me back. I do want to like this place, and I do to an extent but again the service is always unpredictable. I'd still say the food is worth coming here to see how it goes.

They were fairly busy, and honestly our food took a bit to come out, but I am still giving a five due to the overall experience and quality of service. Our server Melannie was fantastic and always present. We did the bottomless mimosa deal (3 out of 4 of us) and she was always coming around asking us what flavor we wanted next when our current was still half full to make sure we got our moneys worth. The champagne might not be the fanciest, but for $20 bottomless mimosas I'll take it. They have fun flavors in addition to the basic ones like strawberry, mango, etc. which adds an element of fun. For food--there were several things I was eyeballing but landed on the spicy chorizo Benny. It was really good, eggs cooked perfect, and came with hashbrowns. Another at our table got the poutine which also looked yummy. I'd say the food portion could have included a bread/toast option, however If brunching in Omaha i'd return to try several things on the menu. The vibe inside is chill, would be more fun sitting outside once the weather warms up. Since I was the one that booked the reservation, the tab got a bit confusing. At first they were taking it off my total, then the server said that hold would come off so I paid for my meal/drinks there. I did end up getting double charged (for both the reservation hold and my meal) which was cleared up with a quick phone call to their establishment---apparently it is a new process they are trying. I do understand though why they wouldn't want to just deduct the hold as then people that don't know how to tip wouldn't tip on the total, which hurts the server. All was cleared up regarding this mishap though so no complaints.

May 25th, 2026 Food:…read moreWaited a whole hour for an easy order... which was a mini charcuterie board with a plate of avocado toast... when it was served... it looked pretty and at first I didnt mind about the long wait, but I was disappointed because it tasted like it was made an hour ago but was barely being served to me a whole hour later.. so yeah.. not worth it and now I do mind.. a soggy toast isn't on my list.. Ambiance: It was a nice regular refreshing bar/brunch spot. But safety was a HUGE issue which is where I'll get to my point of this low rating. Service: Is negative zero a thing? That goes to the owner... the 1 star is for the decent service my server attended towards me. In unfortunate events it's not the servers fault.. but overall with the owner coming out, couldnt be anymore careless.. The Cause: Either the owner or a staff employee whomever that is responsible for setting up the patio umbrellas, and I mean those large heavy metal patio umbrellas, well, they failed to lock the pole of the umbrella and unfortunately the umbrella lifted and blew away and had hit a family in the face that were dining there also; instant noticeable bruising to the face... I was only a table away from them.. it could have been me too. I am disappointed in the lack of care in general that surrounded the scene. Little 5 ft me... was the only one that came to help while everyone else sat around and minded their own business... it took a long while until one of the staff noticed to help and then the owner came out and awkwardly said a one word-sorry and dipped... didnt come back to offer any hospitality, non-genuine and non-apologetic... it made me lose my appetite. They had the audacity to still charge the family their meal... but I had to tell these really nice folks to make sure they get comped back. It was sickening to me on how careless they were treated. I would never come back! I mean an exaggerating long wait, cold soggy food and careless hospitality from the owner himself. That's three major strikes. P.s. That same wknd.. the news showed up about a South Carolina woman that was struck by a patio umbrella and died on site... that says alot about lacking safety. Yes, search it up. It's real news.. Hope this help improves the business alertness. P.p.s. And although I was disappointed at this dining-bar overall... I still tipped my server a good $20 as the situation was out of their control, my server was still attentive towards me. They all just need social common courtesy in empathy and hospitality. But anyways, my lunch ended with bittersweetness with the family that got struck, they comped my whole meal for genuinely being the only one that was concerned for them. The only service I'm grateful for was that.
