Tupelo Honey is one of my favorite restaurants! The food is always full of flavor, but my absolute favorites are the fried green tomatoes and the fried chicken. The fried green tomatoes are crispy, flavorful, and so good, while the fried chicken is juicy, seasoned perfectly, and has that delicious Southern comfort-food taste. Tupelo Honey is a fairly decent place located in the downtown area of Omaha. I've been here many times because of how good the food is. That's the main thing that brings me back. Ok the other hand, the service is rather iffy & unpredictable. The chicken & waffles is my go-to for each visit, and they have many types of delicious sides to choose from, with my favorites being the biscuits & berries, goat cheese grits, and also the fried green tomatoes. I have zero problems with the food that they serve here, they always do an excellent job at preparing whatever they need to prepare & the portions are always satisfactory. As for the service, there are days where you will receive perfect service while on others the service is not so great. Some days you will be attended to in a timely manner, while there is other days where there isn't anyone available or willing to seat you somewhere. I've also experienced instances where they didn't attend to our table to take orders until I made a complaint. Most of these instances were during days where the place was virtually empty so it's not because of the place being busy. I've also ordered take out from here before, again some instances are perfect and there's other instances where they don't tell you if a certain food is out of stock via text or call so if you ordered something that isn't in stock, you're forced to wait for them to prepare something else once you arrive to pick up your order. They also don't always include syrup or butter in the takeout bags for chicken & waffles. One minor thing I'm also disappointed about is how the portion of grits has lessened over time, going from being served in a bowl to instead being served in a small cup/mug. Overall, I certainly don't return for the service because you never really know if it's going to be a good day or a bad day for that. It's always the food that brings me back. I do want to like this place, and I do to an extent but again the service is always unpredictable. I'd still say the food is worth coming here to see how it goes. read more

Nice to tey theoe new 2 for 22 menu. A Monday to Thursday treat!. Lots of variety to choose from. Definitely recommend the double dipped chicken tenders. Bees dust seasoning has a nice bite. They do have good happy hour deals. However, I only know about happy hour because I look it up online prior to visiting. When I go, they have never offered up or handed out the happy hour menu... We stopped here for brunch with family on Sunday, and I don't know how it wasn't packed! Every single thing on the menu sounds fantastic. We started with the biscuits, which came out hot and fresh. These were so delicious and buttery, and the peach and blueberry jam took them to the next level. My husband and I both had the mountain morning bowl. To me, this is a perfect breakfast! I liked the interior, with the high ceilings it was easy to have a conversation. Two areas that need improvement: 1) Parking, coming from out of town, there was no signage for parking near the restaurant. I had to park several blocks away, but there might have been closer options. just didn't see it. 2) The service - didn't get a warm welcome when I arrived (hostess was on the phone), once seated, the two servers didn't know who was going to serve us. I appreciate the gluten free options! Vast menu with all kinds of mixed southern cuisine options. They also have a full bar and a nice drink menu. We went here for brunch for the first time, and I was blown away! The inside was beautiful and had an elevated southern flare. They had lots of open seating and a huge outdoor patio for variety of special occasions. We were seated right away and the service was excellent. The food was also delicious. The dirty chai was more on the spiced side than sweet, but it was still really good. The shrimp and grits were the highlight of the meal. They had a bit of cajun spice, and the grilled lemon really elevated the entire dish. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant, and it's made its way to one of my favorites. We've eaten here a few times and this time didn't disappoint. Had a large group and the server did a great job getting our drinks and orders taken. Food came out and everyone was happy with their selections. I had the sweet & spicy fried chicken & waffles. Yum! A great balance of sweet and spicy with the sriracha honey. The chicken was crispy over a fluffy waffle, when you douse it is syrup it's perfection. I do wish they would bring back the Mac and cheese waffles, that's my all time favorite with hot chicken and ranch. I think about that dish all of the time. Had brunch at Tupelo Southern Kitchen and Bar yesterday and really enjoyed the overall vibe. The food was on point! Fried okra, spicy chicken and waffles, regular chicken and waffles with mac and cheese everything came out hot and flavorful. We also ordered a flight of mimosas that were super tasty, though a little pricey. The space itself is beautiful. Colorful, lively, and just a great place to hang out for a weekend meal. Only downside was the front-of-house experience. We didn't get greeted when we came in, and no one acknowledged us on the way out either. Also never got a text that our table was ready which was a bit frustrating. Still, the food and atmosphere made up for it. I'd definitely come back and recommend it to others looking for a solid brunch spot. Solid four stars. read more

I couldn't miss this Yelp event at Tupelo Honey. I missed the last one and was very bummed because everyone raved about how amazing it was. I was honestly surprised by how much food we were given, generous portions and a great variety to choose from. They even included their specialty fried chicken dish! I really wanted to order the Smashburger with the onion gravy, but I decided to order order the chicken and waffles instead, and let me tell you, I'm VERY picky when it comes to this dish. I've yet to find a good chicken and waffles spot in Omaha... until now. THIS IS IT! The chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of seasoning, not too saucy, and full of flavor. The waffle was soft but not soggy, and everything paired together beautifully. They even created a specialty cocktail just for the event, served in the beautiful teacups we got to take home. A very thoughtful and charming touch. The cocktail was so refreshing.. I believe Josh said it was whiskey, lemon, and a house made ginger syrup. The bar is stunning and the staff are incredibly sweet, going out of their way to make us feel welcomed and taken care of. Josh, the manager, was also so friendly and shared the story behind Tupelo Honey, its roots, and what makes their concept unique, it really added a personal touch to the night. 10/10 experience and I will be recommending them to everyone. read more

A great happy hour spot to rest and recharge when taking in Omaha sights. We came in right at the end of Happy Hour on a Tuesday and the bar was pretty empty. We asked for recommendations and were told they are known for their chicken and the Fried Green Tomatoes are a fan fav. We grabbed drinks, waiting to dive in. The atmosphere is lively, good amount of chatter from the restaurant, clean and the staff was SUPER friendly. We had told her it was our first time in Omaha, and she was happy to provide local MUST DO's. The Fried Green tomatoes are extra hot, crispy and very delicious. A good happy hour portion. The smothered chicken was crispy, a good amount of chicken and pretty filling. Our server said it's very southern to make sure you don't go hungry. We were almost sold on the banana pudding. There are other items on the menu we will try next time like the fried pickles. Menu looks good. Chicken is a major item on the menu but there are other tasty things to choose from. We went with the chicken blt, the blackened Maui Maui, chicken and waffles and the steak and blackened shrimp dish. The Maui Maui and the steak dish were hands down delicious. The chicken that came with the waffles could use just a bit more seasoning (wife said it was "bland") and our companion said the BLT was okay. Dessert was banana pudding and it was outstanding. We had a ladies brunch here this past weekend and it was a great experience. We had made a reservation and the only funky thing about the reservation was when we changed it from 9 to 10 people, it had moved our time slightly up so a few of us were late. Regardless, we were seated quickly. Our waitress was prompt and greeting us and started getting us drinks as we waited for the rest of our friends to join. I stuck with water, but many of the friends around the table got different drinks. The mimosa flight looked really good with all the different juice options and I heard rumblings of the iced dirty chai being really tasty. For food, I went with the sweet and spicy chicken and waffles. The chicken was definitely pretty spicy, but not in a burn your mouth kind of way. It was also offset really well with the sweetness of the maple syrup. The waffles were cooked perfectly, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Even without group, the food came out in about 15 minutes, all hot and at the same time. When I mentioned I had to go before the rest of the group, the waitress was quick and helpful in closing my tab out. There was plenty of space and I'm surprised they weren't busier. Between some open street spots and the large garage attached to the apartment complex, parking was pretty easy. I look forward to returning when it's nicer out in the patio is open! read more

As a Southern transplant in NE, I loved visiting Tupelo Honey, which is known for a delicious, Southern style breakfast. I have been once before in the Greenville, SC, location, and both times have been amazing. A newer addition to Omaha, Tupelo Honey is located near Cham Pang Lanes and Ghost Donkey, which is notorious for awful parking. It was a little walk, which isn't always convenient in the colder months of NE. However, the food, ambience, and service have consistently been great. The interior is very pretty, and has plentiful seating, as well as clean and accessible bathrooms. We have never had issues being seated, although we often go in the late afternoons. It may differ on weekends, especially in the mornings, but we have never had issues. I always go for their waffles and chicken menu, and it is always a crowd pleaser. The waffles are fluffy and balanced perfectly with the chicken, proving a filling and appetizing meal. This is a great place to bring family and friends, and I would definitely recommend it to others! read more

We set a reservation for Father's Day, at 4pm. Due to the events going on, heavy traffic and minimal parking, we arrived at 4:10pm. We were stopped at the door- "we're closed". I made it clear we had reservations for 4pm. he says, "We give customers a 15min grace period for reservations" "Sir, it's 4:10" "Well, we stop cooking at 4:00" "So, let me get this straight... Im able to secure a 4pm reservation even though your kitchen shuts down at EXACTLY 4pm.. is that slot for a tour of the restaurant? Make it make sense" He had NO response. He stood there, holding the door, staring at me as if I said something wrong. We were so excited to try the food, but unfortunately that won't be happening. I finally made it to Tupelo Honey for brunch with my friends and it exceeded my expectations! First, it's beautiful inside. All the details I noticed were so thoughtfully done and cohesive. I ordered the Biscuits for a Cause (the proceeds go to help their employees in need), which came with blueberry jam and whipped butter. The butter was perfect and the jam was absolutely delicious. There is salt and pepper on the top of the biscuits, which seems like it shouldn't work with the sweet toppings but it does. I also ordered the Mountain Morning Bowl, which was exactly the kind of hearty southern food I was looking for. Everything had so much flavor and was perfectly cooked. My favorite thing about this spot was how much everyone there seemed to WANT to be there! Sunday afternoon, 1:30, no reservation, and they were apologizing to ME for the wait (10 minutes). So many families from church! We started with biscuits for a cause, which come with blueberry jam and butter. They're light, crispy outside, fluffy inside -- just yum. But they also have an odd sprinkling of salt and pepper on the top, which was an unfortunate distraction for me. Next up -- mimosas! One was an island theme punch, the other, a peach and pineapple. Both were borderline nasty, with a hint of tinny fruit juice in a can, but only borderline, because there wasn't really much flavor. On to the real food -- mac-n-cheese with Asheville hot fried chicken. The chicken and mac both were delicious, though not spicy/hot at all. We weren't sure what to expect, as we wondered would we get a "real" waffle ir one made of mac-n-cheese. It was a real one, and very light and fluffy. No syrup though, the presumed topping was the honey on the table. Next, southern chicken blt. It was your basic blt, large serving, good flavor. It came with a side, and we chose salt and pepper crispy Brussels sprouts. They were crispy and flavorful, though nothing special. All in all, lovely people, very loud atmosphere, good food. I wish I'd tried the sweet potato pancakes, and I wish I'd thought to get dessert, but we really didn't have room. I'd try this place again, it just has a nice feel to it. read more

First time visiting Tupelo Honey and wasn't impressed with the food overall. I ended up going with the Ashville Hot Chicken with cheese grits for the side. First there was nothing hot about the sandwich, not even the temperature. I received my order in roughly 5 minutes. Chicken didn't taste freshly made, super dry like it had been previously made and warmed up in a microwave or something. I received my order withing 5 minutes or so of ordering. However, the buttermilk ranch was good along with the cheese grits. I liked that it was served on Texas Toast as swell. Server was polite and observant of needs. May try again. read more

I came here for a Yelp event last year and it was one of the best food experiences I've had! I recently returned (Sat 5/10/25) for lunch with my husband so he could try it. I ordered the chicken tenders with a Caesar salad side and he ordered the sriracha honey chicken and waffles. He wanted the golden hour bourbon sour but they were out of the ginger so he wasn't able to get it, which was a bummer. He really enjoyed his chicken and waffles, my chicken tenders were okay but I wouldn't have them again. The patio was a nice spot to sit on a sunny day, and we had great service. Tupelo Honey is a must-visit for the food and aesthetic. I loved the clean, open space with plants everywhere and the cutest wallpaper. I had the sweet and spicy bone-in fried chicken, and it was messy but delicious--the kind of messy that means you're doing it right. The honey flavor really came through, and I just wish they offered wet wipes or extra napkins at the table because you're gonna need them! I chose rosemary parmesan crispy potatoes, but I ended up trading for my partner's regular fries, which were surprisingly incredible. Crispy, flavorful, and way better than your average side of fries. Idk what they did to them, but I'll be back just for these. My partner got the fried chicken sandwich, stacked high with pickles (which he loved). We also tried the Biscuits for a Cause--crumbly, nostalgic, and just like the baking powder biscuits my Southern great-grandma used to make. Served with butter and a blueberry compote that had whole berries, but honestly, we kept going back to the honey at the table--it was that good. How does this place stay open? The food was meh. Nashville Hot chicken waffles and macaroni - no heat with the chicken, mac was kind of mushed into the waffle and added nothing to the dish. As good as it all looked, it wasn't. Even the pickles didn't help; they should pop on a dish like this. The pickles were sad. I've never felt the need to comment on pickles before, but that's what I saw on my companions plate (and tasted with my meal). They just made a limp little line on their plate. And, what's even weirder, is that someone appeared to put care into their placement. Someone, please eat one of those pickle chips and decide if that's the finish you want on your plates. The bar. Fifteen dollars for a mediocre cocktail?!? Walk up the street to Sullivan's and get an old fashioned that is delivered in a smoking glass case and tastes amazing. Or nearby Wilson and Washburn and get a thoughtful concoction for 2/3 the price. Or go to any number of places with amazing drinks for the same price, or mediocre drinks for half of what we paid here. It's not about cheap or fancy, it's about value.
