We love this venue. We attended a wedding a friend hosted by The Abernathy Center. They have a chapel and a reception fall. Both venues are close but not in the same building. They are directly across the street from one another. When you drive into the area there are signs for parking that are close the reception hall. If you're attending a wedding it's going to be in the chapel. So the walking from the parking lot to the chapel isn't super convenient if you're wearing your best formals. Anyway lovely place. Overall: Wedding venue touring is never an easy process as you tend to forget which venue is which after your umpteen tour but the team at the Abernethy Center made it an enjoyable and one that is hard to forget! Service: With my fiancée and my hectic work and personal schedule, I really appreciated their ability to schedule a venue tour during the weekend - one less concern for us after a long day at work. What made the tour extremely memorable is Karissa's attention to detail and the small little things she did for us like making a custom parking sign which made me feel like I was like a celebrity. Venue: I absolutely fell in love with their venue - in particular the Abigail's Garden as every angle had a million-dollar look to it. I recently had my wedding at Abernethy Center and cannot rave more about this venue. It is absolutely drop dead gorgeous - the grounds are so well kept and stunning. The Abernethy staff is beyond helpful, organized, and professional. They know weddings like the back of their hand and ensure everything is perfect for your wedding day. The things that stood out to me the most were: 1. The beauty of the venue and how well the decor was setup 2. How present I felt all day knowing that Abernethy had taken care of everything for me so that I didn't need to worry at all 3. How well everything flowed - from the ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner, speeches, dances, etc. 4. The food- people told me numerous times that this was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding, and it was! Wow, as much as the wedding planning sucked!!! The day of was absolutely amazing!! We were VERY well taken care of. My husband and I didn't want for anything during our wedding. We had food and drinks brought to us before any guests were served (which was by far the best wedding food I've ever had and also had our guests still raving about it days later!) Us and the guests at our wedding highly highly recommend the corn beef hash to any brides and grooms going for a brunch wedding!!! All the food was amazing but that was the star of the show for sure! When our drink glasses were empty they were almost immediately refilled. Jenny was my day of event person and oh my goodness you can tell she loves her job! It was so apparent! Which made this day that I dreaded 1,000% better! They even sent us home with a TON of food!!! The left overs for breakfast that I'm eating right now reminded me to write this review. Yesterday I had the displeasure of working at your venue. The first part of the ceremony went on without a hitch. During the reception, the wedding coordinator was handing out napkins. At that point - I asked when would be a good time to get a drink. At that point, she said I couldn't- she said she felt uncomfortable with me drinking because it's on the grooms tab. That I would have to ask them- This seemed like an extremely unprofessional time to ask. I said I don't think they would have an issue with me getting a drink- and that I planed on getting a drink - since my contract is with the bride and groom - not them. Once the area was clear of guests I went to the bar to get a drink. The bartender told me that it was a rule at the event space to not serve the vendors. At that point I got a glass of ginger ale. The groom stopped at my tables to let me know he was enjoying himself. At that point- I felt like I could ask - and did- he had no problems and got me a drink. At the end of the night- I learned that the bartender had cut off the only other black person in the room- his groomsman. At that point I tried to talk to the wedding coordinator about the bias happening. I did confront the bartender. One of her co-workers interjected that she thought the bartender did a great job- which wasn't her conversation. I continue to tear down- note here- I hired a sound assistant to help me set up - 2 people hour and half to set up- he had another gig so I decided to do it myself. I walk to the back of the venue to retrieve the last piece of equipment- the co-worker that interjected starts walking right in my path towards me. I put my hands up and she walked into my hands. The bartender said- that's it I'm calling the police- you've been here too long. I'm in shock- and I say- please call them. The bartender is talking to her co-worker on the phone- yeah tell them she's been drinking all night and is assaulting people. The wedding coordinator looks at me and says do you really want me to call the police? I'm gathering the rest of my gear- it took me 2 hours- they'd hadn't finished breaking down the tables and dance floor. Once I get home I start getting text messages and folks calling my phone- calling names and hanging up- mean text messages. Call me kooky but after having no issue like to receiving anonymous phone calls and messages after that exchange last night- it's all related. It's terrifying that your organization allows this sort of behavior. The fact that your staff took it a step further by sending me harassing text message and phone calls means that this is your culture. This is normal behavior. I've got to let you know it is not normal - at all! The bias was both explicit and implicit - and your staff tried to weaponize the cops against me. Finally my private information was shared and used. Reading the reviews it's really easy to see your bartender IS a problem. Not sharing my story is a disservice to Black folks who want the best when celebrating one of the most joyous moments in ones life. Do Better. read more

Attended an event at Abigail's Garden recently. I arrived early and left a present at the assigned table of another guest that was clearly marked with the name of the guest, one of the staff took the present and moved it to another location and OPENED the present and left it at another location. This location was not cheap and to have the staff looking for valuables among the guests presents is a personal violation when the guest whose name was clearly marked on the package had not yet arrived. for over an after the present was recovered. read more

Absolutely amazing! My husband and I were drawn to this venue instantly when we found it in the Oregon Bridal Magazine. We started our search for a venue exactly a year before our expected date and had a list of around five or six places we wanted to visit. We had the best time touring with Karissa and instantly knew this was the place for us. It was the first venue we visited and the last, we didn't even follow up with other venues. They have the most beautiful gardens and amazing staff! All of my guests loved their food and couldn't get enough of the mimosa bar! I would like to personally recognize their day of coordinators/staff! I would have been so frazzled and lost without them. My husband and I recently got married here(in Abigail's garden), and it was absolutely beautiful. Our wedding consultant (Kassandra) was extremely helpful from the beginning to the end, and answered all my anxiety-ridden emails! My only issue was with the time slots. When you sign on with them you pick a five hour window from ceremony to last dance. The wedding ended as soon as it was getting started. It's common knowledge that the whole wedding feels like the blink of an eye, but I did have several friends tell me it felt rushed/ ended too soon. That said, I don't think Abernethy should lose a star over it. It could be that my friends just know how to party. All in all, we loved it here and we would definitely recommend getting hitched here! read more

Okay, so I want to start by saying I am getting married at the Abernethy center this summer and I couldn't be happier with that choice overall. I just wanted to tell you all about a few "surprises" that have come up in the planning process that I didn't expect. First, they have a very tight time table that they allow you. They are very up front about this. I was just dissapointed that it was under no circumstances flexible. Secondly, they are some "hidden fees" I hadn't expected when I went in for my initial meeting. As as example, there is a $500- refundable security deposit required, as well as mandatory liability insurance coverage (approx. $200). Also, your bar costs do not go towards your catering minimum at all which I would have never guessed. Third, they talk to you about offering tastings throughout the year to sample the menu (which is great!) But I was dissapointed to see only about 1/3 of the menu previewed. We can opt for an additional tasting at $100 each. Ugh! I have been very pleased by the professionalism of the staff at the Abernethy Center, I hope the above serves as tips to help you make an informed decision. read more

Definitely a lovely venue for weddings. I just helped a friend with her wedding which was held here in the veiled garden with the reception in the ballroom. They were very accommodating and were willing to wait until 1.5 hours before the ceremony for the bride to decide whether or not to have the wedding outdoors (it was raining off and on). They were ready and waiting to set up the ballroom if needed for the ceremony, but since we chose the garden, they made sure the seats stayed dry and that there were a number of umbrellas to go around (could have used a few more, but still a big help). The staff were very professional and wonderful to work with. The food was fabulous and they did an awesome job. The only thing that bummed me a little was that there was no one there to help with set up of the reception and ceremony site. I had things for the reception (like favors, toasting flutes, cake topper), and no one seemed to know what to do with them, nor did any of the staff help us out with them. We wound up having to put out all the favors, decorate the ceremony site and get all of that stuff set up ourselves, which was doable...but would have been nice if they'd had the staff who were standing around in the ballroom help out. They also could really benefit from better signage as we had several folks try to crash the wedding cause they didn't realize they had the wrong garden. Even had folks crashing the reception site to use the restroom cause they didn't know where their event site was. Other than that, it was really well done and they do a lovely job. read more

Let me just start by saying WOW! My husband & I just got married here on 3/29/14 and it was all around an incredible experience! Elizabeth, did a great job on gathering the details that we wanted. She even thought of things that never even crossed my mind! Planning a wedding is tricky and can be overwhelming and we did it in three months! Abernethy was very thoughtful and flexible with our schedule. They offer you a complete list of vendors and I would highly suggest using them. Everyone was very familiar with the space and knew how to work together. This made our entire day flow so smooth. We had a morning ceremony and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful wedding experience! Everyone at Abernethy serves a purpose. Elizabeth hammers out all of the details and is in charge of sales and does a great job. Then, the day of you have a separate wedding coordinator who is making things flow and directing guests. So important on the big day. We had a brunch wedding with eggs Benedict with potatoes and bacon and fresh fruit! The food was so tasty! The guys in the kitchen did such a great job! I'm still getting compliments from our guest regarding the food and drinks! Way to go Abernethy! And who doesn't love a good bellini or mimosa on a Saturday morning?! It seems like everyone wants to get married in the summer time when it is warm and sunny. I was one of those brides too. Getting married in the off season made things so much more enjoyable though! Vendors and Abernethy can be really accommodating! Planning is stressful enough, it was nice not feeling rushed by our vendors. Choosing a photographer that was familiar with the grounds really made for exceptional photo opportunities. We had sun in the morning with beautiful spring foliage that turned out great for pictures, but then we had some stormy rain, and that made for some of the best photo opportunities ever! It is really awesome too seeing downtown Oregon City really make a positive turn around. So many cute little bars and restaurants popping up! Definitely check this place out! We were just married at the Abernethy Center a couple of weeks ago - they are great! All staff was very helpful, including and especially our event representative, Laura. She was always very responsive to questions and e-mails, met with us in person when needed, and worked with us closely on our details, budget and any other issues/priorities! As an added plus, Abernethy really came through for us when it looked like the weather was not going to cooperate for an outdoor ceremony. It was such a relief to not only have a "plan b" but for that option to be another beautiful setting! We ended up taking pictures outside, but having the lovely chapel for our ceremony - it was beautiful! I would definitely recommend Abernethy to anyone looking for a wedding venue! read more

The Abernethy Center is an A+ venue to get married at! All of their staff are welcoming, nice, respectful, and helpful. My husband and I were engaged for a year, and my husband and I never had a bad experience there. We worked closely with Karissa, who was a ROCKSTAR. She answered emails timely, and was willing to walk us through anything that we needed. Our day-of coordinator was Lindsey and she was ALSO A ROCKSTAR! It ended up pouring on our wedding day (Sept. 17, 2017), and they let us to do the ceremony under the tent OR outside if the rain stopped. About two hours before, we decided since it hadn't stopped raining that we should have our ceremony under the tent. They let me make the decision, which I really appreciate. Everybody at our wedding raved about the venue itself and food. The day after our wedding, my dad said "it was worth every penny". I would highly recommend the Abernethy Center. read more

So I had my recent wedding at Abernethy Center (Abigail Gardens) . What a fantastic location to have an outdoor wedding!!!!! Our wedding was incredible. I've been to dozens of weddings this year as a vendor and as it stands, this is the number one location so far. As a groom, I was more than impressed! The grounds were fantastic, the staff were exceptional to say the least, and the food was second only to my mom's cookin'. I highly recommend this location to anyone desiring an outdoor ceremony/outdoor reception! Elizabeth was our organizer and she was on top of it and made our wedding absolutely perfect. My husband and I chose the Abernethy Center for our wedding on September 19, 2009. We couldn't have been happier with the outcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the staff, they were very helpful and friendly. They assisted us with planning the "in's and out's" of our day. One reason (and of the main reasons) for choosing this location: BEAUTIFUL grounds! Our pictures turned out beautifully. And, we had a contingency plan for rain, which we ended up not needing (PHEW!) We chose the indoor/outdoor package, which included the Veiled Garden ceremony and Abernethy Ballroom reception. The catering was outstanding, we heard many good things from our guests about the food. We also included an open bar in our package and guests were obviously happy about that ;-) One thing I recommend when setting up your event at the AC is to be clear on "day of" event staff, who will be there as your point person/coordinator. My wife and I were on a photo shoot here last night, and blown away by the notable service. I've shot here several times with great experiences. As a vendor, it is not uncommon to be treated differently than the client that retained their services. I felt as though it was ME that wrote the check... Both my wife and I had the same experience from multiple, accommodating members of the staff. The food was incredible too! The vegetarian meal was amazing, and it's the first time I've heard my Kiwi (New Zealand) wife say that she enjoyed the fruit salad. For all your business convention, work seminar, wedding, bar mitzvah &c. &c. &c. needs. Unless you happen to live in/near the O.C. (Oregon City), this is not a particularly close/convenient locale for most of the rest of the folks in the greater metro area. Unless your idea of commuter heaven is a heavy dose of stop lights and traffic on McGloughlin for miles on end, or the potential parking lot hell of 205 in either direction, this will never be ideally located "for the other 98% of us". The staff @ Abernethy I found to be highly pleasant and accommodating. They made the unpleasant business of just gettin' there a bit more bearable. For this, an extra '*' and a sincere thank you, ladies. The building itself is late model, the pa and video systems seemed reasonably up to date and did not continuously malfunction or otherwise misbehave, although the PA did provide a few unintentional moments of amusement. In sum: the building: serviceable. The staff: friendly, attentive. The zip code: way user unfriendly, for most in attendance. I was a bridesmaid earlier this summer for my dear friends' wedding. And the hospitality was, well, non-existent. The staff was absent. The head bartender was rude. And the food servers were hasty. Being very good friends with both the bride and the groom, I knew that having an open bar for the wedding was a critical detail. And being present for many of the conversations between the groom and the venue personnel, the groom expressed how he and his cousins made a family pact years ago about having an open bar at their weddings. And how they plan to take shots. This was not a hidden fact. At NO time did anyone from the venue explain the extremely over the top conservative venue policies. So at the wedding the head bar tender went on a power trip and cut everyone off from drinking after a formal shot was announced by the dj for everyone to take. But the bartender neglected to explain the policy to anyone. Failed to actually reference the policy in any literature. And attempted to fabricate Oregon statutes. Little did he know that both the bride and groom and majority of the wedding party and guests are attorneys. Also, the bartender cut people off from the bar who were not only absolutely sober, but didn't even have a drink the whole night. Another thing, the staff removed the food from the buffet line before everyone had a chance to get food. The food was out for fewer than 20 minutes. And again this was another thing that the groom discussed with the venue months in advance. Explaining that in certain cultures, people wait to get food last making sure that others got their food and whatnot. And when the groom brought this to the attention of the staff he was dismissed. The whole thing made the bride and the groom shut down their own wedding over an hour early and relocate it to the bar across the street. With all this said, the wedding and ceremony was great. And we all had a blast but nothing can be attributed to this venue. Just the bride and groom themselves. Well, I guess the golf cart escorting was cool, but that's it. We got married on 5/17/22 in Abigail's Garden! We did a walk through of all the venue sites at the Abernethy Center with Kassandra in August 2021 and we fell in love with all of them! We decided to book Abigail's Garden and had the chapel as a back up in case of rain. They even gave us a first responder/law enforcement discount; which was amazing! Kassandra was so helpful and patient with us. We had so many questions for her and she was so quick to respond via email. We appreciated that she was transparent in her answers and in her communications in general. After we booked, the Abernethy Center made some changes to their offerings that we were so bummed about, such as no longer offering lawn games or audio equipment, but Kassandra quickly came to the rescue and said she would make sure the lawn games were there for our wedding (and our guests loved them!). On our big day, everything was so smooth, there wasn't one single issue at any point. Or if there was, it was handled quietly and we didn't even notice! The Abernethy Center assigned a staff member to us to help with anything throughout our day, and she was the absolute sweetest and most attentive person ever. She continually checked on me and made sure I didn't need anything, and she made sure our drinks and plates were full during the reception. We can't say enough about her. The bartender was awesome and interacted with our guests, and even took some photos with their phones. Overall, it was a great experience. She has no patience with me or my fiance. I was so embarrassed to even bring my fiance here. Someone told me to give this place a shot, but I will not ever recommend this place to ANYONE. The entire planning process was fine, but tell me why after months of sending info such as ring bearer, flower girls, etc that the day of coordinator didn't have that information the day of my wedding and had to interrupt a stressful time for me (the bride) while I was about to walk down the aisle. Food was okay. I didn't even want to finish it. The most frustrating and heartbreaking part was that my wedding was scheduled to be an elopement after changing it over and over again and it was supposed to be outside the church where the building itself was so beautiful I didn't need to buy more than just table decor. Well, THE DAY OF my wedding they email me to say I should move my reception inside because of how hot it was. Fine, but what I didn't think about was how I only bought decor to fit the outside and how the walls were so bare and ugly inside the room our reception ended up being in. They even left a huge (outdoor/not sure exactly what for but huge and ugly) sign in the corner of the room that I noticed after my photographer sent my photos back to me. Honestly I'm heartbroken and I try not to think about my wedding because all I can think about is how bad my photos looked because of how empty and sad the room was. I wish they would have done some research on the weather at least the week of so I had some time to make the room look more intentional. It is what it is I guess. It can't be redone. read more

We just had our wedding at Abernethy Center, and I could not be more pleased. The site is gorgeous and they have everything you could want for a spectacular day. Want a gorgeous garden? They've got two. A quaint Chapel? Check. An elegant ballroom? Got it. An amazing venue that people are still talking about? Abernethy Center is the place! We wanted an elegant and sophisticated wedding, and the various settings with the ceremony in the Chapel, cocktail hour in the Veiled Garden, and dinner and dancing in the Ballroom gave us exactly what we wanted. However, they have several options so that you can design your own ideal setting. Here were our top 10 favorite things: 10. The Chapel -- from the front with the picture-perfect steps and steeple to the backdrop of the gorgeous trees behind the windows of the Chapel -- it is all perfect. 9. The Chapel bell ringing at the end of the ceremony. 8. The lush garden setting which gave a gorgeous variety of settings for our photographs and then a perfect setting for our cocktail party. 7. The elegant ballroom with marble entry, expandability, and great dance floor. 6. The food. 5. The food. 4. The food. I'm not just using up numbers here; it's really that good. Our guests were raving about it. It was "the quality you'd expect at a top-notch restaurant, not a wedding venue" was what we've heard said many times. 3. The extraordinary level of service. We could not be more impressed with the level of service that we received. It was above and beyond at every step along the way. 2. The staff. From the planning to the rehearsal to the ceremony to the party to the cleanup, every member of the staff that we interacted with was extraordinarily professional and helpful. They made us feel like they were partners in the planning and delivery of our perfect day. And #1: Our wedding! Although everyone keeps talking about what a great event it was, no one had a better time that day than me, the bride. I got married in Abigail's Garden a month ago, and it was absolutely the best day, ever! Everything went perfectly, in most part, thanks to Abernethy Center and its staff. I have to credit Abernethy with helping me find some amazing vendors, such as my photographers (Steele Photography), and ceremony musicians (Duo Con Brio). When my husband and I booked our wedding at Abernethy Center, we were given a packet that included a list of their preferred vendors, leading us to the aforementioned vendors, who all helped contribute to such a perfect day! So, you can say that the Abernethy Center was beyond helpful from the start. And that service didn't end there- a few months before our wedding, we my husband and I were invited to a Chef's preview, where we got to meet with a few vendors, and most importantly, sample delicious food; make a decision for our dinner menu. At the Chef's preview, we were given a menu worksheet where we rated the foods and narrowed them down to what we wanted for our menu. That worksheet was left with our event specialist, Elizabeth, who kept it on hand for us until we had our details meeting with her. In this meeting, we were able to discuss not only menu, but decor, timeline, etc. Getting to discuss those things in person definitely helped alleviate some wedding planning stress! Especially since we found out they were willing to work with us on some timeline/setting up issues we had been worrying about. They were very kind and understanding about everything! A few weeks before the wedding, we received an event timeline of our wedding day (which helped us to plan photo times, etc), and we were given a wedding worksheet to fill out, which would be given to our ceremony specialist for our rehearsal and wedding day. At our rehearsal, we were greeted by our ceremony specialist, Lindsey. She was very sweet and understanding, even though we had to start the rehearsal late because some of the bridal party showed up late. During rehearsal, Lindsey managed to gather the bridal party and line everyone up for processional/recessional. She let us run through that until we felt confident everything would run smoothly on wedding day, and guess what? It did! Everything from our arrival to our departure went insanely well! There were snacks and drinks waiting for the bridal party when we arrived! And I knew Lindsey was out and about taking care of vendor and family questions so that my husband and I could relax and enjoy our day. I know we would have been stressed, had we not had a day of coordinator (which is actually one of the main reasons I booked Abernethy Center in the first place). Lindsey was fantastic! She was super helpful, and was always there to guide us and the bridal party, and she made sure everything was effortless for us! She even served our dinner to us, even though we were having a buffet style dinner. I thought that was a nice touch! And the food- it was SO GOOD! We received lots of compliments from guests about how much they enjoyed the food. For dessert, we originally had opted to have a dessert bar that Abernethy provides (which we still did!), but then asked Abernethy Center if they'd be willing to add on a Smore's bar for us, and they did! And it looked wonderful! The smore's bar was a HUGE HIT! Everyone loved all of the desserts offered! We received a lot of compliments on the desserts/smores as well! Once the night was over, we were given a to-go bag of food, dessert, and cider. We thought that was a really wonderful touch! Everyone (especially my husband and I) enjoyed our time in Abigail's Garden! Everything was SO BEAUTIFUL and turned out PERFECTLY! The gazebo and tent looked amazing with our decorations (it definitely helps that Abernethy Center makes it easy to customize your venue to your vision, which is another reason we booked with Abernethy) and the staff was so kind and accommodating! It seemed to us that the they truly cared, as they were with us every step of the way -from booking to our departure on wedding day- to ensure that our day was as special as it could possibly be.
