    Pretzels with mustard
    Jennifer B.

I have heard good things about this brewery and was finally in the area. Easy to find and plenty of free street parking. Love this! They have a nicely air conditioned inside and patio seating too. We choose the bar. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the beers, happy hour, and food. Ordered one happy hour and one non-happy hour beer. Both delicious. My Unicorn sour didn't have lactose either. Yay! Ordered happy hour apps: chips and verde salsa and pretzels with mustard. Plenty of other bites for omnivores on the menu. Food portions are large, flavors were good, and prices were right. While this was a quick trip, I'd definitely come back to try more beers and food.

    Walleye taco

My husband and I had a beer and lunch today and were disappointed in the food quality/quantity for the price. I had the two walleye tacos with sweet potato fries. My fries were larger than the sliver of walleye in my tacos. The tacos alone were $12.00 for two with the fries being a separate charge. Pathetic excuse for a fish taco. My husband had a hamburger that was overcooked and dry. The bun was toasted to the point of being nearly burnt. We've eaten here in the past and enjoyed it. We arrived when the place opened so there is no excuse for overcooked food and the poor portioning of the fish is an embarrassment. Aberrant, you can do better!

Stopped for a beer on the way to a place. Great beer and good sense of humor. Will be back to try some food!

I have been to this restaurant several times for brunch and dinner. The service is always pretty good and it is a fun spot. I really like their beer and find that they always have a good selection on tap. I like sour beer and they always have a fun fruity sour option. I get the chicken nuggets a decent amount and recommend those. I am not a fan of their breakfast, largely due to the fact that they do not have bacon in any of their dishes. I recently got the garden hash and it was tasty but pretty greasy, made my stomach hurt a little. The avocado toast was also pretty average.

This place is great for beers, cornhole and also some occasional live music. The staff (Lee & team) are super awesome - friendly, responsive and caring. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are large. Interesting that you can see the cooks making your food - kind of cool to watch. We love this place and will continue to frequent it. It's worth the time my friends!

My husband and I drove out to downtown Howell looking for somewhere new to add to our collection of places to eat/drink... and we are so glad we stopped at Aberrant Ales! We chose to sit outside (dog friendly) and enjoyed beer, cider, chips & salsa, a pizza, and cheeseburgers sliders. The drink/tap menu is a touch smaller, but we both found things we could enjoy (I specifically loved the cherry cider), and we found the food to be pretty good for the middle of Michigan. Our waitress was super sweet & attentive and the facility was clean. We also noticed there was corn-hole inside to play, which would be fun after a few drinks with some friends!

We had a larger group, about 12 (10 adults, 2 kids) and were seated at an "L" shaped table formed by pushing 2 differently shaped tables together, meaning half of our group couldn't see the other half without having to swing around or endure a cricked neck. Our server was pleasant, and attentive in the beginning. Before our appetizers had even arrived, we were already being asked for meal orders. Kinda felt rushed, but put our meal orders in and the appetizers came out. They were all very tasty, and the new pickle fries with ranch were very tasty. Would have been better if the silverware came out before the appetizers came, but maybe the wash washers were backed up from the all of the prom diners that were just leaving. Either way, we had a Second Lady bringing over silverware, so we had to wait to eat until she got there. Shortly after, our entrees arrived, also very delicious! I got the "Pick 2" BBQ items with 2 sides. One of my sides was incorrect, but the severs corrected it the mistake quickly. At this point, the entire table needed refills but the wait staff had completely disappeared for our half of the dining room. I observed other tables (like a couple in a booth kitty-corner from us) was looking around for assistance while I was. It was nearly 30 minutes before a server swung by again to get empty plates out of the way. I don't know if they were trying to get us to leave or what, but joke's on them, we still had presents and cupcakes to do! After our table was FINALLY cleared of enough played and empty cups to conclude our birthday celebration, we enjoyed our cupcakes from M Street Bakery. The wait staff didn't offer us any clean small plates so we had to have our deserts from their wrappers or off of our leftover dirty plates. Honestly, we could have asked for desert plates but we should have been offered them by the waitstaff. Our group explained in the beginning that we're would have separate checks, and when the checks came,it took multiple times for the splits to be done correctly, and one check had to be voided and a credit card transaction had to be refunded and Ran again because the wrong check was charged for the wrong items. I'm willing to give Block Brewing another shot, not on a holiday/school weekend. Maybe we had walked in after a HS dance tornado had just blown through, and everyone was just pooped. It just kinda felt like our whole group was kind of an afterthought and we were put in a corner: out of sight, out of mind.

Their cornbread was so moist and had a nice flavor. The breading on the chicken was perfectly cooked and had a nice sweet flavor. We decided on the bread pudding for dessert which was easily a shareable item. So much flavor and wasn't too overly sweet with the candied pecans and sweet drizzle topping. Having those available would make it easier to stay longer and accommodate a wider variety of guests. Even so, it's a great spot for beer lovers looking for a distinctive brewery experience.

However, during our most recent visit, we noticed quite a few changes from previous years, and unfortunately, not all for the better. They no longer have the scenic hayride that used to include a free donut and a cup of apple cider with your ticket purchase. Now, it's $5 per person, and instead of a peaceful scenic ride, it stops at every station and they no longer give you a donut & cider with ticket purchase. When we asked about the change, we were told it was because they weren't making money off the old setup. I understand businesses need to adjust, but it really took away from the experience. That scenic ride with the cider and donut was always one of the highlights for us ; something we truly looked forward to every year. They did add more bouncy houses for the kids, which is nice, but the ones they had before were just as fun. The food was about the same, decent, but nothing special. It was noticeably more expensive this year. $5 for a single ear of corn felt excessive. On the positive side, the cinnamon donuts are still amazing, and the apple cider is as delicious as ever. I also enjoyed the wine tasting, which is always fun, though seating is still limited and could be improved. Overall, the visit just didn't have the same charm or warmth as before. We still had an okay time, but it didn't feel as memorable as past years. Sadly, I think this might be our last year visiting, we'll probably look for a new orchard next fall.
