I went with my husband and son. I had a beautiful falafel salad. Especially liked the homemade pickled radish. Good portion, perfect dressing. My son and husband had the shawarma pita (chicken and beef) lunch combo with fries. They both enjoyed their wraps and the delicious and generous amount of fries. We'll be back! By chance, I happened upon Basha's because its rear facade borders the wooded easement surrounding the upscale hotel where I had holed up for the night. Otherwise, viewed from a speeding car in the racing traffic turmoil of Vestal Parkway, it is easy to pass by Basha's small storefront. In Binghamton, the dismal commercial stretch of stereotypical American highway is a disaster zone of urban planning, if it had any planning at all. Competing with the neon glitz of IHOP next door and Wendy's and Dunkin' across the street, on its outside Basha's appears unassuming. Don't assume the rest. Ever on the prowl for the perfect dish of Baba Ghanoush, for dinner I ordered two takeout portions of Basha's BG, here spelled "Baba Ghannouj." I wish I had ordered more to pack with me for breakfast and lunch for my drive home the next morning. I struck Baba Ghanoush gold here. This was the best BG I had eaten in the past five years, and probably in my entire life. Not coincidentally, the other best BG had also been served at a Lebanese family's restaurant in Mystic, CT, near where I live, but which closed five years ago due to the chef's failing health. The Lebanese mom of that mom-and-pop (actually, bro-and-sis) restaurant shared with me the secret to her wonder dish. She roasted the eggplants almost daily and added no chickpeas as a filler. If you are a stranger to authentic Baba Ghanoush, don't judge BG by the mass market pasteurized glop sold in stores, as some contain so little eggplant that you would suspect it only because it is listed in the ingredients. By inference, Basha's hummus is probably just as glorious as its big BG. The next time I visit Binghamton (which probably will be never, because who the heck would want to visit Binghamton), I will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Basha's, and will gorge myself on both. If you live in the Binghamton tri-city area, count yourself fortunate that you can feast year round on Basha's Baba Ghanoush. read more

We were hungry looking for lunch, we wanted something different and my wife found this local Lebanese Grill, right next to SUNY Binghamton, upon arrival we noticed only take out service, which is great because i feel safe eating in my car. We order a grilled chicken shawarma pita sandwich meal with fries and a soda, kafta pita (ground beef) and a side of baba ghannouj which also came with pita slices. The food was reasonably priced, better than expected as this was our first visit. Took about 15 minutes from the point of ordering and that tells me the food was freshly made. Great experience, our favorite was the baba ghannouj, so creamy and smoky, i could have that as a meal. read more

My family recently ate here while in Vestel. The food was fresh and came out quickly. I had beef shawarma with salad and humus, my hubby had the mixed shawarma with fries and humus. Ok, so first thing's first. This is the first Mediterranean place I've tried that delivers that also has garlic sauce. This is a MUST for me. Hubby got lamb kabob, and he liked them. I got the chicken/beef combo and wasn't impressed by the meat-a bit tasteless and dry. Rice pilaf is very nice. Fries were pretty standard. Hummus was good, pretty hard to mess up. Meat pie was very nice. Pitas were thin, which I like because then you don't fill up on it, but they were also durable and didn't fall apart. Baklava was VERY nice. Definitely repeating. I inhaled my food before I could take a picture. My only complaint is that it didn't last forever. This is some of the best Lebanese food I've ever had and o didn't want it to end. The falafel is magical, the toum (garlic sauce) is possibly more addicting than actual drugs, the chicken is perfectly seasoned, and the baba ghanoush is smokey deliciousness. I'm from Buffalo in town for work and can't wait to come back. I may get more to-go on my way back to Buffalo tomorrow. read more

I have no idea what would make the food here authentic or not, I couldn't care less. All that matters to me is that it tastes good. What I do know is that the Chicken Shawarma sandwich is to die for. I love it and get it all the time. I'm not sure why it has taken me as long as it has to review this place. My family typically gets the chicken shawarma and loves it. The fries that come with the platter and rice are always satisfying. Finally, and I recognize this isn't a lebanese dish, but the Baklava there is to die for. I love Baklava and have had it over the years and it is by far the best I've ever had. I'd drive there just to get it all by itself. read more

Before I start my review, I just want to say that the owners were really nice people. That said, being a middle-easterner myself, I went there expecting real authentic middle eastern food. I ordered two beef shawarma platters and a side of falafel. The beef they used was not actual shawarma, it was the philly cheesesteak-style, pre-frozen kind you buy from the freezer aisle, which really disappointed me. Anyway, it was dry and flavorless, and the fries that came with the platter were soggy. I suspect that they were made earlier in the day, not when I ordered them. The falafel was the only thing I enjoyed, even though I could tell that it was also pre-bought and fried. My biggest irritation however (and this is also a huge pet peeve of mine) was that the portion sizes were way too small for the price paid. Overall, I paid way too much, and the food was very low quality. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend, I'm sure there is another restaurant in the area within the price range of Basha's. read more

Sorry but the food is just not up to snuff. The stuffed grape leaves were canned. The flat bread was defrosted and stale. The service was fast food style. I was one of two customers in the whole restaurant at dinner trine. The hummus and baba ganoush were too "creamy". I suspect some mayo had been added. The lentil soup was unseasoned and basically a tasteless gruel. Again, none of the ingredients tasted fresh. I've had Lebanese food before (on PEI, Canada. In Charlottetown. Where there is a large Lebanese community). The food was fresh and well seasoned with a blend of tastes and textures. This was not the case at. Basha's. Their prices are high for the area; e.g. $9.00 for an appetizer sampler. $4.00 for a cup of lentil soup. The food quality does not warrant the pricing. I would not recommend Basha's. read more

Ordered take-out tonight for dinner and we all really enjoyed our meal. We ordered basha's maza, chicken shawarma platter and kofta platter. The meats were seasoned really well and not overly salted. The platters came with pilaf which was really good. We especially enjoyed the hommos and baba ghanooj spreads - they were creamy and the baba ghanooj was a perfect smokey. The side salads that came with the platters were nothing special but were fresh and a welcome addition. The one disappointment was the bread - it was a little thinner than expected and was more of a "wrap" than bread but perhaps that is Lebanese bread? We really enjoyed our meal and were a bit skeptical to try the place since my parents say they've never really seen it busy. Maybe most of their business is delivery? They do deliver - but essentially only to campus. Their delivery range is small (1.5mi) but they did mention that if it was a slow night, they would deliver a little further. We will definitely order from them again and I hope they stay open. I'd love to see more locally owned restaurants on the parkway. Food was fresh and tasty and we have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow that we'll definitely enjoy. read more

I can't believe we have not tried Basha's before. We went for lunch last week. The place is very clean. Seating is comfortable. Ordered at the front of the store and then they cooked our food. We ordered Trio Platters with salad and rice for the two choices of sides that comes with the platter. The three meats are cubed chicken on a stick, beef Kafta, which is marinated ground beef log, and beef cubes and veggies on a stick. All were very flavorful. The small container of creamy white garlic paste goes really nicely with all the meats. The salad is dressed lightly and very fresh. Rice is so very tasty. The order also came with warm flatbread and a small container of hummus for each platter. To me, the true test of any food is if I crave it after I finished eating. I told the owner when we finished eating that I could go back the next day and eat there again the next day. We did exactly that. Fresh ingredients, cook to order, tasty food, reasonably priced, clean place, casual but relaxing. What a pleasant experience. read more

I am half Lebanese and have been eating/cooking this food for my entire life. Needless to say, I can be a harsh critic, always comparing Mid East restaurants with my mother's cooking, and mine. Basha's is legit, delicious, fresh and vibrant Lebanese cuisine. Nothing is saturated in oil, which allows individual textures and flavors to come through, as they should. I have tried almost everything in the menu but my favorite is the falafel. Year after year I try falafel at various places and I never love it but Basha's is simply perfect. Lightly crisped on the outside, soft and perfectly seasoned on the inside. I also love the tabouli, although no one makes it quite like Mom. Theirs is close! Again, it's not a soggy mess - the parsley feels and tastes like parsley, etc. Anything with lamb is always a treat! My son is a vegetarian and of course he always finds great things to eat here - When you walk in you order and pay at the counter and then go have a seat in the dining room. They bring your food when it is ready. We've never had to wait too terribly long but please know they are making it fresh for you, so it's not "fast food". The portion sizes are kinda perfect! Not too much, never too little. The place is always tidy. - I highly recommend you add this to your list of healthy but delicious restaurants in Broome County. read more
