First, let me say that the food here is very good, and I frequently stop here for dinner. Unfortunately, my experience with the service today was extremely disappointing. I placed my takeout order at 6:00 p.m. and was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I arrived at approximately 6:45 p.m., giving the restaurant more than enough time to prepare my order. I work directly across the street and needed to be at work by 7:00 p.m. When I arrived, my food was packed and ready to go. The waitress rang up my order, but then walked away to seat guests who had just entered then returned so I could sign my receipt. Before leaving, I checked my bag and discovered that two items were missing. I politely brought this to her attention. She appeared irritated that I interrupted her while she was speaking with other guests and went to the back to retrieve the missing items. When she returned, I realized another item was still missing and let her know. Her response was, "I know," and she walked away. I could see that she had my missing item in her hand, but instead of giving it to me, she went to the register by the bar and began entering drink orders for guests who had arrived after me. At that point, I approached her again and politely explained that I needed to get to work and asked how much longer it would take. She then handed me the item she had been holding. I did not leave the restaurant until approximately 6:58 p.m., which caused me to be late for work. I also feel it is important to mention something that made this interaction particularly uncomfortable for me. I am Black, while the guests who arrived after me and were repeatedly prioritized appeared to be Mexican/Latino. I cannot say what motivated the waitress's behavior, but the noticeable difference in how I was treated compared with those guests left me wondering whether racial bias played a role. Regardless of the reason, no customer should feel ignored or intentionally made to wait while customers who arrived afterward are prioritized. I have been a repeat customer because I genuinely enjoy the food, which makes this experience especially disappointing. Customers should not be made to feel like an inconvenience when simply asking for items they ordered and paid for. Good food matters, but so does treating every customer with courtesy, respect, and equal consideration. read more

Abi Azteca is my go to place for papusas in the area. I especially like the ayote papusas, which are made with zucchini and cheese. Everything is very fresh, including the curtido. They're open late and have plenty of seating in a cozy, clean space. The service is very friendly, there's plenty of parking, and the prices are great. read more

Monday 5/27/2024 I made an order for takeout (through google) and got: tamal de pollo $2.95, empanada de platano $3.50, burrito abi (shredded chicken) $10.95, and fajita abi $20.95. - Fajita abi (a mix of 3 proteins: chicken, steak, and shrimp) * this dish is pretty solid but I was expecting the portions of steak and shrimp to be a bit more than what I got. * (rating: 7.4/10) - Burriti abi * this burrito was alright but a bit messy and I was expecting burrito to be a bit bigger. * (rating: 6.7/10) - Empanda de Platano * this was easily my favorite item: sprinkled lightly with sugar and tastes just like a platain. It's a unique and tasty item but I see it as more of a "fritter" rather than an Empanda. (Definitely an item I'd come back for) * (rating: 8.1/10) - Tamal de pollo * this was my first time trying a tamale and it's a no for me. This was my first time trying this place and it was really good!!!! I got the steak fajitas which came with three tortillas (your choice of corn or flour tortillas). I, personally, got flour and it was delish! The meat, rice, beans, guacamole, and pica de gallo were amazing, too! I have nothing bad to say about this place! He seemed like it was a burden to serve me at first, but life is hard, so I didn't think too much about it. So after he finally comes to me, he ask me do I want a drink, I said yes, and I ask if they had Howler Head he said no, I was about to order another drink and within 3 seconds he just walked away, to the other side of the bar in the middle of me ordering. I waited to see if maybe he had to severe someone else, but he did not to serve someone else, we walked away to do bar work and throw trash away. It's difficult to maintain that melty feeling when deep-frying meat, but the yucca too?! :( At least the seasoning was perfect. Now the beef fajita meat was DE-LICIOUS. Seasoning, taste, doneness, presentation, everything. Could've used more green peppers to balance out the ton of onion, but still delicious! Which leads me to the rice. It looked like something you'd find in your school cafeteria, and tasted like it too. The beans were fine on their own, and tasted OK with the meat and tortilla. The pico de gallo, guac, and sour cream were excellent. I loved how you could taste both tomato and lime, instead of straight citrus. They also offer papusas, which looked alright and tasted the same. The filling wasn't blended properly. If anything, I would order the empanada de platano with marañon again, but that's it. I've passed this place many times and have never really thought much about it until I was craving Mexican and in Germantown with limited options. Yelp helped me yet again. We arrived on a Friday evening at approximately 6:30 and the place as fairly empty that changed quickly. At first I noticed many Latinos. I'm a firm believer that if there are a lot of representatives of the culture in which food you are about to eat, it's gotta be good. I was right! We ordered jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and they were super hot with an enchilada sauce. For my entree I ordered shrimp wrapped in bacon off the "specials" menu. I loved it so much that I would plead to the menu gods to put it on the permanent menu. The shrimp was very good, but the bacon made the entire dish. The beans were pretty good, but the shrimp was the star of the show. So hot, so good. I'm craving it already and I haven't even left the restaurant yet! Now for the Service. Every single staff member in the place (besides the bartender) visited our table. Whether to pick up the empty plates, drop off food, ask for a drink refill was needed, etc. you get the point. My wife and I have been going here for ten years. For nine of them, we only had great things to say. Lately, we've had issues. Primarily it's with one waitress on multiple occasions. Today, for example, we had five meals ordered. Two were wrong, one was missing. We received no utensils. Refills were a problem. We couldn't get things like napkins. We ended up having to ask for a different waitress, who did help. With that said, it was disappointing to have to pay full price at the end for disappointing service. If management happens to read this, I would be happy to discuss to it with you. We'd love to see it return to the reliable ABI we loved. And both of us ended up getting to go boxes. They give you a nice amount of food for the price that you pay. And all of the sauces are made from scratch which I appreciate at any authentic tex-mex restaurant! I decided on the lunch special which provided me à la cart tacos. My carnet a Sada taco, reminded me of the ones that I have had in Texas as well as San Diego. Very very flavorful! My friend decided on the quesadilla Mexicana which was HUGE! Fresh tamarindo juice was pretty good. Appetizer: Jalapeño cream cheese poppers are pickled In vinegar then fried. (Didn't like). Ceviche shrimp has no crackers to eat with so literally eating sour shrimp alone. The green salsa (not Spicy ) was watered down along with the tomato sauce they service with the chips (didn't like the salsas). They do not have other salsas except bottled ones. I ordered a couple of chicken tacos with rice and beans and all of it was delicious. Not entirely sure why this place seems to be dead all the time based on my experience and other reviewers. The only thing I have to knock a point off is for their seafood. They advertise it on the sign and that's fine, but the only other dude in there ordered some fish and within seconds it stank up the whole place. I mean, I have no problem with seafood and it wasn't a foul smell, but it just permeated the whole place like nobody's business. I'm glad I was finishing my food at that point. I order from this restaurant faithfully at least 3-5 times a month, come in with my family and usually the service is well. and usually my order is correct. today 11/19/23 it was unpleasant. i asked for my food to be separated in the notes on the beyond menu app because i didnt want the beans to fall over on the pupusas which was exactly the case or for the pupusas to be soggy from the salad juice , asked for plain white rice because i have food allergy to onions....then i had to make TWO purchases because you arent able to order a drink online, so i had to once again pay them. i have come in and mentioned this issue before. the bartender manager guy was rude about it when again mentioned it. for someone to be a manager and see me a customer so frequently i didnt feel valued at all as a customer this day . i told him his response is how to lose customers. as i stated before i faithfully go here and today horrible experience and thats truly sad another thing, you never know who speaks multiple languages, for the waiter and waitress to speak negatively about me in spanish is disgusting, especially since i understood them perfectly read more

Hector provided excellent service and was very attentive. The chips were nice and warm but think the salsa was too watery. I ordered the Plato Típico and did not disappoint. The Harina tortillas are the best. From my table one person ordered the Lomo saltado and expected Peruvian lomo saltado, the dish I think was a Central American version of lomo saltado therefore I recommend you skip it and stick to Central American dishes. The Piña colada was good. Lastly in regards to desserts, flan was decent but the cassava and cheese dessert was not a hit. Will be back to try more Central American dishes. read more

This is what I ordered: Azteca Trio Three enchiladas: one shrimp, one fish, and one crab. Topped with green sauce and cheese; serve with black beans, chimol and guacamole. What I got: Three enchiladas, NO green sauce. Only one had cream sauce drizzled on it. The rest had no sauce so they were essentially tortillas with seafood with some melted cheese= dry. No guacamole and no chimol. The details matter because it affects the flavor and texture of the whole meal. The ones that were without sauce, I ended up just eating the filling because who wants to eat dried tortillas with dried melted cheese on it?The one enchilada (crab) that had a cream (not green sauce) was very flavorful and made of real crab. I am getting ever closer to my 100th Yelp review, I am really going to do something special for review number 100. Anyway, for Mexican food I have two rules, the first is the Salsa must be good. The second is that the guacamole has to be good. There are many good places in town and ABI Azteca is one of them. Not great, but you never get bad food at Azteca. It is always good food. Plus I have to say their chips are really good! The first time I went I was there for lunch - great service and we were in and out in less than 30 minutes. The second time we went as a family, good service, good view of the soccer game on TV overall a great experience. We don't have small children, but we do have kids, they were comfortable and enjoyed their meals so it is a go - to again place! Ordered veggie burrito for delivery. Came smothered in wet tomato salsa, so the tortilla got so soggy I had to eat the whole thing with a spoon. Not a fun or appetizing experience. Wet tortilla is a pretty awful texture. Not sure why the avocado was on the side rather then in the burrito itself. They did honor my request for sour cream inside, so I give a star for that. And the portion was very big, so adding another one. Filling had three kernels of corn a few green peas. Very weird. Probably should have been avoided altogether. Great Scott! We stopped here after a hike, and my wife wanted margaritas. So, we yelped our way here. What a great place! We had fantastic (and cheap) drinks, and the staff was very nice. We were seated outside, had our chips and delicious salsa and ordered some food. Since we had just done a hike, I decided to eat anything I wanted....pretty much like I always do even if I don't go for a hike. The Plata Tipico it was. This is a NY steak, avocado, plantains and the ever present rice and beans. It was very filling, and awesome. They have a few different hot sauces which is always a plus for me. We came here late Saturday night (for the first time), hungry as a bear. We said lets order take out and go back home. The moment we walked through the door we got a very warm welcome by Nelly. Worry free, she told us to sit down and order as we pleased and ended up, very easily, convincing us to stay and eat in. The best most personable experience I've ever had at a restaurant. By far Nelly made the entire experience enjoyable. She was very attentive and knew how to make you feel important. The food was quickly served and it was delicious. If you're looking for good Mexican food in the area, this is the spot. I used to go to Mi Rancho but then we found a very long unclaimed hair in our salsa and vowed never to return. ABI is clean, well decorated and has friendly staff. Like others have noted, the restaurant is pretty empty but several guest were in and out during my wait for takeout. Nelly was great and assisted us in ordering the combination fajitas (chicken and shrimp) and the beef and cheese enchiladas. We had water and salsa during the wait and Nelly checked in on us a few times. After about fifteen minutes our orders were presented and everything came out just as we ordered. I also want to note that I requested a few extra condiments and was not charged anything extra. :-) The food was great and this will be my go to for Mexican in the future. My first sign to run should have been that it was 75% empty on Cinco de Mayo. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it was obvious that this visit would be short. The staff did not welcome or seat us (it's not like they were busy or anything), so we made our way to the bar. The bartender wasn't very welcoming either, but at least he acknowledged our presence. The chips and salsa were gross. The chips tasted stale and the salsa looked like a bowl of watery tomato paste with onions bobbing around in it. And it tasted about as good as that sounds. YUCK! I mean, how do you mess up chips and salsa?!? I decided to order a margarita with sugar while I scanned the menu. What I received tasted like a glass full of margarita mix. It was not balanced, shaken, or blended. I bet the bartender did little more than pour something from a jug over ice and sit it in front of me. My boyfriend was equally unimpressed and recommended that we go to one of the better Mexican spots in the area instead. I happily agreed. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is good music playing. It has a good Latin vibe. We got beef and chicken Fajita, shrimp and scallop fajita. My son tried Kid steak. We thought all the food was really good. One thing to note is that you need to read the menu carefully regarding the drinks. When they brought me my margarita, it was enormous.
