I called Ability Scooters to see if I needed an appointment for an electric wheelchair and if they had the paperwork for Medicare so insurance would be able to cover all or part the cost of the electric wheelchair. The kind woman who answered the phone directed me to San Antonio & New Braunfels locations that are contracted with Medicare even though it is not with them. Such kindness and honesty is becoming harder to find in any type of store, but especially any medical supply or durable medical equipment stores. She did give me the price range for the chairs they have at Ability Scooters just so I had an idea of how much an electric wheelchair costs. I wish Medicare had contracted through them because the staff is so kind and asked all the right questions to see what kind of electric wheelchair I need. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! I recently had foot surgery, and Ability Scooters was so incredibly helpful! They delivered the scooter right to my door and then came and picked it up when I no longer needed it. The knee scooter was an absolute life saver during the time when I could not put pressure on my foot. Gave me mobility because I had a difficult time on crutches. If you need a knee scooter or similar ability device, go here! I spent three days looking up 85 BCBS approved knee scooter providers, only to find it was cheaper, faster, and nicer to pay the price at this place. This is a small business, that had incredibly more options then anywhere else. The people that work there are super kind, and I was able to get extensions easily over the phone. I also appreciated that you can rent something that is an expensive piece to purchase since we will only be needing it for 2 weeks. I also asked for some additional items and he took the time to show us how they work. This time kind gentleman at the store-if I'm not mistaken his name was Bill-gave detail information on pro and cons between manual transport wheelchair and fold-able scooter, to help me making the best decision according to my needs as I was about to travel with my 70 year old mother who has total paralyses on her left side. He was attentive and truly genuine in trying to help-not to sale or made me pick the more expensive items. I decided to rent the scooter, very happy with the decision as my mom able to enjoy her mini vacation to the fullest with ability to be more independent and mobile. We went on a family vacation to San Antonio this past weekend and Day 1, my mom slips and hurts her already bad ankle. UGH! I searched and could only find two places that rent wheelchairs. Ability Scooters was closest so I called. They were extremely helpful on the phone (I was worried about it fitting in our small trunk) . Then we went to pick it up and they showed us how to collapse it and use . They were very patient and reasonably priced $40 for 2-3 days.
