The Motorcycle Shop is an unassuming garage at the north end of Austin Highway. You would expect a business called The Motorcycle Shop to cater to motorcycle riders, but it's more of a Vespa and scooter shop from the looks of the outside. Indeed, from other reviews, it appears their focus is on scooters. However, one desperate weekend, I was changing brake pads on my bike only to release I had the wrong part for my rear brake. This was, as is my modus operandi, a realization I had only after disassembling the caliper. Now, I've known of the The Motorcycle Shop from my daily commute but never been inside it. In a moment of desperation, I called them up and asked if they had the correct brakepad in stock. They, in fact, did. I asked them to hold the part for me and raced over there. Looks can be deceiving. The shop is larger inside than it looks from the outside and they sell various new and used motorcycles as well as scooters. I don't buy new so I can't speak on their pricing for bikes. There was a substantial wait at the parts counter. Lots of jib jabbing of the salesman variety. In all honestly, if I hadn't needed the part, I would have walked out and found one elsewhere. Eventually, a salesman noticed I was milling about and interrupted the man at the parts counter so I could pick up what I came for. They sell a fair amount of bolt on accessories, helmets, jackets, and the like. Nothing to write home about. They have mechanics on site, but I did not deal with them. If you're into scooters, this is probably your spot. If you are looking for a shop or to buy a motorcycle, well maybe. There are other motorcycle garages nearby with better reputations. More like a Scooter Shop! This isn't so much a motorcycle place. Yea, you can get motorcycle stuff, but for the most part these are gas powered scooters, like Vespas. I don't think this is a place I'd go for an Indian Motorcycle, or a Harley Davidson. They do repairs, I got to go through their garage. They have a lot of tools back here, and lots of people who have their bikes getting worked on. They seem to be an authorized dealer, and can get the official parts. These guys also sell accessories- things that you can install on your Vespa, bags to put on the front, they have the helmets. The store is jam packed with scooters they're selling, ones they're working on, and ones that they just kinda keep around because they're cool. I just like cruising through their inventory of different Vespas! They have all the connections for the other work that's not mechanical that they don't do- like leather works, or paint jobs. It's a shame that they don't offer scooter school classes on how to get Class M Certified Drivers Licenses. read more

This place has changed so much since the current owner's dad ran it, so many years ago. Night and day. Mostly bikes of iffy quality. Used to be a cool just plain motorcycle place. Now it's, what bike fits your price range, gets you out the door with outrageous destination charges and fees! Just a business, and watch out if you're getting maintenance done. read more

Wow what an amazing store! Jason (owner) and his team are amazing both in knowledge and service. Jason comes from a family history of Vespa, and is third generation to own a motorcycle store! Just needed an inspection, but Jason (the owner) was super friendly and got me out of there very quickly.

If only I could give 1,000 stars, this would be the place! So here's the deal. We are on a 27 state, 2 month trip in a motorhome with our Vespa on the back. While in Florida, I made a bone-head move and over-tightened a mirror and snapped it off. In such a way that we would need to tap out a screw to get a new one in, so more than just installing a new mirror. So I looked for Vespa shops on our route, and this one was going to be the easiest to get to in the "sooner rather than later" category. I called them up, and they were beyond helpful. They had the part, and told me they would set up their schedule so when I arrived in San Antonio I could drop the bike off Tuesday evening and pick it up first thing in the morning Wednesday. AWESOME!! We get there Tuesday evening, and first of all, everyone here is just so cool! I mean above and beyond cool. But they didn't have me wait. They did it on the spot, we chatted for a while, and I was on my way. Does the story end here? HELL NO! Later on I noticed that during transport, my steering column lock broke and the bike would not lock. Bummer, I'll just get it into a shop when we get to L.A., where we will be for a good amount of time, But then I find myself riding round San Antonio, and suddenly passing this place again. Hmmmm, let me stop and see if maybe this is something really easy and stupid. Or maybe I am being a bonehead and not doing something right? So I pull in and show them what is going on. Without a word, they bring my bike into the shop, and start taking it apart on the spot. About a half hour later, it is fixed. Not only did they do it on the spot for me, but there was just this overall attitude by EVERYONE in the shop of total coolness. Oh, and when I tried to pay, they wouldn't take a penny from me. In late December I took my Vespa in for an oil change and maintenance as it was terrible at starting (I'd already had several visits to Mr. Trott's shop and liked him). Unfortunately, not riding it much along as well as just age had led to damage to the fuel system and I needed multiple parts replaced. He told me the holiday would mean it would be a couple of weeks before he could get to it which I said was fine. I didn't get any other updates for 6 weeks (even though I had called to ask on multiple occasions). When I finally did hear back, I found out about the damage and approved the repairs at over $700. He had to order parts and didn't know when they would come in. Another month went by (when I called twice and was told at least once by him that he was still waiting and would update me and he never did). I finally got a call almost 3 months to the day that parts had come in and everything was fixed. I don't blame him for the wait though he could have updated me at least one time but whatever. I picked up the scooter last week (they had broken the windshield but replaced at no charge). We then talked about my seat which was in rough shape - he gave me the card of an upholstery guy he used and I thanked him for it. I was happy when I left. On my way home, I noticed that the seatback was torn open at the top. I emailed Mr. Trott that night via his website and got no response. The next morning I found the gas tank empty - I filled up and noticed the gas gauge was broken as it was still flatlined on E. I called about the issues but was told I would have to drive across town and bring the scooter back. Yesterday I went back in and met Mr. Trott right away. I told him about the tank gauge and he explained that they hadn't even gotten into the tank and it was nothing they could have done. He said replacement was costly and it wasn't his fault - it was just crappy gas and time. That was fair, I admit but it would have been nice if they had pointed it out when I picked up. I then pointed out the back of the seat. He said it was not like that when it was here last week. I told him, it certainly was as I noticed it driving home and had emailed him that fact that night. This is when it got weird because almost immediately, he started raising his voice. Saying its not his fault and its clearly old and rotted and I'm blaming him for something that he didn't do. I told him that I wasn't blaming him, I just wanted to talk about it as it was not like that for the 2 years I've had it, I leave it for 3 months and get it back like this. Then he started almost yelling at me. I repeatedly asked him to calm down. He just kept yelling that it wasn't high fault and it was just an old scooter and 'do you see the seams are rotted, do you see the seams are rotted' he shouted without letting me speak. I said you don't even know what I'm asking for because you haven't let me talk, you're just yelling and please just calm down for a minute. He then started yelling 'what do you want, what do you want' like a child in my face. I told him that first I just wanted to be able to talk. I asked why he was so angry and not even able to have a discussion. I asked him if he left the scooter outside and he said of course he had to move them in and out. But it wasn't his fault and the stitches were just rotted. He got a camera to take pictures - I attached the pictures but he's free to share his own. I told him I agree that the seat has damage (we even talked about that before), my only point was that I had new damage to the back and gauge that wasn't there when I left it in his care and I don't leave my scooter outside and it never gets wet. He kept yelling about how it wasn't his fault and he refused to do anything for me. I was able to finally say that all I was going to ask for was a credit on my next oil change as I thought he would want to keep my business. He said there was no way he was going to do that and it wasn't his fault and he took no responsibility and he didn't want to talk any more. Honestly, it was never about the money. In fact, I'm not even that mad. I don't believe 'the customer is always right'. But I do believe that you shouldn't yell at a customer especially when they just wanted to talk to you and even come back to you. A seat back is what, $50-60? So he gives me $30 credit toward an oil change and I'm happy. Instead he lost his temper. Lets be honest - my scooter is older - in good shape - but older and he left it out in the rain, cold and heat of the last 3 Texas months which accelerated the breakdown of the fabric/stitches as anyone who has been outside the last 3 months in Texas knows. It also could have contributed to the gas gauge problem. Instead of acknowledging that, he instead chose to yell and be rude and loud and embarrass himself. I honestly thought he was a good guy. I just expected more from an adult - he's not some 19 yo manager at McDonald's. It was sad. read more

Talk about above and beyond customer service! I decided to get my son a scooter for college and did some research, but still had no idea about the various scooters. From reviews I found this establishment. Not only were they insightful, they were truly passionate about their business. I wish they were in a better location, but the service makes up for that. They did not try to up sell us and actually I paid less then what I had budgeted because they were honest as to what would suit my son's needs. All of the gentlemen there were great. If I could give them zero stars I would. Not only did I bring my Vespa in for the same problem several times but Colin was so rude and hostile I will never be back. Every time I called and told them I was having the same problem, Colin would repeatedly blame me for something I supposedly was doing. No worries, Greg from mobile motorcycle repair found the problem in, and I'm not exaggerating here, 15 seconds. The entire engine was moving around Bc the Vespa was missing one of two main bolts that kept it in place and kept the compartment sealed. Either Colin is incompetent or they just wanted to take my money. Neither is good. Additionally, all of the bs that Colin was saying that caused my issues that were on me was just that bs. Bought a slightly used int 650 mark 3 fri. the 31st . My wife and I live in Abilene, so it was a 4 hr. drive, to get there, but man, was it worth it! The bike doesn't have a scratch on it, and it runs and rides great. Jason is a very knowledgeable guy, and answered all my questions quite easily. I am a veritable virgin in regards to motorized bikes but I was positive it was time for me to jump in and purchase one. Over the last decade we have all seen the prices of petrol roller-coaster from $2 to a touch over $3.00/gallon. This is just plain ReDonkULus! Now there is whispering in the news that we will see prices skyrocket well over $3.50/gal by the summer. We try to practice 'green' ways including recycling, planning our supermarket trips with a list so that we aren't driving and we do most of our driving in the evenings (well that's because I like to consider myself a vampyre of sorts..yeah I like the nightlife!) What I also like from the old days when we had muscle cars and cruised the strip showing off our sweet rides or just going for a long ride through the long and winding roads. I looked in the papers, Googled, Craigslisted and eventually landed myself in the mini-mecca of the Motorcycle Shop and was greeted with compassion by Jason and his family & employees. He took the time to explain various models and makes to me even while his phone rang and I knew that he had heaps of other work waiting for him and he let me go about heading back home to think it over without any pressure whatsoever. When I returned ready to unload my wallet he even stayed late to help transport my new ride "Clyde" (as I call it) to my home. I had never ridden before so he saddled it up (after giving me the low-down several times on safety, starting up, etc) onto his truck and drove it all the way to the other side of town during Friday night rush hour to drop it off in my driveway. You can't ask for better customer service than that! Not only that but The Motorcycle Shop has 'friended' on Facebook and alerts folks when there are group rides and other interesting events going on. My wife has wanted a scooter her entire life. Now that we are empty nesters, it was time! I did a lot of research and found Kymco was the brand to go with. We had been to shops from Austin to San Antonio, and all places had friendly sales people but this shop was different. First of all you could tell Jason, the owner, and Colin were knowledgeable and were not pushy. I don't like to be followed around and hounded. They didn't do that. When I needed help they were available. Both men are chill and not high pressure guys. When we returned to actually purchase the Kymco, the process was easy and they got me a 1.9 financing rate! Better than my credit union! I will admit when you come here, the shop can get super busy. The first time we were there, it wasn't but the next few times it was hopping. Be patient. There are only 2 or 3 guys working at a given time who are trying to help out everyone. While you're waiting, just enjoy the hell out of the great antique bikes they have and wait your turn. I went back today because my wife was still having trouble with getting her scooter on the center stand. The third worker...sorry, we didn't catch his name, was so willing to stop what he was doing to help us out and by the end, my wife could do it literally with one hand and one foot! I cannot say enough about this place and the guys. Remember, it's a small shop with a few workers. Be patient if they are busy. read more

Good folks who care about their business which is taking care of motor scooters and motorcycles. I bought my first scooter from them in '07 after riding motorcycles for years. I wanted something that was equally at home in the city and on the highway. Jason matched me up and I have been a happy rider since. I am now on my 2nd Xciting 500 cruiser scooter. Most write reviews to say something negative. But I have come to say nothing but good things. I bought for first scooter from Fred in 2005 (Kymco Cobra 50) I put almost 50,000 on it. I rode it daily. I just upgraded to a People S 200 that I got from Jason. I literally ride it everyday. I no longer own a car. I always get treated so well when I have a question or need a repair. Worse bike shop ever . The rude young guy is a total A$$ hole . They did a crappy job at trying to fix a starter relay with wire connectors . He said bring the bike back and I'll put on the right conector but I will have to charge you for that . This guy would not even stand still when talking to me , stating that he was very busy and frustrated cause his mechanic moved back to England .i have a KLR 650 . I was interested in getting information on scooters so I stopped by this place. When I asked what's the difference and why they were so expensive he told me that I ordered Chinese junk and began to tell me I was dumb for buying it. Then he started arguing with my 72 year old uncle and was being very disrespectful and rude. I was offended and couldn't believe this guy's additude. I would recommend not going to this place. Used to be a great shop, after they get your business good luck. Very short on the phone, and if you ever get any kind of service make sure you are very clear and precise, I would even make sure what you agreed to is on the work order before you leave. Don't think the mistake was intentional, but oh boy, don't have a miscommunication with Jason, he will throw a tantrum like a 3 year old and then leave the shop. Best service I've received anywhere in a long time. Jason and his friend that was helping out (didn't catch his name) the day I went to get my very first scooter were very informative and helpful and not pushy at all. As other regulars came in I could tell that this shop strives to develop a relationship with their customers and is in it for the customers' satisfaction, not just to make a buck. After a return visit, my Kymco scooter, starting issue was resolved. Being from out of town and needing to return, they did me right.

Bought my very first scooter here about a year and a half ago. They even delivered it to my house because I was not comfortable riding it back from the shop as I had just got my class M designation days before. Totally awesome and they did so at no extra charge. They have done all the maintenance on it (which was done quickly, done well, and was reasonably priced). Every year they invite all the scooter enthusiasts in town to join them on their spring ride, which is a load of fun. No complaints so far (I have interacted with the staff for service or sales on probably 3-5 occasions). If you are in town they are THE scooter people. The few negative reviews for this shop on Yelp are not indicative of what a normal person would experience visiting their shop and are niche complaints. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. There was a time that i refered people here but its been on a steady decline for years. They left a spacer off my motorcyle and when I came back to complain they denied that they even had the bike or any record of it. I had them double check some work I did myself because it wasn't lining up right and apparently instead of taking off the tire and checking it they just tightened the bolts and sent me on my way. Without the spacer my bearings were ruined which could have resulted in my bike locking up on the highway. Even after I brought my bank statement showing they worked on it. The owner was totally unapologetic and rude. He even had the audacity to say I should learn to do work on my motorcycle myself. Based on the positive reviews here, I contacted this shop. Unfortunately, my experiences here were pretty bitter. A year ago my Lance scooter was stolen but luckily recovered under 48 hours--Ignition was busted & it was spray-painted red. It was running at the time, but I let it sit for months, so it stopped. Summer of 2015, I finally contacting a towing company to take my scooter to this store. I realized as the towing company pulled up that I couldn't find the key for the U-lock I put on the front tire. We called this shop to see if they could remove the U-lock, and they said they didn't have the facilities to remove it. The towing company was understanding and left, but the situation just sucked. Fast forward to winter. I finally got a locksmith to saw off the U-lock, called the towing company again, and had the scooter towed to the Motorcycle Shop. I asked them at the least to see if they could open the trunk because I couldn't get it open myself and I'd left the title in it. (I know, I know, the worst thing I could have left in my vehicle.) After about two weeks there, I hadn't heard anything, so I followed up. The person on the other end said they suspected it was totaled at this point because it had been sitting so long, so I asked him to make an estimate I could use in court, and he said he'd follow up. I didn't hear anything for a few weeks until December 19th. I received a call while I was traveling that they were closing for two weeks, the scooter was totaled, and the pricing was ready. I finally got to the shop on January 5, when they re-opened, and got the paperwork. We hadn't agreed on a price for labor, but I felt what they asked for was reasonable, so I paid. The same towing company took the scooter back to my house while I went back to work. I got home, and called the towers who informed me that the scooter seat was completely separated when they went to pick it up from the Motorcycle Shop, which was news to me. I was about to meet someone from Craigslist to whom I was going to sell the scooter, so this was an issue. The cap to the engine within the seat had also been unscrewed. After asking the towers at which point they noticed the seat had been severed, I called the Motorcycle Shop. The guy I spoke to simply said "we never touched the seat... I'll have (Jason?) call you tomorrow." Yelpers, I had been trying to get the seat open without a key for months because I wanted to see if my title was still in it and I COULD NOT DO IT, so I was 100% certain the damage happened after it left my possession. When I finally called the Motorcycle Shop back (no one ended up calling me) the communication I had with the Motorcycle Shop was bad. The guy on the other end immediately raised his voice and started talking fast. Before I could say anything he cut me off and kept yelling "I NEVER DID ANYTHING!" I kept trying to tell him my only concern was the seat and I was worried someone had just forgot to lock it back on, but I don't think I got the full sentence out once. He asked me what I wanted, and as I said I just wanted the seat fixed, he cut me off exclaiming, "THAT SCOOTER WAS TRASH WHEN IT CAME IN... IT WAS TRASH!... I WISH IT HAD NEVER EVEN COME IN!" I hung up on him while he was still rambling and immediately took notes for this review. Not going to pursue it with them any farther, but I want to give a head's up to others. read more

My scooter was in need of serious servicing as I hadn't ridden it in 8-9 months. This shop came highly recommended and I was not disappointed!! Jason and his crew did a great job and got my scooter back to me quickly. Price was reasonable and my scooter runs like a top!! This is where I will take my scooter for repairs from now on.
