    El Pueblo Breakfast
    Jackie B.

And it continues, flights from Taos to San Diego cancelled until THURSDAY so had to find a quick alternative to get back to Cali on Sunday. Decided to drive my rental from Taos to Albuquerque, and only flight out was at 7:30am. White knuckle drove at 4am from Taos, with day old breakfast sandwiches in tow, and made it to the ABQ airport in time for boarding at 7am. Now on my flight through Austin to Santa Ana, then a bus back from Orange County to San Diego. I have one more biscuit left. Thank goodness for El Pueblo Lodge Breakfast for keeping me going this entire weekend.

The beautiful day after the snow storm from our balcony.

Pleasantly surprised. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Love the balcony. Great value. Great location. Great service. Probably the best hotel breakfast we've had, and we've had a lot. Love the chocolate chip cookies. The only downside is that the hot tub wasn't working, but no biggie. Just a great experience. Missing the extras already. Our hotel in Ouray, Colorado, doesn't have a great breakfast or chocolate chip cookies. Highly recommended.

    Pretty grounds.

They had me at hello when I walked in and saw cookies and dog treats on the counter. The room was spacious and cozily decorated. We loved the bed and slept like the dead. There was a frig and a coffee pot. There was also an iron and ironing board. The grounds were landscaped attractively. The pool looked refreshing and guests seemed to have fun it. The breakfast buffet was delicious. They are pet friendly. There's even a little pet area with bags available for picking up after Fido. The hubby and I plan to return.

The hot tub is very nice :))

Hubby & I have stayed at this very cool Pueblo style lodge several times now. We love the local artistic style & the location. Plus they are one of the only ones that have both a heated pool & a giant hot tub. We have stayed at many places in & around Taos from moderate to Super Expensive & this is now one of our favorites. The queen rooms are cute, but I found them to be too small for us. The king rooms are the best. They are YUGE & have a little Kiev fireplace, which is very romantic in the mountains. The fireplaces come fully stocked with wood, kindling, small twigs, matches etc., LOVE! We didn't have to go get anything for the fireplace it's all there already. The rooms also have giant flat screen tv's with all the premium channels, tub/shower combos, frig, microwave, SMALL old style coffee pot & a closet. This last time we visited we had a king room that we could pull right up to & unload. YAY! Very nice, bc if you have ever traveled in the mountains you know you need a full size cooler, your luggage & some hiking stuff if you plan on seeing some sites. We also had a backdoor to a balcony that had chairs & led to a park like setting across from the office or led to the pool area. It was a Saturday & we found out that Saturday's are "Free Green chili night" in the office so you can wander in there & get a bowl of free green chili. Hubby got some & loved it! :)) The pool is heated & the hot tub is at 104 degrees. It's perfect. I use it every time. The beds are super comfy but the pillows are too soft for me. Not really a complaint bc I carry my own pillow anyway. Just FYI if you need a firm pillow, bring your own. The only complaints I have is the soap sucks. YUCK! It's super dry in the mountains & cheap soap is horrible for your already mountain whipped dry skin. I usually bring my own but I didn't pack any for some reason & we had to use theirs until I could go shop for some good stuff in town. Also, there isn't enough towels in the room. There is a giant thing of nice ones by the pool but only two big ones in the rooms. Also, the thing about the small coffee pot. Its just enough for 2 tiny cups of coffee & the coffee blows. This needs to be upgraded to a full size coffee pot or a modern version. Shameful. Small coffee pots should be banned worldwide. After this last trip, hubby says we need a "Taos Check list" in our phones: Taos Check list! Make reservations. Bring luxurious soap Bring your own pillow Bring tea bags 4 the small communist coffee pot Bring a positive attitude Bring a cooler full of water/drinks/snacks Bring 3 bottles vino instead of 2 (this one is just 4 moi) The office has a wine opener if you forgot yours too. Have fun in Taos :)

For the first time in forever we tried a local lodge/motel instead of a hotel chain. I would have to say that the room was clean and quaint. However with the door directly to the outside there was car noise etc. and you can hear people next door talking, watching tv. I would have to say that the free breakfast was better than a lot of the hotel chains. Lots of choices for bread/pastries, eggs, tacos were good. it was a short walk to the Plaza for shopping, eating etc. Overall a decent place to rest your head.

Very nice & clean... very well taken care of. They allow dogs & they serve a very substantial breakfast that is complementary! Breakfast is sausage gravy, biscuits, eggs, sausage patty, papitas, green chile sauce, salsa, breakfast sandwiches, tamales, coffee, tea, juices, cereal, pastries, waffles. Mid afternoon they offer freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, chips & salsa, coffee, tea, juice, and green chile stew. Lots of grass in a courtyard & location is very close to Taos Plaza. They have a few drink vending machines. Towels are very nice& thick...nice toilet tissue. Substantial parking. Staff is very friendly! Balconies in some rooms & nice lawn chair seating. Beds very firm & comfortable with a nice comforter & 4 pillows. Very well insulated room! No microwave but fridge & coffee pot.

Our car broke down north of Taos so we needed a place to stay. We found this place on yelp. What a great find! I called while waiting for a tow and explained our predicament and the desk woman was very helpful. She arranged to have a room cleaned on our arrival. The room was excellent. It's such a nice place. Large, green grounds with frisbee golf, corn hole and horse shoes. It also has a pool and hot tub. And if that weren't enough, the Lodge is within walking distance of all the Taos shopping and restaurants. Today's breakfast was the best hotel breakfast ever.

Has a real south west vibe going on which continued into our room. The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I really wanted to leave a glowing 5-star review because, when we first arrived I was obsessed with…read morethis place. My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

My culinary expectations run low; my expectations for service, lower still. Normally I prefer the aromatic delights of McDonald's coffee and a long walk in the mountain air. I am not a millennial nor a churchgoer, so my brunch dealings are sparse and my credentials suspect. That said, I've cooked in restaurants, and I know what a fulsome, glistening platter of not-quite-breakfast, not-quite-lunch is supposed to look like. Fresh-squeezed juice. A generous cup of coffee. A Mimosa, if you want to live dangerously. Reflecting on the experience, and a bill of nearly $100 for two small people, I'm afraid this review amounts to a tragic tale of woe and betrayal. Allow me, kind reader, to explain. My daughter was in town from NYC. I wanted to show her a great time. Just the two of us. A long walk and brunch at the Monte. What could go wrong? In hindsight, plenty. The undercooked, liquified blueberry muffin was a flare shot into the morning sky, and I ignored it. The solitary waitress working the entire restaurant should have sent my ARE YOU BEING SERVED hackles into overdrive. But the place is so beautiful, so unique, that I swallowed my foreboding. Among other things. I had been promised a Southwestern take on classic Eggs Benedict, and thought I, how different can it be? I am an adventurous eater, raised on chile peppers, and I've eaten my way through Hong Kong night markets and a questionable food hall in Greece and lived to tell the tale. My daughter was smarter, ordering the American breakfast: boring, but good. At least it came with a normal, human-sized mug of decaf. My coffee came in a tiny, beautiful cup that remained mostly empty throughout our meal until I flagged the waitress down, begging to be seen, begging for a refill. But that is another story. For now, I want to focus my ire, and your eyes, on the yoke of darkness. The undercooked white lies. The main course. And the downfall of my tale. My plate arrived. The moment of truth. And there it was: the Southwestern Egg Benedict. Egg. Singular, treasonous, and quite sad. Flanked by two microwaved strips of bacon that defied the gravitational rules of pork breakfast products, a pair of lumpy bread-like clumps placed beside the egg rather than beneath it, and a side salad drowning under a brown-orange dressing of rare and unknowable provenance. I looked longingly at my daughter's plain toasted English muffins (they'd run out of sourdough, and white). What I would have given for something pasty and edible. I ate the underdone, white-runny poached egg, and regretted it a few hours and several bathroom trips later. I'm not sure my illness can be attributed solely to the egg. But I have my suspicions, and the egg has no alibi. Here is the part that saves the morning. My daughter, watching me surrender, watching me raise the white napkin of defeat over the corpse of a single egg, beckoned to the waitress and informed her, gently, that Eggs Benedict is normally plural. Served with two eggs. And then she laughed. And I laughed. And for a moment the crime against humanity in front of me didn't matter, because I was sitting in a beautiful room with the one person with whom I wanted to share the glorious Taos morning. So: one star. The star is for the ambience. And for her. Case status: unsolved. Suspect still at large. Last seen runny on a plate.

It had been abandoned by the previous owner for some time so after he had purchased it he renovated the entire premises to turn it into what is now today. He and his wife certainly have great tastes in everything as the charm they created is simply bonita. Depending on the room you choose, it's equipped with a beautiful copper bath tub that can easily hold two people. The water that comes out of the faucet is pure, twice filtered deep aquifer well water. And the healing power of cooper will ease all sorts of aches and pains. The exquisiteness of soaking in such a tub is of an experience you can't enjoy at home. If you end up staying here, eating breakfast in the designated dining room is a must. The woman helping us was incredibly kind, informative, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming. The location was also beautiful--great sunset views near the gorge, lots of open space for our toddler to run around, and making a fire at night was definitely a highlight. But...the trailer 'FRIDA' itself just did not match the $300/night price point for a sunday on a long weekend. At first glance it looked clean enough--fresh white linens, towels, working Wi-Fi, etc.--but once you settled in, the cleanliness issues became hard to ignore. There were crumbs on the couch when we arrived, toothpaste splatter still on parts of the mirrors/walls, and the bathroom sink barely drained because it was so clogged. The floors were honestly the biggest shock. My son ran around briefly without shoes and the bottoms of his socks were black within minutes. What really sealed it for me was seeing the cleaning process during checkout. Staff were placing duvets outside on the patio furniture while turning over the trailers. Unfortunately, the chairs themselves were dusty/dirty, and ours even had bird droppings on it. It just didn't inspire confidence in the overall housekeeping standards. It felt less "curated desert escape" and more "surface-cleaned trailer with great branding." I truly think this place has potential because the concept and location are so unique, and the staff we interacted with were lovely. But for the price, the cleanliness standards need to be significantly higher.
