This place is so special. We came on a Saturday night!! Live jazz!! Lindsey our server was sweet and attentive. The chef Valerie made the best ratatouille I have ever had. Vegetarian. Wedge salad was the bomb and we had a large milk stout in a-giant chilled mug. Pam hosted us and then Took a break to sing a song with the band. Ambiance is warm and sweet. We love Ojo Caliente spa and Artesian restaurant, but over the Christmas holidays lodging starts at $140 per night. Taos Trail Inn offered beautiful rooms (we stayed in Chama) for $85. In addition to the amenities (hot chocolate, refrigerator, fine furnishing, DVDs in the room) we could park close to the room, the staff was friendly, walkway lights turn on at night, and it's charming. Taos Trail Inn is now our first choice for lodging when we visit Ojo. Check out my uploaded pictures. read more

I came to Ojo Caliente wanting to experience the springs, but the accompanying hotel was a bit outside my budget. Enter the Taos Trail Inn, which had good pricing and was just down the road. I wrote and got a prompt reply that the Taos room was available. I was told I'd get a call the next day to get my CC info to book. That call never came. I started calling myself but kept getting voicemail messages. At last I reached them and got my room booked a few weeks out. Preferred check-in times were told to be between 3 and 6, so I high-tailed it from Mesa Verde and feared I'd be slightly late so I called - voicemail, no surprise. I rolled in at 6:20 and it appeared to be no big deal whatsoever - I am not sure they heard my message, even. A friendly guy toured my room with me and gave me some sightseeing advice for Santa Fe that I put to use. I originally felt I was put on the spot when he asked what I was going to be doing (thinking he was coercing me to come to the attached restaurant) but I saw that wasn't the case. They appear to be pretty laid back, as the voicemail suggests. So enough about that - the room has rustic red-light charm, and they're obviously putting some love into the rooms. There's a nice patio outside, which I used to do some stargazing in peace during the night. No breakfast offered, which was a relief to me since I needed to get on the road early, but they left a large bag of coffee which I put to good use. Lastly, it's billed as walkable from the springs, and at a half-mile that's true - but I drove just to make it easy. I was glad I booked here, but know that their time flows a bit different than yours. But there's something that can be learned from that, perhaps. read more

Went here last night for our anniversary. Had a awesome time! Ordered the 16 ounce ribeye with calabacitas (squash, corn) and potatoes. Everything was delicious! Best part about it though was the live jazz and Christmas music the band was playing. Incredible musicians who really take the crowd for a ride with their talents. The lead singer, a beautiful redhead, sings like an angel! They put on an awesome show! A great place to wrap up the night after soaking in the tubs at Ojo Caliente. We ended up spending the night in the Chama room, sufficiently drunk and happy! The room was very comfortable and got a great nights sleep. Warm and cozy. I would recommend this place if you are looking to save a few bucks over the pretty expensive rooms at Ojo Caliente. Merry Christmas! read more

Good value and located very close to the Ojo Caliente Spa. However, if you are two or more people and you plan on soaking in the springs every day at $28 per person, be aware that it may be more economical to stay at the spa, since entrance to the springs is included for guests. My room was clean and comfortable, if a bit dark. The wifi did not work in my room which was towards the back but I simply went to the restaurant each time I wanted to get online. The owner kindly offered to make me a special vegetarian meal at the adjoining steakhouse, and it was beautifully prepared and delicious. If you are looking for simpler, low-cost fare, check out the delicious sandwiches and pizza at the Red Mountain Cafe directly across from the inn. read more

Even though only 2-stars, you should go! We didn't eat (pretty pricy which I didn't expect from the outside). We came for the brewery; they had an IPA and a porter. We got one of each. They were good, but nothing to brag about. They let us bring our dogs in. We were excited to see music setting up. The two on stage, one played keyboard and trumpet, the other ???. Ends up more of a karaoke set. The wife-owner sang a song and some were dancing. It was an interesting scene, something to be experienced. read more

This place makes me understand (finally) why NM is called "Land of Enchantment" Absolutely charming. Shocked by how civilized it could be out in the middle of nowhere!!! I had a delicious double bock beer, homemade tortills chips and hot-enough salsa (I like it hot!!) for starters. All meals come with a very nice Caesar salad. I had the ribs. Smoky heaven. Nice sized portion (5 ribs). Fire grilled veggies and a baked potato. A nice bitter and hoppy IPA. CHARMING sweet and attentive service. Homey Sw rustic decor. Mulies on the wall. Nice lighting. We rode in by motorcycle and never know where you will spend the night .we wanted to stay at the OJO CALIENTE spa and hotel but they were booked and were able to stay there and go back to the spa down the street . We did not want to drive anymore and would have to stay there . When we booked the room the lady knew she had you and it was $90 for the night. I stayed at a lot of hotels but this was like a converted garage with cinder block walls and the shower area was a hack job in progress . No internet , breakfast , or cable . Just a TV and some crappy selection of DVD's. If I were you and I had a car I would go to a different hotel . However it was better to stay there after driving 500+ miles that day than driving my bike at night after hitting the spa which usually makes you sleepy. read more

Super cute and cozy, lodge meets motel. David and Pam are the best. They let us bring our dog (20$ fee) and let us check in early once they made a room ready. The nicest people and a great place to stay right across the street from the hot springs. Tip- maybe it was because we came on a Tuesday but there really were no food options other than the restaurant at the hot springs. Come prepared, or just go to the awesome restaurant there. read more

Great find next to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. This small tourist town is nestled in the northern New Mexico mountains. Awesome barbecue, craft beer, great jazz music. Loved the atmosphere, owners have recently renovated the hotel rooms and the outside patio/courtyard. Don't miss it! read more

We loved this place. Everything you would want from a cabin stay. Its also conveniently located within walking distance to Ojo Caliente, serves dinner and and drinks. No television or wifi in the Coyote Cabin but it's romantic and the lack of technology is exactly what was needed for the weekend. I recommend over lodging at Ojo. read more

The Taos Trail Inn is a wonderful gem! It's a short walk and 30 second drive to the Ojo caliente hot springs. Far less expensive than the Ojo caliente resort AND has far more character. The owners are very sweet and accommodating. The bed was super cozy and comfortable and we are definitely coming back! read more

Don't waste your time and money staying here. The "rustic western motifs" are literally garbage piles of found items in a courtyard, the owner is rude and unaccommodating, the bed sucked, no wifi, cable or dvd's as suggested by the website, no one on site to help upon check-in and no cell service in the area. The restaurant and brewery (which would possibly have been this places only redeeming factor) was closed even when I had asked if it was open 48 hours before we arrived. Total shit hole. read more

What a lovely surprise finding this place in the middle of nowhere. Over a weekend trip to Ojo Caliente hot springs, we stumbled upon this place for dinner. The menu is short and simple and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed a plate of ribs and their 16oz rib eye - both came with a standard salad, delicious grilled vegetable mix and a baked potato. We ate out on the patio while we enjoyed some live jazz and sipped local wine. It was a beautiful October night and even though our waitress was only on her second day, she was amazing. I wish these guys the best and if you find yourself out in this part of the country, you owe it to yourself to check it out. read more

Food, service, and atmosphere were by far one of the best dining experiences I've had in the Southwest, let alone Santa fe / Ojo Caliente. This praise stems from simple, but deliciously prepared steaks, ribs, salads, veggies and potatoes. Dominic, our server, went above and beyond to meet our dietary requests and honor my best friend as we celebrated her 30th birthday. Putting one star only because you can't write a review with none. This place deserves none. First, I told the reservation clerk (owner?) to use my credit card to hold the room and that my mom and sister would be paying when they arrived. Nope; she told them when they arrived that it was paid for. Wheee! Thanks for that unanticipated $300 charge! The cabin we ended up renting was dark; painted dark brown - ceiling, walls, everything, lampshades - dark brown. FIFTEEN watt bulbs in lights. My mom had to use a flashlight to see in her Dopp kit. Grubby, dirty, dusty, shoddy - carpentry was by a drunk amateur. The only positive thing they could say was the decor was nice. Beds were clean ... but not comfortable. Few electrical outlets. Just a microwave - in a rentable cabin, there should be at least a hotplate. Especially if your description says it includes a kitchenette. The service was friendly but the obvious impression was that the bar was where the owners' focus was - it's not on the tenants/guests. My husband and I are planning to go to Ojo in a few months and guess where we will NOT be staying? I hope you're smart and AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

Beware, the good reviews here are OLD. Made a reservation over the phone several weeks in advance. Arrived at 6:30 PM on a Tuesday and the place was almost completely dark. I walked around with a flashlight looking for the office and couldn't find one. The place looked closed for business; except for the one guest room that looked occupied. Called the number on the site and was told they didn't have a reservation for us. I asked if we could still book the room and was told it wasn't clean. I didn't bother pushing the issue. Even though it appeared they had 95% availability, not surprised they didn't have a clean room. This left us in a jam. I booked this place because it was the only place I could find in Ojo that allows dogs. We drove an hour back to Santa Fe and missed our trip to the hot springs. read more

This place is a rip off and not run like a local business. Made a reservation and paid for it. My dog had it's head stuck out the window on the way up and unfortunately had a violent allergic reaction to some kind of sting, on a Sunday. Upon arriving we asked for a local Veterinarian and it was assessed that the closest Vet was in Santa Fe, an hour and a half away. So when we arrived at 3PM with a swollen faced 15 and a half year old dog face to check in, we told the owner that we had an emergency and may not be able to spend the night if we had to stay with our dog at the emergency Vet. The owner replied, "we do not give refunds". He saw our dog suffering and I said this is an emergency, I'm sorry, the room is $105, Please. I feel for local business, but this guy was completely unsympathetic, saw our suffering dog, knew how far we needed to drive for Veterinarian help, what time it was, and said maybe he could refund half of our money, if his wife agreed to it. Our dog got an allergy shot, was fine, and we returned to our reservation. The room sucked. Totally dark, on the Highway. There was a TV in a cabinet not hooked up to either cable or even an over the air antenna. So what is the TV for? No WiFi. No cell phone service. When we arrived to check in, like a former post, had to call and walk around and wander for at least 20 minutes to find the owners to check in. When I opened the curtains in the morning, the rod fell off, and it took me a long time to reconnect it. The bathroom sink was gravitated the wrong way, so if water spilled from the tiny sink, it ran into your feet. The tile work in the shower, well, I shouldn't even call it tile work. All of the faucets turn backwards. I hope you get the picture. Sucks. I could go on................... read more

The owner made an offer via a TripAdvisor message to refund my payment, but the offer turned out to be hollow. I called dozens of times (always went to a recorder), left several messages asking for a return phone call, and never got through or received a reply. We live in the Ojo Caliente area and my husband called to make a reservation for our wedding anniversary so that we could support our local businesses as we have in the past. He was told that they do not welcome locals to their establishment. An employee was told that they keep prices so high as to discourage the local patron.What a true disappointment and a slap in the face of our wonderful community. read more

Wonderful, Fresh, Unique and Fun. This is a beautiful place that has been lovingly restored by the new owners Pam and her husband. I called the night before I was to be in town to see if they had a room. It was late and Pam, asked me for my name and then with out asking for any more information, said that she would hold a room for me as long as I called back in the morning to confirm. I was amazed. We got caught in traffic and were running late. Pam kept the restaurant open until we got there so we could eat, (the food was delicious) and then showed us to a beautiful room. There were two separate rooms, the back one private with a queen sized bed and the front with a queen bed and a kitchen. It was a great experience, with a lovely place and very kind people. read more

We didn't stay at the Inn, but we did go to the restaurant at the Inn twice for dinner while in Ojo, and WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! First of all, they were nice enough to stay open for Christmas Eve, even when their family was there to visit. They were all there working, even the ones from out of town and they were so friendly, we ended up getting to know them all. Their food is excellent, and really the best place to eat in that area, which doesn't have much to offer, and it's kind of a suprise to have such a high quality restaurant in that po-dunk little town with nothing in it. Our faves: Their HOME-BREWED BEER AND HOMEMADE WINE. AMAZING!! And the food was by far the best you can find around there, in my opinion. Couldn't have found a better way to spend our nights after soaking in the hot springs during the day. Made for an all around great experience. Thanks guys!! read more

During a 10 day stay in a cabin.. Our roof leaked into my bags from a very small snowstorm (all my wool sweaters and underwear and scarves and socks). Owners were not locatable on site and refused to compensate or even discuss. The next day after arriving home we called and the wife hung up on me 3 times over the course of 2 days of calls when I'd say Hi this is (my name). (I couldnt get it through my head they were hanging up on me, I thought we were just getting disconnected) We left several voicemails ranging from we would like to have a conversation, work this out, all the way to we're going to report you to the better business bureau. NO CALLS NO COMMUNICATION NO COMPENSATION. THERE IS NO PHONE AND NO WIFI. THE OWNERS ARE NOT COMMUNICATIVE DURING THE STAY ONLY WHEN TAKING PAYMENT. They (OVER)charged our credit card (more than the published rates) BEFORE we ever arrived so we did not have the option to dispute the charges. There are no closets, no hangars, no heat in the bedroom and a LOT OF HIGHWAY NOISE. and the cabin smelled like MOLD. THESE FOLKS ARE SHADY. read more
