I worked with Able Care about a year ago to install a custom chair lift in my father's house. The installation of the temporary lift and the ultimate installation of the permanent lift went well. The installation tech was professional, helpful, and went out of his way to find a creative solution to an engineering problem we encountered. We experienced a handful of problems over the course of a year that were routine and most were fixed quickly and to my satisfaction except one. Only problem is that one problem was a huge problem at the worst possible time, and when it occurred Able Care did not have procedures in place to address the issue. In a nutshell, the lift stopped working for no apparent reason that we could discern and it happened on a Friday. By the time we could call it in they were closed. They had after hours support, but at the time their support procedures required the on-call person to actually be doing their job. They were completely unreachable via their escalation procedures all weekend while my father was stranded in the basement of the house. Bottom line: it was a problem that had no business happening. Lifts are basic quality of life issues for the elderly. To have it all in the hands of one person who decided not to answer their phone all weekend is an outrage. The rest of the company mobilized to fix the problem quickly on Monday, and they showed a genuine interest in making things right. But make sure you think through after hours support and you understand escalation procedures when you get service like this installed, hopefully Able Care has something more robust in place now. read more

Gave a one star because I could not do zero, had a lift for 6 years with no problems other than a bad battery, never missed a payment. Now they want payment 3 months ahead of time. So much for this handicapped widower that lives alone on a fixed income, whom can not afford 3 months ahead of time has to have it removed and risk falling on the stairs. First of all I paid $2500 for the seat, which wasn't a problem. The first Installer they sent had no idea how to install they had to send someone else to finish the job. Everything worked fine. We've had it two months. My mother just passed away and we don't need it anymore and we called the company to buy back and I know I wasn't going to get what I paid for it but the $2500 investment I was only offered 200 to buy back. When I called the company for the buyback, the gentleman on the phone said oh so many of our customers have died in the last two weeks. This is not a company that I will do business with anymore Or recommend to anyone. I was vulnerable because I needed to take care of my mom not figure and I would have to sell it back or sell it in two months. In 2014 I purchased a $14k custom made stair lift from Able Care for my home. I found Able Care through a contractor friend although he had never done business with them and based upon my experience, he will never do business with them. Once the stair lift was installed and they received payment they wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. I've come to learn that they sold a stair lift they knew from the beginning was problematic. Every time it malfunctioned, I called the office and could never get anyone on the phone who could provide answers or even schedule a service appointment. I left message after message and crickets. I can't begin to count how many times I was promised someone would get back to me, and never did. They couldn't have cared less. One time while I was on hold, one of the owners accidentally picked up the line and very promptly hung up on me when he realized he picked up wrong line. It took persistence to get them to react. This wasn't a one-time occurrence. It happened every single time I needed service. Calling the office was an exercise in futility so I started contacting their technician directly. I don't know what I would've done without Doug. He's the only redeeming quality of this business. He's great and responsive and very knowledgeable. I honestly don't understand how they are still in business because I can't be the only person with this sort of experience. They are such money grubbers, it's disgusting. They want to sell products and not be bothered when those products need service. A couple years ago I had a service appointment and the day before someone called me to say "you know that you have to pay us before we leave your house, right?". Yes...I was already well aware that this was their MO but what choice did I have? The stair lift kept sputtering and could barely make it from one level of house to the other. And if you do business with them, learn from my mistake and pay with a credit card so you have some form of recourse. Don't pay with check like I mistakenly did. I called the office a couple weeks ago because I no longer need the stair lift. I spoke to Audrey and asked if I should have them or my contractor remove it. She said someone would get back to me. At the time I purchased it, Lee said they would remove it if/when it was no longer needed, and they could even potentially help me re-sell it for parts. Now I assume that was a lie in an effort to close the sale because I waited almost 2 weeks before I called again and this time I was told "they're not interested". How rude! I can't begin to explain how thrilled I am to never need to call that office again. They truly are one of the worst run businesses I have every dealt with. The only consistent thing they provide is rude and bad service. Almost every phone call I made to them ended with frustration and anger. This is totally unacceptable especially since they sell products that people's lives depend upon daily. So, if you want undependable products and rude and crappy service, then Able Care is for you. I contacted Ben of Able Care last Friday, March 1 to talk about a ramp for my husband. He is a recent amputee and he was coming home Wednesday, March 6. Not a lot of lead time. Ben seemed to take my dilemma to heart. He told me he would get me a ramp the following Monday. Despite a snowstorm, Ben and his colleague got here and they installed that ramp. In addition, he walked about my house and installed lots of small rubber ramps over saddles that would have been a problem for my husband.
