I've been washing clothes here for over a decade. They have a bunch of heavy duty washing machines that can actually get my clothes clean. I do construction for a living so my clothes are pretty grimy. The best part is that Able Fabric Care has free drying. That's right free drying. It even has a bathroom that you can use. I walk my clothes here to do the laundry. I have no complaints. They are open from 8am to 8pm, I believe. There are machines that range from $2.75 (looks like a home washer) and up to $7. I usually use the $5 machines. The drying is free. 27 minute washes and as much drying as you need. Coin operated with a change machine that takes $1, $5, and $10 bills. They are fast and efficient, and there's so many of them that even if 1 or 2 are out of order, there are others to choose from. This place isn't that busy, so I've never had trouble going in at any time and finding available machines. Charles (Buck) who owns the place is very friendly. He will chat with you about music or just give you life/relationship advice. He is a real local and has owned the place since 1984. He knows a lot of stuff and can tell you so many stories and give you perspective about all the neighborhood changes. read more

This is my local laundromat and I really love it. It looks a little run down, but (as the other reviewers said) the machines are good quality. I especially want to note that the gentleman who is usually here is very friendly and helpful. I feel like he's the laundromat wizard - he knows all the tricks. He has helped me pick out the right size machine and, on several occasions when I was running late, has put my clothing in the dryer, taking out obviously delicate knitted things. He's a little bit quiet and may come off as gruff, but I've never felt threatened by him. Quite the opposite, I think he is charming and eager to help. I am sorry if other reviewers had a different experience, but I would not pass up this place because of that. read more

The washers are pricier, but the drying is free. While the place may look run down it's actually one of the better ones in the neighborhood. The guys across the street at Wally's World are super nice as well and worth stopping by while you're waiting. I'm going to give Able Laundry another star (up from my previous review of 3 stars). I really like the fact that there's an on-site manager who's been very helpful. He's always there watching TV and has assisted me several times with the change machine (as well as giving me smaller dollar bills for a $20). There's also a deli across the street which has good gyro sandwiches, plentiful unmetered street parking, and best of all, the drying machines are still free! I washed and dried two bed blankets and four dining room chair slipcovers for a total of $8 in under an hour. I recommend this place, especially if you have large loads of laundry to do. read more

1. Attendant may remove your clothes from dryer and place in a heap minutes after finishing if you aren't there, even if the place is dead. 2. They sometimes lock up two hours before posted closing time. But after another wash and fold place lost some items of my clothing, I decided I wanted to preserve my inventory and decided to bite the bullet again and do it myself. Just came by at 6:20 PM on Sunday July 20th, 2014 with a full cart of laundry. As soon as I went to enter the building, the owner Charles started yelling at me asking if I saw his sign on the front door which stated "LAST WASH at 6:30 PM." I mentioned I did not, knew it was until 6:30 PM which the sign said and they stated they were open till 9 PM. I then proceeded to leave where he came out from the front to outside yelling and stating I could come in like he was doing me a favor. I don't write negative reviews often but this place was pretty bad. Maybe it was just bad timing but most of their machines were out of service. Two of the washing machines I used didn't spin the clothes well at all so they were sopping wet. Another washer took about 1 hour to wash a small load (it read 28 minutes when I put it in. Yikes. Got our laundry done... But I think the atmosphere is a bit like the twilight zone. It's a washer/dryer grave yard with only 60% I the machines in operation. You can see where all the water dumps out of the machines which makes me feel a bit weird about how legitimate this owner is on upkeep... The place is filthy. Also... Multiple signs read "if you can read, don't slam the door." And by sign I mean scrap paper and pencil. OMG. I went to dry some clothes that were a little damp from the rain. And when I got there this shortish black guy (this is upsetting to say this but it's how we describe black men) directed me to a dryer that tooks quarters. The machine took $2 worth of my quarters and when I complained he said I was lying. I was a bit taken back but folks at laundry mats well? Then I put my clothes in another dryer and he went on and one. Insulting me, telling me to get out of his place. And threatening me and yelling at me. I was shaking so badly. I didn't want to leave my clothes behind. So I called 911. The police never came and all the while the man was threatening me and yelling at me. I yelled back, something I learned to defend myself. I kept asking him to step aside and leave me alone. Then he said he didn't know what was wrong with me if I had been drinking. He was rude and abusive. I was shaking. DO NOT GO HERE. I have been coming to this laundry-mate for a while and I find the prices to be comparable to others in the area. The BONUS, is drying is FREE, when you wash at Able Fabric Care. The washers are top of the line, and dryers are efficient. They also provide, Wash and Fold service for those how want to drop off their clothes and pick them up later. There is always an attendant on site and they are very accommodating and willing the help with any questions, or concerns. The owner has taken great steps to make your washing experience as enjoyable as possible while waiting for your clothes; free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV's, good music, and stimulating conversation for your enjoyment. I truly like taking with the owner, "Buck", he can enlighten you about sports, history and, boy does he know about, Music. I heard the interview he had on KPOO radio station, with Johnny Brooklyn and was truly impressed. The dryers here are of the olf fashion variety where gas is used instead of electricity, so the dryers are literally like a furnace, which means your clothes dry faster and you are otta there. Plus the best part is that they are free, providing you wash your clothes there. The gentleman that runs the business is very entertaining and a kind man. This business have been around for a long time; due to the changing face of Oakland, many people left the area and new occupants own their own washing equipment, so the place is not getting as much business as it deserves. This is a solid laundry place. It's rarely crowded, and I could always get a machine - even if a few of them are broken at any given time. The owner clearly does maintenance to fix these, and I've seen him do extensive cleaning of the machines, with a lot of care. Yes, he does occasionally take out your clothes if you're not there, but that never bothered me, since I imagine he needs to free up the machine. He also gives advice for using the machines, and he'll happily give you change for a $20 personally (since the machine won't take bills that big). read more

I highly recommend NOT coming here. The attendant/owner (?) today began yelling at me in incredibly foul and sexist language when I disagreed about how to dry my laundry on a Saturday morning. He insisted that I put all the laundry into one dryer, despite the fact that not all laundry can be dried at the same temperature. He was incredibly aggressive and continued to yell in a manner that led me to think he was probably either intoxicated and/or mentally ill. He moved his chair right in front of me and began staring. He also put the keys in the door, intimating that he would lock me in. As I was alone in the laundromat, I was definitely freaked out. Would recommend avoiding this place at all cost. More machines were broken than functional, so the small handful of customers had to jockey for machines. It's pricey even accounting for "free" drying. Unfortunately, their change machine doesn't take twenties, they don't break twenties, and all the neighboring shops are sick of laundry customers trying to make change. I bring blankets and spreads here and leave for the guy to wash, dry and fold. Very reasonableand a good job. Well worth the money!

The best thing is that you can dry your clothes free of charge, no matter how long it may take. The machines are good and generally in working order and reasonably priced. Enjoy watching the sports games while doing the laundry. The owner is very friendly and helpful. read more
