Came here put 77 min on the dryer and then I came back and my clothes where still wet so I put another 30 to see if it would dry but the dryer was not working I told the person who owned the place and he tried to tell me I just need to add more time but I'm telling him it doesn't work. Then I had to literally bring someone else so they could tell him it didn't work and they where here while I tried to use i. Can't knock this self- service laundromat. An oversized Futon mattress brought me in. I didn't know which machine to use, but a nice Asian lady steered me to an industrial sized washer and dryer. I don't know if she worked there or was a customer. Wow! It ain't cheap. Took about $8 in quarters to to the job. Street parking in front and a questionable lot on the side. A clean bathroom, but no paper towels. Nevertheless, the wash house was good enough to get the job done PS - it's next to Fat Fish for the win! read more

If you need your linens washed and folded, this is a great place for it. They use very good detergent that doesn't have any smells that could bother people who are sensitive to added smells. Folding of the sheets, duvets, pillow cases and towels is also very well done. read more

I've been a loyal fan of Bing Wong for a few years now, but seeing as that their washers/dryers are always out of service I had to find a new place to do the business. At first I was nervous since there were so many people inside, but to my surprise there was a plethora of washers/dryers to go around AND ALL WORKING. Oh my! PROS: - Tons of washers/dryers that are in service - 3 change machines all working - Food/drink vending machines that don't look sketch - Clean for the most part (as what you can expect from a laundromat) - Parking in the front/parking lot in the back - They have the washers that lock/larger washers for sheets in the back - Plenty of folding tables - TVs around the place to pass the time CONS: - Prices cost more than bing wong at $2.75 vs $2.25 - Drier didn't seem as strong and I had to pay $1 vs usual $.75 - Not enough laundry carts to go around when the place is packed making it hard to move laundry Not too many complaints my first time here, so this might be my new spot. read more

Today I did a load of laundry - a normal load of shirts, no different from the dozens of times I've been here over the last nearly 4 years. When I took my shirts out, the one in the very front of the machine - the first one I took out - had big holes in the front of it. I was shocked. I immediately went to get the woman who works here and thought she'd be helpful and reimburse me for my shirt, since she's always been nice to me in the past. Hell no. She berated me that somehow *I* had burned holes in my shirt. What?! She kept saying there was nothing wrong with the machine, but clearly there is seeing as it ripped giant holes in my shirt! Then she said the shirt is old - NOPE, it isn't. Then she said I got bleach on it - NOPE, I've never used bleach a single time in my entire life. Ultimately she said I put bleach on the shirt and handed it to me and walked away. I've been coming here for almost FOUR YEARS and she thinks this was a long con to get $20 for a tshirt out of her? I only use it for location. When I first started coming here 6 years ago, it was fine. The owners were nice and accommodating and seemed happy to have you patron their business. Now, it's a different story. The machines are in desperate need of an upgrade and can damage your clothes. The smaller washers toward the middle of the laundromat have put rust stains on my clothes making them unwearable. I told the husband that owns the place about it once and he had to give me a free weights for my clothes. However that is when I actually caught the rust problem. It happened a few times prior to that and I was none the wiser. So if you do come to this laundromat don't use the washers toward the middle going towards the back door. Also they change the price in the machines over a year ago and you used to be able to try your clothes for eight minutes with 25 cents and they reduced it to seven minutes from a quarter. Also, the larger washers toward the back right side are very popular but sometimes they don't work properly. They raise the price of those machines one dollar due to the popularity. Also you have to kind of guess which dryers work the best because some of them don't really seem to heat and take a full 10 minutes just to get really warm. Oddly enough when I came here six years ago that was not a problem. When I told the wife that owned the business about the dryer not heating up and saying that there was a problem with the dryer, she told me that I overloaded the dryer and just use two different dryers. I tried to explain to her that I usually put this amount of laundry in the dryer without a problem and now there is a problem with the dryer, not the amount of clothes. So would she basically told me in a nutshell was to use less clothes in the dryer and spend more money. So yes, you can use this laundromat if you want to but you cannot have a problem with the washers or dryers because that takes money away for them to fix. And yes, I am writing this while I'm doing a load of laundry because the owner once again would not take responsibility for malfunctioning washer. If I could drive to a different laundromat closer by like the one on 61st St. I would do so in a hot minute. read more

So, call me lazy, but if i have to lug 20lbs of laundry on my back a mile to bring it here, you bet your butt that I'm not sticking around to wash it. I'm spoiled, sue me. I drop my laundry off here (more or less weekly), and I've yet to be disappointed. My clothes smell good, are well folded, and there is no wear, tear, or discoloration to my clothing. The husband and wife duo who run the joint are very, very nice (the wife is super sweet), and often accommodate my request to pick it up the same day (as long as I drop it off first thing in the am). Love that this is my neighborhood laundromat. I always have $20's, thanks to ATM machines, and never want that many quarters. Thanks to the staff here, they are always willing to provide smaller denominations before obtaining quarters. Confession: I'm a control freak. I'm very particular about sorting my colors...my "nice" whites can't be washed with my white towels - denim must have its own load. Yeah. I'm joining Control Freaks Anonymous as soon as we all reliquish control to 1 person in order to plan the meeting. ;) So on a normal week, doing laundry means many many trips up and down the stairs from my 2nd floor apartment to the laundry in the lower level. It takes the better part of a full saturday - but I'm happy in the end because my laundry is done to my liking. Except I just started working saturdays, so I don't have time for that. My roommate recommended doing wash and fold - but would they follow my precise instructions (bleach all the whites. Towels go in hot water, the rest of the whites in warm. Denims separate from the rest of the darks. And oh! special load for the greens and browns. Some jeans are dried 100%, some 85%, some not at all) So I wanted to get a lot of laundry done quickly this week. Enter Washingtown. For $23 and 90 min, I washed a TON of laundry (8 washers). I'm happy. I'm a little sad about the $3.50 I lost on broken machines. The place is a bit dirty and there's a surly woman who grumbles about breaking $20s. But my laundry is done. It was sorted in my compulsive way and it did not include 20 trips up and down the stairs. All is right with the world. read more

Really pleased to have this in the neighborhood and I would come across town for this place. Mari and her husband do everything they can to have the place feel good, it's a new business and they're struggling with low traffic cause the place used to be pretty awful really. And pricewise, $1/lb is really a good deal. When I figure the cost of water, electricity and my time, it's a great addition to my life. If you do your wash there also, you find what you need, dryers that get the job done, etc and like I say Mari and her husband are accessible and happy for your business. read more

This place is ridiculous. It doesnt even deserve one star. There is an attendant present at the place, but he cannot help the customers. The dryers do not get hot, but we have to wait for the owner to come to get the money back. I have lost money at least 3to 5times just because attendant cannot do anything about it. Imean what is the point of having an attendant if he cannot even turn on a different machine. This place is a pathetic excuse for a laundrymat. I started going here over 4 years ago and it's still the same piece of poo. When it rains the ceiling falls down and the floors get soaked. When the machines break they get fixed...eventually. Last year a car crashed into the front and it took them like 6 months to fix everything. The owners either don't care or are complete asswipes. I finally called quits on this place after repeatedly pulling my clothes out of the dryer with mysterious stains on them. Oil? Grease? Melted chap stick? Who knows? It's big. I was here on a Tuesday afternoon and there were plenty of machines On the other hand, it sucks. The washer didn't get all the soap off my jeans and left my clothes genuinely wet (it wasn't even that full). The driers seem to be faulty for the most part. They take longer than other driers. This is a pleasant place to do laundry. On my way to another laundromat on Shattuck, I passed this place and noted: that place looks huge! And there's parking out front. When I got to the place on Shattuck, they had only a half dozen or so front loaders and they were like 3 bucks each so I doubled back. At Washingtown, they have a suggestion box, tv's, candy machines, and a sign that says "Free soap with soaps - 10:00 to 3:00." Too bad i couldn't take advantage of this offer. There are about 60 top loaders at $1.50 per load. There are also a couple dozen of the good-ol wascomat jr. front loaders ("double load") at 2 bucks each, which is cheap. Then there's the triple and quintuple front loaders....they got it all, as well as same day wash n fold. The dryers worked well. One ate 2 of my quarters and the skinny old dude that was working there acted like someone just dented his cadillac. He got to cursing all over the place and saying how people slam the doors all the mf'in time and how this doesn't happen in Piedmont. Yeah but you gotta pay to park in Piedmont. Anyway, he gave me unlimited time on a nearby dryer, which was awesome. He also was regulatin' when kids were playing with the laundry baskets. You do a good job, dude... I should have put something in the comment box. There's a parking lot in the back, but there is lots of parking out front too. The only other businesses in the strip are a Dominoe's and a burrito place. Overall, glad I found this place. read more

I've been to this location a few times without any issues but today the washer did not dispense enough water into one of my machines. I asked the man who works here for assistance during the wash cycle and he noticed the same thing. After the cycle finished, the clothes were practically dry and I notified the same guy. He told me that he was unwilling to rewash the load or provide me with the funds to do so. He was also unwilling to provide the manager or the owner's number. This place is a-ok as Laundromats go. A few of the machines are broke, but that's pretty typical for a laundromat. There is a working change machine, tons of washers & dryers (including many brand new ones), and they even have free wi-fi! Huge selling point for me. This place also has a parking lot (plus) and is next to a Domino's (half-plus - as it may be a plus for some people, though not necessarily for me), and has cable (plus plus - as I don't have cable at my house currently). The attendant was very nice,and didn't grumble at all when I asked him for the wireless key. I made friends easily with all the locals, who did not hesitate to ask me for change, a lighter, a piece of my pizza, some laundry soap, or whatever else was in plain sight for the duration of my stay at the Washingtown. Was glad that this place had an attendant... Overall, I will go again. Pretty decent spot for the money. $3 for washing and drying the whole load of laundry. Sweet. read more

My favorite laundry place thus-far in the North Oakland South Berkeley area. I scoped out about five other places that were rated well on Yelp! and found this one to be most to my liking. Cheapest quality washers/dryers I've found, and a LOT of them. Seems like you'd never run out of laundry space even if it's full. And the fullest I've seen it is less than 15 people. There are vending machines with drinks and snacks and a change machine, all were working when I was there. Nice to have access to those things while waiting for laundry. It's also right off of Adeline near Ashby bart, so good access. There is an awesome cozy Cafe across the street and down a block if you're looking for coffee and drinks, and various food spots across the street like pizza and thai food. Has it's own parking lot, which is much appreciated since it's on a busy street. Only downside is it seems to have proportionally less laundry carts than some of the other laundromats I've gone to, but not a huge problem. There seems to be mostly enough. Only time you'd run out is if the place was packed. read more

I don't feel comfortable going to this laundromat anymore because the mask rule is unenforced. The last few times I've gone there have been people in the laundromat not wearing their masks. Coronavirus air droplets from an infected person can stay in the air up to three hours so I don't think keeping social distance is enough of a precaution. read more

They all smelled like mildew and it took us an hour to find 1 in the whole place that didn't smell or have a ring of green moldy crust around the door seal...if they took the time to thoroughly clean these machines, it could easily be a 4 or 5 star place. read more

This is the best laundromat I've found in the area. My girlfriend and I will go as long as possible between laundry trips so we have a ton of dirty clothes to wash each time. At other laundromats, this means trying to find 4, 5 or even 6 open machines. A real pain. This place has a bunch of large and 2 extra large (50 lbs I think) washers. I'm in an out in 2 large loads. It saves me money and is more convenient. They also have huge dryers that can accommodate the large loads. There is enough room for all the clothes to tumble. Even comforters. My clothes are usually completely dry in 30 mins. There are always clean counter tops that i can use to fold laundry. read more

Sometimes I hate going to a laundromat, but then again I can do like 5 loads at once. I only started going here a few months ago. The washers work, the driers work, there is really fast wifi, and there is some food available down the street. A diverse group of washers and rarely any crazy screaming, oddballs. I give them the 5 stars today because I had a memory lapse over the weekend, and left half my laundry in a drier on a Saturday. Went back today, Monday, and they had bagged it up and saved it for me! Wow talk about shady. When I'm using dryers I always put in one quarter, let it get hot to make sure it's working then add more time. I've lost way too much on dryers in the past. So I put my one quarter, it doesn't get hot. So I move my clothes to another dryer and go tell the owner. The owner asks me for a quarter to test it, claiming if it works I've lost my first quarter but he'll give back his test quarter. He waits a minute, declares it works and refuses to give me back the money he borrowed. Crazy! The only reason he eventually gave me the quarter he borrowed back is because I followed him through the place making a scene. Like I said to him, I'll never come back here. I have access to laundry equipment for less money in my building, but I pay a few dollars more and make the transportation arrangements so that I can do my laundry in the clean, fresh, open environment at Washingtown. I appreciate having access to the bathroom, and I especially like the expansive folding surfaces. The current owners have invested in building repairs and improvements and brought in many many new machines to create a safe, clean neighborhood laundromat. I have always found them friendly and responsive and the machines in good condition. If you decide to go here, DONT use the cheap $2 washing machines!! I went here for the first time to do a couple loads of laundry, and the clothes came out dirty. I went to look for an attendant...and no one was anywhere to be found. Feeling defeated and frustrated, I came back the next day to re-wash my laundry in the $2.75 machines, and spotted the woman owner in the office. I kindly approached her and explained the situation, respectfully asking if I could get my $4.00 back, as the machines didn't get my clothes clean. Her response: "Why didn't you come see us yesterday and show me that your clothes weren't clean? Those machines clean clothes just fine, and no, I will not give you your money back." This is a perfect example of how businesses go under...Poor customer service!! Not only will I never come back to this laundromat, but I will Yelp and tell all my friends in this area of my awful experience. The $4 she could have easily re-funded me would have been worth 100 fold to her and her business. I noticed a few other Yelpers described a similar experience here. Bottom line...I don't give business to people who don't appreciate and take care of their customers! I don't care how many washers/dryers you have....I will never come back here!! I think most yelpers that give positive reviews may have a different opinion if they ever had any kind of issue and tried to address it with these people. AWFUL!!!!!! OK so I am new to the east bay, (so I am spoiled by the Little Hollywood Laundromat in SF.) Am looking for a fun full of life interesting, clean, and friendly laundromat for using. This is NOT the place to go. Although there are tons and tons of washers, about 1/4 of them don't work. some are rusted, on the outside, and although it is right along a main street, there is really nothing to do there. The workers were...um...ok, but as soon as 9:30 hit they kept reminding us every five minutes or so that they would be closing at 10 pm, (we got out at 9:45 - who knows what would have happened if we were later...I dislike laundry so hanging around a laundromat is not my thing to do) This would be a good place if there was no where else to go to but I think that i shall continue my search. read more

I come here regularly with VERY large loads and always find available, effective and in-service machines - always! The owners work very hard to keep the place clean and have always been accommodating when I have had a request or difficulty. Big plus - they will provide rolled quarters, so I never have to deal with a cranky change machine:). If you prefer a quieter scene for your laundry experience, just avoid the high traffic hours because most of the time this place is quite pleasant. Not a comfy place to sit and socialize, but my fellow launderettes are mostly very congenial. read more
