I awoke to a flood in my basement yesterday (7/3), coming from my HVAC system. The company that installed the system - K&M - only sent my call to voicemail & never called back, so I immediately phoned another local company with good reviews - Able Heating & Air. They were friendly, courteous, & understanding the urgency of the situation, told me that one of their staff would definitely show up for me, probably in early evening. The gentleman (Matt) & the office both kept me apprised of his estimated arrival time, & arrive on time he did. Used a portable shop-vac to suck up as much flood water as possible, quickly diagnosed the problem, installed new drain equipment, & helped me with a couple of other things (I'm somewhat disabled). He couldn't have been more personable or competent. And keep in mind this was after hours, like around 7 p.m. Due to my particular situation, he did suggest (but definitely not PUSH) their twice-a-year maintenance plan, which I jumped at since I am now a widow & everything is now up to me. For $499 they come twice a year to check/clean/repair indoor/outdoor heat pump system, as well as check/clean/flush the water-tank system. Works for me. All in all, the after-hours visit & all the work he did + the new maintenance plan came to $833. Fine with me. Able is now my new HVAC company. K&M, after 30 years of being a loyal customer, lost me. (Update: To be completely fair, K&M did call me back at 8 a.m. this morning (7/6), apologized & said that they were closed Friday for the holiday, but that they were happy that I found someone to come & resolve my emergency, for which I thanked them. While I certainly don't grudge them taking the day off, they really should have mentioned that on their recorded message, so I didn't sit around waiting for a call-back.) read more

I cannot say enough good things about this family owned business. Greg (the owner) himself came out on a Memorial Day weekend several years ago when I left a message that weekend hoping I'd get someone by Tuesday. He got the message, it was a hot weekend and he happened to be in Warrenton so he called me and asked if he could stop by. He fixed the issue right away but my unit was as old as the house and on it's last legs. Shortly after, I decided to look at replacing the unit and have had their Premium Maintenance plan ever since. They have installed my water heater and my indoor/ heating and cooling units. They help me stay on track by calling when it's time for my maintenance and they take pictures of the parts and ducts etc. so you can see what it was and how it looks once cleaned and cared for. I will always use them and recommend them to anyone that needs a company they can trust with an excellent and well rounded team. read more

What a waste of time! The first technician (yes, there was more than one) who stopped by was polite and knowledgeable. His final assessment was I needed a whole new system. He said I had to have someone else come by and "take a look" at the system to give me the best price. Well, when the next two guys showed up, I got the scam! He was an obvious car salesman who was here not solve a problem but sell something I probably don't need. Beware of this place!! In the end I spent about $100 for absolutely nothing! Our old Lennox systems (25 years!) finally needed replacement. It was our intention to solicit local HVAC contractors to compete for the opportunity to replace three systems for our home and detached garage/apartment. Able H&R was one of six contractors invited to participate in the bid. Key factors in the competition was price, Statement of Work, Warranty and financing options. The companies that bid all proposed different equipment recommendations, so it gave us a boarder view of what they were trying to sell. In the end, Able H&R came out on top. Even though their final price for three new systems was not the lowest of all bids, they made up for it in their overall approach to the project. Every detail in evaluating replacement units from load calculations, existing duct work and refrigerant lines was carefully and thoughtfully considered in their SOW. No detail was left out in the proposal. We also read recent reviews and had several "word of mouth" recommendations that Able was a very reputable company. Fast forward -the Able team just completed three days of installation work on our new systems and the workmanship was outstanding! The team lead (Matt C.) was engaging and kept us appraised throughout the project on status and issues they were working to resolve. His team (Emilio, Chase, Brandon) was very professional and courteous. It is obvious that Able invests in their employees through training and education and providing them with everything they need to make each installation successful. My wife and I now have a sense of relief that our new systems will serve us trouble free for many years ahead. A special thanks to Neil Dodson for introducing us to Able and for preparing a winning proposal. And, again, to the installation team that did an awesome job! If you live in Central Va. and are considering replacement of your existing HVAC systems, then our recommendation without hesitation is Able Heating & Air. Would not recommend Able Heating and Air Conditioning. I called and explained I needed my A/C unit serviced to try to make it last through this summer at which time I am going to replace the entire system. I told them I know the unit has a slow leak and may need cleaned. This is where the fun begins. I was told a technician would come out and do a diagnostics on the system for roughly $80.00 and that if they system needed anything the tech would tell me. So tech comes out hooks up gauges tells me the unit is fine on refrigerant. Tells me there is a valve in the A-coil that is stuck and not letting gas by. Then tells me I need a surge protector on the system and should have the blower removed and cleaned. All this and a few other items that I don't want since I just want the unit to make it through this season. I ask him if he was going to clean the unit and he said no, this is just a diagnostic visit. I have to get a service contract for around $300 a year and they will come out and service it twice in a year. Keep in mind I told them I am replacing the system and just want to get through the summer. They did absolutely nothing but lie. The unit was low on refrigerant. In fact is was 3 lbs low. L.B. Hudson heating and cooling came out and cleaned the coils outside, added the refrigerant and check what was supposed to be a stuck valve and found it fine. So for a total of $300.00 Hudson did exactly what I ask. Cleaned the unit and added refrigerant to get me through this year. I would never recommend a company like Able that clearly had their tech trained to try to up sell me a bunch of stuff that would be gone in a year. Save your money and find a reputable company. read more

We had our heat pump and air handler replaced by Able Heating and Air. Their prices were reasonable, they were on-time, and very pleasant to work with. We've had to do some tweaking to the system after the installation and Able has responded quickly and pleasantly and got the job done. We signed up for the yearly maintenance on both the new and older system (we have a system for downstairs and upstairs). I highly recommend this company! read more

He arrived when he said, communicated when there were challenges, walked us through the process. He pointed out some things to be taken care of to bring better efficiency to our other unit. What a wonderful day to see the smile that Greg and Josh has on my Mom's face with her new A/C unit!! She had the old one for almost 20 years and it just so happened that I found Greg Venable online one night when the unit was shutting down. That was a blessing sent to us. Now we have a nice Trane unit that will keep us warm and cool when it's suppose to be that way. Here are my compliments about Greg's service. He is very professional at what he does and down to earth to talk to and feel comfortable with. When he came to see what the problem was he did not talk over our heads and actually sat and talked to my Mom for quite sometime until he knew she understood what would be happening with a new unit. I know that he would have stayed as long as it took until he knew she was comfortable. That's always a plus! NO ONE in my book could have gave my Mom the most reasonable price for all she got. New A/C and heat unit, plus a furnace that she so wanted. He will make sure you get the best deal and not drain your pockets dry. Big points for that!!! Greg will help you with the financing and help you get the best deal with even the smallest detail with the air filters. Also before we even got the unit in today, on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, the whole unit died and it was very hot outside. While he is spending quality time with his family, he got his co-worker Josh to come here and fix part of the problem until today at NO charge! Who would do that this day and time? Josh is also a very sweet, professional, polite gentleman who really get's the job done and makes sure that your satisfied with the work that is done. Great job Josh for all your hard work and for taking your time to keep us cool on a holiday weekend! Greg and Josh are a great team working together. Once they got the job done, they both stuck around to make sure everything was good and that we were happy before they left. They also come back in 2 weeks to make sure everything is going the way it should. Greg inspects everything before and after he does the job and really knows what he is doing and I can tell that him and Josh aim to please the customer more then anything. It's nice to see that there are still good, honest, hard workers in the world. The whole business is great and I promise you that you won't be let down at all. I am truly lucky that I found Able Heating & Air through Home Advisor.com . The first time I contacted them my A/C was not working and it was 96 degrees outside. They were there in a half hour and fixed the problem. They didn't charge me for an emergency call though to me it was a real emergency. I purchased a service contract for them to come twice a year to check my system. What I didn't know was that it includes so much more than the twice yearly service call. When my house began filling with mold and musty smells, they came out and found that the 40 year-old duct work had collapsed and drawing bad air from my crawl space into my house. They did a temporary fix (no charge) and Greg, the owner came out the next day and gave me an excellent proposal to install completely new duct work, a new special purpose five inch filter and a new Trane digital wifi thermostat. It was very reasonable so I signed the contract. They called to set up the work and gave me a date seven days later to begin the work. The day before the work was to begin they called and said they had finished another job early and would like to start that day. They came and by the original start date they had finished the work early. I can not recommend them more highly. It is really great to find a company with high standards of ethics and attention to detail. Able goes above and beyond to satisfy their customers.
