We are very satisfied with our recent move on 1/17/2023 from Woodbridge to Locust Grove, VA with Able Moving & Storage. The crew arrived on time and worked very efficiently and professionally thru lunch to pack and deliver all furniture for our 3 bedroom house. The crew chief, Jose, was very experience and courteous and even provide some suggestions for placing furniture in our new house. All the loading and unloading were done with care and professionalism which resulted in no scratch at all. Even better, the final cost ended up lower than the estimated cost. Update: We were contacted by customer service about 1.5 hours after our move was to begin, and they were very helpful and apologetic. The movers did eventually arrive and they did a great job. In the end, Able made up for the added stress/delay, and overall we ended up very satisfied with the move. Delays happen, and despite the initial lack of communication, we were impressed with their willingness to make it right and get the job done! Yesterday we confirmed with Able our 1pm move today. It's an hour past our moving time, and the movers haven't arrived nor have they called. We haven't been able to get in contact with a single person from Able to see when they might arrive. Able did a local move for us this summer. The crew damaged our brand new home during the move. Proper padding, runners, etc were not provided or used. The crew was rude and argumentative when I pointed out the damage (stairs, floor, door jam). I've sent in pictures, notified the office multiple times, and filled out the proper forms but the operations manager still hasn't contacted me. UPDATE: I'm adding stars because the Len from Able contacted me just hours after this review was posted to apologize. A repair person called and is scheduled to come fix the damage. read more

I can't rate this company highly enough. Anni was incredibly helpful setting up my out-of-state move. Mario and his team showed up exactly on time to begin my move and was cordial and efficient in removing items from my apartment in under two hours. I moved to New York -- they woke up the next day at 4:00 am to deliver my truck by late morning. The same crew handled both ends of the move. Within 75 minutes, my new home was set up with everything assembled. They even rearranged a room of furniture I wasn't pleased with. AND the final bill came in exactly as the estimate. I did extensive research for our household goods move of 20K lbs over about 500 miles. It's tricky research because it seems every company has high ratings and glowing testimonials on its own website, but when you find independent sites like Yelp, the reality sets in. Most companies are very poorly rate. Not Able. I had a great experience with Able when I had them move my items into storage back in 2020 and each time I speak with them it is just as pleasant. Last week I had to schedule a last minute access to retrieve items from my storage crates and once again Able was very accommodating and professional. I used Able about 9 years ago to move me/store my belongings and had no issues. What a difference 9 years makes! Used them again in November to move out/store/move in. The main office staff itself seems disorganized and the group of movers who moved me in were clueless amateurs. They damaged the wall and ceiling with my queen boxspring. They could not get the hutch to my entertainment center around a corner. They wanted to lift it up via my deck. I refused because with their performance and have a cracked deck on my newly constructed home. They dropped my elliptical and cracked it, and I have a scratch around the full circumference of my coffee table in which they will not cover the damages for...because it's within my 100.00 deductible...in which it took them one month to respond. If you have an expensive large item to move in your 3 story townhouse then Able Moving & Storage is the company to pick! My new sleep number bed was too big to get up my stairwell to the 3rd floor bedroom. The guys at Able Moving came to my rescue and hoisted my bed, mattress and headboard to the bedroom without a scratch! The crew sent were easygoing, hardworking, quick and honest. Able moving was available at a fairly short notice and came in over $200 cheaper than the three other companies I requested quotes from. Also at the end of the move the crew chief calculated the materials used and ended up refunding me $29. We had a really moving experience with Able! Seriously, this was as smooth and easy as a move can be, from the totally accurate estimate and professionalism of our estimator, to moving day itself. These friendly and totally competent movers never so much as bumped a wall or a corner in our BRAND NEW HOUSE (we were terrified!) As if that wasn't good enough, they were off-the-charts friendly and diligent. They rolled out the red carpet (literally) throughout our old house and then our new one; they covered the carpeted stairs with plastic stuff; and the cheerfully delivered every box and piece of furniture exactly where we wanted them. UPDATE: Melanie, the customer service manager at Able, contacted me after I left my review. She was very apologetic and took actions that I feel rectified the things that went wrong. Many times a loyal customer is made not because things went perfectly the first time, but because the business made a genuine and sincere effort to win back your trust. I am happy with how things turned out. I am also satisfied that this was just a bad day and not a routine issue. I'm also told that the company has revised its protocol and all team members now wear masks. I don't recommend Able Moving. They straight-up lost a tall floor lamp - it wasn't left in my old place, never arrived to my new place, and they claim it wasn't in their truck. A witch took it, maybe? They also just randomly didn't take things from my old place. They left things on the counter and left my broom and mop - for some reason, despite the fact that they were moving 100% of the non-appliance items out of the apartment, they just decided to leave a few random things. I am still discovering things that somehow disappeared between my old and new place. I pointed out and verbally asked one mover to pick up some little things I had placed on the deck stairs to be picked up, and then left a message on their voicemail. The mover said he would grab them; that was ignored, as my old landlord reported that the items were left on the deck stairs where I placed them to be picked up. Every time I go to grab those things, I'm reminded that they were negligently and inexplicably left behind. One was a medical device. Additionally, only one of the two movers wore a mask. Later I contacted them not to give me the money for the items, but to apologize. They stopped contacting me and never offered any recourse. I called Able Moving because I had 3 great recommendations. The estimator came, next day I got the quote. We set up a packing and loading dates. Then the 4 women packers showed up this morning. My house is 4500sf. In the basement they saw 2 dead mice from my exterminator's traps. They declared my house was unsafe to work and walked out. So the first demand for them to come back was to get an exterminator. Had one. The next demand was I needed to get my house cleaned. It was. Then next they wanted me to organize my stuff. I had 23 boxes in my family roomed used for sorting. My books were organized into sub-categories. I told the estimator this was bullshit and asked for my deposit returned. These women just weren't interested in working. Able Moving isn't even worth the phone call. read more

Great communication and service. I came across Able from a friend's referral. I was stressed out about packing up a 3 bedroom townhouse myself, and moving to a smaller townhouse 5 miles away. I requested an estimate through Yelp about 2 weeks out from my move date. They got back to me the same day and came out for a short, on-site estimate, which was reasonable. The estimator told me exactly what the chargers included and things that could change the cost, like if I were to break down some of the furniture myself. The follow up emails and confirmation calls included everything I needed to know and were clear. The day of the move, the crew called to let me know they were rolling in. The crew of 3 were efficient and took care of the furniture very well (wrapped in their blankets). They were very accommodating and patient helping me get the pieces into the new place. After the hurricane hit Texas, Able Moving and Storage lent out their truck for two weeks and supplied numerous boxes so that the South Riding community could stock it up with donations to send to the disaster stricken area. Once the truck was full, they made the two day drive to Houston to deliver the donations. They are a great business run by great people. Highly recommended! read more

I still think others should see what happened so here's my original review: My mom hired them to move stuff from my storage unit to our house. They sent 2 adults & 2 kids that looked 16 at the oldest. At one point they put one of my plastic storage bins, which aren't meant to support a lot of weight on top, on the bottom of a dolly, stacked 2 or 3 boxes on top, and then the youngest SAT on top of it until the bin cracked while he laughed. I guess I should have been taking video because that's just completely unacceptable. I was looking right at him. Didn't say a word to me or apologize. That bin had my Christmas ornaments I've had since I was a kid & I'm afraid to even try & open it now. I had 2 large DVD shelves put together but without the shelves in. They decided to either take 1 apart or it fell apart & they just left it in 2 pieces. I found another broken storage bin with a bunch of stuff stacked on top. They also thought it was a good idea to put a storage bag of clothes on the bottom of a stack of 5 big boxes that are now leaning over onto another stack. I am so disgusted with this moving company. They helped me and my mom move 2 times but they now lost my trust. Everything was going fine until we arrived at the new location. The movers spoke Spanish around my mom whenever she asked them to move furniture to another room. One was extremely rude and since I know a little bit of Spanish, I knew what he said and it made me very upset. I didn't say anything because I just wanted them out. My mother asked if I had extra cash on me to give for a tip because she was short by 20 dollars. I know I had 20 dollars in my wallet and right when I opened my wallet to give to the movers it was gone! I accidentally left my purse in the basement while I went upstairs with my mom to make sure everything looked ok. I looked EVERYWHERE for the 20 dollar bill and could not find it. I knew it was in my wallet because I purchased food just before arriving to the new location and I know I saw a 20 in there. I know I should've had my purse on me, and I take this as a lesson learned not to trust movers. I saw them banging furniture on the stair rail and the walls and they scratched up some of my furniture as well. They broke one of my lamps that I had for 6 years and didn't even apologize. Feeling like I was robbed, I was paranoid the whole night fearing some belongings were stolen. I unpacked all of my belongings in 6 hours (right after the movers left) and didn't go to bed until 4am. Thank goodness nothing else was stolen. I trusted this company to help me and my mom move for years and they treated my mom like this. She even bought them lunch and this is the thanks we get. Don't make the same mistake I did and trust this company. This is the worst moving company and I will tell everyone I know never to hire Able! read more

We had a big, downtown office move for a staff of over 50. Chris Cox was our point person and he was extremely thorough, responsive, courteous, and professional. Able's crew helped us pack up common areas - carefully and thoroughly - and moved everything from one Dupont Circle office building to another a few blocks away. On the night of our pack up and move, Chris arrived on-site to monitor progress. He arrived on-site at the new office the following morning to ensure all was going smoothly. The crews we worked with (led by Lemont Jeffers) were very professional and thorough and courteous. I've tried to reach this company several times within the past week during their business hours and have gotten zero responses. I emailed them, no response. I put out a quote via Yelp and nada. I just called them again 5 minutes ago, and left a voice message to a Melissa(?). I texted them via Yelp and their "online chat box" and received an auto text from that "aren't open right now" while your business hours sat Mon-Sat 8a-5p.
