I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience with this tree removal company's owner. I responded to a flyer from the owner for a quote to remove a tree, and although I never met the owner in person, he left a business card at my door and provided an estimate, via text. After obtaining both HOA and city approval, I agreed to hire him and we scheduled a date for the work to be completed. Unfortunately, he showed up one week earlier than the agreed-upon date due to his own scheduling mistake. I have text messages clearly showing the correct date requested. I was not home, and he immediately began demanding a $500 cash payment upfront from my roommate before any work had started. The interaction then became even more concerning when he asked my roommate to put on his shoes and come outside to speak with him. After moving him away from our security cameras, he began asking personal questions, including what my roommates relationship was to me. After being told we are family friends, he left. I found this behavior highly inappropriate and completely unrelated to the job he was hired to perform. I tried to call him twice with no answer. When I provided proof via text messages that he had the date wrong, instead of acknowledging the mistake and rescheduling, he chose to cancel the entire job. Mistakes happen, but professionalism, accountability, and respectful communication are important when working at someone's home. Showing up on the wrong date, demanding cash from someone who wasn't the person who hired you, asking intrusive personal questions, and then canceling the project after being shown evidence of the scheduling error left me with a very negative impression. I guess they aren't "above it all", after all. While I was very taken aback at Stephen Bell's behavior, I was able to find an amazing company to take care of it. read more

I hired this company 11/29/2023 and Steven came out to cut our very large Oak Tree in Placer County. At this time I was satisfied with the job when it was done. Recently due to the past storm we had the weekend of 2/4/2024 I had the top of the entire Oak Tree come crashing down which created very large trunks of the tree, branches and debris. I called Steven to come out and give me an estimate. Instead he was very different and said he was busy with big dollar jobs and really did not want to help my husband or me knowing it was a very large job for my husband to do who is a heart patient. Spoke bad about our tree which is protected in Placer County you are unable to remove. DO NOT USE HIM!!!! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT: Advertises as licensed and told me he is, but is not. He came to cut some branches down, left the whole mountains of branches in my front yard, then tells me he will be back the next day to clean up. The next day, he doesn't show up, I end up calling him to hear him say that he will not be coming back unless I pay him an additional $300 for the cleanup. We talked and said that's not what we agreed upon and he agreed to come the next day to finish cleaning up. He shows up late in the day, cleaned up one branch all the while walking around the neighborhood, then proceeds to URINATE in my front yard, which was literally recorded on my security camera. After urinating, he just gets back in his car and leaves. I call and he says it's not fair to him that I won't pay him. I proceed to ask him for his license number so I can look into him, he tells me he is licensed in Berkeley, I say that's fine just give me that. He refuses to give it to me saying it's expired and then admits he is not currently licensed. I ended up paying another company additional money to clean up after his mess. HE HAS BEEN REPORTED to the Contractors State License Board. Per their website, "It is illegal for an unlicensed person to perform contracting work on any project for which the contract price is $500 or more, including labor and materials." read more

Taking several weeks to remember to write a review for a couple of guys who did a great job on your trees in a more than reasonable amount of time, for a price that nobody could beat! Forgetting to write the review like that is flakey! But like I said, these guys are NOT. Steven came by to look at the job shortly after I first reached out to him and others for estimates. In fact, he was my 2nd of 3 total estimates and I really should have called the 3rd guy and told him never mind, because I knew nobody was going to be able to beat Steven's price. I have waited several months to post this review hoping things would look better. They were responsive. Good value...no as they brutalized one of our trees in front. It is a street joke and someone even put a Lorax on it. It looks terrible and is basically ruined. They did offer to remove it only after the ruined it for good. Out Japanese maples we're brutally cut as well. I would not recommend them for tree cutting or trimming. read more

Yay our house is save thanks to "Above It All Tree Care"! Last Friday due the nasty wind we had I posted asking for recommendations for a tree company due to our huge tree about to fall on the front of our house due to wind damage. We already had 3 huge limbs high up break off and fall just as went walked by and entered our house about two weeks prior in another wind storm. Above It All Tree Care was able to come out during the wind storm last Friday within 20 mins while the tree was going crazy and make a plan to cut down and remove the tree the was leaning over the front of our house. Also remove all the roots that have caused havoc throughout our grass, gone under our concrete, and had worked its way towards water sources. Would not give a bid until they knew the other bids. Yeah, they asked. Gave a price in the middle, then hounded me for 3 days about how dangerous the branches were while I was collecting the rest of the bids, saying they could do it on Friday. So I caved in, said yes, then they changed it to Monday. Told all the other tree guys I already found someone, thanks anyway. Monday morning they text me and say we changed our minds, we don't want to do the job, however, they will remove the branch stuck in the tree for 500 bucks.
