They dug the holes properly, mixed the native soil with planting soil, added gypsum, and carefully planted and staked the trees--some of them over 8 feet tall. They worked efficiently, carefully, and professionally throughout the entire job. The real test came during the following weeks, when Roseville experienced triple-digit temperatures day after day. Of course, I made sure the trees were properly watered, but I'm very pleased to say that all eleven trees have done extremely well. Two months later, they are healthy and thriving despite the intense summer heat. After obtaining both HOA and city approval, I agreed to hire him and we scheduled a date for the work to be completed. Unfortunately, he showed up one week earlier than the agreed-upon date due to his own scheduling mistake. I have text messages clearly showing the correct date requested. I was not home, and he immediately began demanding a $500 cash payment upfront from my roommate before any work had started. The interaction then became even more concerning when he asked my roommate to put on his shoes and come outside to speak with him. After moving him away from our security cameras, he began asking personal questions, including what my roommates relationship was to me. After being told we are family friends, he left. I found this behavior highly inappropriate and completely unrelated to the job he was hired to perform. I tried to call him twice with no answer. When I provided proof via text messages that he had the date wrong, instead of acknowledging the mistake and rescheduling, he chose to cancel the entire job. Mistakes happen, but professionalism, accountability, and respectful communication are important when working at someone's home. Showing up on the wrong date, demanding cash from someone who wasn't the person who hired you, asking intrusive personal questions, and then canceling the project after being shown evidence of the scheduling error left me with a very negative impression. I guess they aren't "above it all", after all. While I was very taken aback at Stephen Bell's behavior, I was able to find an amazing company to take care of it.
