Since I was 4 years old in 1980, I have always believed Western Bagel to be the best bagel in the Los Angeles area (and possibly the world). But random happenstance had me doing business on this particular block of Ventura Blvd and craving a bagel at the same time. I went into Abraham bagel and ordered my favorite, the onion bagel. It is difficult to explain the experience; bagels are 80% texture. And Abraham Bagel wasn't just better than Western Bagel. The bagels have gotten very thin in the last few years. The first time I saw them look like that I thought they made a mistake with the dough, but they have stayed looking like that for a few years now. The prices are too much for the quality too. They want $18 for a bagel with lox, no one charges that much except for one place I know that makes their own lox and has way better bagels. It's just sad. And there's one guy who works there who's really cocky and has an attitude. They should try to do better, but there are no other bagel places in the neighborhood so I guess they don't have to. They also offer a variety of schmear like chives, regular, lox and berry. The bagels are toasted to perfection - no need to ask for a double toast like elsewhere. Good prices. Bagels are cut in half by default. I'm not too sure about their drinks, but they do sell coffee and tea. They have a bunch of syrup and add-one available for grabs, too. They sell stuff in bulk for catering and takeout orders. I must try the Bialy bagel sometime - and I recently discovered there's a pancake version of it! I'm told it's best with cream cheese in the middle. Abraham shares a lot with a COVID testing place, a threading place, a pizza shop and a convenience store. I was in LA for only a day, didn't want to drive to Fairfax or Pico, but was disappointed in Valley choices Western Bagel and Einstein's (which they say used to be a Manhattan Bagel). In fairness, Western is a quality bagel place but the "bialy" was no different from an onion bagel. Anyway my scope is narrow, bialy only, and Abraham does a great job. I take my bagels seriously and unfortunately I did not have a great experience at Abraham Bagel. While the customer service was nice, our food was not good. I ordered turkey bacon, avocado, and lite cream cheese on my bagel. My bf ordered Jalapeño cream cheese. We repeated the order back a few times and I double checked the cream cheese. My mom used to own and operate a bagel bakery, and these bagels are just as good as her's. I drive up from Koreatown just to get them. Delicious! I've had the jalapeno cheddar and blueberry bagels.
