I come from a deli obsessed family. I found Mort's by accident looking for Bea's Bakery. Ive been hooked ever since. By far one of the best Jewish Deli's as a far as the authentic menu and taste. I love that Mario is always managing the place as he has for decades, but the recent sale was a surprise. The aesthetic refresh of the decor was needed, but the removal of the cabbage soup from the menu is a tragedy. By far the best cabbage soup of any deli in the west coast and I've had them all. Shame on the new owners for removing this from the menu. My Romanian Grandmother will haunt you as punishment. read more

I am writing as a longtime and loyal customer regarding a deeply disappointing experience involving the purchase of what was represented and sold as meat knishes from your store. My husband purchased several knishes from Mort's Deli. We understood these to be meat knishes based upon how they were described and priced. After bringing them home and cutting them open, we discovered that they were not true meat knishes, but rather potato-and-meat knishes. Had the product been accurately described, we would not have purchased it. We specifically sought meat knishes and paid the corresponding price (see the receipts attached). When I contacted the store to address the issue, employee Kate maintained that the potato-and-meat knish should nevertheless be considered a meat knish. Regardless of the terminology used internally by the store, the product was not what we reasonably understood we were purchasing. The situation became even more troubling when I repeatedly requested copies of the receipts. During the course of the dispute, I was informed that the receipts were not accessible. However, the receipts were ultimately produced and later emailed to me as ordered by the police. Notably, the receipts explicitly identified the product as a "Brisket Knish" and reflected the corresponding charge. The receipts therefore became an important part of understanding how the product had been represented and sold. Rather than resolving the matter promptly and professionally, manager Gail continued to escalate the situation unnecessarily. Ultimately, Gail instigated the calling of law enforcement to the store. Two police officers responded to the scene. Following their investigation, the store was ordered by the police to produce the receipts. The police officers became involved in what should have been a routine customer-service matter. With their assistance, the receipts were eventually produced after previously being misrepresented as inaccessible. What makes this experience particularly upsetting is that my husband is severely disabled, partially paralyzed, and walks with a cane. What should have been a simple request for fair treatment escalated into an unnecessary confrontation involving law enforcement. The needless inconvenience, travel, physical burden, and emotional distress inflicted upon both my husband and me were unfair and unjustifiable. As loyal customers, we found the entire experience shocking and disturbing. We sent the store owner an email detailing the incident but the owner never responded. read more

Good place for deli favorites, safe standard options typically seen in most delis. On my first visit i decided to go for something not as commonly ordered but the reviews made it sound good. The cold sandwich chopped liver sandwich on rye bread. Now note that Ive never had a chopped liver before but i can say it was delicious and tasty! Normally i hate bread but the rye used was great cold! Our server was very attentive and active. Ambiance was not noisy for 3pm, very few customers but it was post lunch hours. We are long time customers and unfortunately we need to rethink our dining choices. We ordered a kids hamburger only to find out they don't have a kids hamburger. The kids menu we were given had two breakfasts printed not a lunch. The waitress never informed us that the kids hamburger was not on the menu. My daughter asked for onion rings and I even said I don't want to pay extra and she didn't say a word. When I got the check, it was three dollars more so my daughter had a $24 lunch that she didn't even eat half of.. I felt very misled and I didn't appreciate that. And I don't think we will be back because of it.. there needs to be transparency when people are ordering so we can make informed choices of our meal. Morts Deli is where the aroma of pastrami and dill pickles is so potent it's basically its own, very delicious, air freshener, and the soup can cure an ailment you didn't even know you had. Recently remodeled with a wall now separating it from the once attached Beas Bakery, this delicatessen has grown into its own unique space. Nice comfy booths, a deli counter showing off daily made egg salad, tuna salad, olives, cheese, juicy roast beef and fresh baked breads. We sat down and we were attended to by our hostess who brought us ice waters. We got the curried chicken sandwich on sourdough with potato salad and big pickle slices. It was well seasoned, nice soft bread, tangy mustard sauce on the side. I love that the curried chicken salad had raisins in it, which added a touch of sweetness. The potato salad was also very creamy and chunky and tangy. The pickles were so refreshing and crisp. They were a perfect contrast to the sandwich overall, with tax we paid around 29 bucks so definitely on the pricey side. My critique is that for the prices they are charging they need to be serving larger portions because the service was excellent, and the restaurant itself is very clean. Went into Morts Deli today got a tuna on rye. I'm not quite sure why they call that rye bread number one it just ripped apart. The tuna was disgusting . My husband got loxs and eggs with a bagel. I guess they call that a bagel was more like chewing a tire anyway definitely downhill since last time and apparently they shut the door in Beas Bakery. What's up with that ?? It's a shame you can tell some places just aren't what they used to be. Came for lunch with good company. Service was attentive and friendly. I opted for a lunch combo, which came with half a pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup. The matzo ball was MASSIVE and light and fluffy; it was really a good bang for our buck! The pastrami sandwich was okay; not the best pastrami I've had, but it did the trick to satisfy my cravings. Their deli remodeled! It is looking sleeker and more chic. The customer service as friendly as ever. I love the 10 minute turn around in a pick up situation. My husband was craving Matzoh Ball soup to sooth the soul. I knew I could count on Mort's for the perfect delectable Jewish chicken soup for the soul. 5 stars just isn't enough for the experience I had a couple days ago at Mort's Deli. The menu itself is very impressive but the taste of the food was even better!!!! You can just taste the quality. Our server, Mario was super personable and kind. The manager, Don also came out and gave us a little history on the place which he just didn't have to do. Heard that I like pickle juice and brought me out a cup of pickle juice and a plate of extra pickles LOL! You just don't get this level of customer service anywhere nowadays. Back to the food... BEST pastrami rueben and pancakes I've ever had in my life! Coming back to try more of the menu and also because I throughly enjoyed my time there in all aspects as a customer. Very solid food, very nice staff, quintisential deli atmosphere. I was surprised to learn they are owned by the Nosh of Beverly Hills, though Mort's feels more authentically "close to the ground." Blintzes: the format was wider than what one normally sees, which actually makes it easier/neater to eat, and truly delicious. (The jam on the side had chunks of berries making it a standout.) Grilled Cheese: perfect balance of butter on the grilled bread and nicely melted cheese. Flavour: excellent. Fries: very nicely done. Tuna melt: I decided to go outside the lines and got jack cheese. Very good choice. Cucumber salad as a side... dream worthy. Coffee was solid. Friendly service. Definitely worth getting off the freeway to get a bite here. read more

Well I am a long time customer I am 75 years old so this should tell you something today may 4th I drove from Santa Monica to morts to have my favorite hot pastrami and chicken noodle soup what a disappointment first of all the name changed to Nosh that was kind of ok but when the food came it was awful pastrami was full of fat the macaroni salad was awful not those little picnic pasta and soup smells awful why fix it if it is not broken they change the name recipe we left so disappointing won't be back I will not recommend it read more

Mort's has been the best deli in the Tarzana/Encino area for decades! Their matzoh ball soup was the BEST, and their sandwiches were great. But ever since they sold to Bagel Nosh it has gone SOOO downhill. Everything tastes like they're using cheaper ingredients, or watering things down, in order to save money & make larger profit. The soup broth has none of that rich, chicken flavor that it used to. Tastes as if they're using half the amount of chickens to flavor the broth, so it's just a step above totally tasteless now. The matzoh balls are not good anymore either. Even the bread & sandwiches are just sub-par now. I've given them multiple tries and ordered many of the different things that I had loved before Bagel Nosh took over, but it's been severely underwhelming ever since, on every dish. Whatever little tweaks they've made to each dish, or whatever ingredients they've stepped down to using now really ruined what made Mort's so great before. It's going to be SO sad when they lose more & more customers, and eventually close after so many decades, but it's what I predict will happen, unless they go back to Mort's original ingredients & memorable flavor. This was next to the dry cleaners I use so finally decided to try this last Saturday. I ordered to go - pastrami corned beef sandwich and it comes with a side of either potato salad, coleslaw or fries. I got the coleslaw. Service was quick and I got my order in less than 10mins. The lady who took my order was really nice and answered all my questions. The sandwich was filling and ordered it to share with hubs at home. The pastrami and corned beef is not salty (as sometimes they can be) and just right. The bread held up well despite the humongous amount of meat. Coleslaw was good and not watery - loved it. I didn't dine in but I can tell that the place hasn't been renovated - but that can be part of its charm. I came around lunch time so the dining area is busy. MORT'S DELI, DOESN'T MATZ-O-ROUND!!!! I just had the BEST Ruben Sliders! I'm so happy, that my sister Gena and I, decided to try Mort's for lunch! Best service and good food! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because, I ordered the Mini Latke Rubens, from the Specials menu, what I got was Ruben sliders, minus the Latke's. (I didn't complain because we didn't have time to wait for the latkes) The other reason they didn't have 5 stars, was because the potato salad wasn't homemade or maybe it was homemade but tasted like the store bought potato salad in a container. Stopped in for breakfast on our way to the legendary Bea's Bakery, which is next door. The service was acceptable. The food, unfortunately, was nothing special. The deli menu features an array of omelets and scrambles or you can build your own. Lots of other breakfast options too. Ordered a scramble with spinach added for what was to be a small upcharge, which would be fine except the base price charged was actually higher than what was shown on the menu. Hash browns were under cooked. Sourdough bread would be great if they buttered it but it's served with a rock hard pat of butter in an individual container. Since the toast quickly cools, the butter never really melts. The fruit cup was good. The deli was recently updated. Looks sleek and clean but could use some warmth...like the bread! Not sure about trying the deli again for breakfast. Maybe lunch is a better bet. read more

Est. 1968- 55 years old and still going strong. Mort's is ideal for the 'pop in' lunch break. Can you ever go wrong with the Soup & Sandwich Combo? I had the Mushroom Barley Soup (delicious) and the half Corned Beef Sandwich with Muenster Cheese (delicious) and a side of Potato Salad (also delicious). Easily ordered for pick-up online. I got a quart of matzo ball soup and a corned beef sandwich. My order was packaged well and the person at the counter was kind enough to ask me if I wanted a side with my sandwich, since that wasn't an option to add when I ordered online. The sandwich was great, exactly what you want a corned beef sandwich to be. I got mine on rye! The matzo ball soup was good. It came packed with lots of noodles and bits of chicken and carrots. The chicken was a little overdone, and the matzo ball was a little too soft for my liking. The taste of the broth was yummy. I was feeling under the weather and it totally hit the spot! Also loved that they included pickles with my order. Mort's is a great spot for all of your classic Deli favorites. Morts is a historic Jewish deli. They have an extensive menu including many traditional Jewish deli items and sandwiches as well as American style items. They also have a butcher section where u can buy meat. The service varies, but most of the people are nice even when the service is just ok. They have traditional men's and women's restrooms that are clean. Their ranch dressing is custom made and very good with their fries with the sandwiches. They are connected to Bea's Bakery but they are separate businesses. Parking is in the back, but due to the market and other businesses that share the strip mall, parking can be challenging, but you can usually find a spot. We really like the Ruben and Club sandwiches, but other items on the menu are great. We recommend giving Morts a try. It has changed. The corn beef sandwich was not close to as good as before and I have been coming many years. The table clean is the best part of this place. It is not the great deli it used to be. Can this place use a bit of an update? Sure. Are the prices kinda high? Maybe. But, there's something to be said for an institution that's been around almost 60 years! It's a Jewish deli, with all the classics you'd expect such as mile high corned beef sandwiches, piping hot matzo ball soup, fish salads, etc. The food is solid and definitely hits when you're craving a deli meal but for me, it's the no bs experience and service you get that makes you wanna go back. There are some old-timers and young servers but they are all attentive and nice, like they're really glad you're there. There's good energy there and that's good enough for me. Don't forget to stop by and grab a black & white cookie at Bea's bakery on the other side of the deli. read more
